Bluey is a 6 year old Blue Heeler pup who loves to play. Her parents and teacher give her lots of time to practice, which means she’s become very good at inventing games, helping everyone choose their roles and deciding on the rules. Her favourite games are ones that involve lots of other kids and grown-ups (especially her dad) and she mainly likes to pretend she’s a grown up doing grownup things herself.

Bluey is an Australian children's television program by the Emmy award-winning Ludo Studio for ABC KIDS and is co-commissioned by ABC Children's and BBC Studios.

I too wish I could be a fruit bat sometimes.

Honestly one of my favorite things about bluey is the fact that it is actually portraying parents as REAL people (dogs, in this case. But you know what I mean).
People with feelings, interests, hobbies, and LIVES!
People that love their kids, but sometimes miss certain aspects of what used to be.

Media could use more of this.

É muito divertido, a minha parte preferida é quando a Bluey tenta dormir, come muita fruta e encontra o pai dela a jogar com os seus amigos

Bluey as a Fruit Bat was a cute story idea especially since she didn't want to go to bed but then does..
I love how Bluey feels for her dad not being able to play footie anymore as he has to work and look after his two daughters. Beautiful message once again.

I read this to my 3 year old niece and she seemed to enjoy it. Also I needed one more book to hit my reading target for the year so there you go.

Again Noah enjoys it, but personally I prefer the far more emotive TV version.

I was on a bats and pirates roll with my niece. Mostly because there was a super cute bat plushie I wanted to get her and we made her bed into a pirate ship and played pirates. It was super fun. I wanted to leave her with some books until our next visit.

When I was reading this book, I was actively comparing it to the show itself because I thought it would help me be able to review this book even better. I just found out today that they adapted the episodes to read to children before bed.
I would much rather watch the episodes, just as most kids would prefer to do, but the adaption to bedtime stories for children is absolutely perfect for young readers. Although this wasn't a long book, it portrayed its meaning in 24 pages regardless. Even though children won't quite get that underlying meaning of this book until they're older, parents immediately understand that this book is about the sacrifices parents make for their children so they can be actively in their lives during the fundamental parts of their childhood. Bluey's character is a simple one to understand, she was one of those kids either we knew or were ourselves: never wanted to sleep, never wanted a bedtime, high energy...etc. Her sister is obedient and went to bed but instead Bluey puts up a fight and insists on staying awake as well as being a fruit bat.
During the story, Bluey stumbles upon her father laying on the floor. Her mom tells her that Bandit is dreaming about playing touch football like he used to before the kids were born and having to invest a lot of time into them during the vital stages of development. After watching her father for a moment, Bluey has an epiphany of being able to dream about being a fruit bat while she's asleep--meaning she can get what she wants and her parents can get her to sleep as well.
During her dream, she's flying amongst her fruit bat friends and passing by windows of her school friends until she hears a familiar voice in the distance. She flies over to her dad and observes him playing touch football, like he was dreaming about earlier. During this portion of the book, I believe she's coming to the realization of how much Bandit gives in order to play an active role in her and her sister's (Bingo) lives. Once she wakes up, she comes to find and wonder why her dad never complains about not being able to do things that he used to be able to do more before the kids entered the picture. Bluey goes downstairs to find her father doing sit ups in order to stay in shape for whenever the next time he can play touch football again, she knew what she had to do. She walked over to him and told him thank you for looking after them. When you're a parent, you never expect to be told thank you or any sort of gratitude from your kids that are of a younger age and I think the show itself helps parents and children realize that even though it's not ever said, your kids are truly grateful for all you've given just so they can live comfortably.

In Bluey : Fruit Bat we have many of the same features that made Bluey: The Beach such a hit – bold, vibrant cartoon illustrations placed against equally bold backgrounds, featuring the much loved Bluey characters from the hit children’s television series -, this book pushes the boundaries that little bit more by incorporating glow-in-the-dark elements.

By using clusters of stars and the broken lines as glow in the dark elements, Bluey: Fruit Bat has added another layer to board books that I don’t think previously existed. (At least, I can’t recall glowing elements being used since The Not So Scary Ghost paperback from MY childhood). With the glowing elements being raised slightly, it gives the book a tactical element that has proven endlessly popular with the That’s Not My series, but it’s also added an additional layer of light and surprise. Although we know the book features glow-in-the-dark elements from the cover, its still kind of surprising and fun to find it mixed through the story. It’s sure to have kids ohh-ing and ahh-ing as they giggle with delight when the story transforms before their very eyes.

In terms of the narrative, Bluey: Fruit Bat is a sweet tale about the power of one’s imagination. About families, dreams, responsibilities and possibilities. It’s a fun, quirky, and imaginative tale about what it would be like if Bluey didn’t have to go to bed a night and instead, she was a fruit bat. Full of adventure and endless possibility its a feel good story that is sure to enthrall.

What I think I like the most about the Bluey books is the way their messages aren’t necessarily subtle, but they are never preachy or judgmental in tone. The narratives are gentle, fun-loving and warm. Promoting good old-fashioned family fun, in a modern environment.

In my experience as a bookseller, I find it’s this Bluey book that is often overlooked out of the three original books released*. The beach is fun, an obvious hit for Australians during Summer, while Fruit Bats are a bit more mysterious and other. Out of the two board books though, I thoroughly enjoined this one and wished more readers would pick it up. It’s an underrated gem, that needs so much more appreciation and love!

*note: this book is still incredible popular, it’s just an underrated gem compared to the other two.

Bluey is one of the latest kid show crazes and I can see why! It is too cute, and this book carries over the same style of cute as is seen in the show. Bluey decides she wants to be a fruit bat when she learns that they don’t have to go to sleep at night because they are “‘octurnal.” But then she is reminded of all the fun routines she has with her dad before bedtime that bats don’t have. She also learns that her dad dreams about playing football sometimes because he doesn’t get to play as much anymore so he can take care of the kids. Bluey dreams that she is a bat while her dad places football and wakes up grateful for all her dad does for them.

I love Bluey so much but this book was not nearly as good as the show. It summarized the episode pretty well from what I remembered but it wasn’t nearly as funny because it cut out a lot of the funny stuff. It also didn’t get the lesson across as well as the tv show did that sometimes we all don’t get our way about everything and sometimes we have to give up things we want to do. It was still a cute book just not nearly as good as the tv show.

A tie-in book for the popular kids' cartoon "Bluey". The book captures the tone of the cartoon and the characters are brought to life on the page. Featuring familiar illustrations. I particularly like this storyline about how parents have to give up so much, even things they really enjoy doing, just to be parents, and they do so without complaining.

3 stars.

My family LOVES the Bluey series- the epitome of wholesome family entertainment. Bluey and Bingo have awesome parents and they inspire me to be a better parent. The stories are short and sweet, with an impressive slice-of-life quality to them, and I admire the simplicity of the lessons.

Another brilliant adaption of the Bluey episode it is based on.

Bluey learns all about fruit bats and decides that becoming one would be an excellent way to avoid going to bed!

It's hard to capture the charm of the show in a book, I think. (Not that my toddler cares, this is solely about me, haha.) This one does better than some of the other Bluey books, and is a good bedtime read.

Always heard of Bluey as an emosh book but reading the book for the first time, I can see the appeal. Bluey doesn’t want to go to bed (relatable to my three year old) and very sweetly, she realises her father sacrificed his dream of playing footy to be raise her.

Bluey book advent calendar day four!

This is one of my favourite episodes (as if I don't love them all) and I love how the narrative of this book focuses more on Bandit and how he gave up so many hobbies to look after Bluey and Bingo, and Bluey's gratitude towards that.

We love Bluey! This is a cute and simple book based on one of the Bluey episodes. I like how it allows the daughter to come up with a solution to her problem and how much it uses the imagination.

We finished reading and Oliver immediately said the book was missing something. He turned to the last page and said Mum is supposed to ask "Bluey are you hungry?" and Bluey says "No, I'm full!"

I had no idea this was an episode of the show and it's apparently missing Oliver's favorite line!!

Based on the kids' TV show. As far as kids' shows go, Bluey is one of my favourites. Miss Four loves this book and I've had to read it to her half a dozen times already.

Like the others is this series, it doesn't quite capture the charm of the tv episode, but there is glow in the dark, and my Bluey obsessed child consumes all things Bluey anyway.
