Lawrence is a vampire who's had a rough couple hundred years.

His old mini-van will barely start, his hunting victims have been fighting back, and lives bereft of friends in a tiny apartment... when he can afford that luxury. Fortunately, he has the ability to almost literally 'make' friends, and things start to turn around when he brings in a couple stray animals. Do vampires really need pets? Turns out, he's going to need all the help he can get: the elder vampire Council has a hunter out for him as they think he's set to fulfill a prophecy to overthrow them.

Fangs is a light-hearted vampire book that reminds us that just because you're immortal doesn't mean you're good looking, well-off, or instantly popular. Sometimes being immortal is just as difficult as being mortal.

It's a rough un-life.

Intriguing and almost humorous view on vampires

When I first started reading I thought this was going to be a cute story about a vampire and his pets. But it quickly became an intricate mystery and story of the origins and society of vampires. Fascinating perspective.

Ever thought an immortal being could suffer the ultimate defeat of death? It typically isn't common amongst vampires and those alike, but it is interesting to note that anything is possible, especially those deemed as impossible.

In "Fangs," author Frank Barvitch introduces his readers to Lawrence Hermanson, an immortal being who witnessed quite a few centuries walking amongst the earth with a unique vampiric ability, to turn animals into immortal creatures, while not killing humans. From his most recent injuries occurring at the time of his latest feeding sprees, he barely made it out, as his victim was armed and ready for anything sprung upon him. This caused Lawrence a slow healing response that was unlikely to happen to vampires, an underlying tone that something was seriously affecting him on a deeper level. While Lawrence is doing his utmost best to stay deadly alive, along with his furry companions, a cat named Lady de Winter and a dog named Mac, he sets out on a mission to keep surviving. The Council is an elite group of vampiric individuals, a formed vampire government that has kept tabs on Lawrence. Unfortunately, his special abilities weren't tolerated and they made plans to rid him of their community, completely. Out of survival, Lawrence is fighting to stay alive though he's growing weaker by the day, what he likes to call "vampire flu." Everyone that poses a problem to the Council gets executed swiftly without hesitation.

I enjoyed reading this book as vampires fascinate me. It was interesting to witness and learn new things about the vampiric lifestyle, their capabilities, and whatever their weaknesses are. I highly recommend this book to everyone, learn exactly whether Lawrence can escape from the Council's clutches, or if the "vampire flu" finishes him.

Fangs is one of those books that you just don’t know what you’re getting until you start reading. It’s a vampire story—with a twist. It’s a mystery story—with a twist. It’s a paranormal story—with a twist. The mishmash of similar, yet rarely intersecting, genres makes this an interesting story.

Lawrence is a compelling character. His pets are a fun aspect of the story. The action picks up quickly and keeps you guessing throughout. The twists are neither predictable nor illogical. It keeps the story fun and light even when there are serious dangers lurking around every corner.

Lawrence is a down on his luck vampire who lives in a small apartment in Milwaukee. Fangs is a different and often humorous take on the vampire genre. As the story begins, Lawrence is three months behind on his rent and on the verge of eviction. He is still recovering from being shot by one of his prey from the night before.
Soon he finds himself at a cheap hotel with weekly rates where he sneaks his coffin into the room! What would the maid say? He takes the bullet out of his chest with tweezers and thinks about his past lovers which are many since he has lived for five hundred years. Lawrence wishes for a companion.
A couple of days later, Lawrence seeks out his next victims who hang out in an alley near the hotel. He is able to “Awaken” the two into vampires. These new vampires turn out to be a dog and a cat who become friends with Lawrence. He takes them to his hotel room. The dog's name is Mac and Lawrence names the cat Lady de Winter or “Lady” for short. All three of them are able to speak to one another telepathically.
Lawrence and his vampire animals are low on funds. Mac suggests that they target drug dealers since they have lots of money. This idea seems good enough, so with Mac's help they are successful in robbing a drug dealer, but the dealer is not who he seems.
Meanwhile, an old awakened friend of Lawrence named Stephanie has visions of Lawrence being in danger from the powerful Council that governs all vampires. She wants to warn him of this impending threat.
Barvitch has written a good dark comedy. There is fun dialogue between Lawrence and the animals who become a strong team despite their differences. I found myself hoping Lawrence and his friends would succeed and feed happily ever after.
