Holy W O W. This collection felt so personal and like it was plucked straight from a life that seems so far away when it’s only been 13 years. It is beautifully and honestly written without holding back at all. I applaud the writing style and how hard the delivery is with so few words. Thank you, Victoria Ellis, THANK YOU.
I have never read anything so heartbreakingly beautiful like this. It was so so emotional, so raw and so powerful. I cried, I felt warmth in my heart with her newfound love and I felt proud when she realised how strong she is.
Victoria, you have me at a loss for words. I felt every emotion whilst reading your poems, and I thank you so much for printing your experiences, it allows people in similar situations to relate.
This is a very personal, very passionate book of poems and I adored every single word. Happy endings aren't always as easy as they seem but this author finally got hers. Wow.
When I read the very first poem, I can hear my self catch my breath, then the second poem after, my eyes were drawn fully to every word like they held a weight to each their own, as if reading them as I’ve experienced them myself. Victoria Ellis’s Bloom, is full of raw emotion, vulnerability and experiences that needs to be shared and spoken about. Bloom, is an inspiring read, that will move you, as a book should do.
This was such a stunning, raw, and emotional collection. The imagery created by her words was so intense. I believe her poetry is the gut punch we all need. I highly recommend.
Beautifully written. I will say this definitely needs a trigger warning if you have dealt with domestic violence in any way. I love stories told through poetry and was greatly moved by this book. It’s well worth the read.
Words cannot perfectly explain the way these poems hit me, but here’s my attempt:
I spent about five years living with my alcoholic father as he spewed countless nasty words in my direction in his drunken haze. From being called worthless to being told that he regretted ever adopting me and marrying my mother, I heard it all. And after a while, I began to believe it. His anger was also directed towards my mother, but to her, he directed his fists.
Even though I’m no longer in that situation, I still struggle with everything, especially with relationships, both platonic and romantic. I’ve never related as much to something as I do to what Victoria so beautifully wrote in a passage titled “The Leftovers”:
“I have feelings and they come out when I’m being vulnerable enough to let them. I get mad and angry and scared and I get mean. And my pain becomes yours all over again and instead of you getting any relief you get more and more bogged down by me.”
Bloom is such an inspiring book of poems that depict her journey through an abusive marriage and the aftermath of living like she did. It’s messy and painful and true and so beautifully written.

WOW. This collection absolutely broke my heart and put it back together all in the span of 100+ pages. The author gives you an insight into the past 10ish years of her life in the form of beautiful poetry. Your heart breaks reading about the abuse she went through but recovers as you read through her journey of recovery. Her struggles of feeling like she isn’t good enough for love and having trouble accepting new love; being all too familiar for someone who experienced similar abuse. Her poems are beautifully written and convey true emotion. I’ll be ordering a paperback version very soon.
This is a beautiful but also heartbreaking collection. Domestic violence is an all too common occurrence and I applaud the author for simultaneously speaking her truth and spreading awareness.
