Good storyline

Well I can definitely say I expected better. The storyline was good but I will say it doesn't add up to the blurb. What I was expecting and what I read did not match up. It's not a bad book but the blurb definitely needs alittle switching up. The I love yous came from out of nowhere and this story jumped time way more than I'd of liked. I'm going with 3 stars because again it's not bad but didnt meet expectations either. While the blurb makes you think all this happened behind the brothers back that was actually not the case and Bennett was told about the relationship almost from the beginning and way before the baby.

This was a DNF at 15% the guy is a loser who is definitely overcompensating for something. He has a one nighter right before the story starts, then schedules one each night for the next 3 night.I believe the second night, he runs into the heroine and rescues her from getting date raped after someone drugs her feeling. The next night he realizes he has some feelings for the heroine and meets up with another of his hook ups and fills the reader in on the details about picturing her as he slides into the chick he’s with. Didn’t even take a break. This guy isn’t even a manwhore, that can be a little sexy depending on how it’s played . Some of my favorites books have a reformed manwhore, (I just can’t stand cheating or girls waiting while guys sluts around, side note I’d bet money that’s what is about to happen here anyway, but I digress). This was different. He gives off a truly pathetic vibe. All I could picture is the creepy loser living in his parents basement spending all of his time watching porn. It’s essentially the same thing. He already says that this is him, it’s what he does all time. If he can’t find anything else to do with his free time than go out alone and screw 4 slutty chicks in 4 nights, or literally every single night of the week like it’s implied (ie spending his time hanging with friends, family, work, client meetings etc) he is definitely a loser. Who has that much free time?

Nah, masalah mulai ketika Bennet (hero buku 2 + kakaknya si Heroine Val) minta Cal buat jadiin adeknya asisten, awalnya ribut mulu, saling prank kaya pas masih kecil, sampai suatu hari

makanya gw kasih 3 bintang kwkwkwkwkwkw

Val and Callen are oil and water in the beginning. But things change when Callen steps in to save Val from a horrible situation. Attempts at honorable behavior leads to confusion, secrets, and an unexpected pregnancy.

Callen is a player who become the knight and protector. At times, Val comes across as a spoiled teenager even though she is in her 20s (which some may find annoying).

h: Valerie
H: Callan
(Dual POVs)

This book was a little disappointing in a sense that the blurb made me think this book was going to turn out differently. I thought this book was going to be full of angst, sexual tension, some banter and an argument between two best friends for breaking the bro code. The conflict that the blurb hints at doesn’t really end up being much of a conflict. There’s also a bit of a suspense aspect in the book that isn’t hinted at in the blurb at all so it kind of blindsides you when things take a turn.

I don’t think I’m typically a stickler if things happen between the hero and OW, if the hero and heroine aren’t officially together, but the way things played out in this book didn’t work for me. Callan wants to take Val on a date and one of his mistresses ends up crashing the date. Later on, his mistress comes over to “check on him” and they end up making out while she grinds on him on the couch. Before it can go further, Callan stops it, sends his mistress on her way only to invite Val over by text. Valerie shows up literally a few minutes later and they end up making out. I can understand you wanting to try to figure out your feelings to see if what you feel for Valerie is different or real but I didn’t like how he immediately invited Valerie over and starts making out with her just minutes after having another girl sitting in his lap with her tongue down his throat. Just didn’t sit too well with me.

I will say that the writing style of the author was pretty good and I’m not opposed to trying another book from this author based on the writing.

Favorite Quote:
My hands want to touch every inch of her body, but all they seem to do is make their way from her hips to her face, where I cup her cheeks and hold her against me in fear of her pulling away. I don’t want her to pull away. I want her to need this as badly as I do. -Callan

The blurb for this book makes it seem like this is a typical fell in love with my boss/brother's best friend story full of fun, hijinks, some laughs, some heat and witty banter. This book has precious little of all of this. The brother finds out and approves at the beginning of the story. The pregnancy is towards the end. Then just for fun let's mix in sexual trauma and assault with no warning. So I'm warning you, be prepared. I don't feel like the story treats the gravity of sexual assault with the reverence it deserves. The author uses it as a plot device to drive the MCs sexual chemistry. While I don't pretend to know how everyone would react I don't really think they would want to jump in bed with someone coming out of an assault.

The gross misuse of trauma aside the story is just so-so and glosses over important moments in a relationship that endear you to the characters, like the first time they say "I love you." It just randomly appears. The book spends too much time of on the wrong things that the story goes off the rails. Perhaps this book is the victim of hatchet editing that took out too much of the meat of the story or the parts that serve as cohesion, something.

An Unexpectedly Intense, Emotionally Intelligent & Boundary Pushing Story.

"My Boss's Sister" by Alexis Winter caught me off guard as what I was expecting to be a typical contemporary romance, one filled with the mildly taboo theme of a guy falling for an innapropriate girl. A story that was perhaps saucy and sinful, but similar and somewhat pedestrian like others I've read within the genre. Was anything but... In fact, I couldn't have been more wrong, as here, Winter writes a story that is surprisingly complex, with emotionally intelligent, strong characters, and a serious, heartfelt storyline.

The title of this book is actually a bit misleading as the story is far beyond the typical "boss's sister" tale. It's actually a fairly intricate, "the little sister of my childhood best friend, who is now my boss, and hires said little sister to be my assistant despite the fact that we don't get along, tease each other endlessly, and bicker like toddlers" story. The story of Callan, the playboy best friend and employee of Bennett. A best friend and employee who cringes at the thought of having to deal with the sharp tongued, combative girl who strives to get under his skin, now being placed as his assistant despite his objections. And of course, said annoying little sister herself, Valerie, now all grown up, and taking a job at the family investment firm at her brother's behest despite not being thrilled about who she's expected to work for.

And if all of the above wasn't enough literary food, add in a harrowing side dish twist of a psycho, woman drugging, angry, revenge seeking stalker. A multimillion dollar business deal gone haywire. And enough inner turmoil to power a small city, all swirling alongside the two independence loving, one-and-done playing, relationship phobic main characters. And what you get is an intense, suspenseful, emotional boundary pushing story far more layered than it first appears. One full of crazy, multifaceted situations, complicated feelings, and terrifying realities.

All of it vibrantly dancing along every page despite some periodically choppy prose and scattered, awkward transitions.

It is a captivating story of unexpected love and the fight it sometimes takes to secure and protect it. It is a fast paced, thrilling tale. One full of spine tingling twists and turns that will keep you glued to every page while you alternate between swooning, gasping and biting your nails, and fanning yourself from the fiery chemistry contained within.

Yes there are some writing hiccups within the first half that will occasionally slow you down. However, overall the book is wonderfully thrilling and I have honestly never been so happy to be wrong in all my life! As "My Boss's Sister" is a worthy, riveting read.

I enjoyed this story, but at the same time I was a little bored. I was able to predict what happened before I hit the next page.

Callan is the playboy of all playboys - different girl every night. Stays away from relationships like they’re harboring a horrible disease.
Valerie is the girl the isn’t ready for a relationship, she’s young and “wants to enjoy life” before thinking of settling down. She is also the little sister of Callan’s best friend Bennett.

Remember the old saying “boys will pick on girls they like”?
This story is it. Callan and Valerie basically tortured each other growing up 🤣

One night, while Valerie is out for some fun with her bestie Krista - something bad almost happens, but Callan saves Valerie before it does. That’s when things change - Callan tried to deny his feelings for Valerie but caves when she corners him one day trying to figure out what is going on with him.

There is a bump in the road, when Valerie gets kidnapped but it is resolved quickly when Callan and her brother save her. After that, it’s all smooth sailing (minus a minor misinterpretation of one thing) and it ends in a very sweet happily ever after.

Alexis did wonderful work with story flow, characters, and adding just enough steam to make your palms itchy. It was just the predictable plot that kind of had me forcing myself to read all the way to the finish.

****I received an ARC copy of this novel, in return for my honest thoughts and review****

I was pulled into this book right from the beginning and that is where I stayed until I had read the last word written. All the time I had my little mini movie playing along in my head.
The emotions that the characters go through can be felt, some of them actually pulled on my heart strings. I did find myself getting frustrated a time or two and I really wanted to smack a few of the characters, but they redeemed themselves by the end of the book. I went through most of the emotions along with the characters, I might of cried a little bit more than the characters. It doesn't matter how many times I read this book I cried at the same places each and every time.
There are surprises throughout the book, some are large, while others are small. Some you may see coming while others you won't, but each and every single one of them is equally as important with in the story as the next. They all play there own part in making the story the fantastic read that it is.
There isn't a single part of this book that I didn't enjoy, I wish I could give it more than five stars as I think it s worth so many more stars.
I highly recommend this book.

I really enjoyed reading this story. Quickly fell in love with the main characters. In addition to the boss’s sister connection this is also an older brother’s best friend romance.

Callan was surprised to see his best friend Bennett’s little sister Valerie was all grown up now. When they were younger, they were always at odds with each other. Playing pranks and trying to one-up the other. When he rescued her from a bad night at the club and took her home to care for her, he starts to feel differently about her. Since Bennett asked Callan to give Valerie a job as his assistant, he is forced to see her every day at the office. This makes it hard for him to escape his feelings for his best friend’s little sister.

Valerie and Callan are alike in that neither has ever had a serious relationship (nor have they wanted one). As most of us know, that can quickly change when you meet “the one”.

I think you will enjoy reading this book as much as I did. Get your copy now!

I guess I’m in the minority here with rating. This is more along the lines of 3.5 stars.

PROS: The story line was cute, I enjoyed it. POV is H/h which I love. Parts of the book made me giggle, especially when they were talking about beef jerky. It ends on a HEA with no cliffhangers!! Hallelujah!

CON: It’s very juvenile banter between the H/h that I forgot they weren’t in HS, but in their early 20’s (I’m kind of on the fence about this though). The wording in the sentences is lengthy. There are some wrong words used also.
The details are lacking for me. H is supposed to be some rich guy and I’d assume he would have some fancy sports car, but instead he has a key to start the car. Umm... push to start anyone? No details on what the make & model of his car is though, but his car is in the book quite a bit. I suppose he could be a collector of older vehicles and drives a Bug.
Also, when the h gets pregnant, she has an implant. No mention of it being removed. It’s just stuff like this throughout the book that has me confused.

I received this book as part of ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Swoon Away!

Callan was a total playboy, going through several women a week. Never getting attached, never letting anyone know the real him and never thinking he could want something more. When his best friend and boss hires his little sister to be Callan's assistant all he can think of is the bratty child who used to tattle on them. Even seeing her all grown up he still sees her as a brat, looking to ruin his life.

Valerie doesn't want to go work for Callan. He used to tease her all the time, she remembers feeling tormented by him and as soon as they'rein the same room the insults start flying. Their relationship starts out very juvenile. It reminded me much of high school because I assume that's pretty much where their relationship left off.

All that changes one night at the bar when Val needs rescue and Callan swoops in as her knight. He protects her, gets her out of danger and keeps her safe all night. A complete gentleman, even if it seems against his nature. After connecting more as actual people they both start to see the other in a much different light. It's not long before readers are swooning and wishing we had a guy like Callan in our lives. I loved how the story explored fully how each was thinking so the reader was a part of the entire ride.

The story has love, drama, twists, kidnapping, office-relationship, taboo and brothers best-friend all wrapped in a perfect package with just the right touch of sweetness and steam.

I received this story in advance from the author and am gladly leaving my voluntary honest review.

Callan was huge player that hooked up with a different woman nightly. In addition to his usuals, he easily picked up women for one nighters and threesomes.
Hiring his best friend’s younger sister who also happened to be his boss was the start of his emotional growth.
Their antagonistic relationship changed when he rescued her from being forced by a friend she had been casually dating.
I didn’t like the way Callan continued to hook up with other women to get Valerie out ofhis system even though it did help him realize that he was stuck on Valerie.
Lots of passion between this fiesty couple. A bit of drama that included an abduction and torture which I thought they all recovered pretty quickly from, but I liked the way the author continued the story and had them grow together as a couple.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

My Boss’s Sister by Alexis Winter is a touching, sweet, disconcerting story of unexpected love. Callan’s boss is his best friend. Valerie is his boss’s sister. Years ago, he treated her horribly…but, she still like him. Now, he’s her boss. She gets into a dangerous predicament and he saves her. They start to warm towards each other. This is a slow sizzle romance between unlikely people.

I appreciated how the author deftly weaves this story…yes. It is predictable….yes, you probably can anticipate the outcome. But, oh my gosh….GETTING THERE was a total joy!!!!! You love the characters she creates; the situations are (mostly) believable…and our hero is swoon-worthy in every sense of the word!!!! I LOVE all of her stories!!!!!

I am volunteering to leave a review for an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Callen and Valerie

This was a good story. The dialogue level and content seem best suited to college age readers. Both characters were in their early 20’s and considered clubbing the thing to do in their spare time. Callen had a different girl every night of the week, and Valerie made it clear she wasn’t interested in more than having some fun.

They had a past where they teased and annoyed one another to the point of mutual dislike. When Valerie went to work as Callen’s’ assistant, he found she disrupted his world, was constantly in his thoughts, and made it impossible to be with other women.

Callen shows his alpha protector side at several crucial moments which add intrigue and drama to the story.

Callan and Valerie have a hate hate like love relationship which starts from childhood to eventually working together and going from there. I really enjoyed this story. It was a fast paced romance with lots of steam, and drama. Reading how the main character grew in themselves as well as with each other was well relayed in the writing and made the character more relatable. I found certain parts of the plot really suspenseful which added more than a little more interest to the story for me. This was a really great book with such an entertaining and well developed story line.
This was an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.

There is a true line between love an hate and this story of My Boss's Sister shows you just how much. What a great story with a a happy ever after ending. I loved the bickering from the main characters and the flow of the story. It felt believable and had a couple of "so real" moments that you could truly relate to. You also have these hawt sex scenes that will keep you wanting more of it. And this author is giving you some daily dose of them. (Thank you!!!!) I really enjoyed reading this story and would recommend it to my romance reading community and my love of some really good sex scenes community.

Happy Reading......

Oh gosh I loved this so much I couldn’t put it down for very long.

“You went from being the girl that drove me insane to being the girl that made my heart race.”

This basically sums up Valerie and Callan. They practically hated each other and from one day to the next it exploded into this sizzling undeniable attraction that couldn’t be stopped. I loved how Callan just took charge and didn’t shy away from his feelings once they were out there. There was no drawn out drama. There is some suspense and it had my anxiety skyrocketing but through it all, Callan was there. He is my new favorite book boyfriend.

Alexis does it again and I can’t wait to see who’s next in this series.

This was a good read. Valerie and Callen have known each other since they were young. He is her brother’s best friend and used to torment her when they were young. Val is not sure about being Cal’s assistant. When they first work together, they butt heads so much. When an incident happens, they both see each other in a different light. Cal wants Val, but tries to keep her at arm’s length, due to being best friends with her brother and also working together. Will these two be able to put heir past behind them and have a future together, or will they stay single and miss out on something great? This was a cute story with some great characters.

I feel like I was catfished by the blurb of this book. I went into this book having only read the blurb on the back of the book and it did not deliver in that part. You should know upfront that if you are going into this because of the blurb that you might be a bit disappointed.

This book is a bit all over the place. It features a lot of well-known tropes in romance, but it doesn’t actually dive deep into any of them. You see hints of Brother’s Best Friend, Enemies To Lovers, Surprise Baby, Workplace, and some others thrown in there. And just when you think one of these tropes is going to come into play and create issues it doesn’t, but the author takes the book a completely different route and it turns into a suspense romance.

I also think there isn’t enough conflict resolution in this book because things happen so rapidly. The book goes from one big thing to the next with little breathing room in between. I really wish there were more moments where the characters worked through everything and learned from it instead of it being implied. And I wish the author developed the characters a bit more. I felt like I was missing information and backstories for the main characters and it kept me from connecting with them.

I was definitely interested in seeing this book play out because I was intrigued when certain elements came into play, but by the end, I just felt disappointed. I really enjoyed the idea of this book and I wish it would’ve been a bit better developed.

Once I started reading this book I just could not put it down! Every chance I had I picked it right back up. The story between Valerie and Callen started out realistic and is not a “love at first sight” book that you find often. There is drama and there is passion. I like how we got to read so much more into their relationship than most books. The sexual moments always make a book more interesting if you can feel the passion between the two characters and you can definitely feel the passion between those two. I highly recommend this book!

First off if I could have I would give this book more than 5 stars. It is everything I expected and more from one of my favorite authors. I want to say dang I want a guy like Callan. I mean he is everything I want lol. Val is the sister of his best friend but when emotions are involved these two are an amazing pair. I love the way Alexis brings the characters to life. This book is full of angst and heat and love to hate protective older brothers that make me relate quite well to this story. I can’t wait to read more from her!!!

Good but ...

The story was great! Some of it was predictable, but the story comprehended about 5 or 6 chapters before it actually ended. It seemed as though the author was trying to fill a quota on how long they wanted this book to be. It's unfortunate because it was unnecessary and takes away from how good the story actually was. My idea of a great book is to leave your reader wanting more, but I kept wondering when it was going to end. It just kept going and going and going. I would read another book from this author however because I enjoyed the storyline.

This book was fabulous! It was an enemies to lovers romance. Callan and Valerie had so much chemistry! Callan is Valerie's brother, Bennet's, best friend since childhood. Growing up, Callan and Valerie torchured each other with words. Bennet got Valerie a job with his company as Callan's secretary. Needless to say, neither are happy about the arrangement. Working together is torchure for both of them. Except one fatal night changes everything between the two. This book is a must read! I highly recommend this book!

I loved these characters! Each of them have great personalities. Alpha male who is a real player, dates more than one woman at a time, more than one woman in a day. Dynamic woman who enjoys her life, feisty, and is not ready to settle down. Goes to work for her brothers best friend and they clash and they crash and then they burn. This is a great story about people changing and growing and loving each other along the way. The story really works and it will tug at your heart and you hope they get all the things they want. I loved it!

I loved Callan since his brief cameo in book one in the “Make Her Mine” series. I also enjoyed watching his playboy lifestyle slowly crumble but also how blunt he becomes when Valerie walks back into his life. Will one night be enough to get Valerie out of Callan’s system or will he need a lifetime? These two couldn’t be more opposite even with their striking similarities will they be able to put their childhood past behind them and face Bennet’s wrath (Callan’s boss and Valerie’s brother) in order to create their own happily ever after?

Enemies to Lovers

Thus was really cute sweet story. Two people who absolutely hate each other and than things do 180 and they become friends and then lovers. There are upstate and downs through the storage that engage the reader. You learn about there childhood, there family. The loved ending. It was complete conclusion. It's wasn't rushed or forced. It was very gradually and smooth. I can't say many books I've read lately have had such good complete ending like this one. Loved it.
