This Blue Ridge town was supposed to be a new beginning, but can it also be the setting for a second chance? BRING ME HOME * Melissa Storm For Hazel Long, spending time with her bedridden father is bittersweet. There's comfort in the friendship offered by other hospital visitors--and the kindness of a handsome male nurse. And when Hazel's father begins to tell her the story of the mother she barely knew, it's an unexpected chance to bond, and a lesson in making the most of each new day.
Fern Michaels isn’t a person. I’m not sure she’s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence. Fern Michaels® is what I DO. Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir. Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth. I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day. To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was ‘a dinky little thing’ weighing in at four and a half pounds. However, I answer to Fern since people are more comfortable with a name they can pronounce.
As they say, the past is prologue. I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids. When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job. Those were his exact words. I didn’t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother. I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like. The library was a magical place for me. It still is to this day. Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book. For some reason that didn’t intimidate me. As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does. Guess what, I don’t have that husband any more. Guess what else! I wrote 99 books, most of them New York Times Best Sellers.
Moving right along here . . . Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina. I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time. It was a breeze. The kids were all on their own at that point. The dump was a 300 year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled. Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss. Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate. This ghost has been documented by previous owners. Mary Margaret as we call her, is “a friendly”. She is also mischievous. It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn’t like my coffee cups. They would slide off the table or counter or else they’d break in the dishwasher. I bought red checkered ones. All are intact as of this writing. She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at 9:10 in the a.m. at least once a week. When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand. I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day. She doesn’t spook the dogs. I always know when she’s around because the five of them line up and look like they’re at a tennis match. As of this writing we’re co-habiting nicely.
Most writers love what they do and I’m no exception. I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper. I love breathing life into my characters. I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that’s what I had to do to get to this point in time. It’s another way of saying it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what matters is where you’re going and how you get there. The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe it. I’ve been telling stories and scribbling for 37 years. I hope I can continue for another 37 years. It wasn’t easy during some of those years. As I said, I had to persevere. My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot. She said when God is good to you, you have to give back. For a while I didn’t know how to do that. When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels® Foundation.
Review for ~ New Beginnings in Blue Hollow Falls by Donna Kauffman ~ only.
I love the little vignettes we get with side characters that take me back to BHF, I love the place, the people and everything Donna has shared with her readers about it so far. We get to catch up with Seth & Pippa as well as Moira and Hudson as Katie and Declan’s reconnection plays out.
Ten years, five months, two weeks and four days…
That is how long it has been since Declan has set eyes on the love of his life Katie (not that he has been counting or anything). They parted on a mixed message, and being young and inexperienced have let it keep them separate for the following decade. Now older and wiser they try communicating with each other directly for the first time about what happened and it would seem that both of them got completely the wrong end of the stick.
He was it for her… The one. Period. Full stop.
Loved it, a great little addition to the series, as well as an indication at the end, that the author is way from finished with giving us stories from it, which make me extremely happy.
"Something about this place..."

REVIEW FOR 'BLUE HOLLOW FALLS: NEW BEGINNINGS' ONLY:
I loved visiting Blue Hollow Falls again (even just for a novella)! I think I've missed a few stories in between the regular novels because some couples I was not aware of. Katie and Declan's romance was short but long in the making. So sweet! I do feel like I need a family tree chart for this series now!! :-)
Home Sweet Home is a collection of three short stories by three different authors, all of which involve homecomings. The story by Fern Michaels is a spy thriller romance. The story by Donna Kauffman is a traditional romance, and the story by Melissa Storm is about a family battling cancer. All three are entertaining reads about family, love , and heartache. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.
I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley. My review is voluntary.
I enjoyed this book of stories. Fern Michaels' was interesting, the best of the lot to me was Donna Kauffman's, as I adore here Blue Hollow Falls series. The Melissa Storm's was harder for me to read as I was expecting more of a sweet story only to be reading a heartbreaking story of a dad dying of cancer though the heroine meets her true love at the hospital. Good story but not what I was expecting with the other two.
Home, Sweet Home is by Fern Michaels, Donna Kauffman, and Melissa Storm. The book contains a novella by each of them. They are quick to read and also a lot of fun. All three are great writers but this novella length does not do them credit. I wanted more from each novel. It seemed like they were doing really well, then jumped to the ending, leaving a lot of information out. Otherwise the books are great.
I wish I could rate each of the 3 stories separately. The 1st was okay but I wasn't thrilled with the ending. The 2nd I had trouble getting into and after a couple chapters I just skimmed over until the end. The 3rd was the only one I really liked. Since I didn't like the first 2 much I am giving it a low rating.
There are 3 stories in Home Sweet Home. They all revolve around family. No matter what you do you can always come home. 😀 #1 THREE'S A CROWD- this one kept me guessing what was going on with Samantha and the mystery man. #2 NEW BEGINNINGS IN BLUE HOLLOW FALLS- Loved the story of Katie & Declan. This one has a lot of family members but you can follow along easily and tell they all care for each other. #3 BRING ME HOME- this one had me crying. Loved how Mr. Long had protected the memory of Hazel's mom for her.
I’m sorry, but I couldn’t get past the first story. I don’t even understand what the title “Three’s a Crowd” has to do with anything. It was the most implausible, corny story I’ve ever read. And one REALLY GLARING goof when the main character’s mom calls her the wrong name! Don’t waste your time on this one.
This is a wonderful book of three stories from Fern Michaels, Donna Kauffman and Melissa Storm. I have had the pleasure of reading books by Fern Michaels and Melissa Storm in the past to which I have always enjoyed but it a first time read by Donna Kauffman. Each story is about a Homecoming of different types but the main message in each was the love of home and family no matter how you have lived your life until now.
THREE’S A CROWD - Fern Michaels **** Samantha Stewart has not been home in over 3 years, but she finds it time. Time to face the past and live for the future in the place she calls home. Thes last three years have been wonderful, eye-opening, scary, frightening but she would not change a single thing about who her life has a war correspondent.
Its Mother's day weekend as she returns home to her parent's place, but she is not returning alone. She has her 8-month-old daughter with her, a daughter she has not told her parents about even though she has been in contact with them during her time overseas.
She cannot explain what has happened in Afghanistan or even about the father of her child. Will her parents forgive her about the dispersion, and will they accept their granddaughter with love?
I love the story right up to the very last character but the ending for me was too rushed; it felt uncompleted to me.
NEW BEGINNINGS IN BLUE HOLLOW FALLS - Donna Kauffman *****
As I have not read anything by Donna Kauffman before I soon learnt that this novella is part of a series "Blue Hollow Falls" that going by this books sounds great. I loved all the characters in this book and would love to read the other books as well.
This story is a second chance romance where it has been Ten years, five months, two weeks and four days according to Declan MacGregor when he sees his childhood friend/ sister Katie again. Declan was taken in by the MacMillan clan as a 10-year-old boy who was always running away from his foster homes.
Katie MacMillan has come to Blue Hollow Falls to start a new chapter in her life and help her sister/boss with her new stage of life: motherhood. But when she arrives she soon learns things are not as she planned.
Declan MacGregor has found a home in Blue Hollow Falls after all his travels around the world looking through his camera lens, a home that even surprised him. He knows she is coming but he is still taken by surprise when he first sees her after all these years.
Years have not changed either one too much as they both will fight the feeling of their childhood and the feeling of family commitments. They grow up together in the same house how can they possibly feel the way they do even now after many years apart?
I really enjoyed this story and felt a connection straight away with the characters. A wonderful feel-good read for everyone.
BRING ME HOME * Melissa Storm ****
I have read many Mislissa Storm books before and in normal Storm style this book was full of emotion and feelings but not all of them where happy ones.
Hazel Long's dad has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer which has a big impact on Hazel has her father is all she has. They have a very close relationship and she is happy to sit by the hospital with him to spend as much time as possible with him.
Hazel makes some new friends while at the hospital that will help in the hard days to come. As the cancer and treatment proceeds, Hazel learns many things about the mother she bearly new as her father shares memories of her mother with her.
Keith is the very sexy and cute Kemo Nurse that works at the hospital, Hazel gets to know him as her father's treatment continues and he and the group of woman she met are a strong source of emotional help in Hazel dealing with the reality of her loss.
I struggled with this story on a personal level that had no reflection on the writer or the story.
These stories are all about different kinds of homecomings - and most importantly reconnecting with family. There is romance in each one - but that is far from the most important thing that is happening in each story.
THREE’S A CROWD * Fern Michaels In this story, Samantha has been away from home for a long time as a wartime foreign correspondent. While she was gone she met and fell in love with a man and got pregnant and had a baby. None of which she has told her parents (whom she is extremely close to) about. She's come home for mother's day to make a new life for herself and her baby - with her parents. The story primarily focuses on her relationship with her parents. The identity of the baby's father is a mystery and Samantha won't discuss anything about him. I enjoyed the story - but would have preferred a little more detail about her relationship with the father and less detail about her trip to the spa with her mom. This was a sweet story - but not my favorite of the group.
NEW BEGINNINGS IN BLUE HOLLOW FALLS * Donna Kauffman In this story, we join a portion of two large families in a small blue ridge mountains town, anticipating the birth of some of the newest members of the family. I haven't read any of Donna Kauffman's other Blue Hollow Falls stories - but I was able to keep things straight (for the most part). Here The adopted son and youngest daughter of the MacMillan clan are brought back together after avoiding each other for 10 years. Essentially, they both felt they were each other's soulmate - but a feeling that the relationship was inappropriate kept them apart. It was lovely to see them come together and find each other again. This was a lovely sweet story that I imagine would be very special to those already invested in the Blue Hollow Falls bunch.
BRING ME HOME * Melissa Storm This was my favorite story of the group. Hazel and her father are extremely close - primarily because Hazel's mother died at a very young age. When Hazel's dad is diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, her world is thrown for a loop. Not just because of the cancer, but because of revelations her dad makes about his relationship with Hazel's mother. Their relationship and the issues the face with cancer are very realistic and poignant. Hazel's new relationship with a seriously awesome nurse named Keith plays a second fiddle to the story of Hazel and her dad.
Overall - these are three sweet, quick reads that will warm your heart!
I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
Overall, I give this collection of stories a 4 star and the only story I absolutely loved was Donna Kauffman's story, Blue Hollow Falls: New Beginnings. The other two I didn't really care for because they weren't true romances to me and that was what I thought I was supposed to be reading. Below is my review for each individual story.
There's a Crowd By Fern Michaels 3☆ This was an interesting story. Starts off with Samantha a war correspondent getting ready to move overseas. Then cut in three years later and she's coming home with a baby in tow and a mystery about her baby's father which she can't talk about? For seven chapters she avoids talking about him at all like he's top secret, which got to be annoying to me because everything about him was so unclear. Then there's a development in the last chapter where she freaks out about then the epilogue and she's getting her happily ever after? What happened in this story? I was so confused. We follow her regular everyday life and reunion with her parents for a couple of days then boom her life changes. I wouldn't call this short story a typical romance to me. No interaction between the guy and girl at all until the epilogue. What? But I did enjoy her interactions with her parents. That was sweet.
Blue Hollow Falls: New Beginnings By: Donna Kauffman 5☆ Oh my. What a lovely, sweet story. I thought it was an unrequited love story but it turned into a second chance love story and the emotional depth that Declan and Katie felt for one another? *Sigh* They made my heart soar. Their feelings were so deep but because of some not totally unfounded fears and lack of communication it took them 10 years to finally stop running and accept their fate and destiny. I loved them so much. What a great love story set in the beautiful Blue Hollow Falls. Definitely my favorite story in this anthology and a true romance story to me.
Bring Me Home By: Melissa Storm 3☆ This story was well written and quite emotional but not in the romantic way I would have thought. Definitely not a romance that I was expecting. This story was more about a daughter and her last few months with her dad who was dying of cancer. In between learning about some family secrets and dealing with the fallout of that, she's spending time with her dad, and she meets a man and falls in love but we barely get the love story part. Everything was told from her point of view and how she feels, which was always sad or angry. It was an overall sad story to me.
I chose to read this anthology for Donna Kauffman's Blue Hollow Falls-New Beginnings. I have never read Fern Michaels or Melissa Storm before. I was unsure about Fern Michaels' Three's A Crowd until the end. It read like a suspense thriller short story and not a romance at all. Melissa Storm's story Bring Me Home did not impress me at all. In fact I found it depressing, dealing with a daughter going through cancer treatment with her father. There was a couple at the end of the story but it wasn't their love story. It was overall depressing to me.
Fern Michael's Three's A Crowd is about reporter Samantha Stewart returning home with a 8 month old daughter after spending 3 years overseas, part of the time imbedded with the military in Afghanistan. She told no one she had a daughter and secrecy surrounds her missing husband. There is no love story here, just questions and potential threat.
Donna Kauffman's New Beginnings is a second chance love story about singer Pippa's sister and Personal Assistant Katie MacMillan of Dublin. Pippa is confined to bed rest for the duration of her pregnancy and Katie is there to keep things calm and run interference with the multitudes of family and friends trying to visit. She arrives and finds Declan MacGregor is also made his home there. He was taken into her family at age 10 and she's been in love with him for most of her life. They finally clear the air about how they feel about each other. Seems Declan was dealing with guilt over loving a sister, even if they weren't blood. Pippa's delivery gives us all a delightful surprise for those following the series.
Melissa Storm's Bring Me Home is a story of a father who has pancreatic cancer going in for chemo treatments. He and his daughter Hazel are very close as his wife died when Hazel was 3. Frank is an architect and Hazel has an interior design business that her Dad's clients often make use of. This story is about a daughter losing her beloved father and him coming clean about what happened with her mother. Along the way she makes some friends, 3 other woman who have family undergoing chemo treatments. We also meet a compassionate and very good looking male nurse. Of course she and the nurse fall in love but the story doesn't detail their story. It's mostly about Hazel and her Dad Frank. Sorry but I was not impressed and it was not a romance story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
There are three stories in this book, all of which center on a secret or secrets that that are revealed. In the first, after time away in war-torn locales, war correspondent Samantha Stewart has returned to her family home—with an unexpected and not-previously-revealed young daughter. Her parents are naturally surprised, but almost immediately fall under the spell of their new granddaughter. Who can resist a baby? As the story progresses, we learn more about the time Sam spent away, but she refuses to discuss little Caroline’s father and the circumstances of her birth. Finally, a bouquet of flowers upsets her so much that the story begins to come out, and her secret is no more. Next, we are transported to Blue Hallow Falls, where Dubliner Katie MacMillan has returned to help out during the final days of her sister’s troubled pregnancy. Little does she know that Declan MacGregor, her first crush and childhood tease, has also returned to Blue Hollow Falls. Katie knows she holds a secret about Declan, as he holds one about her. What happens when these two, with their secrets, finally figure out what is going on? In the third story, Hazel Long, struggling to come to grips with the fact that her beloved father, who raised he alone after her mother’s early death, is dying, begins to learn secrets her father has kept for years and years, and everything she thought or believed is thrown into a tizzy.
These stories were okay. In the first, I found the ending totally unbelievable, I felt the author suddenly realized she had to wind things up, without any ending in mind, and just sort of threw in the first idea that came into mind, though it was totally unbelievable. The story was pretty good and interesting, until the ending, which spoiled it for me. In the second, I figured out what was going on almost from the start and how things would end. Nice romance. The third story was different but satisfying. The best of the group, in my opinion. Like happens in real life, there are memories of events and people, which usually become somewhat exaggerated over time, did not always happen the way we were told or remembered they did, come out. I was interesting to watch how things change for Hazel, and how she reacts, as well as watching the romance angle the author threw in. I think these are stories worth reading as well as interesting to watch the turn of events. I received this form NetGalley to read and review.
I initially wanted to read this because of the Donna Kauffman story in her Blue Hollow Falls series, one of my favourites, but I really enjoyed the Fern Michaels story too.
THREE'S A CROWD by Fern Michaels - 4 stars This was about Samantha (former overseas reporter/Afghanistan etc.) and her baby daughter Caroline, who were finally coming home to the US and staying with Samantha's parents, who couldn't wait to see her after three years, but had no idea about the baby!
I'm not sure why she kept it such a secret from them, even though there were admittedly government sort of things going on in the background. I found the story very enjoyable, with an added bit of mystery about the baby's 'missing' Father, which eventually was revealed. The ending felt a little bit rushed to me, but it was a short story, but I really enjoyed the relationship between Sam and her parents, both of whom were great characters, especially her Mum!
NEW BEGINNINGS IN BLUE HOLLOW FALLS by Donna Kauffman - 5 stars This story is the reason I read this anthology in the first place, as I am a big fan of the Blue Hollow Falls series and would highly recommend all of them. This time we're back with pregnant Pippa (Irish folk artist/now married and living in Blue Hollow Falls) and her sister Katie MacMillan, her PA and right hand person, who comes over from Dublin to help control the influx of family visitors (lots of!) in the last months of a difficult pregnancy.
Once there Katie realises that Declan (taken in as an honorary family member from a very young age / Katie's first and only love) has also moved there. They've avoided each other for 10 years but can no longer do that as they're now both living in Blue Hollow Falls. Of course they eventually resolve their issues and there is a really lovely ending. I just love this series, the characters are fabulous and you want them all to be your friends!
BRING ME HOME by Melissa Storm - Didn't Read I must admit I'd never heard of Melissa Storm before, and even though I started the story it wasn't really my sort of thing (a story about a woman's Dad dying of cancer) so I gave it a miss. After the other two stories in this anthology I didn't think this one was really the right one to end it, it didn't really fit with the other two more upbeat stories, which was a shame. But I'm sure other people like her work and enjoyed it, just not for me.
This is a collection of three stories by three amazing author's. I was so excited to see these three author's in one book and I was not disappointed at all. A great read that focuses on family and being home.
THREE’S A CROWD by Fern Michaels In this story, Samantha is a wartime correspondent and has been away from home for far too long. Her mom only worries about her while she is gone and can't wait for her return. Samantha has a surprise for her mom and dad that she is not sure how will be received by them. I don't want to give anything away with this one because reading it as it unfolds is the best! i got caught up in this story and devoured it in no time. A great surprise at the end is so heartwarming that you will want more!
NEW BEGINNINGS IN BLUE HOLLOW FALLS by Donna Kauffman In this story we are taken to Blue Hollow Falls where they are expecting the arrival of some new family members. This one was easy to follow even if you haven't read any of the other Blue Hollow Falls books. The adopted son and youngest daughter of the MacMillan clan are brought back together after avoiding each other for 10 years. They both felt that it was not the right time for a relationship previously but now might be! Will they be able to work everything out and get together? You will have to read this one to find out! Another great read in this trilogy!
BRING ME HOME by Melissa Storm Hazel lost her mom at a young age and she and her father have been very close all her life. When he is diagnosed with cancer, things begin to take on a different look as far as life goes for Hazel. Hazel's dad reveals some things abut her mother that she has never heard and it has Hazel thinking. Hazel meets Keith in the meantime but will she be able to focus on a relationship with everything else going on? You will enjoy this one!
These three short stories will leave you with a full heart and long for more from these characters and author's. Great writing by these three!
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thanks to Netgalley, the authors and the publishers for an advanced copy of this book!
This book is actually three shorter stories: Three's A Crowd by Fern Michaels; New Beginnings in Blue Hollow Falls by Donna Kauffman; and Bring Me Home by Melissa Storm.
Three's A Crowd by Fern Michaels - 4 star Samantha Stewart is an international news correspondent and has spent the past three years overseas. Sam was excited and nervous at seeing her parents again. What would they think of the secret she has been hiding in the form of her 8 month old daughter, Caroline? Of course they were were a little hurt, but mostly excited to being grandparents! Just as Sam is trying to settle back into being in the United States, something surprising from her past shows up again and it could make life really interesting.
Blue Hollow Falls: New Beginnings by Donna Kauffman - 5 star Katie MacMillan, Pippa's sister has permanently moved to Blue Hollow Falls. She is excited to be with her sister again while awaiting the new baby, but even more important, Katie is looking forward to a new beginning in her life. Imagine her surprise when Katie finds out that Declan MacGregor is also in Blue Hollow Falls. Declan may have been Katie's first crush back in high school, but she has never forgotten him. It turns out Declan has never forgotten her either and quickly they come to find a second chance at love and their happy ending!
Bring Me Home by Melissa Storm - 3 star Hazel Long lost her mother at a very young age and it has always been just her and her dad. Now when Hazel finds out that her dad has cancer it feels like her world is crashing down. Through the trips to the hospital Hazel meets three other women with family going through the same "C" diagnosis as well as the hunky chemo nurse, Keith. As things with Hazel's dad deteriorates, her new friends and boyfriend help her to navigate through the emotions.
Overall I enjoyed the first book; loved the second book and had a hard time with the third book (cancer is a hard topic for me to read) but I did enjoy all of the characters and their stories.
This is basically three short stories all loosely tied together with homecomings of a sort. Fern Michaels Three's a Crowd Samantha has been keeping things from her family and she's about to unleash a huge secret, her eight month old daughter Caroline. After returning from an overseas assignment she's trying to get back to some type of normal. First step, don't tell anyone the full truth. Second step, totally flip out over flowers. Third step, I'm pretty sure we missed this one because I've never seen something get wrapped up so quickly you're head is going to spin. I actually reread the page three times. Sorry, but this went from I can't talk, to spilling my guts, to oh wait there's more, really you couldn't add a day or some sort of explanation before you tied a big bow?
NEW BEGINNINGS IN BLUE HOLLOW FALLS by Donna Kauffman
This story was well worth the read. I've not read anything in this series yet it was easy to get right into it. The youngest in the clan has come to keep her heavily pregnant elder sister company while she's on bedrest and ward off the family visits. Katie is fierce and ready to settle down. She doesn't expect to face Declan after so much time apart. Her other half as far as she's concerned and now fate may have finally stepped in to give them their chance.
Bring me Home by Melissa Storm Hazel is learning life isn't always what we're told it is, there are half truths and secrets. When her fathers health is declining he decides to share the truths of her mother. It's a bittersweet time as they spend as much time together as possible. And the tiny ray of sunshine that comes from making new friends who know what Hazel is dealing with. Throw in a hot nurse named Keith and our story is complete. Be prepared for an emotional roller coaster, this is not the sweet coming home tonne you were expecting.
Honestly I would have only read the Donna Kauffman story of I hadn't committed to a review.
Rating the three stories in this anthology, I’d have to give it four stars however rating them separately, I would give Blue Hollow Falls: New Beginnings by Donna Kauffman a full five stars, or more, if I could.
In Three’s A Crowd by Fern Michaels, Samantha Stewart has been out of the country reporting in a war zone. She returns to the States, with a baby she has told no one about, and that incudes her parents. It’s hard to say much about the story without spoilers so I will say that we learn what happened in the time she was away and it touched my heart.
In New Beginnings in Blue Hollow Falls by Donna Kauffman, Katie MacMillan – Katherine Elizabeth to her mum – is staying with her pregnant sister (Pippa, whom we met in previous BHF stories; LOVE them!) and her husband Seth. Pippa is experiencing some difficulties with her pregnancy and Katie is playing gatekeeper for all the visitors who arrive. Declan MacGregor, someone from her past in Ireland, has also come to Blue Hollow Falls, ostensibly to take photos. However, when he arrives, he feels as if he has “come home”. What I can tell you about this story is that it is mostly told from the hearts and minds of Katie and Declan and just grabbed my heart and soul, as all the other stories in this series has. It’s a standalone so no worries however characters from other Donna Kauffman Blue Hollow Falls stories show up and I love knowing characters when I read. Love, love, love this story!
In Bring Me Home by Melissa Storm, Hazel sits with her dad during a health crisis and the two of them work through some memories that didn’t happen quite the way Hazel has been told. As her dad nears the end of his life, their close relationship only strengthens. And Hazel’s difficult journey is helped by people she would never think to rely upon.
These are three stories that have a common theme of homecoming but are very different. The first story by Fern Michael's grabs your interest as she slowly builds up the suspense of what happened in the past to make Samantha so leery of talking about her baby's daddy. Her coming home to her parents is joyful yet you feel like you are just waiting for something to happen especially when she has a phone number to call in case of emergencies. It's a good story with my only quibble is that the ending/epilogue is a bit abrupt. I would have liked just a little more explanation about things. The second story is by Donna Kauffman and takes us into a large Irish family as they prepare for Pippa to have her babies. Old hurts between Katie and Declan work themselves out as the author describes the beauty of the area. I have not read the others in this series but after reading this I'd like to get to know all the characters and their stories. The third story is by Melissa Storm and the most intense. It is beautifully written but do be warned it is also a bit depressing. It is the start of a wonderful series that I highly recommend. The next book in her series is "The Sunday Night Potluck Club". In this story, we meet Hazel who is struggling to deal with her father's cancer diagnosis. Her mother died when she was a little girl and its always been just the two of them. Her dad decides to expose some secrets he has kept and she is upset by the revelations. She meets others who are at the hospital with their parents getting chemo and they become her support. Also helping through this time is Keith, an oncology nurse, she met at the hospital. She finds hope and friends during a difficult time in her life. I received an advance copy but the opinions are my own.@KensingtonBooks
This new collection of three stories by Fern Michaels, Donna Kauffman and Melissa Storm was an enjoyable quick read.
Three's A Crowd by Fern Michaels For the first time in three years, Samantha Stewart will be spending time with her parents. And she is bringing a surprise - her baby girl. Sam has worked out of of the country as a reporter and has lots of secrets that she can't share with anyone. I enjoyed the spa day with her mom. I was disappointed in the ending of the story because it seemed to me to be forced to wrap it up. I enjoy reading Fern Michaels, but not so much this story.
New Beginnings in Blue Hollow Falls by Donna Kauffman Katie MacMillan is in BHF to help her sister Pippi with her pregnancy and plans to make BHF her new home. This is a big family with the Brogans and the McMillians. She was not expecting to see DeClan MacGregor - her childhood love that she had not seen in years, The story of how they move on in life is a wonderful story to read. It is a stand alone book, but if you haven't read the other books in the Blue Hollow Falls series, add them to your TBR list. Donna Kauffman has a winner in this!
Bring Me Home by Melissa Storm Hazel Long lost her mother as a child and the relationship with her father has been very strong. As his illness progresses so quickly she finds friendship with other women at the hospital and a male nurse. Hazel's father begins to share stories about her mother, but the stories show her mother in a different way than she knew her. This offers a great opportunity for Hazel to bond.
In an exchange for an honest review I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher.
Home Sweet Home by Fern Michaels, Donna Kauffman, and Melissa Storm, is a wonderful compilation of three romances involving going home or finding home. Each author brought their romance to life in a short novella and left you looking forward to more from each of them. Each wrote a delightful romance in their style in order to tell their own story. Three’s a Crowd by Fern Michaels features Samantha Stewart returning home for Mother’s Day after spending three years reporting from war zones; bringing with her a few surprises for her parents. New Beginnings in Blue Hollow Falls by Donna Kauffman features Kate MacMillan arriving from Dublin to help with her sister, Pippa’s pregnancy. Blue Hollow Falls felt like home to Kate, especially with so many members of her family popping in to check on Pippa. Kate is anticipating a new beginning but a second chance just might also be in the cards when she encounters, and confronts Declan MacGregor, her first crush and brother’s best friend. Bring Me Home by Melissa Storm features loner Hazel Long as she spends time with her ill father. While he is at the hospital for treatment she finds friendship among other visitors and the kindness of a handsome male nurse. Hazel’s father begins to share with her the story of the mother who died when Hazel was quite young. This was an unexpected opportunity for them to bond. Ms. Kauffman, Ms. Michaels and Ms. Storm wrote wonderful and moving stories that are not to be missed. Each story is filled with fun dialogue, engaging characters and the magic of being with family. I highly recommend Home Sweet Home to other readers. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Home Sweet Home is comprised of three stories authored by Fern Michaels, Donna Kauffman and Melissa Storm. They are stories which discuss a mother’s embrace, being back home, love, family and friendship. The descriptions of the stories are below. I have always enjoyed reading these authors and the stories end all too soon. Thank you to Net Galley for an advance reader copy for review. THREE’S A CROWD * Fern Michaels This Mother’s Day will be the first in three years that Samantha Stewart has spent with her parents. And she’s bringing a very special gift—the baby granddaughter they’ve never met. Sam’s work as an overseas reporter was exhilarating and dangerous. Now she’s seeking stability for little Caroline—and answers for herself—and finding them in a homecoming full of surprises . . .
NEW BEGINNINGS IN BLUE HOLLOW FALLS * Donna Kauffman The moment she set foot in Blue Hollow Falls, Dubliner Katie MacMillan felt right at home. Back to help with her sister’s pregnancy, she’s contemplating her own future, especially when she confronts Declan MacGregor, her childhood tormentor and first crush. This Blue Ridge town was supposed to be a new beginning, but can it also be the setting for a second chance?
BRING ME HOME * Melissa Storm For Hazel Long, spending time with her bedridden father is bittersweet. There’s comfort in the friendship offered by other hospital visitors—and the kindness of a handsome male nurse. And when Hazel’s father begins to tell her the story of the mother she barely knew, it’s an unexpected chance to bond, and a lesson in making the most of each new day.
“Three’s a Crowd” - 2 Stars ⭐⭐ “Three’s a Crowd” reads like an overdramatized, immature Wattpad book. Sam annoyed the heck out of me with her lack of planning or care towards other people’s feelings. She created a very Sam-centric world and expected everything to go her way. When it is finally (obviously) revealed that Gio worked for the CIA and is in fact alive, there is no credit given to Sam. There’s a phrase in the book, something along the lines of, “He didn’t catch his big break until Sam came to him with information…”. His big break. He does not acknowledge or credit Sam or commend her reporting skills or journalism.
“New Beginnings in Blue Hollow Falls” - 2 Stars ⭐⭐ In the beginning, it was stated that Kate came to Blue Hollow Falls to help Pippa get some bed rest and fight off the well-wishing, but overbearing family. However, it was not until the second-to-last chapter that it was said that Kate came to Blue Hollow Falls to fight off Pippa’s fans. The inconsistency was annoying. Also, Kate and Declan’s miscommunication was so dumb that it made me annoyed with the whole story. There was no real romance between the two. They just felt “they were meant to be” and were each other’s “soul mates.”
“Bring Me Home” - 2 Stars ⭐⭐ For most of “Bring Me Home,” I was going to give it 3 stars. I appreciated the author’s attempt at sensitivity surrounding the cancer issue/plot line. I believe that Hazel and her dad could have fought more to do outpatient care, rather than suddenly deciding to do no patient care at all. While I enjoyed most of the story, the ending dropped it down to 2 stars for me. I am okay with deaths and main characters dying. What I am not okay with is unrealistic deaths. For Hazel’s father to die immediately after reading the letter felt way too unrealistic and dramatized to me.
This book is a collection of three different stories. The first Three’s A Crowd, is about Samantha, who leaves her home in Florida for a job reporting on the war in the Middle East. Three years later she comes home to her parents house. With a surprise. And secrets she can’t share. I enjoyed this story. It was well written and had likable characters. The only issue I have it that it feels rushed at the end. And I feel it could have been a little more detailed. But over all, was a really enjoyable story. The second book, New Beginnings in Blue shallow Falls is about Katie. An Irish woman, who has come to the town of Blue Hallow Falls to hell her pregnant sister, through a difficult pregnancy. She goes, anticipating staying there forever. Then when she gets there, she see the man who nearly broke her head years ago. When he walked away after confessing her love for him. This story was sure a wonderful, sweet story. The characters were so enjoyable, and lovely. It was a refreshing tale of finding the love fate meant for you to have. I really enjoyed it. And the last story, Bring Me Home, Is the story of Hazel. Her father is diagnosed with cancer, and in the months after, as her father gets more sick, he begins telling her things about her mother she never knew. This is a beautiful, heartwarming, and heartbreaking story of love, and family. I found this story hard to read, because the topic of cancer, and losing a loved one. It had me crying several times throughout the story. It was definitely a good story.
In the wonderful new book we are gifted with three romantic shorts that will definitely get you in the mood for love and romance. In the first short we meet Samantha Stewart who is returning home after several years to spend Mothers Day with her family. She has a daughter that her parents have never met, and is worried about how this reunion will turn out. You see Samantha has spent her life traveling as an overseas reporter and although this life has been very exciting as well as fulfilling it is time for a change. Having a daughter to take care of has her re-evaluating her life and the changes she feels she needs to make. In the second short Katie MacMillan has come to Blue Hollow Falls to help her sister who is very much pregnant. She feels an instant connection with the small town which starts her looking at where her future may be headed. When she runs into her childhood bully and first crush Declan MacGregor old feelings resurface and have.her questioning everything. Can she let old hurts go and look toward a future with a man who has always made her unsure? In the third short we meet Hazel Long whose life at the moment is spent by spending time with her sick father. He's in the hospital unable to leave the bed, visiting him engulfs her with bittersweet feelings that she isn't sure how to deal with. When her father pulls her in with a story about another she doesn't really know it helps her view her father in a different way. A great read filled with heart warming stories that will have you laughing, crying, and in the end happy and smiling!
How do you define "home?" Is it a house, a town, a person, or a feeling? Or something else altogether? The 3 stories in this book circle around the recurring theme of home, and each with very different tales. I like that they were 3 distinct stories, and that it didn't take hours of time commitment to complete a story. This book was perfect for reading on my breaks at work for that reason! Solid writing, good stories, and a great escape from the workday.
The book opens up with THREE’S A CROWD by Fern Michaels - I was drawn in by Sam's story, but I felt like the wrap up at the end was a little rushed and incomplete. I felt like I could have used at least another chapter or two, and it felt like this story could have been devoted to a full novel on its own!
I loved NEW BEGINNINGS IN BLUE HOLLOW FALLS by Donna Kauffman, as I love all of the books and characters in her Blue Hollow Falls Series. I liked seeing the little blurb at the end, and can't wait to see the next things that are in store for this series. If you enjoy reading this one, make sure you check them out.
The biggest surprise for me, and the story that I enjoyed the most was BRING ME HOME by Melissa Storm. I have looked up the author, Melissa Storm, and learned that the characters in this story will have their own book "The Sunday Potluck Club, " which will be coming out in March - I can't wait to read it.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This book contains 3 novellas. Up first is Three’s A Crowd by Fern Michaels. There was mystery written into this in the situation surrounding Samantha’s years in the Middle East as a correspondent and the birth of her daughter Caroline and Caroline’s father. It was a cute story and I liked it until the end when it felt like some vital information was missing. We went from knowing nothing about Samantha’s husband to him being there and everything being hunky-dory. I realize this is a novella so there was probably a page limit, but it wouldn’t have taken much more than one more page to make this make more sense. 3 stars Second is Blue Hollow Falls: New Beginnings by Donna Kauffman. I loved this story. The emotions surrounding the reunion and working out of the relationship between Katie MacMillan and Declan MacGregor tugged at my heart. I loved this story and even shed a few tears. 5 stars. Third is Bring Me Home by Melissa Storm. Hazel has been raised by her father and now he has cancer. She is having a hard time letting go. She meets a nurse, Keith, during her father’s chemo treatments and they fall in love. Keith is there for her as her father grows weaker. Hazel also meets some other women supporting family members with cancer. This novella serves as an introduction to the Sunday Potluck Club, which released at the beginning of April 2020. Truthfully, I wasn’t in the mood for this sad emotion during this trying time so I skimmed this novella. 3 stars.
