In Things That Shine , Ariane Signer takes us on a non-linear journey through some of the moments that shaped her life. At a crossroads between the darkness and the light, Signer turned to her first passion, writing, to help her make sense of past traumas and anxious thoughts. Compiling two decades worth of journal entries, ideas and feelings, her witty humour and refusal to surrender to the dark side will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy, on the inside. A testament to the human condition, and the depth of emotion, this collection is sure to please light seekers, skeptics and the perpetually enlightened.
Ariane Signer has been writing her thoughts, fears and dreams in journals since the early 90's. A personal development and self-help junkie, she has been working as a creative freelance writer since 2016. A native Canadian, she has found her home in small town Switzerland, where she lives with her husband and two young sons.
The author asked me if I could do a review on her poem anthology and I said yes. Even if poems or life finding subjects are not strictly my cup of tea I read her poems and think those poems can really help people. If you feel you have to get out of the dark and into the light, if you want to wind your way up on the streets of life, if you want to see light in your head, hate the dead in your feet, if you want to run for the hills the author has many poems that can show you the way. There is low life in the dark places around us and disappearing ghosts. But with those modern poems in mind you learn not to retreat or surrender. You shine on brightly. There will be a new morning for you. Highly recommended first hand poems!
I have read many poems over the years - some great and others that don't really get a reaction from me. With Things That Shine, I felt something strong.
It took me a while to put my finger on how I felt reading this collection of poems. I felt strong emotion from the author. Really strong emotion. A mix of emotions too.
Then I realised, around half way through the book that it felt as though I was watching someone grow up and live their life. I was imagining Ariane. I was a spectator in her life -I was experiencing with her the good, the bad, the difficult. It actually reminded me of my own journey in life in some ways. It represented the journeys we all have to take in life.
This was a good collection of poems. I imagine they're empowering to women, in fact, to anyone!
