A comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.

Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.

Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.

Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.

Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.

This was a massive read!

Took me quite some time to read through it but loved it throughout!

What an epic book with so many great twists and turns and like its the origin of Miles into the Ultimate universe and its so well done from trying to fit into the legacy to becoming his own hero and introducing his supporting cast and then whatever happens with the ending its flawlessly executed!

There are some great moments like when he fights VENOM and all that follows or the story with his Uncle Prowler and the drama with his father, fight with Galactus and all and the drama with the Ultimates (Avengers) and the result of it and finally i like the Ganke character and he brings a lot of gravitas into the role and finally the big Peter team up of 616 to fight Mysterio and the return of 1610 Peter and their fight with Green Goblin remains a highlight for me.

I loved this volume and Miles is such a deep and interesting character and so well fleshed out and the art is so good throughout and now tying perfectly into Secret wars and sets him in main continuity. This to day has to be some of Bendis best work and the way he brings this character to life is splendid.

Now that’s a Spider-Man story. It’s a perfect balance of humor and drama, levity and grim. Miles is his own Spider-Man and I’m here for it. And incredibly illustrated.

This was literally a weighty book with a lot of pages, reading and fitness at the same time.
Spiderman, Superman & Batman were my first contact with the Superhero genre. Of the three a nine year old would be most attracted to another boy wonder. Spidey was fun, witty and cool. I did keep somewhat up with him for a while. But somewhere lost touch with the Spiderman until McFarlane did the art and just pulled me back in. I did follow McFarlane to Spawn which was Allright.
Now I returned to Spiderman as he just got killed by his nemesis Osborne and from the ashes came a whole new Spidey. Of course I was not so sure about Miles Moralis, did enjoy the madness of the movie.
As a omnibus in his adventures ending in the opening of the secret wars was a big journey, in which he takes up the mask of the Spiderman and tries to honor his hero. Along the way tries to be a normal student, be a son to his father and mother, being blackmailed by his criminal uncle. Learning to harness his power and impress the likes of Thor, Tony Stark, Captain America and Nick Fury. Perhaps most important Peter Parker.
This journey is certainly not without loss and betrayal, and Miles does stay true to the original Spiderman his goals and choices.
A brilliant reboot of the Spiderman chronicals, the collection is a great collection of Miles adventures and is a heck lot of fun. Great Art and great storylines with all the classic enemies and allies.
There is a whole new generation of new hero’s created by man but not willing to be exploited, Miles and his friends are proof.
That was a heck of a ride, well worth the time.

LOVED THIS. Fun and enjoyable read with a great character. My only criticisms would be the few instances it ties into events (and like a lot of omnibuses) you don't always get the full story. And also the ending is a bit crap (thanks Secret Wars), but Miles is perfectly crafted. He's a legacy character but he's also his own character.

Miles had HUGE shoes to fill since Ultimate Spider-Man was soooo good for soooo long and luckily, thanks to have Bendis still on this title, he did so with ease.

We start with Miles super young, not even in High School yet, getting bit and learning how to use his powers. He at first doesn't want to be a hero, only saving someone in the moment. But when he witnesses the death of Peter, he knows what he must do. These opening issues really worked for me since Peter, who's also a teenager, just feels so much older with Miles feeling like such a young and inexperience kid at the start. But once he sees the original Spider-Man die, Miles uses that as motivation to pick up the mantle. Even saying if he used his powers then, Peter might still be alive on this day.

We then are thrown into the family mix. The supporting cast from his mother, to father, to especially his Uncle Aaron who turns out to be the prowler gets to mix MIles up in fun and interesting ways. Making him question if he's doing the right thing while trying to sort this superhero stuff out. It's great watching a multilayer character grow and it's not as simple as yes or no for Miles a lot of the time when making the choices. The arc with his uncle is both exciting, thanks to his uncle dynamic, but also the villain, the Scorpion, feels like a major threat that works on multiple levels.

Then we shift to Miles trying to help the Ultimates, which is this universes Avengers. It's a fun way to show how MIles will interact with other heroes and it's an exciting crossover. The best arc though for me in the entire volume is the Symbiot War arc. Which has Miles having to go head to head with Venom, and this venom wants Spider-Man more than anything. This leads to some fantastic fights and a devasting ending that has MIles grow up quicker than he'd like.

From there we do get more fun moments, including Miles getting a girlfriend and him working closer to other heroes like Cloak and Dagger. However things do get a bit worse as we go on as a return character really didn't sit well with me. It was handled well enough but honestly I'd prefer it never happened. The very last arc is also semi-weak, shifting the focus on MIles father in a boring backstory that didn't do really anything for me.

Saying that the overall quality of this Omnibus is great. It continues the trend of keeping high stakes but also intimate slice of life drama close to the characters to keep them relatable. Some of my favorite moments in the entire Ultimate Spider-Man line, including Peter's, is in this volume. If you want to get the know the origins of Miles, this is the book to grab.

A 4 out of 5.

While the quality of stories does go down near the end this was the rare Omnibus that I was excited to read from start to finish. Most Omnibuses - due to their size - are hard for me to get through. Unlike a smaller collection which is either a short read or a collection of "best of" it is hard to expect an omnibus to grab your attention from start to finish but this one did (with the exception of the very end).

Let's start with the art - there are a few artists on this run but there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. They are all exceptional and do well with the quiet moments (conversations) which is a must for someone drawing a Bendis story.

Let's move on to Bendis. As a writer he can divide a comic audience. My take on him is - his strengths are building characters and adding humour and keeping the pace of the plot moving and his weaknesses are he can fall in love with his dialogue a bit too much, and he isn't great at writing action scenes. Since we focus on one character and not a team we get to avoid the "snappy team patter" that can drive me crazy reading a Bendis book and since this is a character he obviously cares a lot about we get a lot of great character moments.

I actually had read almost no Miles Morales comics but I loved the animated movie that came out and it was fun to see the differences between the movie and the comic. I think the movie improved upon how Miles got bit by the spider AND his relationship between him and his uncle. The comic had Uncle Aaron be a much bigger a-hole to Miles and ended up blackmailing Miles when he discovered his identity.

I am not going into a summary of all the stories (there are about 50 issues) but the highlight was the mini-series when the 616 Spider-man (the one we know) traveled through a dimension to team up with Miles Morales (reminding me a bit of the movie Into the Spider-Verse). I also loved how Bendis wrote Nick Fury (the Ultimate universe's Nick Fury - who is closer the MCU movie version) and how Fury was on top of the emergence of Miles as the new Spider-man. Also the first issues flew by in reading because it was fun to see Miles grow into his role of Spider-man. I also loved him interacting with Cloak and Dagger (who are much better in the Ultimate universe than the 616 universe) and Spider-Woman (aka Black Widow aka female Peter Parker clone). Overall - a lot of fun and enjoyment.

But I also have to nit pick - sorry - I can't help it. Villain-wise - Miles never gets his own villain and the fights he has don't really show any cleverness. In the sense that he either beats them easy or he uses his venom sting to end the fight. Some of the fun of the very first Spider-man stories was seeing Peter defeated - go back and regroup and come up with a new strategy and then defeat the villain. You know - use his brain and think of a clever way to beat an enemy. But for Miles it is recycled Spider-man villains and venom sting. I think that is because Bendis loves the character moments more than the action scenes. Action scenes are just a way to spark another character moment for him.

Also - I really hated the death of a main person in Miles' life. It has been done over and over again when a writer is lazy and needs his character to go through a crisis to kill off a close friend/family and it happens here. Not only is the death a been there done that it just isn't an interesting death. Cops are firing at the villain and a stray one kills the person. SIDE NOTE: the cops in this universe are dirt stupid. Scene after scene - they rush to the fight - they fire bullets that they know won't stop the villain but almost kill Spider-man and then when the villain flees or is stopped they draw their guns on Spider-man. This felt like it happened 20 times. It makes zero sense. Nobody trains the cops "hey, if it is super-villain a) stay away b) don't fire guns randomly c) stop trying to kill or arrest the obvious hero.

So the death happens and then we get Miles' "Spider-man no more" moment. That apparently lasted a year. And him coming out of retirement isn't even for that big of reason "hey we need your help - come along".

The other BIG irritation I had was Miles' girlfriend. Everyone is saying "don't tell her you are Spider-man" (even the reader is yelling it) and he does and stupidity ensues. I don't want to spoil it but...the odds of his girlfriend being involved with that group are zero...unless the writer needed it. Those are the stories near the end that fell flat to me.

Also - the fact there were big event tie-ins we only see a bit of is ALWAYS an irritation in omnibus collections from the 90's onward.

But overall - as I said - loved this collection. Not sure if I will get the 2nd omnibus but I am very happy I got this one.

Amazing how this is in some ways a love letter to everything great about Spider-Man, but also a very funky and fresh new start of some of Marvels most well known and beloved character, Miles Morales is Spider-Man and this is one of the best spider runs i have ever read. So good, so much fun and so much heart. I am head over heels right now, and cant wait to read that second omnibus, i just simply want more !

Sara Pichelli i David Marquez odvádí skvělou práci a barvy Justina Ponsora dělají dobré jméno modernímu mainstreamu. Paradoxně mě naštval muj oblíbený crossover Spider-men, kde má Bendis bordel v souvislostech.

Bendis is a controversial figure in the comics community, but Miles remains one of his strongest creations. Integrating him into the mainline Marvel Universe was an interesting move that doesn’t completely payoff. Nor do the multiple dropped or rushed plot lines in this collection (which I read in singles and not this omnibus collection). But the characters remain engaging and the artists here are all some of my favourites. So the ride is still satisfying.

This is probably a good (if pricey) starting point for those curious about Miles after the Spider-Verse film

I wanted to read this since the Spider Verse movie is doing so well and I only kind of, sorta know about Miles Morales. Well, now I love this little web slinger. No one loves the original recipe Spider Man more than me, but let's be honest he's been around forever and there's only so many times you can watch Uncle Ben die. I loved the new direction and stories they told with this, and I'm generally a huge fan of all the extended universe Spider characters. Miles might be a new fave though

I knew that this must be good, both because Miles is maybe the most popular new Marvel character in the last twenty years, and he was incredible in Into the Spider-Verse. I still wasn't prepared for just how great these stories are and how unique Miles is. He fits the tone of Spider-Man, but is definitely his own character, with his own issues, handling things his own way. And, you know, he's gotta venom blast. Pretty cool.

This is Bendis Spider-Man. It doesn’t need a review. Read it. Read all of it. If you can read all 18 years of work, then do it.
This is the second Miles Morales omnibus and the finishing stretch of Bendis’ time on Spidey. It doesn’t get any better than Bendis Spidey (Chip Zdarsky gets close though)

Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus. Collecting the whole of Miles Morales first run as Spider-Man.

This story takes place in the Ultimate Marvel universe, not the main universe. I have a soft spot for this universe as it was issues of The Ultimates, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Ultimate X-Men that got me into comics.

I had previously read part of this story as a normal graphic novel, so it was great to read the whole origin of the character and his early adventures. If you are a fan of the character from the Into the Spider-Verse film or the Miles Morales video game, I highly recommend this.

Story: Miles origin story and the passing of the mantle from Peter Parker’s Spider-Man. This means we get to see him interact with characters like Aunt May, MJ and Gwen Stacy and their reaction to a new Spider-Man. He also has his own supporting characters including his best friend Ganke, plus complex relationships with his family.

We get a great mix of coming of age, superhero action, epic team ups and overcoming the odds. It’s wholesome but also packs some emotional punches along the way.

Over the course of this omnibus Miles story does intersect with big events in the Ultimate universe. This includes the Hydra fuelled Divided We Fall/United We Stand - a crossover with The Ultimates. I feel we got enough of a sense of what was happening in the main crossover, whilst seeing it from Miles perspective and how it impacted his story. The Cataclysm tie in however wasn’t as strong, but I think that’s due to needing to read the main event. In Spider-Man’s issues a lot is left unanswered.

Talking of crossovers, this partly acts as a lead in towards the big Secret Wars event. But don’t let put you off, as it’s not a big aspect of the story.

The artwork throughout the series is fantastic! Some of the best I have seen in modern comics. A very realistic and cinematic approach. Great at conveying the emotional and drama moments, but also the epic superhero action. A highlight being the character and suit design for the new Spider-Man.

Overall a fantastic introduction to the new Spider-Man. He is definitely a contender to be one of my favourite Marvel characters. I’ve actually read more of Miles as Spider-Man than I have Peter!

Amazing read! Read this straight after finishing ultimate spiderman omnibus 5 and it was amazing. Some great heartwarming moments and stories. I love that they didn’t just ignore the characters from the original run and they used them in such a impactful way in miles growth as a character.

It gets a bit dodgy at times with it getting confusing with all the big events at the time in the ultimate universe which i personally was not caught up on, but i felt it did a good enough job and putting it in well with the stories.

My biggest complaint and i’m sure i’m not alone with this is peter parker’s abrupt and unexplained return to life. It felt like it was counter intuitive to what the run had been building too and it ruined the impact that was the death of spiderman.

Overall 4/5, very strong book and i’m excited to read the 2nd omnibus.

I really enjoyed this version of Spider-Man. Miles is such a pure, fun, and relatable hero that its hard not to root for him. I think he's become my generations Spider-Man for these reasons (and the films of course) but its such a breath of fresh air and was an exciting read all though. Something I also loved were those two page spreads which were unique in how it moved the story and brought movement to the page. The only bad thing about the book is the two or three tie-ins Miles was forced in that break up parts of his story, like its cool he's actually in them and plays important roles in these events but it sucks cause one second he's in school and the next second he's fighting Nazis with Captain America as President. It ends on a cliff hanger for Secret Wars which I've heard is amazing, also coming of reading some Fantastic Four and the main characters of that event being Reed and Doom I'm hyped to read it eventually.

Miles morales has arrived and he is here to stay
The first ark is a brilliant origin story, up there with the best.
Compelling family dynamics and interwoven with Legacy dilemmas.
The war of Vernon issues are flat out amazing this needs to be in a film right now.
Wish it had the missing issue of catalyst would of made it more rounded and less like a tie in, could of finished the omnibus one story arc earlier.
Incredibly quick read when the comic is good it's straight fire.

Spider-Man Miles Morales Omnibus is the second Omnibus by Brian Michael Bendis. After certain events, Miles is transported to the 616 universe, which is the main Marvel Universe. So we drop the Ultimate tag line and he's just Spider-Man.

Now not to confuse you because if you're interested in this Omnibus it is reissued as Volume 2 of Miles Morales but this is really almost a standalone title anyway. It's a rebranding and almost feels like don't need volume 1 or Ultimate Spider-Man Miles to understand what's happening here outside of a few references.

Miles wakes up and he's Spider-Man. In 616 it had almost a soft reboot and he's now the other Spider-Man outside of Peter being the more adult Spider-Man at the same time. And on top of that his mom is back! Big spoiler if haven't read the original but it's a reset anyway and takes away the emotional damage Miles went through, yet he still kind of knows what happened? But his uncle still is dead from the events and...

Listen it's confusing. I'm not sure why the fuck the reboot but it happened, so we move on. Is it good is the big question.

It's okay. To be honest these adventures aren't nearly as fun as I had hoped. It starts off fun enough with Miles fighting against a huge demon entity, then being friendly neighborhood adventures. Soon enough he's dealing with being spied on by Jessica Jones because his mother and grandmother thinks something is up and his grandmother hires her to find out what is up. Miles ranges from school life with Ganke and now Goldballs cause he becomes a roommate for Miles and Ganke. We try to slightly deal with racism but it's pretty badly done. And Miles is sadly brought into the Civil War 2 storyline that doesn't do him any favors.

Then we get the worst arc, which is Miles dealing with Spier-man peter parker team up. And this is just a very meh mini event compared to the first one. This is Spider-Men 2, and it's pretty bad especially the second half. I was really disappointed in this one and wondered what the fuck happened?

Then the last arc gets better, with Bombshell being a big part and the very last issue actually is touching and heartwarming. Miles has to deal with a disease that is trying to kill him which reflects what happened to Brian Michael Bendis a few months prior. Almost died of a bacterial infection that nearly killed him. So it worked well here to relate to.

But nice art aside, this is just a okay volume. Some decent adventures but overall this was a much weaker volume than the first. Miles ultimate adventures were SO much more fun and exciting and this one just failed to live up to it. It's decent but that's about as far as I can go. Middle of the road.

A 2.5 out of 5.

Miles Morales has been around for a while now, but aside from the Into the Spider-Verse movie (which I loved), and his brief cameo in the PS4 Spider-Man video game (which I also loved), I haven't had very much exposure to him. I love what I've seen, and I get his whole deal, but I've been spending most of my comic reading time one older volumes. Anyway, this is a long winded way of saying that this is my first time reading about his adventures, and, wow, holy wow, is it good.

Miles is an amazing character who really feels like a modern teenager. There's a lot of early Peter Parker-ness in him, but not so much that he comes off feeling derivative.

The writing and art is perfect. This volume represents the culmination of Bendis' nearly 2 decade run with Spider-Man, but I never felt out of my depth regarding the story and the featured players. The storytelling was clean and clear the entire way through, and ended with a very emotional farewell.

So, yes, this is the end of this particular iteration, but all it made me want to do is pick up previous volumes just so I can spend more time with these characters.

Minus two stars for the terrible Spider-Men II mini series and some of the other filler that is contained in this omnibus. The core Spider-Man issues Bendis writes hint at a larger narrative however his departure makes one wonder if any of these threads will continue.

Absolutely loved this run. Miles is a wonderfully innocent and brave character whose crazy problems throughout this long series have a way of just being grounded and relatable... Even though we have invasions of space gods, clones, angry Osborn lizards and massive comic book crossovers.

There is real heart to be found within these pages, Bendis really did create yet another top tier character for Marvel that we can all love, root for and follow through thick and thin. He may not torture Miles as much as did Matt Murdock, but he doesn't hold back painting this tale with the "always-f*ck-with-your-protagonist" brush.

What I like most, which is what I often like most about these kinds of books, is that hero-villain conflict was the least important part of this story. There are so many plots and subplots weaving together that the story is really just there to service the wonderfully rich characters. Some parts definitely felt a little disjointed with clear ties to bigger crossover event stories at the time, but I didn't feel removed from the main plot for any prolonged period of time and it didn't detract from the overall book. There are even some genuine character moments in the crossover issues that really hit strong emotional beats, especially those involving Spider Woman.

And speaking of which, the supporting cast are also given plenty of time to shine. A very important aspect to any good hero comic.
Ganke's unflinching loyalty that is common in teenage friendships, Miles' dad's complex world views, his uncle Aaron's predilection for crime, his girlfriend's secret family, the Bugle reporter investigating our new Spidey and even detective Maria Hill are all examples of the memorable writing contained in this omnibus.

If you like Spidey... You'll love this.

When Marvel first decided to kill off the Ultimate version of Peter Parker, I was really upset. Bendis was writing the best Spider-Man title I'd ever read. Thankfully, the book continued to be just as good with Miles Morales taking over. He's younger. When this starts he's only 13. His origin is similar to Pete's but with some different powers. The real difference here is his family. Miles's has strong parents and a terrific best friend in Ganke. The impetus for a lot of the first year though is hie Uncle Aaron who is also the Prowler. I really like how Bendis took a throw away character and turned him into this huge part of Miles's life. Bendis just dives right into the heart of Miles. You quickly grow to like him so freaking much.

The art on this is excellent as well, with Sara Pichelli and David Marquez doing the heavy lifting. They are both just terrific. This collects all of Bendis's Miles comics in the Ultimate universe, so some of the events and minis can feel a bit disjointed and Secret Wars clearly comes in at the end and bats aside everything Bendis was doing. It's still a terrific read the second go around though and if you've ever been curious about Miles Morales, it's all right here.

This is the entirety of Miles Morales' Ultimate Universe adventures in one handy volume, which is a pretty cool collection.

It starts out a bit slow, but then Bendis was introducing a whole set of characters. It really hits its stride with the third stv, focused on Venom. From there to Spider-Man No More to the end of the first run through to Cataclysm and the second series, the comic has all of energy, excitement, and feeling that anything could happen from Bendis' early Spider-Man run, albeit with an exciting new character.

Why did Bendis bring Peter Parker back in the second comic? It always felt like a bit of a misstep, especially with the lack of full explanation, but still made for some pretty page turning comic.

Unfortunately the ending got hurried along due to the downfall of the Ultimate Universe and except for Miles' close friends, you know everyone is going to be erased from existence. Sad! But a good comic.

A collection of the origin and beginnings of Miles Morales as Spider-Man. A very lengthy comic, but a great one none the less. This was a great read and was nothing short of wonderful. Miles is a great character in his own right, and we get to see his struggle of trying to live up to the hero known as Spider-Man. We get to watch as a young man fights to carve his own identity from that of a legend, and the problems that come with being a superhero.

Really can't recommend this collection enough for fans of Spider-Man, fans of comics, or for those who like Miles already but want to learn more about his origins in the comics.

A well-done omnibus and one that others should strive to recreate when doing their own!

This was a great book. It's hard to compare it to the original Ultimate Spider-Man- I mean both are good. In some cases, I found Miles Morales to be much better. I think this book focuses a lot on the struggle of acceptance (by peers, by his family etc) but it's also interesting to see how much easier it was for Miles to be Spider-Man BECAUSE of the path left by Peter

The supporting characters are all great. I found the girlfriend stuffed a bit..rushed. and strange/random.

The best part about this book has to be the art- the lay-outs, the cinematic fight scenes- Sara and Messina's art REALLY shines through

I freaking LOVE this book! I love Miles Morales! I love Ganke! I love Spider-Man! I love the Ultimate universe and I’m sad it’s gone.

This is definitively where one should start if you’re wanting to begin reading Spider-Man (particularly if you aren’t fussed about whether you’re reading Miles or Peter)

The dust jacket has a very fitting quote from Screenrant.com “the poster child for modern day Spider-Man stories”

Now if we can please just get an omnibus for the Saladin Ahmed Spider-Man run. I need more big Miles marathons in my life.

Miles morales the ultimate spider man is a great book and very fun to read. The book is pretty long and took me a bit longer to read than I thought it would. Even though is is very long it is well worth it and is very fun to read and overall is one of my favorite books. I would rate this book a 9.5/10 because it is very good and a fun read is is not a 10/10 becase the book is very long and hard to carry (I have the Paper Version). I would recommend this book the Spider-Man fans and people who want a fun long book to read.
