Sputtering, fluttering, firghting and squirming? As life gets busier and to-do lists get longer, we're told to stop being busy, remove the stress, and escape the pressure. And yet--sometimes we're called not to escape it--we're called into it. We have choices in the chaos-filled times. We can sputter and flutter and fight and squirem. Or we can learn to rest, even in the struggle. And oh the joy we find in learning to live...unruffled
Edie Melson is a woman of faith with ink-stained fingers who has been known to announce that she's creative out of self-defense. With an artist-mother and musician-turned-photographer-father, she'd have been a disgrace if she hadn’t been true to her own brand of creativity. She’s a writer who feels lost without her camera and a reluctant speaker who loves to encourage an audience. And she embraces the ultimate contradiction of being an organized creative.
As an instructor, she’s encouraged and challenged audiences across the country and around the world. Her numerous books, including the award-winning Soul Care series, reflect her passion to help others develop the strength of their God-given gifts and apply them to their lives. She lives in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains where she spends time off hiking with her husband and her camera. Connect with her on www.EdieMelson.com and through social media.
Edie & Rhonda tell wonderful and anecdotal stories of when their feathers have been ruffled. We’ve all had our moments. I finished this book during the holidays, which is the perfect time to read this book. Whether big or small, Edie & Rhonda remind us that God wants to be involved in all aspects of our lives. With wit, charm, understanding, and compassion, these devotions remind us that we all need a Savior. This should be required reading for every Christian at the onset of the holidays. It would also make a wonderful gift.
How did these ladies know when they wrote this book in 2019 how valuable it would be in 2020? As terrific writers on their own - throw them together in this book and how could it be bad?
Through their experiences, they offer wisdom and encouragement to keep on going. Toss in a splash of humor here and there and it made it an enjoyable read as well as inspiring.
At the end of each chapter, they offer reflective and actionable questions to take you to the next level.
This book is good for your own personal use as well as a great gift for a friend or two who's world just might seem upside down at the moment! Like most of us this year.
I enjoyed this humourus and insightful look at life and coping with all of the problems that life can throw your way. It is always fun to be able to laugh in the midst of struggles. I thought the Biblical appplications were fabulous.
Edie Melson and Rhonda Rhea bring together a delightful combination of wit, charm and charisma to help us deal with the craziness in life that can cause us to become unruffled.
When life gets busy and stressful, we can find ourselves unruffled and squirming to make sense of our lives and all we have going on. The chaos can become overwhelming and we lose focus of the choice we have to rest and reset our focus on the One that can help us in these most difficult of times. Edie Melson and Rhonda Rhea bring about difficult topics that everyone can relate to and give readers tools to help cope with the hardships.
For me, one of the most helpful chapters was dealing with Smoothing the Emotional Ruffles. Edie Melson hit home with every sentence she wrote. Emotions, especially my own, can easily get the best of me and when I react to a situation based purely on emotion I become unruffled in the worst way. Each and every chapter helps to see that even in the chaos we encounter, we can find ways to thrive and grow to become the very best version of ourselves we can be. The personal examples both authors provide throughout the chapters help readers to see that these aren’t words on a page without experience and meaning behind them. These two ladies know what they are talking about and want us all to be able to thrive.
As the holiday season approaches, the chaos and unruffling will undoubtedly increase for a lot of us and it is nice to have a resource to turn to that will help get our mind where it needs to be so we can keep our heart where it should be as well. I recommend this book to everyone! It doesn’t matter if you are in chaos now, already been through it, or it might be coming your way, there is something here for everyone and every situation you might be facing. Take heart and get ready to Thrive.
Many of us walk through life feeling ruffled—uncomfortable with our circumstances and who we are. If your feathers ever feel bent or unable to sustain you in flight, Unruffled is the book for you. Melson and Rhea make a perfect writing team, combining raw personal transparency with a disarming humor that draws you into a deeper realization of truth. Unruffled is filled with hope and new perspectives that help the reader thrive in the chaos of everyday life rather than simply surviving. It’s heart-warming and clever. The action-focused questions at the end of each chapter make the lessons in this book applicable and real to your own life. Its encouraging tone makes this a perfect read for anyone who wants to walk through the struggles of life with centered strength.
