Forbidden fruit always tastes that much sweeter…

He was mean.

Cold.

Beautiful.

But somehow charming to everyone else.

With Phoebe, his student? He was bitter and hard.

Until…

He was harder. Colder. Meaner

And she had no choice but to take everything he had to give.

A desperate act, Phoebe's tumble from grace, and a man waiting in the wings to watch her downfall.

The Professor is no hero. No charming knight. He’s a predator stalking his prey, and Phoebe, a college student struggling to get by, just walked into his crosshairs because even monsters have needs...

A standalone bully romance.

The mmc called her fat. Immediately no.

I tried, I really did. But this was just not working for me.

The writing wasn't flowing. The characters were one-dimensional. Their relationship and the growth of their feelings did not connect or seem right to me. The start of their whole relationship and the "blackmail" was stupid.

Even after all that, I was going to try to push through and make it to the end but enter in the ex-wife who is "insane" and a "slut" as the mmc calls her. The way he talked about the woman did NOT sit right with me. Yes, she did some bad stuff but that is why you get her HELP, you don't just leave your wife to deteriorate like that after the DEATH OF THEIR DAUGHTER. And then the slut shaming??? I was so done. I don't care if she was a goddamn sex worker, the way he talked about her was just gross.

I'm so grateful to Valentine PR and the author for sending me the physical copy of this book, unfortunately it just wasn't for me.

4.5 stars A grumpy professor that’s a stalker and blackmails the student? Yassss

This is my first book by Serena, but definitely not my last! The writing is refreshing, and her researching skills are admirable. She didn’t gloss over details, which allowed me to immerse myself into the writing page by page.

The book starts off with Professor Nicholas‘s perspective. He watches Phoebe while she works and has been stalking her for some time. Then, it switches to Phoebe‘s perspective. Phoebe is in college, an Ivy League in New York, and works two jobs in order to support her drunk mother and her baby brother. Her mother is no mother- she’s a good for nothing person and is not anyone that she could ever be proud of. Her elderly neighbor helps her babysit her little brother while she goes to school and works. When her neighbor ends up going to the hospital and she has to rely on someone else to watch her baby brother, Phoebe is forced to do something she has never done before- steal from the register of the cafe she works at because of how poor she is. Of course, when this happens, her professor happens to be watching her and sees what she does. This prompts him to blackmail her, and if she doesn’t do whatever he asks, the consequences will be dire.

What does he blackmail her to do? Well, he has the power to get her to do anything he wants, but what he wants is to watch her pleasure herself in front of him. And oh… em… gee… his commanding tone and alphaness is 🔥🤤😅. Even getting her to go sans panties and insert a pink d was😳😅🥵. He controls her pleasure, and she’s all for it (eventually).

There’s tension, there’s chemistry, and although he seems to just be an @$$hole and have no feelings, there is an underlying story that explains at all. A story that is heartbreaking and shows them many different layers to Nicholas- he’s scarred because of it (physically and emotionally). He’s protective of Phoebe, and he makes it his goal to make sure she’s safe 🥰🥰🥰.

I looooved the epilogue! Gah! Such a beautiful story. Just like any love story, there are tough bumps along the way, but the end result is glorious and breathtaking. Loved it. My only gripe is that I wouldn’t have minded if the bullying was a little more intense LOL😅, but with the type of characters that we have here, it was good and still dirty/delicious… just the way I like it 😜. Also, did the ex wife HAVE to be naked in his bed 🙈? Ugh

⚠️safety squad⚠️
-no cheating
-stalking happens (mmm 🤤)
-OWd- his ex wife keeps trying to entice H to sleep with her, but H is over her. OW shows up and is naked on H’s bed one day- but H promptly kicks her out and threatens her
-this is a bully romance- so bullying happens 😅- h pleases herself in front of him but is being forced to… eventually, it changes
-parental neglect/alcoholism/infant death mentioned

I loved this intense and dark romance

I started reading this story blindly, as I do with MANY books. We all have our tastes and preferences in regards to what we like and enjoy.
Serena blew my away with this story in a way that I do see myself reading this story again.
Professor Nicholaus is an arsehole, to say the least, that was hurt horribly in the past by his ex. Phoebe is a strong and determined young woman with a heart of gold that is just trying to graduate college while dealing with her drunk mother and raising her little brother.
Their worlds “collide” one morning and things go from there. From stalking, to blackmail, to helping, and then to actually seeing that the “villain” of the story was just trying to protect and love a young woman that he was terrified to let in. This story does have a happily ever after, but your heart will be squeezed over what both characters have to endure.
This is a dark read, but a fantastic one. If you aren’t easily offended, definitely pick it up and read. I loved it myself and would give it more than 5 stars if it were possible.

**update**

I also listened to the audiobook of this and it was an ✨experience✨ So good & one of my favorite audiobooks this year.
————————————————————————————
I thought this was great when it was The Professor. But this? THIS RIGHT HERE? A masterpiece I didn’t know I needed. The new scenes and reliving the ones I remembered from when I read it last year was everything.

I won’t lie, I hated Nicholas when I first met him BUT I swear to God he just crawls into your heart and just makes himself comfortable because he knows he is going to live there rent free.

I love Phoebe and how strong she is with the cards that she is dealt and learning what Nicholas goes through is truly heartbreaking.

Serena knocks it out of the park every single time & just when I thought she couldn’t make a book more perfect, she goes and proves me wrong.

Hot forbidden bully romance with a side of stalker

I’ve read a lot of Serena’s books and I’ve loved them all. Her ability to write contemporary romance and then completely switch gears to paranormal fantasy romance, and then blowing my mind by releasing this dark contemporary romance with a healthy dose of dominance, power play, and stalker-turned-bully-turned-lover is what makes Serena one of my favorites authors.

I really enjoyed how Serena created and portrayed Phoebe and Nicholas in this book. Phoebe is the good hearted young woman who sacrifices everything for your infant brother while dealing with her alcoholic mother. Nicholas is dark, commanding, and always does his best to ensure Phoebe isn’t struggling. She doesn’t appreciate hand outs so he has had to go about it differently in order to help her like helping her get a job at the night club by leaving a job posting on campus that he knew she would see.

The sexual tension was super hot and steamy! I was a little put off with him in the beginning with how he treated her in the office but that is where the bully aspect of this book comes in. Bully romances always frustrate me but when the steamy romance finally occurs, that whole build up makes it ten times hotter!

This was a fun stand alone read with a HEA. I highly recommend this book.

I absolutely loved the end of this book. The whole story had some curveballs I wasn't expecting. But I loved every minute of it and devoured it in one day! Definitely will reread it again!

I have very mixed feelings on this book and almost feel like passing on commenting on it but I'm going to anyway. The structure of this book may have been one of the first problems. The story is between Phoebe, a senior in college who has a deadbeat, useless, alcoholic mother that had an oops baby resulting in her younger brother - a one year old, Scottie which causes her to balance her college workload with not only two jobs to make ends meet but child rearing as well. (yeah, that was kind of a run on sentence if ever there was one). And a professor at her school, Nicholas McClean who cannot seem to stand Phoebe and goes out of his way to down the score on all her papers, picks her out mercilessly and has little to no compassion whatsoever for a girl whose pretty damn nice and carrying more weight that most do in the world. Thus, I come back to the first problem, the structure. We have only one chapter with Nicholas upfront where he's watching her from the place he sits every night while she works because he stalks her and has an unhealthy obsession with her. Then we jump to the entire first half of the book with only Phoebe's voice to guide us and there is absolutely nothing about the Professor that comes off as redeeming, kind, compassionate. He comes off as a bully, manipulator, asshole and somebody not above blackmailing his student and degrading her.

Why is that a problem? Because when you get to the second half of the book it turns into Nicholas's chapters and at that point it is really hard to give a damn about him or any of the woes that have befallen him in his life to make him the way he is. So any kind action taken towards Phoebe really seems moot given his treatment for the first half of the book. It's more like a given that he damn well should do those things to compensate her for the extra stress he's put on her life.

I actually didn't label this one a romance because I didn't find much romantic about it even in a dark way. What I saw at the end was a deeply disturbed and damaged man who took his hatred for another out on her and abused his position of power. After that, nothing could really save this for me.

I sat on this one for hours because I wasn't sure I was going to comment but the thing that tipped the scales was after the ending, the author explained a couple of things. Such as his OCD and that he is how he is and yes, he's a stalker and he messed up.... My point is, it just made my gut feelings about the book sink in deeper. Because if he were in a court of law he would need a good defense attorney and likewise I felt that the note at the end was almost like the writer defending him. And that just didn't work for me and solidified what I'd already been feeling.

I did connect with Phoebe - she was a real trooper and did what needed to be done in life, not just for herself but for others. But mostly this was a grim read for me of watching somebody scrimp by while somebody in a position of power just made them feel shittier. Not my deal.

2.75 stars rounded up to 3*** because I hate having to come down on a book and because I did admire Phoebe and love her relationship with her little brother/son, Scottie and with her elderly neighbor and I admired her drive to rise up from the situation she was in while taking so much upon herself. Everything else is deducted because Nicholas wasn't an anti-hero to me, he was just a plain asshole.

Phoebe, a young woman who has had too much hardship in her short life, is just trying to graduate to find a better life for her and her brother. But her professor, with his scowling face and watchful eyes, is making her university life harder than it should be. As she works two jobs, attends school, has an incapable mother, and takes care of her brother, her life is stressful enough.
This couple is so unconventional and certainly not the norm for society. They both come with a lot of baggage and struggle to find their footing. But oh my, those scenes were so sensuous and racy.
Serena always makes her characters come alive with emotion and passion, creates scenarios that are well thought out and delivered spectacularly and keeps her readers sated and fulfilled.
Obsessed was such a fabulous story that I could not put it down!

Interesting premise. This was a well-written, at times beautifully so, book about a man who becomes obsessed with his student. While the story was heavier on psychology than romance, I was kept intrigued and read it cover to cover. I found myself not being able to wait to find out what happened as the story progressed. I didn’t hate Nicholas at all, as some readers may have; at least for a good portion of the book. I was able to understand his motives and reasoning and was definitely rooting for a HEA. I wanted Phoebe to be with him and for him to finally open up and reveal everything to her. I felt that there were a few inconsistencies in Nicholas’ behavior and feelings but it wasn’t a big detraction for me. The Professor was an interesting read and I rate it 3 1/2 stars.

Ha! To think I almost gave up on this book. The beginning kinda drags for a bit with the FMC’s inner musings but once it picked up i really enjoyed it. Who knew a grumpy/bully/stalker professor could be a softy at heart.

So different...I could not put it down!!!

This one had a slow burn to it, but when it hit.....OMG !!!
This one will have you in shock, in tears, overwhelmed with joy seeing that Nicholas was breaking out of his miserable shell he had been in for 4 years...
He never knew that Phoebe would have that affect on him, but he had no clue about her unknown circumstance that would change both of their lives ... Say hello to 1 year old Scottie!!! At the end of the day, once you read this deep rooted story of overcoming certain medical challenges, you too will see.... little Scottie brought everyone together when they needed to be!
Kudos as well to the author for the additional education she provided about specific disorders and explaining to us more in detail which one triggered Nicholas along with websites for readers to be more educated if they are interested!!!!!!
Thank you Serena!!!

This is the first book that I've read from Serena Akeroyd and I'm blown away with how much I enjoyed it.

This book was definitely not light and fluffy it was downright dark and heartbreaking but it was also so damn HOT!

I just loved Phoebe so much she was such a strong person who had been through so much in her young life but worked and studied hard to care for her baby brother Scottie.

Nicolas is definitely hard to love at first but when you get in his head and understand where all his hate is coming from you kinda can't help but love him. He was flawed and complicated but deep down he was protective and loved hard under all that assholeness.

Nicolas, Phoebe and Scottie deserved their happily ever after and I'm so happy with the way this story ended.

Totally loved and recommend this x

Tainted. Dark. Stained.

What a strange yet exciting relationship. The professor and his student is just the surface. Powerful scenes that include bullying, addiction, control and romance. My heart bleeds for the trials these two souls have been through.

Obsessed was definitely way more than what I thought it would be. A forbidden relationship that springs up between a professor and his student. All the stirrings of a person who follows her every move, justifying it by telling himself he is protecting one of them but who?

A professor, Nicholas Maclean, falls for his student, Phoebe Whitehouse, arranging one job where he can watch over her while catching her in a precarious position when he sees her with her hand in the till at a second job. He makes her report to his office after class and "perform" for him on his desk in exchange for his silence. This performance occurs more than once, with him never laying a finger on her, each time easier than the time before. What happens between them slowly morphs into a totally different type of consensual encounter. No feelings are involved until nothing makes sense between them. She suddenly needs an escape for herself and her baby brother and Maclean offers them the use of his place as a refuge. Phoebe loads up their meager belongings, she and Scottie hop in a cab from the poor side of town to the affluent address. No matter how hard Maclean tries to guard his heart, the two become more important to him than he could have ever believed. Unfortunately his past interferes in more than one way but will it bring the two together or tear them apart?

This book was previously titled The Professor and has been reworked. The additions have enhanced the story and brought it forward to encapsulate so much more between Phoebe and Nicholas. A fabulous love story told so perfectly.

Audible Review:
Joe Arden and Lessa Lamb make listening to Obsessed a whole body experience! Joe's gravelly growl just makes Nicholas the best voice ever and made me melt into a pile of mush. I had whole body shivers. Holy hotness overload!!! Lessa made Phoebe come alive and it felt like she was someone I wanted to have as my best friend. These two voices made this book the ultimate listening sensation. I'll be playing Obsessed on repeat for a long time to come.

"The Professor" is my absolute favourite Standalone ever and one of my favourite books done by Serena Akeroyd. It's gets you hot under the collar and leaves you feeling naughty (in the best way) for loving it so much.
This book was a really great read. I loved the whole thing from biggening to end. I literally could not put it down and read it in one sitting (the first time and every time). The darkness, the obsession, the struggle and the outcome. What an addictive text. Never would I have thought that id be rooting for a stalker, but oh my god did I! He is hot as fire and had me dying to turn every page!
If you are after a forbidden sizzling read, this is it. I know without a doubt that i will read this again, many times! I have it in ebook, paperback and audio!
Excellent work Serena! You really knocked this one out of the park!

My have triggers and is most suited for a mature audience.

Oh so many things I love- age gap, taboo relationship (teacher-student), and bully tropes. yes, yes, and yes!

Our characters are all actually over 20, and the bully trope is put on its head because it is a professor bullying his student. Nicholas is such an alpha-hole- manipulative and troubled, dark and demanding. Fortunately, we get his POV so we also see his emotions, his rawness, his protective nature. The quintessential "onion" of a character.

Phoebe is fantastic- selfless, struggling to make it ends meet for her family, strong but kind all in one. She's dedicated and focused- driven but overburdened.

This was my first Serena book but most certainly wont be my last!

Absolutely stunning !

Everything. I loved every single thing about this book. It was so unique and different and made me feel. It's so rare to have a book make me feel anymore but everything about this was so beautifully written. The character development was phenomenal and truly made me imagine them and understand them better.

Tonic to my soul ♥️

A wonderful age gap, older man romance with just enough edge, intensity and heat! Nicholas is also just damaged enough to be a beautiful vortex of mysterious need, yet magnetism as well! First time reader of this author and looking forward to reading more!! 👍🏼👍🏼

This book was sooooooo good! OMG! I loved how there was a darkness to it and a twisted hero. Because that’s how people really are. They are flawed and messed up and it’s not always pretty. I was hooked from the beginning, and it kept my attention throughout. The story line was awesome, the attraction and love story was awesome. I just loved everything about it. Yay!

Disturbing and intense!

The relationship between the two main characters was different. Almost a love/hate thing. But as the story progressed, you start to understand their dynamic. Definitely a dark love story with a messed up hero and a downtrodden heroine. Good read

Star Rating : 4/5 Stars

Cliffhanger : None

Hero : Nicholas

Heroine : Phoebe

Pace of the story : Moderate

Angst Rating : 5/10

Heat Rating : 6/10

Triggers Involved : Dub con , bully , taboo

Plot Summary :
Phoebe is nicholas obsession. And the worst thing is that the poor girl has no idea about the type of dilemma she has landed herself into . He watches her. Lives her. Knows everything about her. He does not care that it is forbidden because she is his student. She was his. It was as simple as that. And now that she has given him the opening to make a move, no one was getting in his way.

Life has never been easy for Phoebe. Taking care of her toddler brother , and then managing school , it's a hard task. That is until life takes a worse turn. With no one to lean onto she makes a wrong move and lands herself in the path of the biggest bully she has ever met. Her professor. The one man who never saw her. The mean one who took pleasure in humiliating her now holds the key to her future and the worst thing was that she has no idea about how tough he is going to make everything for her.

Overall Opinion :
This book has been republished with new scenes and damn I love them all! I had the book before too so I knew everything that was going to happen and it was the same for like 95% of the book but a few changes here and there and a few scenes being added made a good difference.

I liked reading it again and if you guys have not read this one before then do so ASAP! It's the best one yet by this author. I am a huge fan of student teacher dark romance with the male teacher as the bully and this one has that and much more. Definitely recommending this one to all the dark romance loving people out there.

Awesome book!

What a wonderful book, i thought it was a bully romance well it is a little bit but to me it's about a young Professor named Nicholas that is very good at hiding his real self but when a student of his named Phoebe joins he his writing class, she is twenty and has a very hard life working two jobs taking care of her baby brother. He at the beginning he was mean to her but he starts watching her and helping her in ways that she has no way of knowing. When he catches her doing something wrong at one of her jobs he blackmail her into seeing him and some of the things they do is very hot but you have to read of all the things he does for her it is so loving, then you find out the past of Nicholas that was sad but Phoebe was so strong for him as he was for her. There is a mean Ex and mother, but so much love as well great ending and great book!💗 will be recommending this book. 💖

Grabs your heart

What an intense journey, two people who have been dealt equally devastating lives.
Can being obsessed with a person really lead to a true relationship.
Nicholas knows what he is doing is so wrong but the safety of Phoebe is paramount, he will do anything to keep her safe.
This book covers some dark themes but in a way that you can see where the logic in the thinking comes from.
Can the main characters who have been dealt such trauma in the past reconcile years of abuse and neglect to build something real and solid.
I was so drawn into the story, crying and laughing with the characters, but also feeling their pain,it is such an emotional journey I could not put it down.

I loved this book. It was not exactly how I expected it to go. Serena does an awesome job. I couldn't put the book down. Phoebe is a student doing everything she can to survive and take care of her baby brother. Her alcoholic mother who cares for nothing for Phoebe except what Phoebe can do for her. When Phoebe makes a mistake and is caught by her professor things take a huge turn for her. I love how independent she is, even though she comes across as shy her personality begins to grow and change when the professor stops being mean and starts being more.
