This book is a collection of stories from fifteen Catholic women and how they freed themselves from fear and shame. At the end of each story, there is a passage from scripture to reflect on, journaling questions and prayers. Unfortunately, most of these stories failed to resonate with me and I could not connect to any of them. However, other women may find this book valuable as a guide to healing from shame.
Thank you to Net Galley and Ave Maria Press for providing me with an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Catholic women tell in their own words their feelings of guilt, shame, not being good enough, etc. The book tells how they are able to overcome these feelings of shame and sin. The stories come from their heart. We as a reader are helping with our own healing process through bible verse, prayers and reflections. I will definitely be recommending this to my friends.

This book feels like having coffee at a kitchen table with women from various stages of life. Read through this one with a group of friends, and we loved talking about the four feminine identities of Daughter, Sister, Mother, and Bride. It’s a collection of reflections written by different women, and was perfect for a book club.
I’ve been on GoodReads for who knows how many years, but I’ve never left a review ~not one~ until now. I read this book after receiving it as a gift from Dorothy Wagner (one of the authors), and this book spoke to my heart unlike anything I’ve ever read. The formatting of the book goes through four different titles of the God-given identity of women: Daughter, Sister, Bride, and Mother. It dives into the wounds that we receive for each category and how it can be warped by society, each chapter ending with a small section for Lectio Divina. The identity sections then conclude with a “healing prayer“ to allow the Lord to fill the gaps that the book leaves so He can speak directly into the heart of each woman that reads it. I’m having a hard time gathering the words that I need to express how much I loved this book, but I did make a YouTube video with you that says all. (@Allex Noelle)
The Schuchts’ writing style is such a great mix of narrative and informative!!!!! These specific insights into being a sister, bride, daughter and mother are so so special to me and provided such rich opportunities to reflect on my story and the Lord’s goodness amidst the messy and healing parts of my femininity!!!!! Such a good dating fast read with really awesome resources and glory stories of redemption and restoration in the ever-tender heart of each woman. I am filled with hope in the face of my weaknesses after reading this!!! Thanks Abby Klare for the rec :,)
This book is so softly written. I can just hear a quiet, gentle voice narrating this from a heart that is open, honest and vulnerable. A heart that has been touched by the hand of Jesus and created into something beautiful.
I think a lot of people, including me, have struggled through sin and shame from that sin. This book gives great points to overcome, not let that sin define and be free from it all.
Definitely going to be suggesting this book to my friends who I think would enjoy it. I'll be reading it again too to soak in the spiritual reflections and meditation things she suggests.
A friend (hi Sarah) and I started buddy reading this last week. It was just what I needed, an excuse to video chat with my friend every couple of days to discuss the next section. My mental health was coming undone thinking about COVID-19, quarantining, social distancing, and being alone. I woke up in the middle of the night ruminating for hours about how the world was ending, and I was going to be alone for it.
I was able to pull myself out of the funk, mostly because that’s not a true statement, rather a statement of fear right from Satan himself. The book was okay. It’s a compilation of reflections from women categorized in four areas: Daughter, Sister, Bride, and Mother. Some were great, some were eye-rolly. They each ended with a scripture reflection followed by two questions. Each section was introduced and concluded by the author’s father, Bob with some questions for prayer.
I started by walking through them each very prayerfully, but after a while I skimmed them and moved on. The book was okay. Might be perfect for some women, but just not for me … and that’s okay. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Freedom from shame, knotted with sin, being afraid, fear and many more issues that women feel with all of our hearts and emotions. The book helps every woman to feel free from the feelings and emotions of our sins and shame. Each section titled as Daughters, sisters, brides and mothers written by women who went through certain issues and helps other women to get over the similar emotions and issues. As a reader we are helped with healing ourselves and with bible verse, prayers and reflections. I would recommend this book for any woman who needs help with healing of their hearts. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Ava Marie Press through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A gentle uncovering of the Father’s heart for us accompanied by a greater understanding of myself. Thought provoking. It was a great addition to my daily prayer. Invited me to bring lies / judgements I carry to the Lord and ask for greater understanding of His truth. I’d encourage you to read through slowly. And really pray through the readings. Sit and enjoy time with the Lord and the conversation this book will spark in you.

I loved it! Sadly, I did not even begin know how many knots and feelings of shame I had hidden in my heart until reading this book. I am beyond thankful that my eyes are now open and my heart can finally heal! Thank you, Undone, for you have opened my eyes and have truly changed my life!
Through women telling their stories of pain and healing this book looks at the four facets of being a woman: daughter, sister, spouse and mother. I really appreciated the stories. I didn’t get into the healing exercises but I see how they could be helpful!
This book was incredibly painful to read, but necessary. If you don't see yourself in any of the women represented, at a minimum you could gain a deeper understanding of someone else's trauma experience and become more compassionate.
Such beautiful stories form incredible women. Definitely read it slowly so you can pray through it. It’s for prayer versus consumption. Love the JPII Healing Center!
