Jay Gill was born in Poole, Dorset, United Kingdom. At aged 18, Jay moved to London where he worked in the printing industry, specialising in pharmaceutical leaflets and packaging. After years of commuting and working in this fast-paced environment, Jay moved back to Dorset with his family to enjoy the slower pace of life on the south coast. It was at this point that he carved out time to develop the detective thrillers that had been rattling around inside his head.
He lives with his wife and two daughters on the south coast of England, and though he loved the twenty-something years he spent in and around London, and the home counties, he feels settled and at peace in his native Dorset.
Absolutely brilliant really enjoyed the first book but this was even better.Storyline kept me enthralled from start to finish.Main character James Hardy very believable and so are supporting cast.I am now going to start the next in the series,I would now hesitate to recommend them to anyone who is into Police procedures.
am really enjoying this series so much so that I'm already hooked at book 3 great detective great team behind him and believable plot well done Jay Gill you got me hooked xxx
I wasn't absolutely thrilled with the earlier books in this series but this was definitely better. It's worry reading the earlier ones to to get a re as k feel of the main characters and the background stories. I personally am not a massive fan of books like this written in the first person but did get used to it somewhat(still not preferably though) . This book has a really good storyline with two totally different killers to find. Characters good too but hoping James Hardy lightens up a bit in the next in the series (that I will read).
I loved the mix of the two themes in this book, both of which are well managed by the brilliant DCI James Hardy. Enough of his private life to both like and understand him. I am certainly looking forward to reading more in the series.
I’ve read two of the Hardy novels before and I quite enjoyed them, as they were enjoyably free of many of the clichés of detective fiction. It doesn’t break a lot of new ground but it retraces familiar ground in a very pleasing way.
James Hardy investigates a brutal murder committed by someone who the press has dubbed ‘The Angel Killer’ for the way he leaves his victims. Hardy knows the killer is gaining in confidence so he’ll continue until he is stopped. The story is good; the plot is well thought out and the characters are well written and interesting. The narrative is well-paced too making it an easy read and never overtly complicated for the sake of impressing the reader rather than adding to the story. Hardy’s caseload is bursting at the seams -- so okay there are a few clichés. What raises this above a typical detective novel is that the victims appear to becoming increasingly politically significant and that the murderer is toying with the police, doing everything but identifying his next victim.
Hardy struggles to rebuild a stable home for himself and his two young daughters after the murder of their mother -- yes this is another cliché but it’s well rendered. He puts his personal life on hold to focus on the job. With time running out he finally succeeds but has learned important lessons along the way. I would give it 3 ½ stars if I could but settled on four as I was always eager to continue with the audiobook. That's my ultimate test.
