Darryl was born, educated and spent the first chapter of his working life in Queensland, Australia. He was raised and educated on the Gold Coast but his education was cut short – by him, due to the sheer boredom of it – and at the age of 15 he left to work on a milk run. He went on to work as a window cleaner, cocktail barman, wine waiter, clerk, car salesman and a guitarist/backing singer in a rather hopeless rock band. Eventually, he got his act together, studied Law and at 28 owned his own law firm in Queensland’s far north. After nine years in the tropics he became bored with constant blue skies, gently swaying coconut palms and scuba-diving on the Great Barrier Reef, so he sold up and moved with his family to London. He practised there for twenty years specialising in commercial litigation, mostly at partner level in the City. In 2004 he returned to Queensland and now lives with his daughter in the Gold Coast hinterland.
As an author, Darryl has written in his spare time for as long as he can remember. Prior to his focussing on novels, he had a respectable number of paid articles published in British and international magazines. In 2009 he self-published his novel "The Election," a political thriller. In 2012 he won a competition with one of his other manuscripts "Calvus," and this led to a publishing contract with Morris Publishing Australia. With the demise of that publisher he has re-published that title himself.
Following another successful competition win, Darryl signed contracts with Custom Book Publications for the publication of three of his novels. "Agnus Dei," a legal thriller was published in February 2014, "Sleeping With Angels", another legal thriller followed in November 2014 and "A Dragon In The Snow" in October 2015. "Bounty" was published on 10 July 2019. In a departure from writing novels, Darryl published his memoir "...Passing Through..." in 2020. In June 2023, Darryl published "Zeno" a sequel to his novel, "Calvus" published in 2011. You can check out Darryl's articles on Substack: https://darrylgreer.substack.com

I am relatively unfamiliar with the thriller/spy thriller genre. If the criteria for an effective thriller is good vs. bad, rising head count, double agents, plot twists and wanting to rush through to the end to see who survives, then ‘Bounty’ ticks all the boxes. Darryl Greer is another of those contemporary Goodreads authors who continue to delight and surprise me. And he's an Australian author to boot! We need to get behind them when we have breaks from the best sellers. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
“Bounty” is a thriller set in the context of the turmoil in Lebanon and shows how this intractable conflict and the ensuing instability can impact even far-away peaceful places like Australia. After losing his mother in a terrorist attack in a remote corner of Lebanon, young Jabir Sarkis resolves to join the army and try to bring peace to his land. With the help of rich relatives he starts university in Beirut, even as in far-away Australia an Israeli politician giving a lecture is poisoned with radioactive material and the pro-Israeli Prime Minister is assassinated. An outraged Aussie government offers an AUD20 million bounty for anyone who assists in bringing the assassin to justice. Borak al-Balawi, the assassin, a Hezbollah-linked professor in Sydney disguises his appearance and escapes back to Lebanon where he is secured a position at the University. Jabir, who dreams of a better life with his love, the beautiful fellow-student Rihana, recognizes the culprit from the bounty notice and identifies him to the Australian authorities. As well as a large portion of the offered bounty, they grant Jabir and his father visas to get them away from the revenge-seeking hands of Hezbollah. Borak is ordered to follow and take care of the problem that Jabir will expose the Hezbollah link by executing him too. The forces of terrorism, justice and peace come together in an exciting climax and conclusion in Australia.
Darryl Greer has written a masterfully plotted novel against the background of one of today’s most intractable problems: the continued instability in the Middle East. His characters are well-crafted and suited for their roles. The writing is strong. This is a book that is hard to put down and deserves to be read both for the suspenseful plot and the light it throws on the poignant issues of the Middle East. Well-done!
clever, interesting and intriguing thriller. it all start with the murder of the PM of Australia and an Israeli VIP visiting there who for long time was connected with war against terror in the northern part of Israel But the main story, and quite suprising , are two Arab Moslems whose lives clashes and roam between Lebanon and Australia. the amount of research done here is quite amazing and Greer is handling it without too much burden and with sure hand. it is not only a story of right and wrong, evil versus good, but a very deep glimpse into the lives in this turbulent part of the world, the middle east with all it endless complexities. choosing a positive Moslem hero is quite a challenge and Greer built a nice real foundation for his main character and it is done with sensitivity and real warmth. some small flaws which made me wonder and smile- if the writer is an history teacher. but of course it is done for the benefit of the reader who don't follow this real long and sad conflict. As an Israeli writer it was a fascinating read.
Bounty by Darryl Greer is packed with suspense, thrills, and intrigue.
Jabir Sarkis lost his Mother at a young age when terrorists kill her in an attack on Lebanon. He swears one day he will stop them, and shockingly he does... just not in the way he imagines. Many years later, into his adulthood, terrorists have killed an Israeli diplomat and the Australian prime minister. A bounty is put up for twenty million dollars and a permanent visa. Jabir identifies the assassin, and is thrilled to get out of the war zone he's been living in. Unfortunately, only his Father agreed to go with him. His girlfriend stayed behind, and those terrorists kidnap her to torture Jabir...
This book is WILD. I binged the book and absolutely loved every second of it. The plotting, the characters who make you FEEL, the character development, the thrills and suspense... It all works together quite well. Darryl Greer is an author to look out for, especially if you love political or international thrillers.
Five out of five stars.
I received this book for free from the author Darryl Greer, in exchange for an honest review.
War, poverty, dreams, ambitions, love, hate, corruption, right and wrong – these are the words I can think of to best represent the Bounty by Darryl Greer.
This suspense thriller novel revolves around a young Muslim boy, Jabir Sarkis, who at a young age has lost his mother as a result of the conflicts of the militants versus the Lebanon government. As a young boy he dreamt of joining the army, the Lebanese Armed Forces, not just to protect Lebanon’s citizens against the militants but also to permanently support his family financially. But growing up, his interests changed from joining the army into leaving the country altogether.
What I like most about the book is the author’s characterization of Jabir Sarkis. The author developed the character of Sarkis. Until the ever end, you will remember how determined an individual he is. Sarkis does not stop at anything nor did he lose hope in fulfilling his dream. I would recommend this book to those seeking excitement in the books they read.
I rate 5 stars to Darryl Greer’s Bounty. Well done!
Darryl Greer’s, Bounty is an ambitious thrill ride of international intrigue and human drama that kept me engaged throughout the story. Ping-ponging back and forth between Lebanon and Australia, with a little bit of Israel as well, Greer’s obvious knowledge of the workings of Hezbollah and the security operations of Australia creates an exciting blend of devious planning, murder, and the all out search to bring terrorist criminals to justice. In addition to an exciting story, Greer’s characters are very well developed and as an added bonus, geographical descriptions of Lebanon and Australia are a welcome backdrop for the reader’s imagination. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
I really enjoyed reading Bounty written by Darryl Greer. I have read all Darryl’s novels and enjoyed them all, Bounty is no different, with the plot keeping me interested to the end. Like his other novels this is obviously very well researched. This is my first ever review, and I’m glad I have chosen Darryl Greer’s Bounty for my debut. Cant wait for the next novel to be released!!
Bounty brings the political and turmoil of Lebanon to Australia. It is a well-crafted thriller, which draws on the full toolbox of the genre. Suspenseful, well researched and replete with villains you can really hate, the novel will appeal to thriller aficionados. While I didn't agree with the depiction of the politics of the region, as a piece of fiction, Bounty offers good entertainment value and the potential for adaptation as a good action-packed film.
