In a political landscape that instils abject horror in most of us, we have been delivered one shining ray of hope - going by the name of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. At age 29 she became the youngest woman ever to serve in the United States Congress, and she shows no signs of stopping yet.
Covering everything from democracy to climate change to feminism, this pocket book of her most insightful, important and brilliant quotes will bring you courage and faith that our future could be in very good hands yet.
"I'm used to being on my feet 18 hours a day. I'm used to receiving a lot of heat. I'm used to people trying to make me feel bad. They call it 'working class' for a reason, because you are working non-stop."
"If they want to make an example out of me, I will gladly be one. Hopefully, we can be an example of dedication, courage and persistence under fire. I also hope to be an example of not tolerating nonsense, too."
"If I was a rational person, I would have dropped out of this race a long time ago."
I have immense respect for AOC. This is the third Pocket of Wisdom book I have read (also read Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Michelle Obamam), and this one just didn't pack the punch that the other two did. AOC has so many amazing quotes that weren't included, such as (when speaking about Representative Yoho and her decision to speak about his remarks to the House - "I am here because I have to show my parents that I am their daughter... and that they did not raise me to accept abuse from men.") That type of quote was what I was hoping for in this collection, but instead it was quotes regarding running for office and her thoughts on policy... which don't get me wrong, the quotes included were good ones... they just weren't the powerful ones AOC is known for.
