WITHIN THE HOLLOW CROWN

The Yeagerists are in all-out revolt, fighting to dismantle military rule before the potential for world war explodes into certain doom. Meanwhile, deep in the forest, the sides' most ruthless, fanatical killers are locked in single combat, but triumph is elusive where Titans are involved...

This volume was super action packed and intense. I loved the pacing and the moral dilemmas in this volume. I can't wait to read the next volume soon.

I'm so close to being done with this series but I saw spoilers for two major characters that die and I don't know if my heart can handle the next volumes.

CHAPTER 119: EXCUSE ME??????????? W H A T DID JUST HAPPEN???
Is it over??? will we even find out what side he was really on now??? 🤯
DUDE, I cannot wait to find out how it all ends. Everything is up in the air yet again. And, tbh, I don’t see myself being satisfied by the endgame....We’ll see.

Update: NEVER MIND. I just read one AMAZING fan theory on the internet and, if it turns out to be right (which, I’m 95% convinced it will) Attack on Titan would have one of the best endings in the history of manga, hands down.

"Eren is leading us all straight into hell. A real piece of shit, that guy. And that bastard.... I envied him. Because he was so damn cool... It irritates me to no end, but I don't want that guy to die yet."

*4,5 stars

I feel like the end is near. This volume had some serious Gabi and Mikasa character development. Armin is as bright as ever, and who knows what Eren is doing.

Who would've guessed, that the story of an idealistic boy killing titans to survive would not only evolve into this absolute mindfuck it is right now - but also become one of my favourite stories of all time?

Well, definitely not me.

Despite being confused af when the truth was revealed in the anime, I love the direction this series took. The character development is so great because it's believable. This is what war does to people. So by now, for me, Attack on Titan basically mirrors the human race and it's just so painfully accurate.
Oh, and I can't wait for the 2nd half of season 4 to drop. It's going to be insane.

This was such a great book! This is the culmination of all thats going on, Marleyan soldiers attack Eldia with all the soldiers and so its upto Eren to defeat them and its epic how he manages to singlehandedly defeat them or try to fight them, meanwhile we have the after effects of whats going on with the imprisoned as we learn of the Euthanisation plan and how they dont want future children for eldian people, but now that they are here, even though they hate Eren they have to defeat him and then something happens as Zeke also comes to the rescue but will the two brothers finally meet or opposition will be there for them all around? The scale of the story is getting epic by the second and just wow! The art especially the titan sequences are amazing, so well drawn and just the setup!!!

“… You’ve… started to resemble our father a bit.”

My goodness, my emotions can take just so much and they have been severely battered.

I thoroughly love how things are turning out and where the story is going. Even if it's really hard as well. But, hey, this is not supposed to be a happy story, it truly never has been, and that is just how things are.

As action-packed as everything is right now there is so much depth and heart in it all and it just about my favorite combination.

“The great threat of the Titans… their history of blood and tears… there exist men who can put an end to it all. Who knows how many more millennia there will be in human history… but will there ever appear those who accomplish a grand feat on such a level? Those brothers will be spoken of as symbols for thousands of years to come. Just like we speak of ancient gods. Even after their deaths, they will be as suns, saviors illuminating the rest of humanity…”

One of the things I love most in a story is for it to introduce complicated, multi-faceted, and broad issues that require deep thought in order to be understood and, man, there is so much of that in this manga is crazy.

If the last couple of volumes were hitting me in the feelings this one just drove a spike through my heart and delivered what is now one of my favorite moments I've ever read because of the, truly wonderful, character development that we are presented with. Seriously, it's gorgeous. And it's coming from a character that has earned the hard realization.

It's a moment that feels like the tip of the iceberg and the right step to take. I'm not sure how impactful it can be on the grand scale of things but it is beyond satisfying to see.

Even through the action, we don't lose those deep thoughts, and I love that.

“Eren. We’re going… to save everyone.”

The mystery is still going on because Eren's plan is still not clear - though I have many theories going on at the moment over that - and it makes everything, well, more complicated because I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO HOPE FOR.

It's fun. Truly, these action scenes are great. Fast, high-stake, creepy and worrisome, can I ask for more? I doubt it.

My heart was constantly beating through my chest and I could feel every ounce of anxiety in my body activating in my body. Hair-raising is a good description for it all. And the good mix of the darker topics with it all, well, I wouldn't say it's too healthy.

“If Eldians had never been born… none of the residents of this city would have to die as collateral damage in the plan we’re about to carry out. There would’ve been no suffering. No death. Never having to be born in this world… is the greatest salvation of all.”

No habían demonios en esta isla. Solo humanos

De los últimos que he leído este ha sido, sin duda, uno de los mejores volúmenes. Todo lo que sucede es interesante y ese final solo da indicaciones de que lo mejor está por comenzar.

3.5☆ Review:

While a lot happened in this volume, I found it to be kinda boring? Which is weird considering how much action was in it. Though, it was still a great read.

P.S. Yelena is crazy.

Yeah yeah yeahhhhh I’m the white dorky college student who watches Attack on Titan, I apologize 😔

But a not-so-quick story about that! Before this year, I had little-to-no interest in anime or manga, really; I felt like I could appreciate those media from a distance, but always felt a personal emotional disconnect from anime, which made me not want to read manga either, unfortunately. Fortunately though, one of my apartment-mates this last year is BIG into anime and manga, and he spent a good portion of this last year converting me and my pals into anime fans; it succeeded.

I think my negative connotations of anime/manga are due solely to people I know who almost exclusively watch/read them, and are just not very savory characters? It was illogical, but essentially I was thinking, “If I like anime, I’m closer to a misogynistic, kinda self-absorbed, definitely racist and problematic type of person, and I don’t wanna be that way;” this is, of course, an unfair characterization of people who enjoy these media, but it’s an idea that was put in my head toooooo long ago and I’m just now overcoming, because there is SUCH beauty, power, insight, innovation, and sheer awesome creativity in so much of the anime I’ve watched in the last few months; I’m very grateful to my friend Josh for showing me the error of my ways 😌

Anyways though, this isn’t a review of anime as a whole, or Jujustu Kaisen, Death Note, Princess Mononoke, etc., but this specific volume of Attack on Titan! Which is really just my way of sharing my love for the show and the story thus far; the reason I’m starting this on vol. 29 is because I binge-watched the entire anime up to where it is in the manga, and the previous season (well, half-season; the second half, which will be the final half-season of the show as a whole, comes out in a little less than a year, I think) ends halfway through this volume. And I couldn’t wait for the anime to see what happens next, so I downloaded this bad boy!

I’m not gonna do anything to spoil the story here; Attack on Titan is too full, rich, and packed with surprises for me to feel like a good person doing that. I will say that the reason I got so into AoT to begin with is not just some of the most incredibly choreographed action I’ve ever seen animated, but that I have rarely seen a group of characters so wonderfully developed, causing such genuine attachment, nor a story that starts so simple (big spooky monsters are coming to eat humankind and humankind must stop them!) turn into something so incredibly thought-provoking, timely, and significant. The themes this show/manga explore—the behavior of people with inordinate power, choices made in service of the greater good or personal attachment, humankind’s natural tendency to ostracize groups dissimilar to them and cause division/war, the relationship between freedom and responsibility, and, most importantly, the way a dominant cultural narrative can so fully impact an individual to where they’d be willing to commit unspeakable crimes in the service of what those in power have told them is good—are probably the most profound I’ve seen in a TV show? This has more cultural, political, ethical significance than Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad, and richer themes and ideas to chew on and struggle with. It’s masterful. And it only gets more and more layered, nuanced, and difficult as the story continues, which is so so impressive.

So yeah! Thanks for listening to my rant on Attack on Titan being one of the most culturally significant pieces of art (that I’m aware of) in the last couple of decades; I’m completely infatuated with it. Oh, and based on this volume? The next half-season is gonna start with some INCREDIBLE episodes—real nail-biters if ever there were some. And I can’t wait to see that happen :-)

Major Spoilers ahead!!!

This is were the finale of s4 part 1 left of and since I don't wanna risk getting spoiled everything till december, I decided to catch up on the manga.

The opening scene is the same one as ep16, except we actually get to see hanji finding levi and zeke. Levi looks pretty bad and is pronounced dead by hanji (wers glaubt lmao) but Zeke's body is not for the faint hearted, the manga really doesn't censor ANYTHING

Halfway through new stuff starts happening and we get an epic battle between Reiner, Eren, Porco and Pieck. Looking very much forward to seeing this animated, hopefully Mappa won't disappoint.

I knew Onyankopon could be trusted, that man has nothing but good vibes.

There's one panel of Yelena that will haunt me on my dreams.

Falco is too precious for this world and I really really hope he makes it
