Kling Johnson portrays Mysooru Dasara celebration and its beauty in an elaborative manner. The author outlines the rich cultural heritage with the utmost clarity. He represents the struggle of animals and their desires. CLI's determination is admirable.
The language is eloquent, and the author uses commendable vocabulary. The narration is smooth, and I like the conversation between CLI and the mules. The dog, Feddy, and his pack make me smile. A few grammatical errors are found.
The author succeeds in creating a fantasy world where one can enjoy every tiny detail, but I also felt the need to read more about Subhadra and other animals. It is a light read and hooked the readers from start to end. The book is suitable for teenagers as well as youngsters. I recommend it.
A different story, weaved around animals always excites me. All of us have some dreams in life and we always struggle hard to achieve them. This book conveys the same essence with a beautiful and cute story of CLI – The colt. Set in the beautiful backdrop of Ooty and Mysooru, this book narrates the story of a beautiful and handsome horse, CLI – The colt. He has a distinct sword like patch hidden under his forelock. He lives with her mother and father in Ooty, However, he yearns to be a part of King’s royal stable where he can eat fine quality of grass and sweet beet pulp.
Though he has a strong will, it seems impossible to be a part of a royal stable. CLI’s grandfather was a charm of Royal procession and he wants to live just like him.
Fortunately, one day an accident leaves him closer to the South Indian Madumalai reserve, where, the world’s most notorious forest brigands Beerappan rules. Though fearful, he made a choice and embarks on a journey where he meets with various animals that help him and he also meets Beerappan.
After a few more struggles, he gets what he wants? But what will happens when the present king realizes that he is the grandson of the horse Herold, because of whom his grandfather have to bear the disgrace in the 400th Dashhara procession?

The author has written this book with utmost simplicity keeping it suitable to read for all age group. The narration is captivating and lucid which will hold you till the last.
My perception:
This book represents various things, be it the courage of CLI, his strong determination and his composure during the worst of situation. The author has also voiced various animals through the story of White Tiger, Raajana Huli, and the palace elephant Subhadra’s story, showing how much brutality they are going through. The culture, rituals, and architect of Mysooru palace are interestingly depicted by the author though this story. CLI’s character has a unique charm which will make imagine and fall in love with him.
Overall, this was a quick, beautiful, impressive and inspiring story, which you can also read to your kids.
