The star of HGTV’s Flip or Flop Christina Anstead partners with celebrity nutritionist Cara Clark to help women remodel their lives—in mind, body and spirit.
Christina Anstead, star of HGTV’s Flip or Flop and Christina on the Coast, is known for her boundless energy, positive attitude, and radiant looks. But what was hidden from fans of her popular television shows was a very real health crisis, including a diagnosis of autoimmune disease, infertility, and the emotional and physical exhaustion of going through a divorce with two young children—all in the public eye. The stress of managing it all wreaked even more havoc on her already strained body. It wasn’t until Christina met nutritionist Cara Clark that she discovered a path that allowed her to regain her health and heal in body and mind.
In The Wellness Remodel, Christina chronicles her health journey and shares what she’s learned about the importance of creating balance and prioritizing physical and mental self-care. Divided into three parts—”Gut Rehab” (food and nutrition); “Building a Strong Foundation” (exercise); and “The Rewire” (mindfulness)—the book will be an accessible guide to full-body wellness, offering simple strategies anyone can put into action for immediate results. Christina and Cara will also share their simple cooking strategies built for the real word of working parents and busy weeknights, including sixty of their favorite recipes, complete with beautiful photos and easy-to-follow instructions.
Inspiring, informative, fun, and empowering, The Wellness Remodel will give readers everything they need to nourish the body, keep it strong, and help their spirit flourish.
The book is ok, some recipes even when followed as directed are flops. The co-author Cara Clark is a huge hypocrite. Cara Clark posted a recipe on her IG and someone commented that it didn't work out for them. Cara immediately jumped in and started bullying her and told her "taking responsibility for your actions is something else we teach on the Wellness Remodel" I was extremely put off by the comments. As a health care provider that constantly encourages patients to eat healthy I find the biggest obstacles are doubt and cost. You don't shame someone into eating healthy. Do you think the women that was attacked will try anymore Cara Clark recipes? Probably not.
An educational book for your health and wellness - why not! There is always time for a personal reset!
Sometimes we need a little reboot and this book provides you with grocery lists, pantry must have items, easy work out moves (that you can do right in your own living room) and easy recipes (without the hard to find ingredients!). The authors also explaining how important fat is and the macros which can be confusing at first. If you are looking for a little reboot for your body and soul, go get this book! I am excited for my nutrition change!
Update: I’ve changed my mind since Christina posted on Instagram days ago that she smoked the venom of a Bufo toad (the same critter weirdos lick to hallucinate and get high). She insane, she’s in need of psychological help, not spiritual and/or life coaches, shaman, sage burning hippies, or whatever other fruitcakes come out of the woodwork. She needs an actual psychiatrist. And Tarek and Ant need to file for full custody of their kids ASAP and ask the courts that she only have supervised visitation. Anyone that lacking in judgment to actually do what she did, but then to tell the general public about it, should not be allowed to care for children. What the hell kind of example is she setting for her kids?!?! Granted, this wasn’t mentioned in her book, but I would argue that it bears weighing because she does discuss all of the other metaphysical, holistic, spiritual bullshit in her book, and it appears that she has stepped up her game to now include hallucinogenics. And while she claims she doesn’t want to be judged for her choices (who does?), I would say that she should then keep her weirder choices to herself. Why share anything that controversial and off the wall along with the message that you hate the media and public tearing you apart for your choices, but then you provide them the very ammunition to do just that. She put herself in the judgment crosshairs of the year on this one, totally 100% her own fault. Full stop. Tarek and Ant - hurry and file emergency protective orders for your kids.
This is my original review of her book:
So I like Christina’s tv persona. Obviously, I don’t know her, but at least image wise, I like who I think she is at least in small bits. I absolutely HATE how she and Tarek remodel homes, but that’s another story.
This book, she claims is 100% NOT a diet - spoiler alert, it definitely IS. However, it is to her point, not full of crazy, rigid, restrictive rules. It is in fact, more of a healthful guide as to the types of foods (every type!) that everyone should eat in their diets. It’s basically just common sense, no big surprises or revelations here.
This book is broken down into a few main parts, addressing foods, then exercise, then spiritual well-being. I skimmed past the exercise stuff, because I don’t need to read it, but there did appear to be basic common exercises that most people do who workout.
The last part about the spiritual crap, was where I got annoyed. To tell me that the best way to rid yourself of the negative energy of toxic people, is to fucking burn sage?!?! No. And it went on from there, not a lot of god squad stuff or anything, but about nonsense like essential oils, Yin Yoga, etc.
Overall, it’s probably a good starter book for someone who knows zero about basic nutrition or exercise, and who is into crazy hippie shit like burning sage, but for most of us, not so much.
I will say though, that there is a very large section of recipes included and most of them sound really delicious. I actually plan to try a great many of them. Bottom line, there’s probably something in this book for everyone. I still like Christina, but I won’t be smudging burning sage bundles in my house.
This is an interesting book and presents some really good ideas. However, I find the "remodel" to be a bit overwhelming. It's too much to try to implement and for me at least, I think to commit to the plan would require more hours per week than is possible. I am using bits of their tips and guidance, such as for the upper body workout and drinking water every morning upon waking. Overall, this may work for some but I need a "remodel" that is simpler than what is presented in the book.
I liked the simple health advice and recipes. As far as celebrity wellness books go this is better than most. I don't care for a two week detox 4 times a year and the section on crystals, but I wouldn't buy into those things no matter who wrote the book.
I don't agree with everything, but overall the book is a good reminder to take care of yourself holistically. These are things we know but often don't do
Cute, easy to read book but not entirely sound advice. An example is this exert: “If too little glucose is available in your blood, which is what happens when you follow a low-carbohydrate diet (I’m looking at you, keto!), then your liver hoards glucose so that your brain, which needs glucose to function, doesn’t starve. While your body will start to break down fat to use as fuel, your brain can’t run that way for long, and it will send out the Bat-Signal for more calories.”
This is medically incorrect as the body can run on ketones and fatty acids, except for a small portion of the brain and the retina. Any glucose demand is easily met by gluconeogenesis.
If you are a believer of the Standard American Diet (SAD), than you will probably enjoy this book more than I did. However, science suggests that eating 50% of your calories from carbs is probably going to do you more harm than good. Aside from the misleading diet advice, I enjoyed the attitude of both of the authors.
I’ve been following Cara on Instagram for 3 years now and purchased many of her challenges. I love her wisdom and her recipes!! When I actually followed the reset I felt amazing. I finally bought this book to give me more insight into what I’ve been slowing incorporating and wanting to incorporate more into my life. It’s an extremely quick read, not the best book I’ve read, but is a very helpful guide for anyone wanting to follow this lifestyle that Cara teaches. Whole health and understanding your body. Intuitive eating and spirituality. Can’t say enough good things about Cara Clark. Though I’m not a perfect follower I’m always eager to learn from her.
After reading this book, I am very motivated to improve myself and listen to my body. After some health issues the last five years I have learned to listen to my body better and this book really hit home. This book is a great motivational book after overall wellness with some great recipes at the end. I can't wait to try the recipes!
Easy good looking recipes, looks like easy or do-able workouts. I enjoyed their perspective and reasons for eating habits. Definitely will reference for meals and some workoutd
Practical advice. Didn't try any of the recipes, so can't evaluate those. A pretty book, but a little woo woo for me (sage cleansing and crystals anyone?)
Fun recipes, tips and photos to reboot your life, heal your mind, spirit and body. I was so thrilled for my favorite HGTV star Christina Anstead’s highly-anticipated debut book co-authored with her Nutritionist friend Cara Clark. So I bought five copies on Amazon before it was available. I keep one for staging homes (beautiful front cover), one perched on my kitchen counter, and for gifts. My faves are her gut-friendly anti inflammatory tips. + 14-Day Reset Meal Plan. Ie, Raw fermented cabbage is now a staple in my diet; I now feel the positive benefits. My fave recipes are: Fermented Cucumber Salad; Satay Lettuce Wraps; Blueberry Muffin Overnight Oats; Baked Oatmeal Bars and Peanut Butter Chia Chocolate Chip Muffins. Helpful grocery lists, easy recipes, pantry staple must-haves, some meditation/work-out moves, some of the authors’ personal photos applicable to their lifestyles and topics. Perching it on the kitchen counter is inspirational, motivational and a constant reminder to eat healthy. #HGTV #Fliporflop #christinaanstead #christinaonthecoast #gutfriendly
I have to say I really love this book. I read it cover to cover and it makes a lot of sense. It’s not complicated, it’s logical, and simple in the best way possible. It’s easy ways to create a healthy balanced lifestyle on a day to day basis. It reminds you to take care of yourself first, which fills your cup so that you can take care of the ones you love. It has a lot of great healthy ideas for all aspects of life…mind, body and soul. Even if you already know these things, it reminds you and motivates you to put them into practice. I have been making the recipes and tried most of them, I love them and make them all the time. As a single mom of a child with autism and also a widow, this has been a wonderful, inspiring book that has really helped me to lead a more healthy and balanced life.
There is nothing regarding advice or instruction on how nutrients fuel your mind and body that most readers will not have seen somewhere else. I like that they provide a holistic approach to health with diet, working out, detoxing from things like chaos and social media by taking time for yourself. The advice that this isn’t a one size fits all and you have to pay attention to what you need personally is good and not something many fitness or diet coaches preach.
The best part about this book is the collection of recipes that all seem to be fantastic. This was recommended by a coworker and instead of her sending me recipes each week, I decided to buy the book for myself.
I had just visited a nutritionist to help design a food plan that would support my health goals. I went to the bookstore looking for books to support my new lifestyle, and this book checked all the boxes. Easy, understandable advice to put into motion even though you are already busy. It gave me the confidence to listen to myself to do what is best for me. There is no fail with this plan. Just do your best to follow the guidelines everyday for a better you. Very empowering.
Fine for a celebrity wellness book. I picked it up on a whim at the library because a few of the recipes looked good. Some of them were delicious, some were nothing I'd ever want to eat again. It bothered me how the recipe pictures didn't always match up to the ingredients listed, for example the recipe called for scrambled eggs but the picture showed a fried egg, or the waffles being topped with raspberries but no call for berries in the ingredient list. Little mistakes like this throughout the book make it seem amateur, at least in the cookbook section.
This book was a life changer for me! Do you eat carbs or not.... Skip meals trying to eat less.....killing yourself with exercise....I knew there had to be a better way! I now eat 4 meals a day and have slimmed down and feel amazing! 50% carbs, 30% fat and 20% protein. I thought I knew what healthy eating was and I was wrong! I feel so great and will keep up the healthy changes. Try it! Believe me you won't regret it!
I checked out this new book from our local library and liked it so much that I will purchase my own copy. The recipes included in the back are delicious. (I did notice a pumpkin fingerprint on the book by the pumpkin pancake recipe, so a previous reader also tried the recipes.) Christina Anstead and Cara Clark offer great suggestions for a wellness reboot. Beautiful photos throughout. A nice book for those trying to juggle workouts, eating healthy, family, and life.
This book was super helpful in terms of learning how to eat in a way that keeps a balance blood sugar level and how to healthily detox and then reintroduce dairy and gluten to see if they have an effect on your body. I will definitely be implementing some tips and using some of these recipes. It was cool that they were Christians but there was some new age spirituality stuff as well that I just glossed over. Overall informative and I agreed with most things.
Great book for changing into a better, healthier version of yourself both mentally and physically. Most nutrition books don't go to much into the aspect of loving your body and having a healthy state of mind. It was refreshing to read through and I took away some tips for striving towards bettering not only my body but also my mind.

Hard to rate, but this book spoke to me. I love that it gives you permission to listen to what your body is telling you and rest when needed. A bit much with some recipes, but like all diet books, I take it with a grain of salt, and take away what I need.
Easy read. It’s like healthy living tips for dummies, and I mean that in a good way. Very basic and realistic, but encouraging. Have made many of the recipes and some are REALLY good. Did the 14 day cleanse and actually enjoyed it.
Take what helps you, leave what doesn’t. Personally, I love the “keep it simple” approach to diet, exercise, and life. This book is easy to follow and, more importantly, easy to implement. The recipes are pretty good too!
2.75. I picked this up due to the author experiencing Hashimoto’s and other autoimmune issues. While the structure of the book touches on some aspects I’ve found helpful for improving quality of life, it’s more of a book to skim for my needs.
The Wellness Remodel... a simple introduction into wellness. I appreciate they touched on all aspects of health: faith, fitness, self care, and eating well, but the text was very repetitive and only acts as a basis for change, not enlisting actual methods to improve life. The stories both authors told felt very shallow and unbelievable.
