Paranormal Prison

Conveniently Convicted

Rate this book
Nightmare Penitentiary is no joke. The worst of the worst in the paranormal world end up at NP, and I just got sentenced there.

For others, this might be cause for freaking the hell out. But for me, it's a fucking relief.

You see, I've been sold off to the big bad asshole, Alpha Bowen - thanks mom and dad! But if they think I'm going to go quietly, or at all, they haven't been paying attention to how I roll.

Nightmare Penitentiary is the perfect place to escape, and I'm ready. If only people would stop trying to break me out. Seriously, it's annoying.

I'm ready to relax and serve my sentence, but then I meet the prison guard, Rook. I can't seem to escape his heated stares, the head wobbles, or the dimples. Sweet pop rocks, the dimples!

You're not supposed to meet the male of your dreams in prison, but tell that to fate. Too bad I'm not as out of reach from the troubles hunting me down as I thought... and now, there's nowhere to run because, like, I got myself imprisoned. FML.

Ivy Asher is addicted to chai, swearing, and laughing a lot (but not in a creepy, laughing alone kind of way). She loves the snow, books, and her family of two humans, and three fur-babies. She has worlds and characters just floating around in her head, and she's lucky enough to be surrounded by amazing people who support that kind of crazy.

MAJOR SPOILERS

This was just so wrong!!

My first problem was inmate-prison guard romance. It is abusive, controlling and a lot of it is non consensual. There is a reason that it is illegal. The guard is always in a position of power and the inmate has no good choices. And this is a real problem in female prisons around the world.

But I was willing to move past it - it is supposed to be fiction after all. And there were parts that I actually liked about the book.

This brings me to my second problem - the heroine. In the first half of the book, her character was portrayed to be smart and strong - a woman with a plan when dealt with shitty cards. And then it goes completely downhill!

She completely breaks! I understand that the prison was hard, but shouldn't she have thought about it before getting sent to the prison? She gets abused, and I did feel sympathy, but I expected her to deal with that in a better way - not have a pity party and wait to be saved by a white knight! The worst part was when she panics about being released from jail after making a plan to leave the jail and then promptly gets rescued by her so called enemy!

And then there is the hero - final nail in the coffin! Except for great sex, he has no redeeming qualities. Hell, he has all the qualities of self centered b**tard. And I don't say this lightly.

He begins by making a plan to bring down the heroine's mother and screwing the heroine all the way while sticking it to her mother. Then, he has sex with the heroine in jail where he is conveniently her prison guard. Next, after amazing night of sex, he leaves her in the solitary for almost week without food or ways to have a shower. Side note- the heroine almost dies during that time. After that, he again has sex with a hurt inmate where consent is dubious at best. Then he gets someone to kidnap her for which she again gets in trouble. Next he gets her multiple luxurious items for his pride (I think) that gets her beaten to an inch of her life, while he just stands there.

This was a big deal because there was no reason for him NOT to interfere. Becuase of him the heroine was getting released the next day and as is revealed a couple of chapters later, he has no reason to keep or want this job! So why did he allow the love of his life (as he grandly announces next day) to be beaten so badly?

All this is not including the threats, insults, blackmail and general douchebaggery. And the heroine not only forgives him but is completely in love with him!!!!

I think I would have liked the book better if Rook hadn't been Alpha Bowen. And if the heroine had to actually work for her happy ending instaed of just figuring out that she had awesome chemistry with Alpha Bowen and forgetting all about his vicious reputation and miraculously having her problems solved!

If you look at it, the whole book is pointless. If the heroine had just met Rook before taking such drastic measures, they would have both gotten what they wanted. And if she did take such drastic measures, she should stick with it. This was just a convenient and lazy ending on part of the authors.

In conclusion, I hated it.

Pop Rocks, 90's Music, a Head-Bobbling Cockatrice & Pretty Rocks - An MF PNR Paranormal Prison Romance with Hilarious Undertones. Yes, please. ✅✅✅

I'll preface this review by saying, it's really hard for me to read while writing, which means it takes the right book to snag my focus and keep it. Otherwise, my characters yank me right back to my computer.

Well, Conveniently Convicted sunk it's cocky claws into me and demanded I pay attention to the shiny new story on my iPad. I laughed out loud so many times while reading about this feisty cockatrice and her stint at Nightmare Penitentiary. It's brilliant and so well done. I loved the uniqueness of the fantasy characters involved and the tension between Sinclair and her prison guard, Rook. It was an incredible standalone story.

My only feedback: I'd really like these authors to write a book about Zen (please) as I want to know more about her lotus flower (and that's not a pun).

Honestly, I can't recommend this book enough. If you all are looking for a fun read with excellent world-building, steamy scenes, and hilarious cock...atrice moments, pick this one up today!

After reading the blurb this reminded me of harley lol and well I do love a badass in a prison yard. This was a fun story with medium steam and lots of drama

Sinclair is a shifter a cockatrices and she has a plan get tossed into paranormal prison since her mother and father have sold her out to be mated to this guy who is bad news... from the rumors she heard, so she makes sure she heads to that high alert prison and she does. Making friends everywhere she goes lol But shes on high alert since Alpha Bowln keeps sending ppls to help her escape she always turns them away.  Now Prison guard Rook has her tail dancing her colors brighten and for some odd reason she feels he is working for the guy who wants her. So what does she do Hit him with a trey lol perfect start to a relationship 🤣🤣🤣

These two are sexual tension high and are same type of shifters, now Sinclair needs to stay in jail longer so she makes sure she does with Making prison weapons, flirting with Guard Rook (H), acting crazy well crazier I laughed.. until things got alittle darkish.. and my heart broke for Sinclair when she thought she couldnt trust Rook during a harsh moment since he was a guard.

BOYYYYY talk about that twist... did not see coming...like really didnt see it. But was glad Sinclar gave Rook a peace of her mind.

No ow/om drama , no cheating, drama, secondary chara, sexy times, no virgins

Recommend- maybe

This was a fun, sexy read.

Were there issues in the plot and logic behind the heroines grand plan? Oh, absolutely. Did the hero do some rather questionable things as well? FOR SURE.

But the thing is, somehow, their chemistry and relationship just worked for me.

I do wish Sinclair would have made Rook sweat it out more toward the end. Because his explanation for his actions toward her after meeting her left much to be desired. Personally, I think this book could have been at least another 50ish pages longer. That way the ending could be better fleshed out. But alas nothing and no one is perfect so I'll accept this for what it is, an entertaining piece to the pass the time.

A very good story and good plot, but felt like it was rushed and could have been more.

Brief rundown of the plot: Sinclair is a cockatrice, and she is in prison. she wanted to get into prison because her asshole parents sold her off to an alpha, who rumours circulate as being a very bad man. she wants to stay in Nightmare Penitentiary to avoid that fate.

One thing I loved about this book, is Sinclair. She is a funny, sassy, always talking character who is so interesting to listen to. Although some of the sexual jokes were a bit cringey, I liked her as a mc. The love interest, Rook, is interesting as well and the two create a good pair. There was enough tension at the start, when when they suddenly 'fell in love', I felt like that was a bit of a jump and not what I was expecting.

WHY ONLY THREE STARS: This book felt just... rushed. It would have been an amazing start to a series, but instead we have a great around 70% of the book, and the last 30% felt too unrealistic and rushed and too quick. Reading through Sinclair's eyes, it was entirely unrealistic for her just to accept the plot twist, and just to be okay with it straightaway. Plus, the last bit just lacked substance, and the epilogue was just like, ALREADY?????

But it was still a good story, shame it couldn't have been longer/better progressed.

→3.5 stars

Note: it doesn't say anywhere in the blurb but if you are thinking to read this book it does contain explicit scenes best for ages 18 and over.

I don’t know how to rate this.

I didn’t hate it and there were even some bits that I liked and found funny. But then it would just get ridiculous. And the sex scenes, especially the first one, were just silly (IMO).

3.5 stars. I don't know what it is, but I just love paranormal prison / prison planet stories. This one was interesting with the fmc trying to stay in rather than escape. Sinclair's 'Harley Quinn' persona was cute and funny in the beginning but bordered on obnoxious as it went on. Cockatrice shifters were new to me too... and a little strange. Overall, a pretty enjoyable pnr read.

This book was brilliant and an excellent addition to the Parnormal Prison series. My favorite part was the heroine who was beyond fun, funky and outrageous. This is not a girl who is afraid to speak her mind. To escape an arranged marriage-set up by her parents-she hatches a plan to get herself thrown in prison. The longer the sentence the better. She was such a fun character to follow and her obsession with color and Pop Rocks only made me like her more. She runs smiling into prison riots and can/will take on any foe, especially one that brings out the chilling shifter inside of her. My only complaint was I guessed where the story was going . The banter between the MCs was hilarious but when Sinclair got into a verbal sparring match with a fairy I was almost in tears. Really great fun and cute read, definitely recommend.

1) I couldn't stop picturing a Cockatrice as a giant Cockroach so that kind of ruined the book for me. ( I don't care how sexy their human forms were, I couldn't help but cringe and laugh when I imagined them as shifter cockroaches). My bad.

2) The fmc was stupid. And annoying. And s thousand other things that frustrated the hell out of me. Plus, she gave the hero hell for the first mistake he made but forgave him so easily when he made the BIGGEST mistake in the whole story!! Give me a break😒

I loved this. I loved the characters, their abilities and everything. The main character was so funny and the story line kept me interested. So many parts to mention so all I'll say is enjoy. Love the fact that they shifted into half bird half lizard and the other creatures weren't your usual creatures.

Spoilers ahead

Sinclair is a shifter cocatrice who in an attempt to escape an arranged mating decides to go to prison. She gets a year long sentence and finally she's transferred to Nightmare Penitentiary where she hopes the Alpha her parents betrothed her too won't be able to break her out of prison. Meeting her new friend Zen and setting up a thriving business helps Sinclair's sentence to pass with ease, but her mother refuses to give up and it seems neither does the Alpha. Sexy Cocatrice prison guard Rook is another complication as she starts falling for him, unfortunately Sinclair has just been paroled.

*******
The surprising thing for me is that I've read these authors individual offerings and absolutely loved them but when they pair up it just hasn't worked out for me at all.me
I saw the Rook/Bowen thing coming a mile away
Sinclair started off as fun and hilarious but the humor soon turned immature, annoying and ridiculous
Rook wasn't as Alpha as I'd like, yes he was playing a role but still I felt better could be done from him especially at the beat down scene
The plot was interesting and unique which is one of the things I love about these authors but this one unfortunately didn't work for me

I had a smile on my face for literally this entire book. Like a stupid grin. The whole time. This is a really fun, feel-good book. I love when Ivy and Raven write together, I think the stories they come up with are really special. I did find this one to be a bit predictable, but it didn’t bother me at all or lose any points on the story. I loved Sinclair and Rook and the whole direction of the story.

The next time I read this book, I’ll enjoy it a lot more and just go along for the ride. This one made me a little angry and annoyed with arranged marriage/slavery, shitty parents and bully guards. It’s more along the lines of the Misfit series, except the FMC decides to do something about it by getting herself locked up in prison.

Confession time. With the authors I really like, I don’t read the blurb, just see the shiny new cover and click. Until 30% in I didn’t realise it wasn’t reverse harem. Had the potential to but in the end glad it was monogamous. The Warden was a knob.

Sinclair is mouthy, colourful and whole lot of fun. She’s also hard to break down and quick to get back up. Her pranks were entertaining and the no filter attitude helped lighten her situation.

The one thing that I didn’t like about this story was the sex. It annoys me when the characters don’t use protection because they have some birth control spell going. This one goes one step further by leaving jizz for days. Nope. Just nope.

I liked Rook and how their relationship plays out. Didn’t see the plot twist coming. Didn’t like the mother or the rest of the guards. Curious about Zen. Nicely balanced and chaotic.

Another hit!!!

After this author duo teamed up for April’s Fools, I knew the powerhouse penners would wrap another tale with wit and romance.

The Nightmare Penitentiary was introduced in another story (same universe, different author) and while we see a couple of the same faces as Sinclair enjoys her time behind bars, it is not required reading in order to understand and love this novel.

Here, we get a bucket load of humor, a touch of angst and a flood of heat as two stubborn souls find themselves in the most unlikeliest of places. It’s charming, funny and downright cute. 5 stars!

First person, single POV, stand-alone PNR, M/F
Rating - mature

Pros:
- very funny
- scenes that mesh with the other prison book flow exactly.
- I’m in love with Sinclair.
- Rook, Rook, Rook.... sigh
- Great narrative flow.

Cons:
- One question early one answers the entire book.

*** 3.5 STARS ***

This was a pretty fun book and I really laughed at the heroine's inner thoughts. It was a quick and easy read with some great steamy scenes and some hilarious situations. I didn't enjoy the way both main characters reacted in some situations though, it didn't make sense following their personalities. Also, the book had so much potential but it was wrapped too easily and with some underwhelming scenes, which was a shame as it could have been way better!

I don't know why this has an MPG reverse harem, it is definitely not, it is an MF romance. Overall it was a good read which entertained me for a few hours and made me laugh.

I have mixed feelings about this book, I went blind to it and the beginning was good, you have this girl who gets thrown to jail to prevent her parents from selling her as a bride to stick it to the man sort of and gets the best of her situation. But then you start to realize that in reality she was just scared and angry and her best solution was to disappear without any consequences and jail was her ticket. It's kind of sad to see that and her relationship with Rook was really cute at the beginning I was really falling for the love and then the sex games began... what the hell was that!? Seriously people, when I want to get laid I don't make my man do stupid things to prove he can bring me satisfaction, now that I said that out loud it kind of makes sense to prove him before going to bed but for crying out loud just not what she did. That was just beyond weird.

Also, that ending felt lazy like they were tired of the story (as we were) but needed to end it so they just scramble to put pieces together to make it 'ok'.

Still, I'm intrigued by these authors so I'll be looking for their other works.

Humor

The beginning of the book starts off great. I like when both of these authors get together and write. I was into this book and taking it in stride that the main character was pretty much like Harley Quinn, only less psycho. Then when her and Rook got together I couldn't help but go WTH. The book took this odd childish like turn. It was funny at parts but then downright too childish. I felt that Sin was a bit too immature to understand why Rook did what he had to to do. The ending was great and I loved that her Mat got what was coming to her. Also you can guess pretty early on what the little twist is at the end.

There's no legal escape, so she turns to a life of crime with a smile upon her face, Nightmare penitentiary her destination. Safe at last!

She belongs to him, and come what may he will have her! there is no other acceptable outcome!

This book had me grinning and chuckling away like no other.

Nothing tickles me as much as comedy genius moments. Phrases such as "Tiny dick syndrome fairy" had my face aching.

Sinclair is the kind of character that will either irritate the hell out of you with her verbal diarrhoea, or have you wishing she was your best mate. It was the latter for me her enthusiasm, unique quirky traits and all over amazing personality bedazzled my mind.

Rook is the guard who goes more than the extra mile. He's every inmates sordid fantasy as he struts his stuff and helps to keep order.

They are each others forbidden fruit and I think that makes their attraction all the more delicious to watch.

I've craved a prison series for quite a while, and this more than hits the mark.

Raven and Ivy are a fantastic duo and I for one hope they write more books together!

So funny

Sinclair is an interesting name for a girl and she is extremely interesting with a seriously positive outlook and her animal side is so cool. I have never read a story about a cockatrice shifter.

Seeing her enjoy prison is befuddled and hard to believe but once you understand what she is hiding from, it all makes sense. Her mat and pat as she calls her parents. Neither shows her love and they plan on giving her to a horrible cockatrice male, according to what she hears anyways.

I wish there was more information about Zen though. She is still very mysterious but she befriended Sinclair despite her eccentricities. I also would have liked some future looks at how everything works out but this was a great standalone book. I recommend it for anyone looking for some comedic release.

Conveniently Convicted was hilarious and steamy and I was engrossed from start to finish. The story was well written with great details and excellent world building. The main characters were cockatrices which was actually new to me so it was interesting reading about these mystical creatures.
Sinclair was fun and witty and a bit over the top yet she had me laughing throughout this story and Rook will have you swooning with every scene he's in. You will love these two characters and will be rooting for them throughout the story. This novel was interesting and the twist will shock you but you will enjoy every moment of it. I would highly recommend this novel to all lovers of paranormal shifter romance.

I read this as part of a buddy read and boy am I glad I did. I had someone to share this amazing rollercoaster of a ride book with.

I absolutely adored this book. Take a kick arse, potty mouth, colour loving cockatrice, stick her in a supernatural prison (at her request mind you) and throw in pop rocks, meatloaf (the food not the singer) and a hot prison guard and you have the perfect recipe for a funny, steamy, brilliant story.

I encourage you to read this book, read it with a friend and enjoy the ride. You’ll root for the main character, get hot under the collar and curse the baddies!!

The only thing I am disappointed with is there is no follow up….. I need a Sinclair follow up. I want to know, no scrap that, I NEED to know what happens next and how she navigates the next chapters of her life.
