Colonel Colton James Ragnarson III should have known better. He wanted nothing more than to enjoy his retirement after his intensely active combat years in the US Army, take care of his family, and find the mystery woman who had made him personalized weapons. Those weapons made the Pentagon desperate to find her as well, as they had saved Colt’s life and the lives of his men on countless occasions.
Never had he intended to engage in a secret liaison that required he go against his usual “give no Fs” demeanor. After making early mistakes in his teenage years, he was a model soldier and guardian to his ward. However, maintaining his strict discipline was proving to be impossible after meeting his ward’s roommate and best friend.
Nothing had prepared him for Imani St. John. She evoked emotions in him that he’d never experienced or thought he was even capable of. He knew others would think what he felt for her was inappropriate. However, he would stop at nothing to have her, and the objection of his family, or Imani herself, would not sway him. Keeping the obsession he felt for her a secret was becoming harder every day.
Imani St. John had structured her life around protecting her identity. Remaining hidden from the man intent on hunting her down should have been her priority. Instead, to appease the secret crush she felt for her best friend’s guardian, she may have exposed critical clues about who and what she was.
Horrified by the thoughts of the dangers he faced while in combat zones, she ignored the risk of being discovered and made him weapons of innovative technology that would protect him, but they’d also garnered attention she couldn’t afford if she hoped to keep her identity hidden.
Now she was being hunted by men who wanted that technology and other secrets she’d long buried. How could she ever hope to have an honest relationship with any man? Could she give up her father’s secret for the love of one man?
The first romance novel I ever read was Cinderella! I devoured Disney’s version of romance until I was eleven, and then I discovered Mills & Boons. In those days kissing was the most explicit intimacy disclosed: the hero and heroine went to bed and came out the next day with smiles! I had no idea what happened, but I was intrigued. My mom had shelves and shelves of them. Over the long summer breaks, I barely left my bedroom! My busy parent had no idea what I was up to. I’ve always been fascinated with love stories. I started writing in college, but I never expected anyone would ever read my whimsical musings. LOL! Now years later, after husband and kids, and a solid career in finance I’ve started publishing those early ideas.
I write my stories so that every woman would be inspired to find the other half of themselves. With every story I tell, my Caribbean sisters are highlighted. Our culture is a melting pot of all ethnicities, where love has no color. We love who we love and make no apology for it. These stories are also infused with my love for sports and action thrillers. I’m an avid sports fan. Tennis, football, track and basketball are my favorites. I devour dramas and action movies. So it’s to be expected that my books have a healthy dose of adventure.
Writing romance novels has been a dream I never knew I had. It was born out of suddenly having a little extra time with the kids out of the house. I absolutely love this creative outlet.
Author’s Creed I like women strong, and my men stronger! I like my sex raunchy but meaningful!
Another page turner, by D.M.. Mortier. A forbidden love affair, ... Divided by race, age, social barrier, this book will keep you enthralled to the very end. Greed, murder, conspiracy, betrayals ....etc , but love will conquer!!! Great read!!
Talk about hot !!! I'm still sweating. More AC please. Lol... but seriously though, this was very erotic and action packed. Not to mention emotional. From beginning to end I was cheering for Imani and Colt.
Excellent read. Loved the couple. Great family members especially Justin. Colt is my hero. Wish I had Imani knowledge & skills.. I cried while reading about her family members tragic death. Sarah was a nut job, she got what she deserved. A must read - read about the special weapons, phony friend, a vice president and more.
Couldn't put this book down. Read it in two days and only because I was savoring every word. Can't say enough but loved the fast pacedness of this book. Colt and Imani -- OMG loved their love story. A man loving and cherishing his woman thrills me. Nothing more said. Love your work DM. Just love your work.
This book has everything to grab and hold your attention. A suspenseful plot that flows with family drama, surprising betrayal and finally retribution. Interesting characters, a whirlwind of events, Colton and Imani's delightful love story keeps you turning the page wanting more.
History repeats itself and Ms Mortimer has created another awesome story. The super intelligent Imani St John will blow your mind with her will to live and love all things Colt, (our hero). There shared love and ability to survive will take you away!
This book was endless adrenaline with passionate love scenes. Pleasantly surprised at the action and furturistic weapons featured. Would be great if this were a series.
Wow! I found me a gem! Happy to see the Caribbean diaspora being highlighted in story! Thank you for your words and creation, it was beyond different from anyting I’ve read. The story was all around amazing.
BUT LOVED It. I enjoyed that imani was a strong sister with a soft side. I loved that Colt was an alpha with a sweet side. No problem, it was good and great and Sarah got what she deserve. Thanks again
You never disappoint!! What a great story. I really loved Imani and Colt and their lively and passionate relationship. From the beginning of the novel one course the chemistry between these two unlikely characters. Both Alphas and neither giving in. Added to this, Imani is a highly intelligent woman creating some very sophisticated weaponry for her man. Weapons that other people want.. So the plot thickens. I just love these two characters as they try to find out who killed Imani's family and why. Great plot and I think this is D.M Mortier at her best. A fabulous read!!
I was a little unsure because I usually don’t do the older make a d younger female stories. But I the plot the characters was excellent. I would say Imani and Sara acted their age which was annoying because they didn’t get a chance to mature into who they are before life came in.
From another West Indian sister great job. Colt was alpha and was bad as hell but he certainly met his match in Imani. I wished there really was a protection suit like you described or, so you know something we don't know? Any way I really enjoyed this book.
"Secret Obsession" was an extremely enjoyable story! Colt was an alpha badass army colonel who, when he was eighteen, had taken in a two year old girl after her mother commited suicide. When she went to college, Colt met her roommate, Imani, and fought his obsessive attraction to her for four long years, a mutual attraction, unbeknownst to Colt. Meanwhile, Colt had been gifted (secretly by Imani) super combat weapons that saved the lives of him and his soldiers on numerous occasions during battle. And someone wanted those weapons and Imani bad enough to kill for...
Based off of what I just put on my title, said reader can determine for themselves that this book is awesome! Don’t stop at just this one, read them all they are that good!
The first time I have read this author's work but I guarantee it will not be the last. A really enjoyable rollercoaster of a ride read. Loved the heroine being educated and someone in her own right equal to the hero, that's how we roll 😇.
I see why the author referred to Sarah as Cole's ward instead of his adopted daughter which she essentially was. What I don't get his how her character wasn't noted before things got hot and heavy between him and imani. Falling for your daughter's roommate and best friend isn't an original idea but I liked the sneaking around part. The love scenes were written well and were plentiful but the characters falling in love wasn't believable to me beyond lust. Yes, Imani is unusually smart and mature for her age but Colt's desire for her seemed to be built on superficial lust, especially when he finds out she's a virgin. Anyway, the plot progresses well, it's an okay backstory but dipped into fantasy that didn't fit the story. It was still a decent read though
I got this book before many reviews were written. I wish I had waited. I always read the bad reviews for a book. If there are to many I usually skip it. But in any case , with this book I tried but I just couldn't get past the age difference. Most of the negative reviews focused on her race. I'm really shocked nobody had a problem with a grown man lusting after a child. I'm disappointed in this author
Looking for lust, mystery, love and action? Stop right here! This book has everything you need and want in spades. The plot and dialogue was fast paced and kept me turning page after page! Couldn’t put it down!
This book was amazing...I stayed up all night reading it (thank God it’s the weekend lol), it had action, suspense and laughter, I was yelling at times then laughing, this is my kind of movie in a book!
