Friedrich Lochner's work in hymnology and liturgy has been recognized as preeminent among liturgical scholars for well more than 100 years. Excerpts of his writings have been published in periodicals, and a condensed version of his original book was published in the early 1950s, but the full work has not been available to today's reader.
Splendid book, very edifying, very enjoyable. The last kudo assumes you have at least a little interest in Liturgics. The author explains why each part of the Chief Divine Service is the way it is, and how and why it differs from the Roman Mass, and the Eastern Orthodox Liturgy. The translation from German should be easily understood by all clergy of Liturgical churches, and most laity. I highly recommend this book to any who see the value of the historic Liturgy, and those who would deepen their understanding of it.
