Tony Stark, Victor von Doom, T'Challa, Amadeus Cho...the greatest minds in the Marvel Universe all have one thing in common: they're not smarter than a 4th grader! Lunella Lafayette is the smartest there is - and her brain is matched by Devil Dinosaur's brawn! They'll need both to stand up to some of the worst villains the world has to offer - and maybe even one of its greatest heroes! Because while Reed Richards, the guy who used to be the cleverest of all, is away, his best pal Benjamin J. Grimm is here to defend his pole position! Then, Lunella has her biggest adventure yet - a journey to the Living Planet! But are you ready for Moon Girl to meet...Girl-Moon? And who exactly are Devil Girl and Moon Dinosaur?!
I’m obsessed with Lunella Lafayette and her pal Devil Dinosaur. She’s truly one of a kind, and I’m so attached to DD. Lots of great cameos throughout, super fun story arcs, and tons of laughs. Perfect for a budding Afrofuturist!!
I started reading these comics because it made me feel inspired to see a little black girl on the cover. But then to realize that she was named the smartest person in the world?! It just made me believe that I could do anything. So if I enjoyed the comics you best believe when I saw the graphic novel I had to grab it. I will always enjoy Moon Girl’s adventures and I’m always her for the beautiful artwork and colors as well.
Collects #13-18 (The Smartest There is), #19-23 (Girl-Moon) and #24 (a kind of epilogue) The Smartest There Is: 2.5/5 A weird 'guest star of the month' series with a real lack of focus, and the rush to wrap each story up and have it connect to the following leads to some questionable logic. Girl-Moon: 2/5 Back to focusing on a continuous story, but starting to feel like it was being made up on the fly - things set up at the end of one issue are sometimes abandoned at the start of the next, and again there is a frequent lack of internal logic. Often there is also a disconnect between the art and the story in an odd way. A shame, as Bustos' art is always beautiful but it doesn't seem to be telling the story the words are. Epilogue: 4/5 Really fun - 3 simple 6-page stories of some fun crossovers.
Moon Girl and Devil Dino are back and its a step down from last volume but still endearing and fun. The first arc seemed like an excuse to throw guest stars against the wall but not enough reasons for them to be. The second arc was actually heartbreaking but a bit predictable. The art continues to be a perfect match for the book. Overall, I had high expectations for the book and they weren't meant but its still recommended.
Really glad this new generation of comics are coming out with female superheroes who are perceptive and flawed. I don't usually go in for comics about kids, especially super hero kids, but this was really entertaining! The reading level is probably for middle to high school. Paced well and lots of interesting stories. I would pick up more Moon Girl. If you like Squirrel Girl you'd like Moon Girl and vice versa.
What's not to like? A young black girl as the smartest person in the world? An angry red T-Rex? Wolverine? This book has it all! I highly recommend this book to my students who live graphic novels. My 6v year old son is obsessed with Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
oh my gosh! I loved this book very much! I think it's cute how Devil Dinosaur is all ready to fight in one moment and in the next moment he kinda acts like a puppy. very good book.
