Uncovered: The Naked Truth of Life, Love and Addiction

Rate this book
In Uncovered, author Matt Mathews recounts a lifetime spent breaking the unfortunate cycle of addiction as well as sharing his experiences with growing up as a gay person in Alabama. With insights about the heartbreak of losing loved ones due to tragic events and how to break ties with those who harm us, as well as amusing anecdotes from his life as a professional boudoir photographer. A comedic self-help memoir and all around hilariously tragic story, The Naked Truth of Life, Love, and Addiction doesn’t take itself seriously as it faces many taboo topics we rarely discuss. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and in the end, you’ll survey your own life so you can better face the challenges this remarkable journey of human survival will relentlessly serve up.

Matt is an entrepreneur and social influencer turned comedian most recently. I follow him on social media and did him funny and interesting so I bought his book. A quick read about his life growing up in Alabama with addicts and death all around him.

I’ve followed Matt for quite a while on social media. After attending one of his comedy shows I decided to purchase his book. I enjoyed reading about his life and getting to know his history and where he came from. Definitely a good and funny read if you enjoy his social media content.

A poignant, inspiring, triumphant read ! If you are someone who has to deal with addiction in any way, if you are someone who constantly gets in your own way, you need to read this book! If you come away unamazed and uninspired hang it up. You are already gone!

Matt Mathews memior, is one of the funniest, sad, most truthful that I have ever read. He is such an inspiration, adversity looks good on some people, but looks best on him. I have enjoyed everything from him farm chore videos, to his friendship with one of my favorite teen mom's (Kail Lowry), and beyond. I am also invested in all of his animals. I look forward to watching him perform his comedy life one day.

Nice little autobiography about one of my favorite boudoir photographers turned TikTok famous comedians. He came from rough upbringings and he has suffered a lot of loss. But he has decided to breathe through it all, connect with animals and nature and be a better person. Very sweet. I read it all in one sitting in a couple hours. Nice palate cleanser from my normal books I read.

I have decided not to give memoires a star rating this year. It doesn't seem right to assign a rating to someone else's life story.
HOWEVER... I did enjoy this. It gave us the run down on Matt's upbringing, career come up, and current life in such a fun way. He brought seriousness and humor together in such a fun way.

Good read. Matt has a way of making you feel you are not alone and always look for the positive. Following him on social media I did not realize the struggles he had with his family and growing up. I appreciate his openness and candid remarks on life, family and friendships. I enjoyed reading this book and recommend others to read it as well. Quick read, lots of laughs and heartfelt moments.

This book gave me all the feels. Matt has been through it. I had his voice in my head reading this and that is what made me laugh alot. He has been through so much and literally worked his butt off to the top. This book was published in 2019. So much has happened to him since then. I would love to see another book come out.

I loved hearing Matt’s story in full! I laughed, cried, and was inspired. Definitely recommend for any fan. It was short, but to the point. I would love another book from him. My only critique is that there are some typos and grammar issues and some jumping around, but it wasn’t a big deal to me.

Read this because my mom told me to. Haha. She is obsessed with this guy! I knew nothing about him. But flew through this book. Super easy read.

“But the truth is that you cannot help an addict unless the addict wants the help from you. Remember, it’s ok to cut ties with people. Loving someone doesn’t mean you can’t end a chapter with them and move forward with your life. Sometimes it is a necessary evil. I think sometimes we allow our love for someone to hinder our reality and best judgment. Just because we love someone doesn’t mean we have to sacrifice our own life to change that person. You cannot help someone who doesn’t want to be helped.”

“I’ve also learned that though this crazy life comes with so much beauty, tragedy, despair, heartache, and wisdom, unfortunately there seems to be more “ugly and dark“ in this world than light. All we can do is muddle through this messy thing called life, love each other a little harder, hold each other a little tighter, and enjoy the moments we have with the ones we love most.”
