Belonging

I read this book because I wanted to know more about Tony and Leandra after meeting them in The New Money Girls. It didn't answer my questions about them, only gave me more. This for me is a cliffhanger. I knew it was book one of a three series but I thought it was a standalone. I guess I should have known better after reading all five books in The New Money Girls series as they were all interconnected.

You were given back stories on both of them but neither was fully developed. I wondered why I had this book for a year and never finished reading it. It was extremely difficult to keep reading. The family members were introduced but they weren't fleshed out enough to understand why they made the choices they did. Leandra's family was unlikable in every sense. Generations of her family were so color struck, it was pathetic and they added nothing to the book. Other than her aunt Lina, her family was totally expendable. As interesting as her aunt was, more of her backstory was needed. Being the darkest in the family, with all of the emotional distress she suffered, how did she become such a self confident woman?

Tony's family was likeable but they too were underdeveloped. The plot was thin. It appeared to be thrown together to account for them living in the Fields. Chitty, Tony's second, was unstable because of the abuse he suffered as a child. It was obvious that he needed extensive counseling. Why didn't Tony's parents, who knew his background and loved him like a son, get him help for his mental instability? The ending was a mishmash of all the people in the book. Tony's relationship with his partners in crime was nonsensical. Why would they allow Tony to gain such power in the community, especially at such a young age? The ending was nonsensical and did nothing to make me want to read the other two books in the series.

LeAndra was a real G who moved in silence like lasagna! Tony was used to being in charge. Chitty was a brother but hater at the same time; threatened by Tony's relationship.

This was a fast paced novel that kept it moving. Premise was good.

The way this story is written is what captured me and I haven't been able to out it down. Tony is the kind of man you take a chance on and there is so much more to LeAndra than I expected

Whew! Jimi you did it again. I loved Mr from the beginning of “The New Money Girls” so I was highly anticipating his and Mrs story, and you didn’t disappoint me at all, can’t wait to see what happens next. This is your year.
