With stories of fast cars, wet matches, pastors, airline pilots and celebrities, this is not your average "church" message on freedom from porn...but it certainly should be! Today, even big-time Christian pastors like Brian Houston, Ravi Zacharias, Bill Hybels, Carl Lentz and countless others are being found out in sexual sin. In UNMUZZLED, J.S. Shelton tackles a gut-punching message and boldly calls all men to go ALL-IN with God. No more tactics, this is raw truth with real direction.
Is pornography a reoccurring struggle in your life? Are you a Christian, but continue to struggle with sexual temptation and lust? Are you sexually active, but not married?Have you committed adultery, but cannot fathom confessing it? Are you someone who has tried everything, but still struggle sexually? What if sexual sin is holding you hostage from God's appointed destiny for your life?
This message will quickly show ✓ How to actually conquer sexual temptation✓ How to recognize God's presence in your struggle✓ How to cut things out of your life that cause you to stumble✓ How to confess sin and eradicate strongholds in your life✓ Finally, how to be used by God to help others
Whether it is pornography, masturbation, fornication, same-sex attraction, adultery, or lust in general...sexual sin is restraining men (and women more than ever now) all over the world. Why is it that hundreds of books have been written, thousands of sermons preached, and millions of prayers prayed against sexual immorality...but instead of witnessing an uprising, we are tolerating a backsliding.Get ready to drop Hell's most celebrated sin in your life! This muzzling grip is hell-bent on preventing you from reaching all God has for you. Unmuzzled is a time-sensitive message written specifically to men who call themselves Christians.
I’m shocked this book is flying under the radar. Every pastor who is actually reading the Bible should be asking every man to read this...seriously. As a man who has carried a lot of hidden sin in my life, this is the first book that has opened my eyes AND the first book that has shown me and actual path forward. Most books / messages basically say you need to be “healed” or “set free.” The message of this book actually tells us what the Bible says. Simple, but amazing and conquering truth.
Men, Satan does not want you to read this book. No doubt, the Spirit has brought you here but your flesh is already coming up with reasons not to read it. First of all, I agree with others that every Christian man must read this book. Shelton pulls no punches but he clearly spells out how to rely on God for true victory. Your flesh will want to stop reading but your Spirit won't let you. It's like water to the parched ground - your spirit will lap it up. Get the book, read it, walk in victory. I've purchased additional copies to give to my future son-in-law and oldest son and will be teaching the truths in it to my youngest son.
If you are a man serious about your marriage or a young man wanting someday to me married, UNMUZZLED is a must read. This book will make you uncomfortable as Shelton lays out the pitfalls that trap men, yes even Godly men, in the temptation of sexual sin. Sexual sin is the one sin men should run away from. As the author identifies, when you are approaching sexual sin, God will provide you an escape hatch, look for it. Men, it’s time we Man Up and keep our sexual energy solidly within our marriages and be the husbands and fathers that God intended us to be.
Of all the books I've read on conquering sexual sin, this one is by far the best on the topic.
Shelton cuts through the usual cycle of accountability strategies or milquetoast spirituality. He sounds strong warnings and describes the Bible's way of Stay Away, Flee, and Escape (SAFE).
It's difficult to detail exactly what about this book clicked so much. But you'll just have to read and find out for yourself.
Shelton brings heaven-sent revelation in this page-turning guide to overcoming temptation and pornography. He gives specifics on proven strategies that are directly from the Bible. Shelton shares how Jesus supernaturally intervenes in our lives to help deliver us.
Don’t “stay away” from this book, pick it up and see how the Lord will change your life through it.
I can’t believe I’m the first to rate this on goodreads! I’ve read most of the books out on freedom from porn, sexual son, etc. This book surpasses them all. Finally, a book that actually shows you how to conquer or “stay away” from falling into temptation! Highly recommend. Well written and easy to read. Scott.
Fantastic. Eye-opening and absolutely on-point. If men get ahold of the truth Shelton sheds light on in this book, it could change the world. Highly recommend every man to read. Easy, quick, page-turning read too.
If you are serious about living a life pleasing to the Lord, then this book will put you on a path to find freedom. This book is NOT for the faint of heart or for those looking gloss over their relationship with Jesus. Seek the Lord while He may be found!
While the topic of this book is much needed a few things stood out to me that kept me from being able to give this book more stars. 1) Many verses were taken out of context. Just on example: Jeremiah 29:11 is a promise from God to Israel as they are about to go into captivity. A promise from God to Israel, His people, - not an individual promise to every person on planet earth. 2) Throughout the whole book are stories of the author receiving visions to, somewhat randomly, ask guys if they are addicted to porn. Do we need accountability in the church? Yes. But this way of keeping each other accountable seemed to be one guy asking another guy if he being unfaithful to his wife randomly one day, not a commitment to each other as brothers in the Lord that lasts for years. I don't think that this book presents a biblical model of discipleship or accountability. 3) He mentions that other books about pornography are all about things that don't work (i.e. buy a filter for your computer) they only mask the problem. And while I understand where he is coming from, there are books on this topic that are well written and helpful. So the things in the book that were good, were not new, others have written about this topic well. 4) I felt like the overall attitude of the book was trying to scare men. Don't look at pornography on your phone because it has the potential to ruin your life. And while that might work, and maybe even be a needed reminder, I didn't feel like the author pointed the reader to the beauty and grandeur of Jesus. We don't have to give into the sexual temptations of our day because we have something better, not because we might get caught.
Again, a topic that we (the church) need to do better with. The author gave numerous stats about how the church has just as many people addicted to internet pornography as those outside the church. And while I may not recommend this book to others, I do hope that the book makes a difference in the lives of those who do read it .
J.S. Shelton passionately writes about the danger of pornography and how to battle sexual temptation in very practical ways. He uses the concept of a "muzzle" on a dog which is a picture of what happens to men who are drawn into pornography - they can't speak about it (no bark), they can't stand against it (no bite), they can't defend themselves and therefore fall victim.
His answer is the acronym SAFE - stay away, flee, escape. His emphasis is especially on the "escape" part of this which means praying and watching for God giving you a way out through his sovereign action (someone calls, the DVD or computer stops working, etc.). The first two methods of avoiding porn is not so different than Afterburn's books.
Shelton has a section towards the end of the book warning us about the danger of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality and how the porn industry is using these methods with great success to draw men in.
I greatly appreciated the passion for this subject that the author clearly has based on his own experiences and ministry with others. It is definitely a topic that needs to be talked about and faced among Christian men as it is so often taboo or just ignored. His use of pictures was powerful throughout the book - the "sex switch" was powerful for example. This is a book for men and the stories and illustrations will speak powerfully to most men.
Shelton's theology is clearly charismatic/Pentecostal which comes through strongly as he emphasizes his gift as a prophet and his "visions" which drive what he says and does. Non-charismatic believers might struggle with this emphasis on prophesy and I think he could have written the book without using that terminology and so reach more men. But all in all, I was very blessed by this book and will encourage other men I know to read it and use the armor God has given us!
The way i got this book is a testimony in it of itself. It showed me God is really chasing after us and completely restored my faith. This book is filled with cold hard truths that many men today want to ignore or pretend are no big deal. This book will hit you hard, but it will truly give you the path to have true freedom. It's just a matter if you are willing to execute and implement it. Every man should read this book and start to truly live it, and they should do it immediately! I will be getting copies for other men in my life and once you read it, you will want to do the same.
I've been, and still am a missionary. Reading this book has opened and helped my eyes see clearer that satan wants me muzzled in our ministry, from this day forth after reading this may I put this in practice and be finally be free so God can use all of me in my Love and Service to Him, Thanks J.S for God for helping you write this book to people like me and millions others who are hiding and not letting God use us 100 percent God bless to all see you all one day in eternity. This is a book that Satan does not want you to read. It reveals the truth of sexual sins and how it gets men to be quiet about it and be muzzled. Using a lot of scripture, he shows how God makes a way for men to overcome this sin and never be muzzled or go back to it again. In each chapter he challenges one on what to do next to overcome this sin. I highly recommend it whether for yourself or to help someone else.
Jeremy has been a friend for several years. I've bought at least four vehicles from him, and he served as my spiritual mentor when I was about to start going through my divorce. If I had done what he says to do in this book, things may have turned out differently.
