Aubrey Wilson can't make it home for her first Christmas since her father died. Her private equity firm just made a multi-billion dollar offer for a regional retail chain, and there are less than three months left to plan her lavish wedding to her perfect fiancé. Imagine her surprise when she yields to her mother's request to make the trip home, only to find her childhood sweetheart waiting to pick her up at the airport. The same childhood sweetheart that broke up with her twelve years before on prom night of their senior year of high school.
I liked this book overall, but there were some oddities that make it a 3-star for me. The writing style is odd and shifts; doesn't flow well at all. This made it difficult to follow when the story veers to the perspective of the moms. Kyle has a HUGE secret which is really drawn out until almost the very last page. I felt this went on far too long, and although I had guessed what it was, it was almost anti-climatic when the reader finds out. And the ending, although a HEA, was flat after all the circling around in the story. I liked how Aubrey resolves her relationship and other issues, it was satisfying and added to the thread of the story. Standalone, and a HEA (but I wanted a bit more)
The beginning opens with her getting ready to go back home for the holidays. Her father had died and this was the first Christmas for her and her mom without him. There were several things that were happening. She had been dumped by her high school sweetheart years before. She is now engaged to someone else. She is now questioning her life and her accomplishments and where she is headed. Will she get the answers to these questions? Will she find out that home is where she needs to be?
At first I didn't think I was going to enjoy this book. The beginning was a little difficult to lean back, and relax. It all had a reason & purpose. I did start to get annoyed when the whole town, and surrounding people seemed to know why she got dumped at her prom. Nary one person would clue her in. Everyone told her it was not "their story to tell", including the guy who broke up with her. I thought it was rather lame. What I liked about this story was it illustrated that time had to move on no matter what. It was okay to go with gut feelings, and it's okay to change our goals.
Cute story about a high power, successful financial guru who goes back to her hometown to share Christmas with her Mom since this was the first Christmas her Dad wasn’t alive to celebrate. In her hometown, Aubrey runs into her high school love. They both have issues to work through and Aubrey gets a chance to get off the NewYork rat race and realize what is important in life. Does that include the high stress job, her fiancé, or her high school boyfriend? Y This story had some good points that make you stop and take stock of what is important in life. Merry Christmas!
This was a really cute Christmas romance. Audrey and Kyle broke up at senior prom and 12 years later are bought together for Christmas. Their story was good but some of the characters' thoughts seemed disjointed, especially when the occured when that character wasn't present in the scene. I think I knew what the author was trying but these scenes didn't quite meld. Otherwise, an enjoyable romance.
While it was really fast-paced, the characters were intriguing and there was depth to the relationships between them. It was a good modern read revealing and working through struggles we all face. As well as showing that past relationships can become present ones but reminding us that we need to take care of the present before moving on.
Aubrey and Kyle are thrown together after being apart for 12 years. For three days before Christmas they run errands for their mothers. The author keeps hinting at something that broke them up all those years ago. It’s fairly easy to figure out what it was but we have to wait for the last few pages to know for sure. Enjoyed reading this book.
Trevor McCall is a New-To-Me author. I thoroughly enjoyed this heartwarming story of a father's love for his daughter and a mistake that changed the course of her life. While the Magic of Christmas helped to right the wrongs of the past and opened her heart to her future with her first love.
I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend this story. I’m glad I started my Christmas reading a little early and chose this one. At first I hesitated and thought it might not be a “clean” story because she was living with her fiancé but I decided to give it a few more pages. Really glad I did.
Aubrey comes home for Christmas and finds her childhood sweetheart again. He thinks their mama's are trying to get them together. She can't move on until she knows why he left her twelve years ago.
This was a cute, sweet Christmas story. Very hallmark. I was surprised when I got to the end and it said this was the authors first book! I then went and picked up another Christmas book he wrote after this one.
This story was enjoyable from beginning to end. In today’s world, our lives are filled with stress; when there is time to read a story, we want stressless! Thank you, Trevor McCall!
