Shingles #21

The Sober Slayers

Rate this book
Katie McCallister wants to slay dragons, save the kingdom, and become a hero but, time and again, all she finds around the gaming table are jerks telling dick jokes.

But then she and her friends discover a magic book, one that transports them into the game itself. Possessing the awesome powers of their characters, they set off to find a noble quest in need of mighty adventurers.

They’ll finally get a chance to become the champions they long to be ... or at least they would if this was a typical GameLit story. But you’re not reading one of those are you? No, because you’ve picked up a case of ... SHINGLES.

3.5 stars. This was ok. Felt more like a YA story, which is not of my particular interest, but was a fun ride. Who hasn't had the thought of being transported into a video game at some point? I've had a few dreams that thrust me in Super Mario World, which is more terrifying than you could imagine. And, of course, I always fell down a crevasse and felt the impact when I'd land. Aren't you supposed to wake up before landing?! Now that I think of it, I remember something about being trapped in Gears of War, too. That was a full blown nightmare. Anyway, this was just a simple, straightforward story with some enjoyable moments, but lacking the adult-themed substance that the Shingles series is known for. I still laugh every single time when each of these books name drops the strip club Hello Titty. Just one of those things that won't get old.
