Absolute trash

This is seriously one of the worst books I have ever read. Improbable doesn't begin to describe the story line. The other, the stilted dialogue, the one dimensional characters - it's hard to say which I disliked the most. I'm no quitter, so I read the entire book, but it was a waste of my time and energy. Don't waste yours.

I was really disappointed in this one, and to be honest, it's hard to be too picky

Kelsey was just really weak. She's supposed to be a "tough-I-overcame-a-horrible-past" person, but instead she's just gone from being other peoples' doormat to Jared's. Jared was so obviously a manipulative jerk, right from the start. Who constantly refers to everything as "perfect"? Perfect wife, perfect cook, perfect looks....ugh. It was nonstop - we get it!

What was the most frustrating was the lack of gumption Kelsey had to take control of her own life. Afraid someone is going to tell Jared her secrets? Then start secreting some jewelry, cash, etc. and make a run for it...BEFORE he starts getting suspicious. Maybe during one of his apparently many tantrums in his locked office.

The whole thing devolved for me once it turned into the prisoner-bread-water nonsense. You can't tell me she couldn't break a window and scream for help during the day while he was at work. They didn't live in the middle of nowhere. And even if (as she constantly fretted about) no one believed her, they can't force her to to go back home to him. She could park herself in the police station waiting room and refuse to go home until someone took her seriously...eventually it'll get some real attention. Sigh.

I'm not even going to discuss the convenient and disgusting baby storyline.
**Spoiler ahead**

...and finally, to be able to wipe out the ghost of her past (running from the law) by doing a simple internet search on her name and finding out she'd been proven innocent, thus negating 90% of the purpose of her character in this story (new name, new identity, terrified of her "secret" being found out, going back to prison, etc.) was just way to abrupt and easy. It wasn't even a surprise...if anything I was expecting something like that the whole book so she could quit worrying about it and move on.

I could not put this book down. The twists and turns came so fast, I felt I was just reeling from the last one when I was slammed with the next. That’s exactly what a good psychological thriller should do. If you are reading a book of this genre expecting beautiful writing and a really well-thought plot line, you are doing it wrong. This isn’t a book to slowly savor and ponder. It’s a grip the edge of your seat and don’t put it down until you’re done whirlwind.

Yes, you will find plot holes - after you finish it. While you’re still reading, you’re too busy wondering how Kelsey will ever get out of this mess, then the next mess, then the next mess, and so on. Yes, Kelsey is a weak character. Given her back-story that is sprinkled in bits through the book so I can’t explain without spoilers, I cannot imagine anyone making it through such trauma without some personality disorder. I still rooted for her. I found her to be a very sympathetic protagonist.

My heart, my body, and every other part of me knows that this is just the beginning. He will hurt me again and there’s not a damn thing I can do about it. I can only suffer in silence until the darkness completely suffocates me. Nothing is more painful than watching my life falling apart, becoming ashes of what could have been.

Kelsey is living the perfect life as she thinks. However, behind her facade she is a woman with many secrets that will leave her in a prison cell. Perfect is anything she is but her beau is convinced that she is eveything that he wants and more. Often she tries to pretend that she is living this fairytale life with bliss and a beautiful family but her reality is not anything like her fantasy. Jared is unlike any other man that she has ever met. However, he is controlling her every move, his bipolar personality is enough for strangers to question their relationship.

Enters Victor who always had the hots for Kesley much to her dismay. Constantly he thinks that the to of them have a chance together, but he never can get as close as she wants her to be. It does not stop his advances though, he will stop at nothing to get her to himself. Torn betwen her ideal marriage and Victor's stalkish ways,Kelsey must decide if her personal life is more important than her safety.

This was a really good thriller, it had many twists and turns that I did not see coming. I thought that I guessed the ending but it surprised me with how it ended. I did think that it ended quick so there were a few unanswered questions but splendid consistency. Great characterization as well, I really love how developed the main characters were.

I was immersed in every page, it kept me gluded to see what the conclusion was.

I am way more picky with thrillers ( my favorie genre) than others so I will not give this a perfect five stars, but I really enjoyed this book.

Plan to read more books by L.G Davis and I do recommend reading it!

MUST READ!!!
For those who loves a gripping psychological thrillers that keep you on the edge of your seat, trust me you will love this one.
I couldn't put it down till the very last page. It's fast paced and it reads so easy. I was hooked from the beginning.
The story engulfs you from the start and you can't stop reading until you see the end. There's always something going on with every single page you turn on. You don't even miss a second. There is no way. I was so engrossed in the action that I forgot about reality and this is what a really good book makes you do, forget about everything that happens around you and be completely engrossed in the story. The book is about Kelsey, who has not had an easy life since birth, but is yet to face the devil herself.
It makes you question how well do you know your partner and the people you call friends and you think you can relay on. There were so many secrets that came out and so many twists untill the last page. I wasn't bored at all. I couldn't read fast enough. I highly recommend it to everyone. It's a must read.

Wow.....my face hurts from all the eye rolls.....I have read a LOT of books, and this is the dead last worst book ever. The “heroine” is bizarrely domestic...to the point I want to smack her....and what the author thinks is an acceptable husband....makes me seriously wonder where the author grew up?

I could not finish it.....it was literally ticking me off that the author wrote such a weak, stupid and mixed up woman...I mean seriously?

Holy Amazeballs what a read!
This is one suspenseful gripping story.
I was on the edge of my seat with my heart pounding hard throughout the book.
It is fast paced and it’s gripping.
The plot and storyline are stunning and mind blowing.
Kelsey has not had an easy life.
Since childhood she’s been dealt a hard hand.
Nothing came easy for her.
Now she’s living the dream life.
But she’s got secrets that can destroy everything in a blink of an eye.
Jared is the loving husband.
A firefighter in a quaint little town.
Kelsey and Jared are the envy of their friends.
But not everything is as it seems in this quiet peaceful place.
It looks like Kelsey is not the only one hiding things and keeping secrets.
Ms. Davis took me on one wild ride with The Midnight Wife.
Omg the twists and turns the author delivers are absolutely jaw dropping.
An incredible thrilling read that had my mind reeling.

Plenty of twists and turns and just when you think you have it all figured out- wrong! I love a book that can keep me guessing and I finished this one in less than a day - I could not put it down. This was my first read from L.G. And now I’m going to have to read more! From the characters to the storyline it was well written with just enough questions and suspense to keep driving you to finish ASAP - and then leaves you with a book hangover... what’s not to love?

Don't waste your time.

I could have written this book when I was 12. My writing would not have been as shallow and riddled with plot holes or spelling and grammatical errors.

Where to start...

One of, if not the, worst books I have ever read. Stupid characters, ridiculous story. Conversations between the characters made me laugh. Happy to delete.

Bad, bad, bad
I usually rate with 2 stars books that I managed to finish and this is the case here. I had never read an L.G. Davis book before, and this is probably the last time I do.
The general idea of the book (not knowing your husband well) is not off-putting. Apart from that, nothing really made sense. First of all, the heroine’s shocking rape in the first pages of the book made me think twice of carrying on reading, and just did out of curiosity to see where this was going. Her not telling anyone about the rape made me die inside and think less of her. Second… what a jerk of a husband she’s got. I’d honestly be on the run than married to this guy. And her trying her best not to lose him made me practically mad. More to that…could anyone really live in a house where the study (one of the main rooms of the house) is locked? The fact that the heroine got pregnant from being raped was totally unnecessary and did not add anything to the plot. The twist in the end was ridiculous, just a last-minute idea the author had to add some more absurdity to the story. Last but most importantly, had it NEVER occurred to the heroine to google her own name? In a world with smart phones and wifi everywhere, she had time to go for a run but no time to ever google her name once, to find out that she was never accused of anything, hence did not have to put up with all this s*** all this time? And finally, I was bummed to find out the author is a woman.
For many reasons (feminism and technology mostly) this is a novel that does not belong to the 21st century.

My 2nd book by this author ...

After reading Don't Blink, I was really looking forward to another of Ms. Davis' stories full of twists and turns. I don't know which book was written first, but I have to say that this one just wasn't as impressive. Maybe it just felt like she was trying too hard, putting in one twist after another, after another, after yet another ... that the storyline gets a bit muddled. Frankly, it feels too contrived. Some may enjoy the book, but I can't recommend it. But, as I thoroughly enjoyed my first book by her, I am looking forward to reading another of her stories!

A generous 3 stars. I feel like I’ve read this before. It follows a formula and I kept waiting for something I didn’t expect or predict. It kept my attention, but I felt it was predictable.

I have to admit that this book was a little bit over the top for me. It is a psychological thriller that seems very straight forward on the onset. Kelsey Bloom, the perfect wife to Jared, is raped by one of her husband’s friends. In her struggle to free herself she hits him with a rock and runs off. The next day he is dead and Kelsey thinks she has killed him. Then she starts getting text messages from the dead man.

I don’t want to give too much away but I thought this story went a bit too far with the everyone is an enemy and everyone’s past is not what it seems, even the main character. It would have been nice to know the main character’s past just to make it all seem a bit more plausible as to why the sh*t hit the fan so thoroughly in Kelsey’s life.

The story did keep me interested enough to keep on reading although I was rolling my eyes at every turn at the over the top way the book presented itself. For a bit I thought i was in more evil version of Stepford. Considering how interconnected everyone was in this story I am surprised it was resolved so fast at the end.

Good premise but I thought it went too far on may points. I am not sure if this is a series but will look forward to reading other books by LG Davis.

The Midnight Wife is a story filled with suspense written by L.G. Davis. This story will have you saying wow with every turn of the page. I was drawn to the main character Kelsey from the first pages however her husband gave me cause for concern. Throughout this story my insights were right. What a monster in disguise. So many secrets, lies, andurder throughout this story but when everything is revealed it will shock you as to the person responsible. Relationships are not what they seem and friendships are really questionable. With the abuse Kelsey suffers I am surprised I didn't have nightmares. I had a hard time putting this story down. I was also sad to see the story end.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.

Very rarely do I write reviews for books, however this book has been on my mind for 3 days now, and not for any good reasons. Slight spoilers ahead.

My first introduction to this author was through the book "Stolen Breath". While that book has the same issues of “Midnight Wife”, it flows much better in the former.

1. The pace is breakneck

While reading this book there was no time to take a breath. This is a double edge sword. You never have a moment to stop and think, so you never notice the smaller plot holes. However, you do see the glaring holes still, but you don’t have time to get angry about them. While listening to the audiobook, I would tell my husband highlights of what was going on and he thought I was reading a whole series.

2. The characters are unbelievable

The characters are just out of this world. They’re either blind to the world or omniscient. Somehow every character knows everything about everyone expect the protagonist. Then, as soon as it is revealed to the reader, every single character knows about it.

3. Too many twists/plot holes

Every time something was revealed, it caused a new plot hole. The entire time I was thinking “how is she legally married without paperwork? How did her DNA not tip off police (if they were able to collect it from Victor)? How did she stay in the hospital under her false name? If her identity is so foolproof why is she so concerned? If she came from an abusive relationship how did she fall into the same trap with a different man? How did her husband have a fake identity? The list goes on.

4. What is this author’s issue with kidneys and babies?

In both titles mentioned, kidney transplants, miscarriages, motherhood and stolen babies are a part of the books. Now, in “Stolen Breath” this makes sense. It drives the story and is a central plot point. In “Midnight Wife” it is all mentioned in passing, yet still was dedicated time, scenes and slight plot points.

Was this book entertaining? Yes. Was it a good book? No. If you’re looking for something to listen to and can suspend your belief, it is entertaining and will pass the time. The audiobook was on the short side in my opinion, but I was able to tough it out to the end. “Stolen Breath” was a large improvement, so I have hope for the author. I will be giving one or two of her books a chance, I have “Don’t Blink” on my list to read this week.

Captivating and Surprising!

Kelsey and Jared will take you on a merry-go-round that will spin out of control. You’ll hold on to the bars for dear life hoping you won’t fly off as you continue on the ride with this group of friends and townsfolk.

What seems to be the perfect couple on the outside is not the same when the doors are locked and the shades are drawn.

From page one to the end your left trying to figure out what’s going on, who’s the bad seeds and what’s going to happen next. You’ll quickly find out that what you thought isn’t at all the way things were. And when you think you’ve got it all figured out ......bam!

From the most beautiful gestures to the unthinkable will happen. Hold on tight because this story has more excitement, thrills, and anticipation than you ever expected.

Wonderfully written to lure you into the world of the characters as they live out each and every moment of this unforgettable read.

Captivating and surprising! You won’t want to miss a thing.

“The Midnight Wife” is a psychological thriller that is well-written and realistic enough that you think you are reading someone personal story. Is there ever a perfect couple? Everyone seems to think that Kelsey and Jared Bloom are it; but are they really? This story has so many twists and turns that you will not know what’s going to happen until it does. The characters are so authentic that they feel like your neighbors. Kelsey will have you on an emotional rollercoaster from the first page to the last. The story will keep you glued to the pages trying to find out who the villain or villains in this tale will be. L.G. Davis is a master storyteller with this book and I look forward to reading the next. Excellent job!!!

NO MORE

This is the second book I've read by this author. It will be the last. The author is writing in first person in this novel which I find somewhat refreshing, but not enough to convince me to read another. Too many plot twists were thrown in just to surprise; I was not surprised. Almost every major twist was overly predictable. There were a few that were unseen and the author would have been better off sticking with those instead of trying to take the reader on a roller coaster ride of a read.
I gave the book two stars because, though contrived, I could never write a book worthy enough to read at all and this author needs to keep writing. It is possible, after twenty or thirty more attempts, she will find her 'speed' and 'flow' and produce a novel well worth your time.
Just not this one!

Even though some of the plot was little unbelievable, I still liked this book. I liked Kelsey. Her husband Jared was a manipulative jerk. Her neighbors, especially Victor and Rachel were not their friends. Even Jared and Victor were supposedly best friends, but friends don't treat each other that way. Rosemary's explanation was a little far-fetched. Bad luck followed Kelsey where-ever she went. Some of it was her making bad decisions. Some of it was her burying her head in the sand, hiding out and jumping to conclusions about what happened. I found it a little hard to understand her logic sometimes. But still liked her. And, loved it towards the end when her and Jared were in the kitchen.

My second LG Davis novel and again a suspenseful hold your breath rollercoaster thrill ride. I don’t know if I ever want to visit the author’s mind. Writing with stuff nightmares are made of I was on the edge of my seat every thrilling page. The twists and turns and events that went on I did not see happening. The ending shocked me too! Surprise surprise!

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

Good thriller

Marriage is never what it seems. Outwardly it looks like the perfect couple in a home of bliss. On the inside, however, secrets, betrayals, horrors live. I really enjoyed this suspenseful read. There were so many twists and turns, so much evil and mistrust.

The short description of this book reads much better than the book itself. There is no character development and the plot seems to be made up as it goes.
It’s one of those books that you force yourself to finish.
