“Fate – (The Edge of Forever #1)” by D.C. Gambel
5 out of 5 stars

Make plenty of time to read this book because you will not be able to put this one down! Gambel has spun a tale of secrets, intrigue, drama, and passion that will suck you in and won’t let you go!

The story centers on Gabriella, a rarity among her kind. She’s a half-vampire/half-human combination without many weaknesses. Unlike others like her, she enjoys the benefits of both breeds. She is the only known living day-walker so she is able to be out in the sun and blends in quite well with the human world…and that’s just the way she likes it! Her mother is trying to match her up with their master, Anton, and wants her to be a docile, good little vamp but Gaby has a mind of her own. She wants freedom and escape from the confines of her vampire nest. Her life is turned upside down when she literally bumps into Grayson, a human, one evening out. When love and passion bloom between the two, Gaby is forced to fight for the freedom she has always longed for.

Gaby is a pretty cool chick. She is smart, has a good job, and seems to thrive outside of the nest that she calls home. It is apparent that there is something different about her and even though you get a small glimpse of what that is in the prologue, it isn’t until the very end that you find out the full scope of that difference. I’m looking forward to seeing how that information changes her in the next book. The chemistry she has with Grayson is off the charts. They click from the very beginning and it is easy to believe in their love story. He is a good balance for her and only serves to make her stronger in the end.

Grayson is ultimate boyfriend material. He is hot, smart, successful, patient, determined, and unafraid of who she truly is. When Gaby would walk away in order to protect him, he refuses to let her go and shows her that they are stronger together. I will say that I was a little thrown off by the ease with which he accepted her and her werewolf best friend, Shawn. I would have liked to see a just a bit more shock and skepticism. Overall I found him to be a layered character who was well written and a good match for Gaby.

The side characters in the story were developed really well. They each had a role to play and Gambel fleshed them all out well. Shawn was the consummate best friend, her mother overprotective and at times overbearing, Anton was exactly what you would picture in a powerful master vampire, and even Ava played the jealous girl well. The entire cast helped to bring me into the story and make it live and breathe for me.

I’m intrigued and invested in Gambel’s series. I immediately wanted access to book two so I could see where the story went next! I can’t wait to get my hands on it! I would recommend this book for all the paranormal lovers out there! You won’t be disappointed!

Fate

This is the first book in this series and oh how sweet it is. This is how Gabby meets and falls in love with Grayson and how Anton becomes a nightmare for both of them. I can't wait to read the next book and see how things turn out for these characters.

Fate lordy lordy where to begin with this review.... I mean this book had it all and I mean had it all. I could not read it fast enough and hope the author gets this on Audible because I would play it over and over again!

Gaby is unique because she is half human and half vampire. She has the ability to walk in the light and enjoy everything the humans have and the vampires have. One day Gaby is out enjoying herself when she runs into a human Grayson and boy oh boy does she like what she sees. But the thing is she is not allowed to date anyone outside her nest and besides that her mother is trying to fix her up with the nest leader Anton who wants her.

When Grayson runs into Gaby he does not know what hit him. He is so intrigued by her and wants nothing more than to get to know this woman some more. What he does not get is why she is so secretive and quiet but he is willing to over look it as long as he gets to see her again. As the two embark on a forbidden love they will soon discover that not everything is as it seems and they will be in danger if they continue this relationship.

What will Gaby do? Will she walk away and into the arms of Anton? Or will she stay by Grayson's side and fight for what her heart wants?

OMG! OMG! I just finished it and holy crap, I can't wait for the next one. This book takes a new spin on vampire novels. Unlike with most vampire romance Gaby is our vampire and Grayson is human, and what a human he is. He's any woman's ideal man. Gaby is also unique amount her kind. She can walk in the sun, and thank god she doesn't sparkle, not that I have anything against twilight. Once I stared it, I couldn't put it down. Now I'm having withdraws and need to know what happens next. I'm definitely invested in this series now.

I'm not a fan of this genre but I did enjoy reading this book. I had a very hard time accepting the fact that the main character's love interest so readily accepted all the unusual situations in the story. It would have been a much better read if it included the conflict of the main character trying to get her "soul mate" to accept her. Overall, it was an interesting story and I'd recommend it to fans of the genre. You won't be disappointed if you give this book a chance.

Robbie's Review 3.5
Events set into motion are almost impossible to stop. One event triggered another in a domino effect. The butterfly effect where one small splash in the water creates a ripple that grows larger as it moves away from the source. A friend being late causing you to meet the love of your life when would, otherwise have passed right by being never the wiser.

Fate is the first book in author D. C. Gambel's The Edge of Forever series. When Gabriella Carmichael runs into Grayson Alexander (literally) for the first time, she has no idea that her world is about to be turned upside down. As the daughter of a vampire, she has led a sheltered life which would be even more sheltered if her mother had her way. However, with her unique genetic makeup, Gabriella can be out in the daylight and has a job which plunges her even deeper into Grayson's world. As Gaby becomes more emotionally involved with Grayson, she finds that she must reveal her true nature to him.
He cut me off. "Why would you want to continue a relationship with me if you're worried I'll leave when I find out whatever it is you're so worried about? Just tell me.

Finding Grayson more accepting of her revelations than she could have imagined, Gaby is determined to have a life with him despite the disapproval of her mother and Anton, the 400-year-old vampire who is head of their nest. While Grayson and Gaby fall deeper in love despite the bizarre nature of Gaby's world, Anton is biding his time before claiming Gaby for himself.
I knew Grayson loved me but I had never once thought how much. He loved me enough to put up with the craziness that surrounded me, the vampires, the werewolves, me drinking his blood, death threats and enough to introduce me to his parents, when he'd never introduced another woman to them.

Refusing to give Grayson up, Gaby tries to move back and forth between her two worlds until she is given an ultimatum with crushing results.
Frozen, I couldn't believe what had just happened. I had been exiled. I don't know how much time passed before Grayson placed his hand on my shoulder. I turned looking at his hand, and then flicked my eyes to his face. Seeing the love and sadness in his expression caused me to relax.

Readers will find this a quick and easy read. The story line flows well even though there is a lot going on with the assortment of supernatural beings involved. In the first chapters of the book, the vampires and werewolves seem a bit tame by the usual otherworldly standards, but the story builds to a climax that will make any vampire proud. In rather predictable fashion, Gaby's BFF is a snarky gay male; unpredictably...he is a werewolf! I found Grayson to be almost unbelievably sweet and accepting of Gaby's unusual nature, but hey! We could all use more sweetness and acceptance in life! There is a lot of vampire steam, so fans of that dark world will be more than pleased with the chemistry between Gaby and Grayson. Although Fate is part of a series, the author was kind enough to write a satisfying ending that will leave readers looking forward to the next book rather than teetering on the edge of a cliff.

Gabriella and Alexander Grayson created a world for me that kept me intrigued and wanting more. He is a sexy billionaire and she is a half-breed that doesn't need saving. It is nice and refreshing to see a woman take charge and be the hero for once.

Wow! This was really hard to put down. It was very well written. There is some romance scenes that are steamy And make your toes curl. There is some action and it is also very paranormal. I just loved the characters in the story. Gabriella Carmichael is a very strong, attracted and brave character. This story is about Gabriella who she thinks she is a halfbreed, but is she really half human and half vampire like she thinks. She meets the hot, steamy and billonaire Grayson Alexander. As she gets to know Grayson she must void the 400 hundred year old vampire named Anton who is obsessed with Gabriella. But she can’t help falling in love with Grayson. But will she follow through with her attraction with Grayson or will she stay away from him? Will Gabriella be able to stop Anton’s advances or she give in to save the man she loves?

Eh...I wanted it to be better..

I tried to not let the earlier frustration I had with this book win out and cause me to stop reading. I finished it. But my views didn't change. I don't like the characters. Any of them. Grayson seems fake,he's too perfect. Gabby is so babied and immature, she drives me crazy. She is so naive, I mean come on you're a vampire and you can't tell someone is tracking you for like weeks? I don't buy it, even in your "love haze" you couldn't have been so stupid. She continually antagonized the camps at the best and expected nothing to come from it? There were no twists that happened in this book that I didn't foresee and I kept waiting for something of note to happen. I may continue this series only because I want to know more about Gabby's father and to see if her character grows as the books go on, but I am in no rush.

Kept me reading even when I wanted to go to sleep.

I looked forward to reading a vampire novel by an author that's new to me and wasn't let down. I read before bed but with this one that was a mistake because I kept wanting to see what happened next. Gabriella, the main character was refreshingly blunt, her mother someone I wanted to slap and her BFF surprisingly a werewolf. It was great to get more than just the vampire angle but the werewolf one too. And if you like a romance novel with steam it's in here. Several times! The novel ends in a way that makes you want to go grab the next in the series as soon as you can.

“Fate is a captivating, intriguing, dramatic, supernatural love story. Gabriella and Greyson are wonderful main characters, with intensity, strength, and fortitude to make this romance work. Anton, the head of the Clutch makes you want to take a stake to his heart. This tale pulls you in and holds your heart captive to the last page. I’m excited to continue this series!

I really enjoyed this book and its twist as the female lead being the supernatural and the male love interest a mere mortal. There's an underlying story and interesting plot slowly developing. These intrigued me and kept me reading avidly until the end. I hope there is more to come as this story is far from over!
