From Amazon Bestselling Author Mickey Miller, comes a football romance about secrets, love, and redemption. Impatient. Demanding. Sexy. Bossy.
I hate my new boss. He's Everett Brewer: Football's smoking hot, superstar running back. When I signed on to be the NFL superstar's in home personal assistant, I had no idea what I was in for. Every one of his previous personal assistants quit after one week, max. After meeting him just once, I see why. He's brooding. Impatient. Demanding. And add in a little too sexy for his own good. His standards are ridiculously high. But I really need this job. We're at odds, but he doesn’t know I’m halfway to finding out his secret, thanks to a note he scribbled on a napkin that I found. Could the man who hits harder than anyone else actually have a soft spot? I thought he would never drop his icy exterior and reveal his hot interior. Even superstars have a girl they change for. Turns out I'm that girl. Only problem is, I'm hiding a secret, too. And it's one he might not forgive me for.
But falling in love is never easy. Especially with a man as complex as Everett Brewer.
Hi, there! My name is Mickey Miller and I write sexy, fun romance with smart characters. My books are great if you're looking for a light-hearted, steamy read with some humor and a happy ending! Happy reading!
I hated the main characters, and their story. It took me a lot of time to finish this one, and I only did because everything in my kindle seems boring right now (yes, the hundreds of ebooks in it).
Everett and Emma were amazing. I loved them so much. This story was not your run of the mill sports romance. This story was so much more. This story was so wonderfully written. You could feel the emotions that each character was feeling. I love stories like this and Everett and Emma’s love story gave me all the feels. There is a twist in this story and it was done so well. Because of this, Everett had so much that he had to go through and without Emma by his side, he wouldn’t have been able to work through it and learn from it. Sometimes all you need is the right person and Everett and Emma found that in each other. I recommend you that you pick this book up and trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Mickey’s books are always great and The Hold Out was another hit for me. Emma and Everett’s story was fun with lovable characters. There was the perfect amount of humor, romance, banter, drama, and steam.
Everett was broody and an a*sshole. And he’s difficult to work with and for. But he has a secret he’s been keeping that makes him this way. Emma comes into his life to be his PA and it’s clear that they need to find out how to work together and get along. She has a secret too. But what happens when other feelings come into play?
The Hold Out was well written with a well thought out plot that had many layers to it. The characters had a lot of back and forth and I enjoyed watching how it played out. Through it all, I was hoping they would work things out.
Whether you are new to Mickey or have read other books of his in the past, you will love The Hold Out!
Wow. I’m really pissed. How is this possibly an HEA? I’m so frustrated! ****Spoilers *****alert, a girl can just give up a baby for adoption with no input from the father, whom she obviously named on the birth certificate because the F*ing adopted father knew THE WHOLE TIME WHO EVERETT WAS! Everett searches for years with a private detective to find his daughter, but couldn’t legally open up the official adoption files? Oh and did I mention he was only 15/16 when he fathered the baby (with a college aged girl 18/19 year old) when the kid was born, so it actually was statutory rape because HE was a minor. So how the frick did she put him on the birth certificate, you would have to put his date of birth. And by the way the fathers age would be mention in all the adoption papers, he could not do anything legally at 15/16, so wouldn’t Everette’s parents need to sign?
THIS BOOK NEEDS A LAWYER BAD.
Also the NFL team owners, suspend/fire a player because the PA they hired, said the Steroid guy was leaving his house once. Really a NFL union rep or a lawyer couldn’t have fought that?!!! Ridiculous!! When he never tested for any drugs? If they were doing an investigation they would have done a test. An actually athletes get randomly drug tested ALL THE TIME!
I am super disappointed in the lack of research done for this book.
Leaving the horrible erroneous NFL story aside. His daughter, his freaking daughter he searched years for with loads of money involved (stupidly really, just get a lawyer to bust open that highly illegal adoption), you seriously gonna leave it with a cancer raddled daughter given up for adoption, he never gets to tell her, I’m your freaking father!!! I would be LIVID if I was that girl and when I turned 18 I found out that not only did my adopted parents LIE to me all those years, but when my bio dad came to see her, YOU TOOK HIS MONEY and then turned him away!!! HEARTLESS. I mean she talked to him for f sakes!! She has his signed jersey!!!
I am seriously thinking about not reading the rest of this series. I barely got through book 1 with the stupidity Sherry. I want to found out about the rest of the brothers, I just don’t think I can. I am super pissed.

DNF, I initially liked the story and characters....but spying on your own employee without much reason....and I quit the book when almost a half chapter of her evesdropping on Jocko and Everett in the bar where she worked. She's sneaky and not terribly smart. I ended not liking her character. She got caught twice snooping in his room or once, by following him to a park. He accepted her loosely veiled lies.
The likely hood of a very good player being treated like this for a very circumstantial case of "guilty by association" and heresay at that....no, not entertaining for me, at all. So I walked away.

First impressions are not always what they seem. When Emma and Everett first meet there is an instant feeling of hate and overblown ego, but when she ends up being hired as his PA all bets are off. But can the secrets that they are both hiding from each other ruin the relationship before they get to their HEA? Can they stand by their secrets when once they are revealed both of their careers are in jeopardy? Once again Mickey Miller creates a storyline that you cannot put down. I literally brought my kindle to a restaurant and read while having dinner with my family. The reader instantly feels for the characters and only wants to see their love survive. Cannot wait for more in the series.
I can't stop calling these two, Emma and Everett, E-squared. Loved them with their fiery chemistry. They both have their secrets. Not only is this their journey to each other but also their journeys towards inner peace. We discover Everett is hiding a heart of gold under his growly exterior. Emma is the key to unlocking him. Emma is feisty, intelligent, sweet, strong, kind, and too curious for her own good. Everett is like the lion with a thorn in his paw. These two are on fire from page one. These Brewer brothers give good story! Can't wait for Jocko's story. And so much feeling!! Broody, sexy, hotness is Everett to a tee! I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I liked the story enough but I didnt really like Emma. She was hired on the pretense of getting info on Everett but I feel like she wasnt gonna share anything unless he was doing something dangerous, cool. It's clear Everrett isn't. He's just secretive which is his prerogative but Emma is waaaaay too insistent, too much of a busybody, too nosy, no respect for personal space and too sneaky. And she's not good at hiding it. I dont understand how Everett could fall for, let alone trust someone who is clearly all in his shit and lying about it. And he knows it, he caught her every single time! If I catch someone (who is damn near a stranger) snooping in a room that I specifically say not to go into, you gotta get out. I'd be paranoid after that.

Loved Everett and Emma's story. Emma is hired on as a PA to the sexy, cocky, Everett. That can't be that bad can it? Boy, you are all in for a treat with this awesome book.
Sometimes author need to do a better research before throwing out plot twist that involved NFL banning as well a biological father which ripp off of his right just because the mother sign off solely his right without his knowledge at age 15
Here’s my point : H spent lots of money to get to know where his own daughter and plot twist he finally find it the girl has to get cancer and he have to accept just to be a “ sponsor “ and ripped off his right to get to know his daughter ????? With all the money he has please find a better LAWYER same goes to his case with his team
And never would I imagine this in my life, why would h get back so easy to his life after not being honest to him and have a quite scary stalking tendency - no grovelling worthies no matter how author tried to portrayed her to be a selfless person to care for her sister and kids , it’s not a reason for you to removed your moral and stalking someone privacy
Why I give two stars ? Because H have a great brother which came few times and give quite an entertainment & the other stars for a H which have self responsibility even tough he has all the money he stay decent no whoring around just being a straight football player
I can’t believe I didn’t review this the first time I read it! 🤦🏻♀️ let me tell you, I love it even more now. There is something so fun about rereading a MM book. It’s like coming home after vacation and getting comfy in your space again. You get to see some of your favorite people all over again and fall in love with new favorites. I can’t wait to read all about Jocko & Allie; although, maybe Everett & Emma will stay my favorite Brewer Brother couple for now. 😍
This is not your ordinary sports romance. Everett Brewer has many layers to him. He is a brother to 5 siblings, a football superstar and for all outward appearances he is an ill-tempered, irritable man. Everett is sexy, good looking, rich and can have anything or anyone he wants. So what is his problem? He has been harboring a secret for years and it has taken a toll on him and it has finally come to a head. The last thing he needs in his life right now is a P.A. that has been assigned to him to help him with his "workload".
Emma is a kind hearted woman that has a lot to deal with. She helps her single mom sister financially and by taking care of her niece when she can. She takes on a new position offered to her by the owners of a NFL football team to be a P.A. to one of their star players. The terms of the contract are a bit out of her comfort zone, but she needs the money, and boy is it a lot of money. It is too good to pass up.
Everett and Emma stumble through their business relationship, but it becomes clear it's more than just business. They both have secrets that put their relationship to the test. The question is can they both rise above all their personal conflicts to find each other at the end of it all.
First let me say...I really don't like when a heroine (it's always the female) does something with good intentions or has a secret that may reflect badly on her if a certain someone finds out without knowing her intent or the details, yet she delays and delays and misses every opportunity to come clean until it blows up in her face. Yes, it always works out in the end, but it just makes the heroine look stupid.
That being said, and aside from that issue, this really was a good story with a strong and sometimes snarky heroine. The characters were well developed. They each had there own issues and it's unfolded in the story in a believable manner. A coupler of other characters are featured prominently and are fairly developed for secondary characters. I see future stories for some of them.
Everett and Emma are at odds right from the start, as Everett gets under Emma’s skin with both his attitude about her less than glamorous job as well as his attractive physique. Then Emma is offered the opportunity to be closer to Everett Brewer than she ever dreamed possible, as his PA. Although this position requires Emma to do some things that are against her moral code, she eventually has to succumb and accepts the job, though she is determined not to give her boss any valuable information. Everett is just as determined not to let Emma into his life any more than is necessary, even though he is as attracted to her as she us to him. He is trying desperately to keep anyone from finding out his secret, as well as lead his football team to the championship.
This a great story and a must-read for any Mickey Miller fan, especially if you’ve read the story of Everett’s brother Maddox but this book can be read without having read the first in the series. I’m especially looking forward to Jocko’s story in the next book.
What a twisty and fun read this was!! I loved our first Brewer Brother from book 1, and here we have the second, equally addictive Brewer Brother. His mysteriousness and hidden secrets and surprise meeting with a girl dead set on uncovering them made for an addictive, couldn't-put-down read that had me up WAY too late. Everett's transformation had me reeling, because I wasn't a fan at first, and the Author did a great job in crafting the slow and steady progression from chance meeting to a steamy, hot enemies to lovers with twists and turns abound that left me fully entertained and reading well into the night to see how it turned out. Rife with emotion and angsty happenings, little breadcrumbs to leave you needing to find out, and smiling like a fool when I reached THE END. Can't wait for more Brewer Brothers!!
I have just discovered Mickey Miller and I’m having loads of fun reading. This romance was all about a grumpy NFL footballer and his PA Emma. Both Everett and Emma have secrets and it’s a story about trusting each other and forgiveness. It’s interesting to read a romance written by a guy. The sex scenes are great fun, loads of emotion but how can I explain? There is a difference in how the sex scenes unfold. A boldness, fun and cheeky. Yeah I like Mickeys style. I wouldn’t say they are keepers, more like relax, read, move onto the next fun story. I also identified with the ongoing comments about tipping. USA has truly reached a tipping point in tipping. It’s time employers charged more and paid more rather than expecting customers to subsidize their business.
I AM FASCINATED BY THESE SERIES . EVERETT IS A TOUGH COOKIE FOOTBALL PLAYER WITH A SECRET THAT EVERYONE WANT TO UNCOVER. EMMA IS A DETERMINATE, FIERCE AND KIND WOMAN WHICH ONLY JOB IS TO CRACK THE TOUGHNESS OUT OF THE BALL PLAYER AND UNLOCK THE SECRETS. LITTLE DID SHE KNOW THAT ON THIS LOVE AND HATE SCENARIO , MORE THAN JUST HER JOB IS AT TAKE. AWESOME BOOK I AM SURE YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE.
Holy crud! This book was everything. I felt and instant connection to the characters. Emma and Everett are just so friggin addicting to read about. You have the love hate relationship that just drawls you to them. Mickey has done it again.
This book checked off most of the items on my checklist. Hot✔️ Character Connection ✔️ Chemistry ✔️ Steamy/Crazy Plot Twist ✔️ No dull parts ✔️ Mentions bacon ✔️ Made me feel ✔️
Absolutely loved this book. It had all the feels along with a great storyline. The depth of these characters and the love scenes were oh la la HOT. I mean who doesn’t want to get held up literally by their lover and pleasured time and time again! I didn’t want this book to end! Mr. Miller is definitely a master at his craft. It’s very clear why this a top rated book. Pick it up you won’t be disappointed.
A sports romance with a twist. This story had me intrigued from chapter one and kept me guessing. Everett and Emma have this love/hate relationship with an instant spark. Not everything is as it seems and you will definitely want to read this to find out what happens next with these two. One of my favorite reads by this author and I look forward to his next story.
I expected a well written sports romance story, and that's exactly what Mickey Miller gave me. The second book in the Brewer Brothers series, The Hold Out offers humor, witty banter, suspense, mystery, secrets, a bit of drama, sexual tension, plenty of heat, a great storyline, and characters you can't help but love.
I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.
Emma Mets Everett at the hot dog stand, their first meeting not so good plus a video of that goes viral. However it gets Emma a new job working for him. His owners want her to spy on their own player. What starts as a job turns into so much more. So much I want to say but you really need to read this yourself
Wow. Loved the this book with the second Brewer brother. Everett and Emma enemies to lovers relationship. They start off a little rough but that what makes it so exciting. Everett has a secret and Emma is determined to find out what it is. Grab a copy and see what Everett is hiding and if their relationship will last.
Emma and Everette have a heated first encounter that ends up going viral and also gets her hired as his PA. There is tension at first but quickly turns quite intensely sexy. Throw in some family and career drama and this is a pretty fast paced steamy read with HEA..
