Following the wolf on bear brawl at the graduation ceremony which was instigated by the berserker, Haley Parker, the Gladwells have been removed from the Academy and Dean Belhollow is now in charge. Remi is reeling from the shocking revelation that her twin not only killed Belhollow’s son, but that the Gladwells hired Daniel Helms to erase Belhollow’s memories. Most shocking of all is the revelation that the Board of Gladwell Academy is an extension of the Tooth and Claw Society who fund the Academy in return for the culled students. Belhollow urges Remi to keep schtum about what she has learned to the other students, including Laith, for fear of riots from students over the departure of the Gladwells. Remi reluctantly agrees.

Remi’s relationship with Laith suffers a setback when he departs to India for a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit a shifter monastery that specialises in meditation. Remi feels betrayed that he has chosen to go at a time when she needs him at the Academy. While the rest of the students leave for the summer break, Remi is obliged to stay behind to work on her scent-sight gift to find new shifters.

To her annoyance, she finds Winter Davenport monopolising her room one evening in an attempt to stay off the faculty’s radar. For some reason Winter doesn’t want to go home for the summer. Fortunately, Hickoree is also staying at the Academy for the summer break as she needs to catch up on the work she missed due to her late internship. Remi decides to enlist their help in researching the four gifts in the hopes of understanding her powers better. Suddenly Rahm makes a menacing appearance forcing Remi to come clean about her twin to Winter and Hickoree as well as her recent discovery under the Academy.

“So, let me see if I’m understanding this correctly,” Hickoree said, pacing with her index fingers jammed against her temples. You, of all people expect us to believe that underneath this Academy is a secret tunnel that leads to an enormous shifter mausoleum, and the way to get to the shifter mausoleum is by taking a ride in this broom closet, and when you get there, you’re going to find the information we’ve spent three days searching thousands of books for with zero luck.. by sniffing a decomposing corpse instead? Do I
have that right?”

“Don’t forget the evil twin.” Winter added.

The trio’s venture into the mausoleum leads to a devastating discovery that will forever alter their lives at the Academy...

Hell Week is the third compelling instalment of the Academy of Shifters series. The author really stepped up her game in this tense, edge of your seat instalment. After the jaw dropping revelations of the previous book, it was hard to ascertain who to trust. I agonised over the reliability of one character in particular, as the departure of the genuinely likeable Gladwells from the Academy had already been one loss too many. The devastating discovery in the mausoleum was particularly heartbreaking and I struggled to read ahead through my tears. It’s a testament to the authors characterisation skills that she has managed to bring these characters to life in such a short time.

The character building has been truly outstanding. Each character complementing the other like a fine wine does a meal. I loved that Remi, Winter and Hickoree were put together over the summer break. My instincts about Winter were right and judging by her reluctance to go home, one can only imagine the horrors she’s gone through with her parents. Hickoree is the glue that holds the gang together and a source of strength for Remi. The introduction of Diego Machado was interesting. Just who are the Royal Order of the Fur and Fang? The scenes with Rahm in the mausoleum, positively crackled with tension and continues to add to the mystery of what actually happened to him and how he’s able appear to Remi.

The author has deftly managed to push everyone of my reading buttons with this book. Rarely does a book cause such a plethora of emotions. I laughed, I cried and spent the rest of the book fearing the worst. By the end I felt like I’d been on an emotional rollercoaster. She’s become my favourite new discovery of 2019 for sure.

Highly recommended to fans of urban fantasy, academy books, shifters, mysteries, lies, betrayal and secret societies etc

This book whizzed by. I was finished before even I realized I was at the end. Short, fast and cliffhangers. Audio book again for this one. I do like the narrator and she has done well.

The book again starts pretty much right after book 2. Remi is struggling with everything again with revelations about her brother. She's learning more and more about the academy secrets and life. Life is not the same anymore and it just gets more complicated when her secret is outed in the most public way. More questions, betrayals and intrigue. This is how she finds herself. She is confused and pretty much lashing out at Laith and just being moody, in general. I must say I was confused as well about how fast this ended and I was left with more frustrations and questions. Dean Mardone adds more complications and that was an interesting addition of a new character. I was not expecting that. Laithe, Victoria and some others were mostly missing from here. Winter, well...she is interesting we find out another tidbit new ability about her. I have not warmed up to her BUT, she has potential. Oh and there is another secret society....don't have much information about it.

Of course, the book ended at yet another cliffhanger AND ended abruptly for me. I am not sure where the next book leads and I do want to find out. They have me weirdly intrigued.

****I received an audiobook free. I volunteered to review the book****

The series is starting to get annoying. Issues in the books aren't really resolved. Dots aren't connected; problems are ignored/ not addressed. The characters are acting stupid. They aren't learning from previous trials. They aren't communicating. I'll read the next, but only because I need answers. If the next is just like this one, I won't finish the series.

This book starts where the last book left off with Remi find more questions than the answers she is searching for.
Her relationship with Laith is put to the ultimate test and things don’t quite work out how Remi wants them too.
Remi and her friends are still trying to find out about the Tooth & Claw Society but they are thwarted at every turn and don’t really find themselves any closer. She doesn’t know who to trust as people she thought were allies show another side and Remi doesn’t know what to make of them but I don’t want to say who and spoil it for you.
I love she is getting on with Winter even though Winters whining is so annoying at times you wish Remi would slap her 😂
Brittany Goodwin is perfect at narrating as usual and all her characters are distinguishable from the others.

Even though I came in late in this story....I caught where the story was going.
This specific book seemed to focus on furthering character development.
New revelations that Remi has a hard time dealing with along with developing friendships.
As for Remi and Laith's relationship....well there seems we will need to continue to the next book to see what happens next.
There are a few interesting points brought forth in the story and one is in regards to the Tooth and Claw society.
Overall this was another building block leading us into the next book.
I think the author made her points and has found that little hook to nudge is into coming back for more.
Clever writer!

That ending ...OMG!!! Yeah, I sort of considered that as a possible occurrence, but now....I just have to see where this leads. Episode 3 covers quite a bit of transformations in a variety of ways and not just the shifting. The four gifts are so very mysterious and really need to know more about the “unstoppable” factor and how that plays out. Love all the thought that went into all the nuances of this storyline.! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.

So, I did get some of the answers/clarification that I needed after the last book. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much in terms of action. But there was development for several characters here. Not just in regards to personality, but with controlling their powers as well. It was also nice to connect with Hickoree and Winter. There hasn’t been much focus on Remi’s pack in a while. Things are starting to heat up. It’s clear there will be more twists to come.

These books are getting better and better as they go on. Marisa has such a way of writing, it totally encapsulates you. These books are chapters and therefore are short, which is always the down side.... however as soon as you start listening.... you seriously cannot stop!! I love these books and I cannot wait for the next one to be available!!! Hurry up!!!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Book 3???

sorry, i have been binge reading all these books and i've lost count how many i've read. I don't know what number this book is, i think number 3? Anyways, i'm enjoying this series, as it is quite interesting. Unfortunate thing is, ending each book and starting a new book of this series to continue, i wish it was all in one so i could finish it at once rather than taking breaks.

well, this was my least favorite novel of the series... this was more like a short story than an actual novel. I get that it was supposed to be a novel in the span of a week, but many parts of the novel were stretched out. Remi's character is beginning to get annoying I'm not sure is its a projection of her brother but she's become a mess entirely.

That ending.....I need book 4!

This book was packed with so much. There was drama and romance, and heartache and forgiveness, mystery, death, secrets revealed, and best of all family. Well the family part isn't always positive. This book threw some definite kinks into the plot, both good and bad, but it fully cemented my need for book 4.

My review is based on the audiobook. Remi's journey continues in book 3 and like the previous books this is fast paced and hard to put down because I needed to know what happened next. some answers were revealed but like in any good series we were still left hanging - in a good way. The narrator did a wonderful job bringing the story and characters to life.

This book picks up where book two left off with Remi finding no answers to the questions. With her and her friends trying to find out about Tooth and Claw Society she does not know who to trust and finding out that life will never be the same anymore. The narrator does a wonderful job with this series.

Keeps getting better, and better!

This is a series of depth, and surprises, which I love!
The twists just keep coming.
If you enjoy really good fantasy stories, you will be well entertained with these.
The writing is extremely well done, the storyline riveting, and the characters unique and engaging.
Be sure to read them in order; just read them.
You will be glad you did!

DNF'ing for now. I hate the turn this book took making the brother evil. I plan to finish this series at some point as I am hoping that it turns out to not be true etc but I wanted a story about twins that wanted to find each other not whatever this is turning into. I have too many other books to read this year.

If the first two books were more slow paced, this one is crazy. I went from this one to the next in what seemed like a just a moment. Belhollow is now in charge of the Academy, Remi knows the truth about her brother and her relationship with Laith progresses... but a lot more happens and it's really good!

I received a free audio copy from the authors for an honest review.
