This tiny book is #2 in the Wicked Wee Bks series by Knight Errant Press and the first solo publication of Gray Crosbie's work (their work is also featured in 'We Were Always Here' 2019 by 404 Ink, 'Queering the Map of Glasgow' and 'F, M or Other: Quarrels with the Gender Binary Volume 1' 2018 by Knight Errant Press). Gray's spoken word poetry has been featured on BBC Social and they regularly make an appearance on the poetry/spoken-word scene in Edinburgh and Glasgow (Scotland).
This collection of flash fiction is dark, captivating and poignant. The worlds within are full of wild creatures, heartbreak, ghouls, longing and fairy dust.
Don't be fooled, these wee stories will leave bite marks.
I ordered a copy directly from the publishers called Knight Errant Press main website, which during these hard times I strongly encourage you all to do. Keeping indie publishers going is so important in the books and publishing community. A flash fiction collection written by a Queer author that sometimes scared the hell out of me. The levels of strong imagery coming across in the writing style of Crosbie's was amazing to witness. I would have liked the collection length to be a little longer. However, it was a very good read! It can get creepy so don't read this just before you head to bed!
I picked this up from Knight Errant Press stall at Scotland's ACME Comic Con. I was completely smitten with this cover and intrigued by the collection of flash fiction.
For such a short book it really packs a punch and left me wanting more. My favourites include: Love, Pan-Fried, Bigfoot's Tea Party, One Night With a Werewolf, Linda, Memories in a Teacup, Inside We're Wild Things and Semi-Skimmed.
A very bizarre collection of flash fiction. Some were interesting, some were a bit odd and difficult to understand. There was something rather poetic in some of the flash fiction pieces. I’d say the collection is a combination of flash fiction and poetry, a hybrid form. I’d love to see some of these stories expanded upon.
This is an absolutely otherworldly, dizzying and mesmerising collection of stories, punctuated with little feral works of art. I devoured it in one sitting and cannot recommend it enough. Gray's has a command of words unlike any other.
Personal favourites include: One Night with a Werewolf, Dreaming Grown-Up Dreams, and Fairy Tale Endings.
3.5- still in my poetry era. Picked this up at an event where I heard them perform, and I highly recommend seeing them live if you get the chance. As a book it wasn't my favorite, but the illustrations are stunning and supporting local artists is never a regret.
