The third in this series, and I think my least favorite so far. I know there are others after this, but I feel like this really rounded out the 'trilogy' that was the story of the original three couples nicely. So nicely, that I'm not sure I need the next story in the series. But, we'll see. It was my least favorite because it was the most 'ridiculous'.
This novel HEAVILY relies on the Luke is rich and semi-famous story line. The whole concept is that the paparazzi have become obsessed with getting shots of Brooke and Luke and anything to do with their wedding, including trying to get actual photos of the wedding. So much so, that Luke and Brooke have taken great measures to keep their wedding date from anyone who didn't need to know exactly when or where it was. I know Luke was famous and the tabloids harassed him a fair bit in the first novel of the series, "Miss Match", but for some reason I never pictured him at the level of famous that caused paparazzi to stalk his wedding plans. I pictured him as a maybe like a Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg. Famous, but no one really seems to be salivating for the intimate details of Zuckerberg's life, and his wedding photos were printed in like People and then everyone moved on. I don't remember a crazy mania, dubbing it the wedding of the year. It felt like Armstrong was treating it more as like the mania that surrounds a royal wedding, which I found a little ridiculous.
So, because they are trying to keep the relentless paps from ruining their big day, they enlist Zooey and Mitch to finalize the wedding details for them for two weeks in Paris. They are getting married at Versailles, and so all the other vendors are there as well. Because Luke and Brooke don't want to tip the paps that they're taking a trip to France and looking at all these wedding vendors, possibly giving away their wedding date, Zooey and Mitch agree to the plan. We learn that at the engagement party, Mitch and Zooey kissed, a passionate kiss that sparked some hidden feelings, but then Zooey made out with another dude the next day and now they are rude to each other. Cool.
The rest of the story is Zooey and Mitch running around doing mindless wedding chores while simultaneously 'falling back in love'. Mind you, they only ever shared one kiss and have never had more than a semi friendly relationship before then. It's the classic opposites attract story where they figure out they balance each other out, with the added drama of avoiding a stalker-azzi. In the end, all goes perfectly for Luke and Brooke and their wedding, and Zooey and Mitch confirm their love for each other. Oh, and they end up getting legally married. Because the handful of kisses they've shared and the brief learning to adapt to each other's differences was plenty of time and commitment for them to know they wanted to be married. And sure, there are plenty of people who have very wonderful marriages after only knowing each other for two weeks. But it's not super common, so when it's done like this, it just feels a little like "oh seriously, c'mon". Basically, it felt like Armstrong just wanted to get the ultimate "happy ending" to round out what she probably thought was going to be the end of the series, ending it all on an extremely high note.
Overall, it was a fairly enjoyable read. Zooey and Mitch were my least favorite couple, and I feel like they got significantly less character development because we spent so much time having them do wedding errands. Generally, I feel like Luke and Brooke and Andi and Ben got a lot more fleshed out as characters in their novels. Because of that, I enjoyed their stories more and was more 'excited' when they finally got together in the end.
