I'm sorry to report that this book did nothing for me. It fell far short of its predecessor, SHADES OF GRAY, which I loved. I found the story to be stilted and forced and couldn't relate to Edward, though I thought he was a good character in SHADES OF GRAY. I thought Marisa and Grigori had settled into obscurity and were dull.

If I could give negative stars, I would. The plot is garbage. The character relationship development is not believable. The characters are cliche. The antagonist is weak. The emotion is dry.

Reread. Still found it a good read. I will be reading the rest of this series too.

After Sundown is the second book in Amanda Ashley's Vampire Trilogy. This book is suppose to be centered around vampire-hunter-turned-vampire Edward, and his love interest, Kelly. Although their story is told in this book, the characters from the first book, Grigori and Marisa, are a big part of this book also.

Edward is full of self-hatred after being made a vampire by Grigori to save his life. He is on the path to self destruction. Edward begs Grigori to destroy him, but Grigori refuses. He asks Edward to give it six months, and if he still wants to be destroyed, he will do it. Edward reluctantly agrees to this.

Kelly has lost everything. She has no job, no money, nothing going on in her life. She feels hopeless and decides she wants to end it all. She jumps from a pier into the water. What she doesn't know is that Edward is sees her plunge into the water.

Edward and Kelly seem to find some sort of salvation through each other and find a purpose for being. Although the story isn't really unique, it is sweet.

It seemed to me that the author took two stories and combined them to make this book work. There's Edward and Kelly, then we have Marisa and Grigori's story continuing at the same time. Then to tie everything together, the author has the appearance of the "bad vampire" Khira. Edward, Grigori, Kelly, and Marisa, along with Tom the vampire hunter, come together to try to stop her.

I don't think this book was as good as the first (Shades of Gray) in this trilogy, but it wasn't bad. I did enjoy it, but I wasn't fighting sleep to keep turning the pages.

AFTER SUNDOWN was okay. Didn’t rock my socks, but didn’t put me to sleep either nor take a long time to finish.

Vampire hunter Edward Ramsey isn’t taking his transformation into a vampire very well. With a six month trial before Grigori Chiavari will honor his request to end his life, Edward is barely surviving when he saves Kelly Anderson from her suicide attempt.

Now much was told about Kelly’s past that leads her to lose the well-off life she once led. She takes to Edward just as quickly as he does her and after a few bumps, comes to terms with his being a vampire and moves in with him.

Kelly saves Edward’s life. What once was a countdown to the end is an eternity with her. I thought the romance came on quick and her turning sudden and not well thought out. Her moment of regret seemed to just be thrown in there when she took to the change well.

When Khira comes back to town, they never thought they would face a more dangerous vampire than Kristov, but Khira quickly makes her power play and must be stopped.

Joining with Grigori, Marisa and fellow hunter Tom Duncan they attempt to take her out in a fight for their life.

Overall, kinda basic story, but I liked the characters and all they had to overcome and accept. Grigori and Marisa over if she can finally commit to the change, Edward and Kelly’s budding romance and marriage, and Tom’s views on friendship when he learns of Edward’s fate.

This book showed promise. The big bad vampire hunter is now (gasp) undead himself. How will he cope with his existence? Will he become a vicious killer like he believes all blood suckers are? Enter prospective love interest Kelly Anderson. Can she help Ramsey accept what he is? Can she accept him and fall in love? ...you see where this is going. I was glad there was finally an introduction of a strong female lead, unfortunately she was the psychotic vampire who must be destroyed. Kelly herself was impulsive and flaky. First she tries to off herself by jumping off a bridge. She's saved by Ramsey, falls in love with him and begs him to turn her without actually thinking it through. It's painful to watch the realization hit her that it can't be undone. Boy meets girl, saves girl, turns girl into a vampire, slays bad guy and they all live happily ever after.

Quite entertaining story about a vampire, Edward Ramsey, who finds Kelly Anderson trying to kill herself and convinces her to try working for him for a month to see if he can change her mind about dying. He sweetens the deal with some money.

As the story proceeds they find themselves attracted and the two of them have to deal with the truth and with the other vampires in the city, at least one of which is Edward's ex.

I don't know why, it's a pretty cliched story, but it was quite readable and entertaining.

I didn't like this book as much as I like the first in the series.

Kelly seemed to be really "full steam ahead" with Edward. It just felt odd to me. She seemed to fall in love with Edward in no time flat. Seems crazy...I could understand attraction or lust but love seems too crazy and too soon.

Khira's back story didn't seem to match the story that was provided from the first book. That throw me.

I could not believe the robotic conversations. Perhaps it was how I was reading the book -simply wanted to get done with the book.

I originally bought the paperback in 2011 at Barnes & Nobles. I bought the Kindle Version on Amazon in April 2018. This is the sequel to shades of grey. Not quite as good but close. Still one of my favorite Amanda Ashley books mostly because the hero was a vampire hunter, turned vampire and therefore had a different personality than most of Ashley's other heroes who tend to be the same. You sort of get to go along on his journey of adapting to being a vampire.

I finished it, hence the two stars. But I was bored. It really puzzled me how Kelly would want to become a vampire so soon, seemingly without thought. Edward's transition from loving Marysa to Kelly was too fast. The final showdown with Kirha wasn't thought through. What was their plan? I also found Marysa's position towards the end disturbing. That she had lived through Kristov before and wasn't training even a bit to defend herself was ridiculous.
Overall I expected a romance and it wasn't.

This was book 2 in the series. I really had a hard time getting into this one. The characters seemed stilted, with little emotion or interest. The story seemed drawn out through the whole book. What could have been told in one chapter was dragged through the whole book. I just didn't enjoy this one at all. I usually love Amanda Ashley's writing but this one was almost boring to me.

This was my first vampire-themed book, and it was as expected. The language wasn't what I would call "conversational English," but more regal, or Victorian (i guess?). But it had a decent plot for a lazy weekend romance novel, and I found myself smiling more than once at the sweet love story of the un-dead.

the thought of a mortal being head over heels in love with a vampire is totally thrilling. The way the characters compliment each other so well. Vampire hunter turned vampire, Vampire married to a mortal. Vampire breaking a sacred code and hunting and destroying all vampires because of selfishness and the urge to be dominant, what can I say it was just every unexpected thing in this book.

I really like edward & kelly & would have liked more of their story. unfortunately for them, this seemed more like part two of marisa & grigori's story, with edward & kelly tossed in as an afterthought. still an enjoyable story, just kinda misleading, imo.

ACTION PACKED!
The book starts out a bit slow just going over everything you missed from its predecessor.
An action packed vampire romance novel that you won't be able to put down.

it was pretty good, it was more about the trouble with Khira, and Grigori and Marisa's relationship than Edward and Kelly. she could have gone into more detail about their relationship...

Very much enjoyed this story. It was a bit strange as it is basically following two story lines. I don't recall much/if any smut, but there is heat.

I enjoyed the first book in this trilogy a bit more. As I left a review on Shades of Gray, I noted that some scenes were rushed, and too many extra details were written. I can say this for After Sundown as well. However, the first half of this book is quite boring and slow. It’s repeats memory from the first book, and doesn’t have much newness to offer. There was a scene in particular in which made me tear up a bit, when Grigori was forced to stay with Khira and leave his wife, Marissa. I did feel the emotion throughout that, which is why I will at least give this 2 stars. Sure, if you’re interested in reading this book, I will still recommend it, but keep in mind it isn’t the best.
