We Christians use the word "ministry" a great deal - and like any word that is used so often, its meaning can be rather hard to pin down. But if its important enough to be used so much, we need to be clear about what "ministry" means - and that requires us to dig deeply into the Bible, the Ministry Manual God has given us. This is how this book seeks to answer the big three questions about "ministry": What? Why? How?
Allan Chapple has pastored churches in Australia and the UK, ministered to students in universities, and taught theology at seminaries in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Perth, Australia. With a passion for the Bible, Allan has written "A Gospel Pageant: A Reader's Guide to the Book of Revelation", "Preaching: A Guidebook for Beginners", "GPS: God's Plan for Salvation" and "True Devotion: In Search of Authentic Spirituality". He's been married to Allison since 1974, and they have three adult children and two grandchildren.
Chapple succinctly and clearly answers the what, why, and how about ministry in a book that is eminently readable without sacrificing suitable depth. Concepts are suitably broken up to discuss in bite-sized portions and including quotations from others on the various points adds to the overall understandability. I may not have been the biggest fan of some of the formatting choices, but this doesn’t diminish from the usefulness of the work as a whole.
It is unfortunate that this book contains several typographical and editing errors, necessitating a small separate inserted errata sheet. Hopefully, these can be corrected before any future printing.
