Disclaimer: While I sincerely wish that my review for this book is going to unbiased, I have to be honest when i say it might not be FOR IT HAS A CHARACTER NAMED AFTER ME!! EEPP!!! Still I have tried my level best to be objective for this review! :D

I had become a fan of the adventure and the world that Ms. Brooke created, ever since I read ,b>The Duchess Quest (Read My Review) as an ARC – so when she emailed me saying she LOVED my review and that she would try and incorporate my name in one of books! (you have no idea, how hard I squealed when I read that!)

So when she contacted me, telling me that her newest book actually has a character named Pavi? Yeah, I almost brought the whole house down! :D

AND THERE IS A BRILLIANT CHARACTER PAVI IN THIS ONE (yes, I am biased but she is actually brilliant - and I will be talking about her brilliance at the end of this review!) – but I am getting ahead of myself. Let’s talk about the book first!

Geo and Luccie are not only in an illicit relationship but are also in love; but Geo being the Prince of Tybiria and Luccie, being the daughter of a Baron; cannot hope to have a successful conclusion to their romance – and when Luccie finds out that her betrothal is being announced to someone else, she has no choice but to break Geo’s heart – especially when the biggest surprise comes in the fact that she has been betrothed to none other than Geo’s brother Dmitri, the Crown Prince of Tybiria.

Dmitri and Geo have the most wonderful relationship – both have their strengths and their weakness, but it is their respect and loyalty of each towards the other, that actually warmed my heart!

When Dmitri is kidnapped in an act of vengeance by the king of a rival kingdom, it Geo who volunteers to go forth and rescue him, without even aa hint of bitterness towards him for “stealing” the woman he fell in love with! But it is when Luccie stubbornly follows him to rescue Dmitri, is when the real action starts! There is a whole lot of misunderstanding between Geo and Luccie, so Luccie wants to take this time to clear the air as well as taking his back.

Dmitri, on the other hand is now imprisoned in fearful Wintersea fortress, highly formidable place; where it is not only difficult to get into, but also quite difficult to escape. It here, where Dmitri meets the one girl, who has the power to help him out of the prison: Pavlova Ward aka Pavi (YESSS!!! THAT IS MY NAME!!!)

So there are two plotlines simultaneously occurring – the rescue mission that Geo and Luccie are on and the friendship that Dmitri and Pavi (still smile so hard when I write this!) develop during his imprisonment!

I absolutely adore the way this author wove this story around! It worked seamlessly, connecting each and every character and a whole lot of secondary characters that could have ended up being too chaotic!

This was such a fun ride to read – not only it is written in a way that makes it all the easier to understand a world that you aren’t exactly known to – no complex language or situations to get lost in – all you need to do is read and get lost in a world that is brilliantly eloquent and wonderfully imaginative.

But honestly? That ending though - I never did see it coming! Another .5 Star added to the rating; just for THAT FREAKING AWESOME ENDING! ;)

C.K. Brooke writes some inventive stories – her mixing of different genres make it a wonderful respite from a real world. Her books are some of my top recommendations, especially if a reader adores fantasy genre, but isn't ready to leave the YA scene, and if they are ready try a little different mixture in their reading!

NOW ABOUT PAVLOVA WARD aka PAVI - I know she isn't me; and that this character isn't going to reflect who I am in reality; but I ABSOLUTELY ADORED HER! She is so different, yet an amazing character that I fell for from the moment I started to know her! She isn't the focus of the book; she is soo much more really! And you'll know it too; when YOU get to KNOW HER!)

"What are you reading?"

"Alfred Meignon's Order of Natural Philosophy: Volume I, III and V. And The Chronology of extinct Monarchs"

"And the scrolls?"

"Benson's Maps of Astro-Mathematical Values"

"What, no novels? No lyrics, no epics?"

"And why ever would I waste my time on such useless frivolity?" Pavi scoffed.

"Useless frivolity? Dmitri was incredulous. "Young lady, in what sort of nonsense have you been schooled? Why, fiction captures the heart of man, the very essence of the human experience through an entirely unique and uncopiable process!"

"As long as I'm stuck here," he grunted,"I am going to write my own novel."

Pavi snorted. "A novel." She couldn't think of anything less worthy of a person's time.

"Say, Pavi? I am wondering," he scratched his chin, "if you'd be willing to proofread what I have so far?" When she wasn't quick to answer, he appealed, "Seeing as you have impeccable grammar, who better to point out my errors?"

"I suppose I can take a look. Though I warn you, I've never read a novel, so I don't know how useful I'll be?"

(Seriously? Novels are frivoulous? What is WRONG WITH YOU, BOOK PAVI?)

"I am tired of not existing. They can keep Princess Jinver's daughter a secret, but shall not suppress Pavola Ward (aka Pavi!!!). For I will go into the world and make a name for myself."

(YOU GO GIRL! PAVI IS AWESOME! YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY CHECK OUT BOOK PAVI!!)

**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for honest review.**

Fantastic! Simply fantastic!

I had been impatiently waiting for the tour schedule to come out so I could get my review copy of this book. For some reason, the blurb hit my 'happy place' and I was anxious to get my hands on it. I received it and dove straight into it. I was not disappointed!

Lucie is in love with a prince. He seems to return her affections, and their love affair is a quiet and naughty secret between them. When her father informs her that he has chosen a husband for her, Lucie's heart is nearly ripped out of her chest. She will have to leave her beloved prince, Geo, behind.

Prince Georome will never be a king. And he's alright with that. He admires his older brother, Dmitri, and they have a bond that is obvious from the beginning. So when Geo learns that his lovely Lucie has somehow become betrothed to Dmitri, Geo can't do anything other than stand aside as his heart silently shatters inside him.

It isn't long (at all!) after the royal engagement is announced that Prince Dmitri is kidnapped from his kingdom by a ruthless enemy. Taken to a fortress in the north, Dmitri stands no chance of escaping and realizes his death is imminent.

But Geo isn't giving up on his brother so easily. I found it a bit strange that Geo's parents would agree to allow their only other heir to chase after the Crown Prince, but I overlooked it. After all, if Geo didn't leave to rescue Dmitri, we wouldn't have a story to tell! Lucie following Geo on the rescue mission was icing on the cake.

Dmitri surprised and impressed me the most. I expected (because I know myself) to fall for Geo, the ill-fated and tormented prince. And I did. But more than that, I fell head over heels for Dmitri. After he meets Pavi and opens up to her, we get to see a romantic and suave side of the somewhat nerdy prince.

When our characters come together and we are reminded of the elephant in the room engagement, I was cringing, and cringing, and cringing. My heart ached for each of them. But that ending was certainly worth it. When I reached the last page, I wanted to start all over again. And I definitely will re-read this one and check out this author's other books!

In closing...
Royalty, forbidden love, secret romance, and harlot-assassins? What more could one ask for in a fantasy romance story? Five awesome suns!

Lucie and the youngest prince, Geo as he likes to be called, have had a relationship of sort for some time now. They were intimate in every sense of the word but right as Geo is about to proclaim his true feelings for her, Lucie crushes his soul. Her father has chosen a husband for her and she is to be married. She convinces him that she and her future husband have also been intimate and that their affair was nothing more than fun. Of course this is not true. Lucie is madly in love with Geo and honestly doesn't know who she is marrying.

Geo shows up to his brother Dmitri's engagement announcement party brooding even more than normal. He can't get Lucie's betrayal out of his head no matter how hard he tries. Then his brother's bride is announced and it's Lucie...

However, he doesn't have a whole lot of time to panic about this because Dmitri is kidnapped by the army of another king. This king had grown insane after his wife passed on and had already tried to declare war on Geo and Dmitri's kingdom. But in the last battle, Geo managed to cut down the king's heir so they assumed it would be some time before they struck again.

Desperate to save his brother, Geo convinces his parents to let him go on a rescue mission to save him. Desperate to save Geo, Lucie goes with him. Will they get to Dmitri in time? Will Geo find out the truth about Lucie's feelings for him? Will it even matter since she is marrying Dmitri? Or will Dmitri have other plans for a bride that surprise everyone?

I love the premise of this book and I loved the way the adventure was laid out. I did have a bit of an issue placing the genre. It seemed a little young for just fantasy and a little mature for ya. The voice seemed to be in a fight with it's own identity. However, this didn't really bother me as I like to read both of them.

Geo is such a great character. Your heart aches for him and his love for Lucie. I thoroughly enjoyed the way that Brooke set up their love affair in a world where the very thought of love is so ignored. Geo didn't fall in love with Lucie overnight at a ball but rather he pined for her. This is something missing in a lot of books from this period in my opinion.

This is a fun novel but there is mention of more intimate scenes that make some ya readers uncomfortable. I wouldn't say it was too much but I'm just putting it out there.

Looking for a fairy tale adventure with a harlot assassin, action, castle, and star crossed lovers, then I'd recommend this book!

Two princes. One bride. A dire misunderstanding…

Geo and Dmitri are the princes of Tybiria. Though Geo is the obvious athlete, it's bookish Dmitri that yields the credit - and consequences - for slaying a foreign prince. But whose arrow really struck the boy?

Luccia Camerlane is the Baron of Backshore’s enigmatic daughter...as well as Prince Geo’s secret mistress…until she learns of her disastrous betrothal to none other than his brother, Prince Dmitri.

When Dmitri is abducted by the deranged King of Llewes, star-crossed lovers Geo and Lucie must set aside their woes and differences to rescue the Crown Prince from the formidable Wintersea fortress. A precocious castle ward, a fascinating love-quadrangle, and a hit-woman harlot complete this action packed rom com in another wickedly fast-paced fantasy adventure from C.K. Brooke, author of The Red Pearl and the Books of Jordinia.

Rating: 4.25/5 Penguins
Quick Reasons: YAY for more Jordinia!; this premise was super entertaining; well-rounded, complex characters; fast-paced, humorous (at times), romantically-charged plot; C.K. Brooke is awesome at penning headstrong, independent characters

Huge thanks to C.K. Brooke and 48fourteen Publishing for sending me a free copy of this title in exchange for an honest voluntary review! This in no way altered my read of or opinions on this book (because Penguins, you all KNOW I go absolutely gaga for Jordinia--and if you don't know that, you should).

"You've lived all your life by a lake, and you've little experience swimming?"

She twisted her hair into a knot. "You know, man is permitted to lift off his tunic and dive into a body of water any old day, regardless of onlookers. But seldom may a lady remove so much as a glove."

Okay, Penguins--I have to come clean. I absolutely cannot imagine a world where I don't go GAGA for Jordinia! (bet you thought I'd say Cocoa Puffs, didn't you? WRONG! although Cocoa Puffs sound really tasty right about now.)

Well-known slogans for cereal aside, I cannot think of a time I picked up a book by C.K. Brooke and didn't come out absolutely loving the world/characters. Seriously, everything this woman writes is, in my opinion, almost absolute perfection--this book being just another example of such! So I'm going to start with the characters. C.K. Brooke knows how to write complex, headstrong, fiercely independent personalities. Every one leaps off the page and into reality for me while reading; I can imagine them almost entirely, from their reactions to their words. They are so well-written, in fact, I leave each novel feeling as if I've just said goodbye to very dear friends.

Could a broken heart truly be healed? Or could it only be patched with distance and distraction, until trained to beat to a different rhythm?

Once again, the plot of this read is fast-paced and filled with humor, romance, and drama. I thoroughly enjoy following each of C.K. Brooke's characters and learning the different ways they tick...but I ALSO enjoy watching them interact with and react to the world surrounding them! Each story is filled with believable emotions and situations; my poor penguin heart usually winds up a twisted mess of FEELS by the end of chapter one, which should tell you just how immersive and awesome these books always are!

I am so happy to have been able to pick up yet another Jordinia story! The characters are just as colorful and realistic as always. C.K. Brooke definitely knows how to weave her worlds around readers, and keep them fully entrenched until the very end! I recommend this (or any of her novels!) to lovers of fantasy, fantastic world-building, and SO MANY BUTTERFLIES! Saddle up your trusty steed, Penguins; the rescue is afoot!

A girl, who is friends with the two princes and dreams of one, is suddenly engaged to the other, courtesy of the king. The characters are wonderful and the banter and twists in the story keep it going. Romance is played as a game sometimes, as lies and some truths are told to avoid hurt feelings and other times to give strength. All four kids are pushed to be more than they already are. The story has so many side stories going at once that it almost seems impossible that a good conclusion can come to pass. Should it?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story with great characters, romance and intrigue. She was the daughter if a Baron and was having an affair with the younger Prince when she found out she would be engaged to a mystery person. It happened to be the older Prince. At the party to celebrate the announcement, they were encased by their enemy and the older Prince killed the 13 year old crown Prince enemy and was captured. Finally the king let the younger Prince go alone to rescue him and she followed. They went through so much to rescue him and the ending was great. Another spectacular story from CK

As always, the heroines are fearlessly fantastic. Strong and capable in their own right yet madly in love with their men. Her hero’s are as perfect as ever, making me even more positive that Jordinia is where I want to be! In this insanity we call real life right now, this is a much needed respite of happy endings!

**I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest voluntary review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

Adventure stories are not my favourite reads. I find them boring and drawn out but there is just something about C K Brooke's adventure stories that keep me coming back. I'm always entertained when I read her books thanks to their twisting, never dull plots and the eclectic cast of characters.

This is a classic example of her great flare for writing fun yet heartwarming YA adventures.

The synopsis gets it right: "Action packed rom-com" is the perfect way to describe this plot. This story was the perfect mix of fun, serious and heartwarming all at once. I just loved the way the story kept building and moving. Yes, it helps that we get multiple character POVs so we are constantly getting new layers to the story. Like the Jordinia Series, reading this book had me thinking about The Princess Bride and how they have similar vibes and styles when it comes to plot development and interesting characters.

All the female characters are strong and independent so that was great to see. I thought the character development was good for the shorter length of the story. Everyone is complex and we get enough backstory to get a solid read on their characters so that was great.

While the love-quadrangle is definitely at play, I think you know where everyone's hearts lie so there isn't anything overly frustration about the love triangle. It doesn't become the main focus of the novel though it does play a role in the overall story.

Tybiria has two princes, Dmitri and Geo. Dmitri is the oldest and also the crown prince. Dmitri loves to read and hopes to become a writer one day. Geo is the one who's physically stronger. He is a great knight who excels during battles. During an ongoing war with another kingdom Geo and Dmitri both fire an arrow which kills the crown prince of Llewes. The arrows that were shot both had the initials of Dmitri on it, so he is being held responsible for the death of the young prince.

Luccia has a secret affair with Geo. Even though it is not common for a young lady to be intimate with a man outside of wedlock Luccia can't resist Geo. They love each other very much even though they haven't said it out loud. Luccia's father informs her that he has found a husband for her. Luccia thinks she will never be eligible for marriage to a prince, so she needs to push Geo away the only way she knows how. Luccia is attending a party at the castle when it is announced that Luccia is being promised to marry Dmitri. Luccia and Dmitri have never met before, but Geo thinks they have. At this party Dmitri is being kidnapped by the King of Llewes. Luccia and Geo have no other choice and are leaving to have a chance at rescuing Dmitri before it's too late.

Geo and Dmitri are completely different, but they do love each other. They would do anything for one another and they are also not competitive at all. Geo feels torn because he loves Luccia. He's a young man who had his share of women. He is strong, well built and extremely wealthy. Geo only wants two things, to rescue his brother from a certain death and to marry the woman he loves. He is a great and smart warrior. Even though he is rich he doesn't look down on people and recognizes their true value by noticing who they are inside. Dmitri is so sweet. He is a skilled writer and has never even touched a woman. He fills his endless days writing a novel and hoping for a way out before he runs out of time. I was curious to find out what would happen to the two brothers.

Luccia is a confident young woman. She grew up with her father. Luccia never knew her mother, since she tragically died giving birth to her. Luccia is smart and she is a quick thinker. This sometimes gets her into trouble, but you can't help but love her just the way she is. Luccia knows what's expected of her and she wouldn't do anything to discredit her father. If she is promised to Dmitri Luccia will do exactly as she is told, even though she's given her heart to Geo. I really liked the fact that Luccia isn't a person who complains. She is determined to succeed at every task that's being thrown her way. I like strong female main characters and she definitely falls into that category.

The Wrong Prince is a story full of adventure, which takes the reader on an exciting journey, the mission to rescue Dmitri. I loved how all the pieces keep falling into place, chapter after chapter. The added extra elements are making this story intriguing. The whole time I was keeping my fingers crossed for the right outcome, because I always want true love to overcome everything else. C.K. Brooke kept me guessing until the end. The plot is amazing and I didn't see it coming. The Wrong Prince is a great romantic story with a fantasy twist that feels completely natural. I loved this wonderful book.

Dmitri and Geo are unique as brothers in the time period this takes place. they are royalty but Dmitri the oldest only loves and encourages Geo. He lets him feel love and safe. that he is worth more than being just second born.

Dmitri is the crown prince. He isn’t the greatest athlete but he is sweet and honest. He is kind and gentle and lives in books.

Geo is competitive and as close as he is to his brother he does harbour some resentment towards him. He isn’t a bad person he just wants more. He is in love with Lucy and she is betrothed to his brother so jealousy is rearing its head as well.

Lucy is odd. she is good at heart but her way of walking from Geo was hurtful. Lucy though is strong and not like women of this age. She has a mind, feelings, opinions and lets others know how she is feeling and uses her mind. When Dmitri is mistaken or maybe he isn’t as the one who kills the King enemies son by accident Lucy goes with Geo to rescue him from wintersea. On this journey both Geo and Lucy realize so many things. For Geo he realizes how lucky he was to have Dmitri as his brother. He realized that his brother only encouraged and loved him and wanted to see him happy and succeed. For Lucy she realizes who her heart belongs to. She lets Geo know the truth and gives him solace that his brother isn’t bad or hurt him.

While they are on the dangerous journey to save Dmitri, many truths are revealed. We see how mad the enemy king is and it was brought on by grief. We see the underground rebellion and how Geo is close to them without knowing. We see an assassin have a heart and conscious. We see the tortures of King Ian on his own people. We also see Geo and Lucy learn more about one another and see how strong Lucy really is.

Dmitri in the meantime has some journey as well while in his cell. He realizes who he is. He finds love and helps her see that novels are not frivolous. In this process he also shows us how gentle hearted he is. When Pavota (may have spelled name wrong so sorry) tells him her dreams, he sacrifices his chance at love and survival so she pursues them. He respects her and encourages her to become who she is meant to be. This is one very selfless and kind crown prince. He may not be as good looking on the outside but his inside soul makes him gorgeous. His survival was dangerous intriguing and wonderful. Watching him fall for the ward and give her hope and encouragement was great. Seeing her shine and grow from his words was wonderful. The escape is dangerous fast paced and heartbreaking as well. Watching love propel those to do heroic things and take chances at the end was terrific. The parents of Geo, Dmitri and Lucy trying to do what will make their children happy but being mistaken was cute because what they were doing was out of love.

The ending is sweet and wonderful and funny. We get so many happy endings and love shine through. this is a fast paced entertaining story that has people shine under love and find courage to help others and sacrifice as well. this is the tale of two princes, their love for each other, a complex love quadrangle, sacrifice, escape and finding love.

Lucie is in love with the prince, but as a daughter of a Baron, she knows she will never be allowed to be with him. To make matters worse, as the story opens, she finds out she has become engaged to a man according to her father, and she is obedient to her father. So she makes the heartbreaking decision to cut ties with the prince whom she has given her heart to.

Meanwhile, said prince, Geo, and his older brother, Dmitri, are in battle when they both shoot arrows at the enemy, one specific Llewesian. Of course, the poor solider turns out to be the crowned prince of Llewes, the only heir, and the mourning king of Llewes becomes an even more poignant enemy to Tybiria.

Right after the battle, the King and Queen of Tybiria host an engagement announcement party for their crowned prince, Dmitri. And you've guessed it, Lucie is the lucky girl. Before Geo can even fully realize what happened - his love is not engaged to his brother - the Llewesian army sweeps in and kidnaps Dmitri. And of course the adventure begins...

And why I gave this only three stars, when I actually enjoyed the story...

I understand that the romance between Lucie and Geo early in the book was there so we would know just how much they loved each other. But the scenes are bit too explicit for the style of the writing. The intimate moments between these two reads like a mature YA book, yet the rest of the story, plotting, and adventure reads like a teen book. I simply wish there would have been a way to leave out some of the details of their need to sneak around to meet...

Also, later in the book, there is a point where they enter a brothel to find some assistance in the ongoing battle of the two kingdoms, and again, for just this scene the terms used are more mature than the rest of the book. Overall this is very much a fairy tale story, that should be a fun read for young teens, but some topics, in the detail described, are simply not necessary.

Luccia is forced to break up with the younger prince of Tybiria, Geo. She does this because she has an arranged marriage to the Crown Prince, Dmitiri. When Dmitri is kidnapped by the mad King of Llewes, Luccia and Geo goes on a mission to rescue him. Can Luccia and Geo ever admit their feelings for each other? Can the two star-crossed lovers be reunited?

I really did like the two female protagonists, Luccia and Pavola. They were very smart and sassy. I liked how Luccia was very brave to go on a mission to save a man that she barely knows. She has been very courageous and stubborn. She is willing to prove herself a good rescuer in front of Geo. She can also be very caring and loving at times to strangers. I really loved her relationship with Geo. He was a great male hero. He is wounded by Luccia’s rejection. However, I love how he still loves and cares for Luccia and takes great lengths to protect her. I also liked Pavola and Dmitri’s blossoming romance. Both of them start to bond over their love of books. I really like how both brothers were different, for one was a warrior and the other was a scholar, and were very lovable protagonists.

Overall, this book is about love, family, and acceptance. The message of this book is that there is always hope. The characters are very well-developed. They are lovable, strong, and witty. I also thought the fantasy world was very well built. While I was reading it, the setting seemed to be very similar to Medieval Wales. The Wrong Prince is very fast-paced and it grips you from the first page until the very end. I also found it be a light and quick read with a captivating romance. I also loved the happily ever after ending, and I liked how everything was tied up neatly. Overall, I recommend this book to Dani-Lyn Alexander, Kary Rader, and J.D. Wright.

Author: C. K. Brooke

This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

Lucy is the mere daughter of a baron, and her heart's sole-desire is Georome, or Geo as the prince is known. The two star-crossed lovers, for nine moons, have no more of a chance of being together than Romeo and Juliet did. And, when Lucy found out her father had betrothed her, she knew she was going to have to make a clean, permanent break with Geo. In order to ensure this happened, she was going to have to lie to Geo. The lie was going to have to hurt Geo, to the point where he was going to have to finally move on without her. And, of even more importance, it was going to have to secure their safety, and the honour of their families.

At a party, given by the king, the announcement is made of the crown prince's betrothal - to Lucy. Both knew they were betrothed to someone, but neither knew to whom. When Geo realizes Lucy is now engaged to his brother he wonders, how is this even possible? Lucy, being a baron's daughter, couldn't possibly be engaged to his brother. Well she is, and she's also the future queen of Tybiria.

Shortly after the celebration begins, the Liewesian army invades the castle, and kidnaps Dimitri. Geo's convinces his father, the king, to let him go after Dimitri - alone. And Lucy, knowing Geo is going after Dimitri, decides she's going with him, whether he likes it or not.

Come join Geo and Lucy, as they join forces to save Dimitri. Find out about their incredible quest, an adventure that includes lost boys, swamps, sea creatures and yes, even the Red Pearl. That's right, the Red Pearl. And, as far as I know, there's only ever been mention of one Red Pearl. Oh, and is there a chance, again, the two might become one? Hopefully, since Lucy knows she will never love another.

I generously received an ARC from YABound Book Tours in exchange for an honest review...

The Wrong Prince is the first book I've read by C.K. Brooke, but I can tell you now that it won't be my last!

In my opinion, this book has sort of a Romeo and Juliet vibe because of Luccia and Prince Geo’s star-crossed love affair. Luccia is the daughter of the Baron of Backshore, but she’s also Prince Dmitri’s (Geo’s older, less athletic brother) bride-to-be. If you love a story filled with action, adventure and a little bit of star-crossed love, then you'll fall in love with this one. The Wrong Prince was an absolutely fantastic read that kept me turning each and every page until the very end. This book was so amazing that I had a hard time putting it down because I just wanted to devour the words on every page. I’m also a sucker for authors who mix in illustrations because it allows the readers an inside look at the world within a book. The map was a great added feature to this book. I want to encourage you all to take a few moments to scan the map before beginning the story because it’s an awesome illustration and a fun element to the story!

If you want to find out what happens between Luccia, Geo and Dmitri, pick up a copy of The Wrong Prince by C.K. Brooke!

This was a really cute story. It sort of reminded me of what happens when you get a bunch of kids together and play telephone and the truth of what was said at the start somehow dissolves into something barely related to it. Personally, it took me a bit to get really invested in this story, and that was largely because of the opening scene. It was relevant to the plot, of course, but battle scenes don’t often appeal to me unless they’re tucked later into the book. All in all, though, I really did enjoy this story.

There were parts of it that I found to be just a tad predictable, but there were also elements that completely surprised me! The characters were endearing and I became attached to them rather quickly. Quite honestly, I was so attached to Mit and Pavi that I had to fight the urge to speed through the chapters they weren’t involved in.

From time to time, I find a novel where the antagonist is not at all what I expect, and this novel had that element, as well. While King Ira was, undoubtedly, not a very good person, I was surprised to find things about him that I could sympathize with. I very nearly pitied him in his grief, though I would certainly not suggest that that grief excused any of his actions. I found the story to be well-crafted and the characters to be exceptionally well thought out. Definitely a fun read!

I read this book once and could not stop until the end. When I opened it a second time to refresh my memory so I could leave a review, I read it through again, staying up long past my bedtime.
The story starts the way most fairy tales end, with the heroine chosen as the bride of a prince. Although bespectacled, uncoordinated and with his nose always in his book, Crown Prince Dmitri is a likable and handsome man. Unfortunately, in author CK Brooke's fast-paced story, Lucie's betrothed is "The Wrong Prince." It is his brother, Geo, who really owns Lucie's heart. Because she wants to do right by her family and her country, she vows her beloved will never know of her true feelings, but when Dmitri is kidnapped by an enemy of her nation, she stubbornly insists on joining Geo's quest to save him. The pair's trust and admiration for each other grows with every step of the adventure, which is fraught with thieving forest urchins, underground rebels and a “lady of the night’ who is also a hired killer. Meanwhile, Dmitri, imprisoned and left to die in the castle keep, forms an unlikely friendship that could save them all. Don’t choose this as bedtime reading if you hope to get a full night’s sleep!
