Upgraded action, skills, quests, loot, and characters
I recently finished listening to the first book and I have to say that the author has definitely improved upon his debut novel. The writing really draws you in more to this one than the first. The author definitely put more thought into developing the characters.
A few things that stood out to me a lot more in this book than the last.
More characters with unique personalities. Especially John - Son of Ray and Hennegarron.
The dialogue between the characters flows more naturally and you get more insight into who they are. Also, I am a big fan of the weapon/instrument the Hammertar.
Varnoth’s abilities get some pretty cool upgrades. I mean an ability where you can make daggers rain from the sky is pretty cool.
There are plenty of quests with corresponding rewards/xp. This story has a ton of action that works well for me since I need to stay engaged while reading. The author definitely focuses on the action and dialogue instead of focusing on excessive world building, which may or may not be your thing, but works for me.
One area that was improved for my was Varnoth’s stats. While sometimes the stats didn’t translate (Varnoth pretty much is an unstable beast no matter what his strength is) I still appreciated the effort. Again I think the new abilities/skills/loot are the star of this book.
I will definitely continue on with this series. If you like good/gory fight scenes and a lot of action with a unique MC, I’d definitely recommend this one.
