Think #2

Later Than You Think

Rate this book
Is it possible for a shattered girl to love a broken boy? Each of them marrying the chips and holes in the cracks that are barely holding them together. Drawn to each other like two magnets, fighting for what they want. What is meant to be.

To be together.

Or are they just two broken people? Lapping up the love that’s dripped down the side of a knife, hoping they don’t get cut.

I lived in hell growing up. Trusting a man, I believed to be a best friend, only to find out he was the devil disguised as my savior.

I had a dad that cared more about his next high, than he did his daughter.

I lost a sister, who is the only reason I’m standing here today.

I love a man, that I won’t let myself have.

Unaware and unassuming, I have danger staring me right in the eyes, oblivious to the destruction looming ahead of me. Timing my demise perfectly, never wanting me to have my happy ending.

Because for people like me, the good things in life come much later than you think.

“Just because your canvas has some rips and tears, does not make the art any less beautiful.”

Later Than You Think is a story about two people who have been broken in their pasts. While we do get some of Preston’s history, LTYT truly dives deep into Talia’s by hitting at memories from her past that were life altering. There are points in this story that I wanted to reach into the book and just save Talia from the horrible things that were happening in her life. Of course things eventually turn around some, but this story is truly one that breaks you before it builds you up. That being said while this is a fictional romance, there are aspects of this story that feel very REAL. LTYT may be a bit triggering for some people. A more direct trigger warning is available in the blurb.

This is K. Michelle’s second published book, and I think she’s definitely establishing herself as an author who doesn’t hold back. She puts everything into her work and makes you feel what her characters are feeling. It makes for a much more emotional reading experience.

All in all LTYT was a great read that reminds you that not everyone has smooth sailing into their happily ever after. Sometimes the trip is long and hard, but still possible in the end!

Since the moment we got to know Talia we knew there was something special about this girl. Through Mac’s eyes we could see Talia as a loyal, fierce friend who would love you with all her heart and would do anything for you, but also someone who had been hurt in unimaginable ways in the past and that was the story we wanted to read more about, the story about the fighter… the survivor.

IF YOU HAVEN'T READ 'SOONER THAN YOU THINK' YOU MIGHT WANNA STOP RIGHT HERE, IT'S ABOUT TO GET DOWN WITH SPOILERS

Talia's story is dark, complicated, violent and raw. Nevertheless, Talia is an extraordinary character, she is loving, funny, talented and beautiful. Inside and out. That's why Preston couldn't stop trying to win her over. Their relationship was something we really enjoyed reading. Their love was patient, understanding but also flawed.

Later Than You Think will take you through a whirlwind of emotions. It's intriguing, so perfectly written it will make you feel every single thing Talia is fighting for. You won't be able to put this book down, we promise you that much.

These series are gonna be the death of me.
She not only was able to break our hearts on the first book but on this one we've got to experience the pain as the character goes through a horrible trauma from a very young age.
Talia is such a STRONG character. I mean, this girl gets one punch after the other and still she manages to show us always that braveness and even that she was able to FORGIVE and move on.
And Preston, that man, he's head over heels for her since the day they've met. He's the one for her. He's the one who helps her heal, and what's more important to open up and to allow him to love her.

This isn't the typical love story. It teaches us about how we can overcome what life throws our way no matter what it is.

Oh boy, I'm so glad I didn't start this one right after finishing Sooner Than You Think, otherwise I would have been a complete mess reading the majority of this book. This one starts off as STYT ended and gosh reading those events through Ryland had hurt but reading them through Talia hurts just as much. My poor girl. And the worst is that she still had so much to get through and us readers were just about to find out about the hell she had already withstood.

Later Than You Think tells the story of two broken people who find each other but their pasts keep them apart as more than just friends. Talia and Preston were made for each other but there's something about Preston that hits too close to home when it comes to her past and the hell she went through; so afraid of being mislead again Talia doesn't let herself be with Preston on a more than friends basis, not until she is faced with the fleetingness of life and realizes that her love for Preston is bigger than her fear.

Talia is so strong and I truly admired her. She has been through so much and we got to see just how much through flashbacks and in those we saw just how important Mackenzie was throughout her life which, knowing Talia's present reality, made it hurt even more. My heart was constantly hurting for Talia, for Ryland, for Greyson and for Preston. It was so clear and you could truly feel the loss they were all feeling.

This book is not for the weak hearted, a lot happens and there might be a lot of triggers for some people so please be aware this book portraits a lot of heavy subjects like violence, rape and torture. Talia is a warrior and while it hurt a whole lot, I'm so glad I read her story and got to see her get her HEA with Preston. He was pretty special and he loved her so hard. I'm happy she found him and allowed herself to be happy with him, specially with what she was suffering through.

K. Michelle writes real, raw stories that will touch you deep and obliterate your heart. I don't know where she's been hidding until now but I'm glad I found her and got to read Mackenzie and Talia's stories. I love emotional books and this lady sure can write them. I can't wait for what's next. I can't wait to read Kennedy's story next. I'm pretty sure I know who the hero will be... it's gonna hurt but I want him to find happiness after what he's been through, he deserves it.

K. Michelle continues to deliver page-turner after page-turner! Sooner Than You Think, the first book in the Think Series, completely tore my heart apart and this one continued the trend while also repairing it in so many amazing ways! She writes about heroines, who’ve been dealt some awful hands at life, finally finding light in the darkness. And it’s utterly beautiful!

Talia has been beaten and bruised but continues to come out stronger than before. She’s finally made a life for herself and opened her dream bakery, but just when her life seems to be going good tragedy strikes again and she loses the only person she considers family. For years she had been going back and forth with Preston and in this time of grief, she decides to lean on him. Preston has also dealt with issues in his past, but he’s determined to not let his past hinder his relationship with Talia. But can he convince Talia they are meant to be together before it’s too late?

This book, unlike Sooner Than You Think, showcases the darkness first and the love later. So prepare yourself to really dive deep into everything Talia has gone through in her life. It’s gut-wrenching and horrifying, but it’s important to know what she’s been through to understand her HEA. She is one extremely strong heroine and I couldn’t help but want to reach into this book and wrap her up in my arms. This book is my favorite in the series so far and I can’t wait to see what’s next for K. Michelle!

Holy Fuck. Pardon my french. Sorry not sorry because I don't even know where to begin with this. I’m devastated. I’m a complete emotional wreck right now. There is so much to be angry about. So much to grieve. I don’t know what to do. I’m confused and heartbroken and genuinely at a loss for words. I’ll just start from the beginning.

We lose, quite possibly, the greatest character in this two book adventure (excluding Preston because hot damn) when Mackenzie dies. AND after sitting there and reading about how the love of her life had to witness her slowly withering away…we get suckered into reliving her death through the eyes of her bestfriend. AND ON TOP OF THAT we're ripped apart by Talia’s detailed play by play of her childhood abuse. I mean WHAT?!?! What are you trying to do to me, Michelle??? I don’t know how I’m going to recover.

To say that Talia is strong is an absolute understatement. There aren’t words to describe her strength. Her abuse began at the age of five and went on well into her teens. She was mentally and physically abused by her father and when it wasn’t enough, she was sexually abused by the man her father “gave” her to in order to keep his drug addiction afloat. Oh, and what’s worse? Her father and his friend were cops. Corrupt policemen. Her trauma lasts forever; there’s no “getting over” something like that. Ryland’s (read the first book so you know who this is) best friend, Preston, becomes a staple in her life after a mysterious one night stand turns into destiny.

Preston is the epitome of a gentlemen. He admits his mistakes and he stays by Talia’s side even when she is constantly pushing him away. He's also SMOKIN'.

I was completely engulfed in this book. It feels weird to say I "enjoyed" it, because of the content. I don't think "enjoyed" is the right word. I felt A LOT. And that means the author did something right, in my book. This book needs intense trigger warnings. I was nauseous reading everything that Talia experienced as a child. The first book, Sooner Than You Think, is a completely different flavor; it almost feels like this story lives in a completely different universe. When I was introduced to Talia in the first book, I knew she had been through some traumatic events, but I had no idea the gravity of it all. Take time reading this, if you need it. Take breaks. You don't have to power through it all in one sitting like I did. I would almost recommend giving yourself some breathing room. And tissues. Just like the last book.

Last but not least…I can’t let this go, so I feel that it must be mentioned. I’m angry. It hasn’t even been a year since Mackenzie died, and Ryland is already looking at another woman? That’s unacceptable. He needs time to heal. And grieve. And help his son understand what happened to his mother. The epilogue at the end had me crying tears of disappointment. Mackenzie deserves better than that. I'm anxious to read about Ry's HEA to see if this woman lives up to Mackenzie standards. I need her to. Please.

“Just because a dollar bill gets stomped on, crumpled up, washed, or thrown around … It is still a dollar bill. It doesn’t lose its value...And to me, you are priceless. Don’t ever question your worth through my eyes, Angel.”

Another one emotional and full of all sorts of feelings story from K Michelle. This author just started her journey, but she has a lot to share and I hope we are yet to read many more of her amazing stories.

If “Sooner than you think” story knocked me down and send me to a massive book hangover, this one had my poor heart hyperventilating and shredded to pieces and while part of it was put piece by piece together, some of it is still broken and bleeding with emotions. So dear Michelle, pretty pretty please hurry up and give us “Kennedy” as soon as possible.

This book tells us Tallia’s story and she is some badass survivor. The things she has gone through in her childhood and the fight she had to put up with to put all that behind and move forward is something remarkable and inspiring.

Talia is starving for love, care, acceptance and tenderness and she truly deserves all these in her life more than anyone else. Preston is someone that could be everything she needs and everything she wants, but unfortunately, his past has dark shadows of his own and this is something Talia will never be okay with. He couldn’t be a better guy to love Talia and take care of her, but she is not ready to deal with something she was avoiding all her adult life.

This book is really amazing and will give you the biggest satisfaction feeling at the end, but be prepared for a dark and heavy rollercoaster ride, especially if you read “Sooner than you think” beforehand. You will be sent to an extremely emotional whirlwind, but "I wouldn't change a thing".

A BOOK THAT MAKES YOU FEEL EVERY WORD WRITTEN

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 January 2021

One of the best things to come out of reading in 2020 for me was discovering this very talented author. Be warned this is a really dark read and at times made me feel like i was crawling out of my skin BUT the author has done a beautiful job of creating main characters that are strong, resilient and hopeful.

This is Talia and Preston's story. We first met Talia in Sooner Than You Think and there were tiny hints to a dark past but nothing could prepare me for Talia's horrendous childhood or the fact that the author doesn't sugarcoat or shy away from the ugly years of mental, physical and sexual abuse. Talia is a true survivor and has overcome so much with the help of her best friend, Mac who has always been her lifeline. Now Talia must face the unimaginable, a life without Mac.

Talia has an unforgettable night of hot sex with a hot guy but they never exchange names or forget about each other. Four years later Talia finally meets Preston (Ryland's best friend) and is shocked to discover who he is. Preston has his own demons so Talia refuses to get romantically involved with him so they become friends. I loved their banter and was rooting for them to overcome their obstacles and be together. Talia shares her painful childhood with Preston and he is understanding and supportive but never gives up hope of a future together.

This book contains some very dark material but also is centred around a beautiful soul who has an inner strength we could only hope for and whilst she is careful with who she lets into her life and her heart, once she does she doesn't let go. Talia is no wimp, she is an absolute warrior who has made a success of her life and battles her demons head on.

I strongly recommend that you read Sooner Than You Think first in order to understand and appreciate the whole story but also because you will be missing out if you don't as it's a beautiful and emotional book but in a completely different way to Later Than You Think.

A page turner for sure! Wow! This one had some darker subject matter than the previous book. The way the story was written was very well done, and had me invested in these characters and their journey.

Talia has gone through so much. I loved her fight! Preston has a past also, one that Talia can’t trust. There is definitely a deep connection between them, a definite spark. I love that she was able to let him in, and speak about her past. Loved their moments, and Preston’s willingness to wait. All around great writing!

There is also Ryland, who is still grieving. We also get Mackenzie moments when Talia delves into past moments. There is so much emotion and heart when Talia thinks of her friend(her sister). It brought tears to my eyes.

This story had my emotions all over the place. I couldn’t put it down! I look forward to more from K. Michelle.

After reading Sooner Than You Think, I wasn’t in a rush to read this, I waited a few days to pick this one up and I’m mad at myself for waiting so long. This book picked up right where STYT left off and it was a PAGE TURNER! ! I couldn’t put it down and I finished this book in less than 24 hours, which, when you have two young kids is not an easy task! Full review on my blog; https://kaileibooktholomew.com/book-r...
