This Thing of Ours is a stand alone novel by Sarah Curtis and is a spin off from her book Bad Beat. I haven’t read Bad Beat and it didn’t make any difference at all for my enjoyment of this book. And enjoy this book I did! It is amazing.
Gabby Conti is a twenty-two year old college student and wants nothing more than to live the normal life of a college student. Unfortunately, that’s never been possible for her. Gabby is the only daughter of a mob boss. Her older brother, Nico, is also highly protective of her.
Marco Bianchi owes the Conti family everything. When he was younger, they rescued him from an abusive father and a life he was barely surviving. He has sworn his life to the Family. And he will never break that vow. Which is why he can never act on the object of his obsession, Nico’s little sister, Gabby. He’s known her since she was twelve. When she turned eighteen he was hit with a bolt of lightening. He suddenly saw her as a woman, the woman he loved. But Nico would never approve of his sister being with a man like him. So he kept his feelings locked down tight.
Gabby has loved Marco for ten long years but it was always obvious that it was a one sided love. She has to move on and accept that he will never see her as she sees him. So she decides to finally date.
When Gabby’s life is in danger, Marco is finally forced to accept his feelings for her. He was faced with the possibility of losing her forever and can’t imagine a future without her in it.

Marco is about as alpha as a hero can get. If you are a fan of a jealous/possessive man, this book is for you. Gabby and Marco’s dates are comical because he can’t control his possessiveness towards her. But, it’s his reaction to her that stole my heart. I’ve never seen a man more overwhelmed with love as he is. It’s like all the love he kept hidden for so long pours out of him.
“Did she feel as he felt? Was her heart beating faster? Did she crave to come closer? Was just the thought of touching him enough to send her to her knees? Because he felt all that and more.”
I loved this book. I loved watching Gabby and Marco navigate their feelings while at the same time dealing with the danger their family is in. This was steamy, sexy, sweet and even humorous. There was also plenty of suspense involved that had me on the edge of my seat! I loved everything about it. This is only my second book by Sarah Curtis but I am hooked. I can’t wait for more by this author.

Oh my gosh!!! I absolutely, totally, undeniably LOVED this book! Be prepared for I shall shout about it until every single person has read it because it is just that good!
Gabby has had a thing for Marco since she was a teenager. Safe within her family’s care, she hasn’t had much opportunity to date or even develop friendships. As the daughter and then sister of a mafia boss, while she hasn’t exactly been prevented from knowing the bad that comes with her family’s name, she also hasn’t been allowed loose into the world without protection. It’s been years since her crush on her brother’s enforcer first began and it’s now become clear that he’s never going to notice her as a woman. It may be time to move on. And that decision is what changes everything.
Marco owes everything he is to the Conti family. Ten years ago they brought him into the fold and he will die if necessary to prove his loyalty and unconditional dedication to them.
However, when Gabriella falls into danger his reactions may have shined a light on feelings he should not have, least of all allow to be seen by Nico. After all, what mafia boss, despite their close friendship, would want his baby sister to get caught up with a man like him? Nevertheless, he is unable to hide the depth of emotion that rises to his normally implacable surface when he finally has Gabby safe in his arms.
Feelings are suddenly exposed and he finds himself yearning for and unable to let go of the sassy, sweet and funny woman he’s watched for years.
Gabby was so much fun to get to know. She is definitely going on my favorite heroine list. With a quick wit, gentle nature but sassy attitude, she was like a beacon in the dark for Marco. Despite the trauma she had to endure, she found strength to move forward and I loved that she was so valiant to uphold the Conti beliefs even when she wanted to yield to her tears. She knew exactly when to push and when to retreat and, given her state of innocence, she was never that heroine you would want to yell at. She was the perfect complement for Marco.
Marco was freaking everything! This big burly man who was prone to grunt at times rather than speak had a soft sweet spot and it was given life the minute Gabriella returned his desire. Having lived a life of darkness, it is within her smiles that he finds his greatest reward and to that end he endeavors to keep her smiling.
I loved that he wanted to give her “normal” and to do so, went as far as scheduling a three date rule…something of which he really knew nothing about. The results were often shocking, hilarious and heartwarming. I couldn’t ask for a more perfect hero!
This is a fast paced read with clear, precise writing that never bogs down or loses the reader to unnecessary information. The secondary characters highlight the hero and heroine as well as help to move the story along. While overall it is low angst, there is definitely drama that arises from outside this couple’s relationship and will keep you on the edge of your seat. With a heat level that will incinerate your ereader, and an amazing epilogue that scans years, you’ve got yourself the makings of one amazing comfort read.
With the perfect balance of danger, drama, humor, romance and steam as well as two unforgettable characters, I cannot recommend this book enough.

You would think a mafia book could not be described as sweet but holy cow was Marco, big bad mafia guy a total sweetheart! To me, he's the perfect book boyfriend. He's the hot, bad boy we all love but turned to total mush whenever Gabby was involved. The way he treated her has me completely jealous of a fictional character.
Gabby was such a good heroine. I respected her. She had spunk but wasn't overbearing with it. She's been in love with Marco since she was a teenager but she also didn't throw herself at him. I really liked that about her and it made these two coming together even better.
I'm such a fan of a couple dealing together with angst outside of the relationship and not against each other. They had adjusting to do, but it was handled in a great way. I thought it was great how the author was able to show the small struggles of a new relationship without turning it into huge fights.
I got such a kick out of these two. I want more books with couples like this! ARC provided by author.

Another winner by Sarah Curtis. Gabby has had a thing for Marco for years. He’s been there since she was a young girl. Not really a big part of her life as he works for her brother. He’s a made man. Marco has always kept her at arm’s length because Gabby deserves a different life, a normal life. Until Gabby’s life is threatened, then all bets are off.
Marco was my favorite kind of hero. He was protective, he was madly in love with Gabby and he was loyal to his core. Marco was hot, hot, hot. I loved that Marco while loyal to Nico, always put Gabby first.
I adored Gabby. She was sweet and strong with the right amount of feistiness. She knew she wanted Marco and was set on proving to him that he deserved a pure love like hers. She loved her family and knew what she wanted out of life and didn’t let anything stop her.
This book had the right amount of romance mixed with suspense and action. It has a strong sense of family and we get plenty of on page time with Nico and Olivia. It was great catching up with them. This is the perfect mafia romance.

Another awesome story from Sarah Curtis. This Thing of Ours is a low angst read that had the perfect romance balance of being sexy yet still sweet. Marco is an amazing hero. I have read all of Sarah Curtis' books and Marco is one of my all-time favorite heroes. He is just the perfect alpha. I thought Gabby was great as well. Really likeable heroine. Highly recommend this book especially if you are fan of Sarah Curtis' previous books.

There are two books written by this author that I absolutely love due to their heroes: Alluring and The Bad Beat.
This one was a miss for me because I didn't like the hero. He wasn't enough of an "alpha" to my taste idk.

I reckon you’d have to be pretty fearless (or crazy) to fall in love with a mafia princess. Working for the family as a minion/soldier would probably be worse because you know what they’re capable of. One step wrong in courting the princess could leave you dead. You would have to be pretty damn sure that she has feelings for you too. What if, you hit on her and she didn’t like it? I’m pretty sure it would be bye-bye, Minion/Soldier. Lucky for Marco, he’s fearless, a wee bit crazy in love and would die before hurting Gabriella.
I really enjoyed This Thing of Ours. Sarah Curtis has written a fast-paced and exciting love story that left me satisfied. It was great to catch up with Nico and Olivia and see their happy every after playing out. We get a gritty read without any uncomfortableness. I didn’t have to squint at my kindle because the violence was too much. There were no times that my stomach turned when the “family” made sick demands. It was an easy read with a touch of intrigue, plenty of heat and lots of sigh-worthy moments.
Gabriella and Marco have been on each other’s radars for years. It started out as teenage infatuation for Gabriella when Marco came to work for Nico. As the years went on, infatuation turned into lust and then unrequited love. But, turns out it wasn’t so unrequited after all. Gabriella’s 18th birthday changed everything but it would be 4 years later before anything happens. Gabriella’s life is in danger and Marco will do everything to protect her and make her his.
Marco is the kind of hero that in some ways he's pretty damn perfect. I admit, he's a bit of a hothead and overreacts a teeny bit when it comes to Gabriella. There's protecting what's yours and taking offence (on behalf of your woman) when no offence was meant. I think in some ways this shows that Gabriella and Marco are perfect for each other. Gabriella knows how to handle her man and because of the life she's lived up till now, understands and forgives his overreactions.
Look, I’m the first person to admit to being a bit of a wimp when it comes to dark reads, but I think too much of the bad stuff is hidden in This Thing of Ours. I needed to know what Gabriella had gone through. I wanted to see the hurt and upset she felt after her 18th birthday. I needed to understand a bit more about her horrific experience. For some, leaving out the dark and gritty will make this story perfect. I just needed a little more than I got.
I’m a fan of Sarah Curtis and her sexy heroes. She sets the bar high as we come to expect all men to be handsome, strong, possessive, bossy and sexy. If only our book boyfriends could jump out of the pages and become a reality.

I love the cover of this book, the model is absolutely stunning.
The cover put this book on my to-read list. Reviews by friends make it my next read.
There’s loads of reviews so I’ll skip my summary and just dive in with my opinion.
I loved this book.
Gabriella for me was the stunning model on the cover. Marco was the perfect romance male. He’s sexy as sin, suited up, handsome and dangerous. A man of few words who desires Gabby more than anything else in the world.
He’s loyal to the family. Nico saved him and he owes him his life. He wants Gabby but feels he’s not good enough (he’s so so wrong) and believes Nico wouldn’t approve.
These two are perfect together and I loved them both.
These are some of my favourite Marco quotes:
“Be sure, cara mia, because once you’re mine, I’m never letting you go.”
“You’re so beautiful, it almost hurts to look at you.”
“Been wanting a long time to make you mine. Never in a million years did I think it would happen.”
“You’re the only one I’ve ever wanted.”
“I know I’ve said this once before, but I need you to be perfectly clear on what I’m saying. Once I have you, you’re mine. No turning back. No stopping. I won’t ever let you go so make damn sure I’m who and what you really want.”

So why not 5*?
I’m a picky reader. I wish I wasn’t and I hate it most of the time but it is what it is.
There were inconsistencies and things that just niggled me. Not enough to stop me loving this book but enough to stop me giving the 5* it was very close to getting.
This is a new author to me but I’m off to check out her other books now.

If my heart could've sighed in happiness at the end of this book it would've because this was just the sweetest ever!
Marco has been working for The Family since he was 18, he's now Nico's close friend and body guard but he's never forgotten that Nico saved his life.
Gabriella Conti is Nico's younger sister and has had a crush on Marco since she met him.
At the beginning of this Gabby starts dating and even kisses another guy, (this didn't bother me because there'd never been any indication that anything was developing between her and Marco)that decision led to her being kidnapped, beaten and almost raped.
Marco had no interest in Gabby in the years they'd known each other and so he was with other women, until when Gabby was 18 and she walked in on him with a woman.Seeing the hurt on her face he made a vow to never hurt her again and had been celibate since then. While I'm not a fan of the unrequited crush plot I found in this instance that I loved that it was only as Gabby turned 18 that Marco viewed her with any kind of interest (because honestly him waiting for her to age up from 12 or even 16 would've creeped me way the hell out)and determined from that point on to not be with anyone else.
Gabby's kidnapping brought these two together and then we have the building of their relationship and Marco's determination to enforce a 3 date rule that turned adorably into Disasters.
As Marco is also Nico's right hand we also get the bloodshed and brutality as they sought to stop a rival mafia family from inflicting further damage to their Family. My darling Nico was present in all
his badassery as they took those guys down.
All in all I loved this sweet,sexy story of the stubborn
Mafia princess and the badass, jealous possessive ,protective Alpha who didn't mind shedding a little blood to protect what's his!
Thankfully this author's didn't shy way from saying cock, pus*y and clit because I'm really very weary of reading "shaft," "place between her thighs"and "bundle of nerves hidden in her folds" 🤢
I'm hoping that all of Nico's guys get their own stories because give me a jealous, possessive,loyal Alpha badass and I'm already ready to preorder!

And honestly, if you are going to include an overused and tired cliché scenario where your heroine walks in on the hero with another woman and gets hurt, you need to ACTUALLY take the time to explain what she saw and what happened. Because I have about 1000000001 questions that have NO answers...and of course she has to be a 22-year-old virgin that has only been kissed ONCE by a guy setting her up. Because, hey it is not at all like she is a doormat holding out for a guy that never gave her the time of day ONCE until she gets kidnapped...sigh. I am not even sure why I bothered with this one to begin with...*lol*

Sarah did it again... she made me fall in love with yet another man of hers. I wasn’t sure if I would love anyone as much as Nico but Marco is a close second. He was sweet, possessive, loving, and protective. He was everything you would want and need in a book boyfriend. But what Sarah did that many authors can’t is also make me love the h. Gabby was fantastic! She wasn’t full of herself or all about drama. She didn’t have this road block of insecurity that most girls have. She was witty and sweet. I loved their story. I loved the action and seeing familiar faces. Definitely in my top 3 of Sarah’s books for sure!

Marco and Gabriella were so great together. This story really swept me away in all the right feels. I love this type of hero. He's loyal, passionate, protective and possessive. I also loved that Gabby didn't shy away once he stepped up. I loved their "date fiascos". I enjoy how Sarah weaves humor and heart in every tale. There's nothing but good feeling romance with a dash of danger and that's like cat nip for me.

As an avid mafia romance enthusiast and true romantic at heart, I can be hard to please when it comes to this particular genre. Too sweet and sappy and the storyline becomes boring. Too OTT dark and I’m completely turned off. More steam than substance and I’m stopping in my tracks and tossing it aside. Fortunately, Sarah Curtis proves once again she keeps a well balanced blend of these elements in her romantic tales. Throw in her perfect choice of alpha protective, tall, dark, handsome, good guys with a streak of bad boy heroes, and I’m always all in to see them get a HEA with their leading lady love.

Just know I absolutely loved pretty much everything about this storyline, even the scary, dark, upsetting at times, life-threatening drama. Mainly because it felt realistic. Having been in an engaging mafia read drought for some time, I’m still riding a buzz from finally scoring such a great one.
The thing between us romance readers is we are all know we have our own individual set of preferences in our romantic reads. So here’s a heads up. The early ARC version I read has a scenario that may bother some of you. I can't help but hope she deletes that set-up altogether and goes with something else entirely.
For me, Sarah Curtis’s writing style seems to be a good fit. Her writing flows seamlessly, and I stay engaged to the very end. But be warned, she adds a fair share of some very graphic, hot, steamy/smexy scenes.
This book is a spin-off of Ms. Curtis’s The Gamblers series. Though it isn’t necessary to read any of them to enjoy this book, I highly recommend those books, as well.

I feel like I have to bump my “favorite” male lead after every Sarah Curtis book I read, and this book is no exception. I’m not sure how the next man can top Marco, since Marco is the perfect blend of caring and bad-boy in a fantastic package. He’s funny, sweet, dangerous, and manages to be a bad-a** without owning a single pair of jeans!
Gabby has been in love with Marco for years and, while she’s pretty sure that they’ll never be anything to each other because he’s the employee/best friend of her brother, Nico, she can’t just turn her heart off and ignore or forget him. She tries to distract herself with another man, who she doesn’t really feel anything for, but that ends badly when he proves to be someone completely different than who he’d claimed. Marco comes to the rescue, and decides that it’s time to step up and admit what he’s felt for Gabby for years. So begins Marco’s journey to handing Gabby the keys to his heart without upsetting the Family he’s made in his life.
As Gabby and Marco make their way to “us” with spectacularly failed dates and humor, suspense and drama abound, with worry and fear along for the ride. These two manage to make their way through it all relatively unscathed, and find their HEA in a beautiful manner.
I’d recommend this book to anyone looking for some dark alongside their light along the road to forever love. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

This is not a dark romance, the Contis are 'good guy' mafia types (it is a romance) pitted against the bad-guy Russian mafia types. Once the reader buys into that reality, Gabby and Marco are interesting and consistent, their love story enjoyable, and there is sufficient action/suspense interspersed with the smexy to keep it all moving. Some of the romantic moments get a little cheesy, but not enough to spoil the read.

I've been waiting for Gabby's story since reading her older brother, Nico and Olivia's story, "Bad Beat: The Gamblers Series Book 2". I thought I would never read it but like always, one of our favorite authors' always has a surprise up her sleeve ;) and she gave us not only Gabby's story but her hot, dominant, dark and sexy man, Marco, Nico's best friend of ten years as her main man, her only love and the man she's loved for years and vice versa...
What these two have been holding inside for one another was so intense, so much heat and so much longing and love for one another that I admire each of their strength to be able to hold their true feelings away from one another. It can't be an easy feat to do but they did; Gabby rejected once and hurt, feared to be hurt again; Marco, loyalty to Nico and thinking that he wasn't good enough for his angel, his light, his beautiful and innocent Gabby... well , let's just say that our Gabby finally grabs the bull by its horns and forces it to face his feelings and see hers and when it did happen, it was hot ;), beautiful, steamy, intense, but also with that other circumstances came into the story, like family war... don't worry guys, not between each other but I can't spoil it for you guys so go read this story because it has everything you want in an incredible book;it has angst scenes, emotional scenes, passionate scenes, suspenseful scenes, extreme hot alpha badasses surrounding their territory ;), love revelations and declarations , decisions to be made (that in my opinion, weren't hard for me to choose but that's because I'm bloodthirsty and Marco thirsty too ;) a united family front, loyalty within THE FAMILY, but above all else, it had an absolutely AWESOME HAPPILY EVER AFTER FOR EVERYONE!! <3 <3

With her seamlessly flowing narrative; witty dialogue; and her strong, sexy, protective, and possessive hero, Sarah Curtis held me captive.

I adored their banter and Dialogues. Really everything about this book keeps you captured.

First off I have to thank Sarah Curtis for giving me a chance, especially as a newbie, to be a part of her ARC team. My honest opinion is that I loved this book! The unrequited love trope is definitely a favorite of mine so this fit right up my alley. I especially enjoy when one side believe that it is not reciprocated but is far from the truth.
Gabby Conti has been in love with Marco for the past 10 years; it may have started off as a crush but as the years went by it became so much more. But now at 22 she has finally decided it was time to let it go, let Marco go. She knew Marco would never reciprocate her feelings so when an opportunity to begin her life without Marco was presented to her, she took it. She decided to accept a date from a fellow student, even though she did not feel the same spark but what did she know? She had been sheltered all her life and it just didn’t feel right with anyone other than Marco, but she was moving on. Despite being warned by Marco to not continue seeing Derek, Gabby sneaks out. Unfortunately that date came with dire consequences. Marco comes to the rescue and so begins of Marco finally letting go of all the reasons to stay away from Gabby.
Marco had a difficult childhood, he feels he was saved by Nico, Gabby’s brother, and their family so he owes his loyalty and to not sully Gabby’s life. So he tamped down his desire for her and protected her from afar. But once she was kidnapped all bets were off. Once Gabby gives herself to him, he was never letting her go. As for Gabby, as sheltered as she has been, she is not naive to not know what her family business is. She has the Conti strength and it definitely shows throughout her ordeal.
Now what causes Marco to stop denying his feelings for Gabby is far from funny, but once he decides to pursue her, the results are hot and hilarious. Their attempt to normal dates and enacting the three date rule before going any further was really cute. Their lives are considered more on the dark side but these snippets of their dates were light-hearted (or some not so light-hearted lol) and sweet.
As the story goes on, the reasons for Gabby’s kidnapping resurfaces, but it is resolved quickly and brutally. However, once they got their HEA, it was done beautifully. I loved everything about this book and that epilogue was awesome. Definitely a must read.
And lastly that poem, talk about heart melting!

I am not a big fan of mafia stories but this one was very enjoyable. Both characters were likeable and well developed. Gabby was a good heroine, she had a spine and a lot of spunk. I also respected Marco’s celibacy, he knew what he wanted and wasn’t going to settle for less. This story is safe and there is very little op drama. This to me was a good, sweet and very sexy story!
I am not a big fan of mafia stories but this one was very enjoyable. Both characters were likeable and well developed. Gabby was a good heroine, she had a spine and a lot of spunk. I also respected Marco’s celibacy, he knew what he wanted and wasn’t going to settle for less. This story is safe and there is very little op drama. There was nothing I didn’t love about this book!!
I have been looking forward to another book Sarah Curtis and you did not disappoint.
Marco and Gabriella have been secretly in love with each other for years. She doesn’t think he feels the same for her, and he is worried Nico won’t approve. So they both try to avoid each other as much as possible. After a major event takes place Marco can’t hold back anymore... not for lack of trying. He did try but the pull to her became to much. Marco was so protective, I loved it!
When do I get another one?
