America as we know it no longer exists. Greed has won out and those with money make all the rules. Those with power and money lord over those without. Those without have been forced into servitude and slavery. Civil rights no longer exist and the threat of war is constant.
Alyssia has been serving all her life. Stripped of her rights, citizenship and free will, she has never had anything to call her own. Still, she continues to survive refusing to let this world destroy her. But now she is about to be tested in a way she never has before. She's faced the greedy, the ignorant, even the vile but she always made it out. How does she adapt to coming face to face with evil?
Evil. Monster. Psycho. Donovan heard it all before. It no longer fazed him. He couldn't even say that it was entirely untrue. Donovan had made his peace with who he was and what he was years ago. He was a product of his upbringing. Being the son of one of the most hated and powerful men in the country had corrupted him in more ways than one. Now he used that darkness to make a name for himself.
Jealousy, corruption, and fate bring two people together who couldn't be more different. As the country burns around them they are forced to confront the darkest parts of themselves while trying to survive their circumstances and each other.

Prophetic

I can just imagine that if we stay the course...especially now.....America will be exactly what this book is about..not so far of as we think...this is slavery....misogynistic feelings....the idea that people think that because of biology....that they are better than other beautiful creations of God....a confluence of ignorance and bigotry mix with our obsession with all things war....so ..here comes a story of hope...atonement and acceptance..can't wait for the next installment..

Good read... but please more descriptive loves scenes!!

I enjoyed book but cannot help feeling let down by the lack of physical passion and description in respect of the only love scene. We waited, literally, the entire book, reading how the attraction built between the two, only for the love scene to be described in a line... seriously, I nearly missed it. This was the exact issue I had with the author's previous books. Sorry, but if you can be descriptive about the violence in the book, why not the love scenes? Most people want to read about the physical connection after investing so much time reading the build up.

I also have to say that I don't usually take issue with bad grammar, however, this books editing is really poor. The story is really good, which makes having random words in wrong place confusing and frustrating.

Overall, interesting read but needs more....hmmm.

Love this book!!!!

Very engaging read. Book can definitely leave you feeling so sorry towards both characters but that just has you rooting for them all the more. Book is a good commentary on recent events as well in an extreme way but the message is clear. The "hero" is a dark character but not to much. The relationship between him and and the heroine was very interesting. I liked how it slowly progressed from distrust to relying on one another in ways they've never imagined. Really liked this book, hope the next book is even better.

Great world building

Engrossing story, the heroine was smart, quick witted yet vulnerable.
Minor typos not too distracting from story.
The world the author created is rooted in reality and one can truly feel the desolation some of the characters are experiencing. Loved the building of the main characters relationship. Each one fulfilling the others unknown needs.
Looking forward to reading more about the Florida president.
Definitely looking for to next book.

Worth it even though needing some edits

This is a great story. I feel sorry for both main characters but I'm so happy they found joy in each other. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel. The only negative is that it needs some more editing. There are some grammar and spelling errors. But not enough to detract from the story.

great book

This was a good and unexpected surprise. This book contains many typos but yet kept my interest. Through everything the main characters went through they managed to keep fighting against evil. greedy people.

Great

This was a beautifully told story with great characters, and I just love how well-thought-out the whole thing was. Thanks

I love it

This is a different type of book and it was really good. Allyssa played her role and even has lowly non citizen she came out on top.
