Book 1, Honey Walker Adventures Meet Honey Walker, taxi driver extraordinaire. Honey has a few goals in life. Her first is to hustle enough fares and tips to pay the rent and buy those red sequined spike heeled slut shoes she lusts after. Her next goal is to kick her budding relationship with police Lieutenant Jon Stevens into high gear. Honey's problem is that dead bodies and live thugs keep getting in the way of her goals. While she admires the Lieutenant's well formed rear end, the Lieutenant is busy chasing the bad guys who are busy chasing Honey. When Honey's new best friend Belle, former prostitute and wife to one of the dead bodies, is kidnapped by the local mafia, Honey sets out to rescue her. Follow Honey as she drives her taxi through a big hole in the local crime scene.
Very funny and entertaining first book in this series. I will be reading more from this series and by this author. Honey is a taxi driver which puts her into a variety of interesting situations. Her new friend and coworker is an ex-prostitute and the wife of a recently murdered man. Of course there is a cute police detective, a delightful senior next door and an eclectic and quirky cast of characters. I think this series has lots of potential.
4.5 stars This is a fast paced mystery a la Stephanie Plum. Lots of fun, laughter and giggles in this book ... if you don't mind the humour being a little "rough" at times. I once even read a part to my teenage daughter even though I censored it a tad bit. I don't mind that it has a lot of things in common with Stephanie Plum. For me there were more laughs here with Honey and Belle. Not to forget Lucille the elderly neighbour and former FBI agent. She is a hoot.
This was an adventurous story. Honey has a way with how she handles her fares who have gone crazy. She is mixed up in some bs, and meets Belle at the same time. All while dealing with the bs of the mob group, Honey and Jon’s relationship starts to bud. They’re total opposites but clearly want one another. I liked this story and couldn’t put it down because I was curious to see what the next accident would be.
I laughed through this entire book! It's a mystery with a good plot and fast-paced action that keeps you intrigued throughout the book, and I would like it even if it weren't hilarious. But it is. The first line of the book sets the pace: "When she shot the front seat of my taxi, I thought about getting a different job, but it was the passenger side and empty, so I didn’t update my resume." This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I will read everything this author has written. Highly recommend this book.
Really enjoyed this story. This is from a local writer who wrote about a small town near me that I visit and enjoy a lot. You do not have to know the place to enjoy this book.
Story about a young woman (Honey Walker) trying to make it, while working as a driver for a small taxi company in a small town. For some reason trouble seems to find her, including some of the fares she picks up. Of course with all these mishaps the police have to get involved, especially a certain lieutenant (Jon Stevens). Every time Honey sees the lieutenant, she makes a mental note about his sexy ass and how much more she would like to get to know him. The trouble that seems to find sweet Honey is dead bodies. They just seem to show up, which gets in the way of her making a living and getting to know lieutenant Stevens.
Instead of being a dark story, this story is very funny. I found myself laughing out loud many times with the situations and how they resolve. I got so much enjoyment from this story, and laughs were a special treat for the soul.
The story is well written with really good character development. There are several main characters in the story, and as the story develops, so do the characters. I like many of the characters, and hope they show up in the rest of the series. Small Town Taxi is the first in a series, and I will be getting the next installment.
If you are looking for something lighthearted, with lovable characters and plenty of humor to keep your funny bone tickled, I highly recommend Small Town Taxi
What a ride! A female taxi driver and a few weeks of her story. Honey enjoys driving taxi and she's quite a character. But it's the people she picks up that really bring adventure to her life, some of these small town fares are vibrant and dangerous characters while most are just plain entertaining. Grab a treat, something to wet your whistle and be prepared to be entertained for the next few hours through laughter, shocking tales from the seniors, adolescents and those in-between. 😉😀 Kat
A great read. If you're looking for a light read with mystery, romance, and sexual tension, you're going to love this book. Honey Walker is a great character that is pretty much winging her way through life. When she ends up living with a former prostitute, things get really interesting. Then there's the sexy cop and an elderly neighbor that encourages Honey and cop to get it on. Seriously, it's a funny read that will have you laughing out loud. Can't wait to read the next one.
I loved this book. A 20 something white female with no prospects for a good job and a reforming black very tall women join together and find bodies all over the place. They take up taxi driving for a living and through their job they are eking out a living while being chased by the badies causing all the bodies. Highly recommend. The characters are great and they are the story not the story line.
Entertaining mystery. If you're looking for something to make you smile, even laugh out loud, you will enjoy this book. Honey and Belle remind me of Stephanie Plum and her sidekick Lula. No matter where Honey goes, dead bodies appear. Or she finds and duct tapes guys wanted by the police. She even gives her roll of duct tape to a couple of senior citizens to bind a bad guy until the cops come. This has the making of a fun series.
There were parts of the book that were entertaining. For the most part, it dragged on and on and was more of a chore to read than anything else. The character that stuck out to me the most was Belle probably because the way she was written was similar to that of Lula in the Stephanie Plum series of books. Don't get me wrong, there were twists and turns and humorous parts, but I won't be picking up any more books in this series.
Awesome read, characters and storyline! Really keeps your interest from the first. Small towns are usually not very high up on the scales for a taxi service, but this one has more than one with a lot going on with and without the taxis! A definite must read for all the excitement
This book grabs you from the start and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I like a book that is good fast pace and hard to put down. It’s a disappointment when you come to the end of the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read. And I can’t wait for the second book to come out.
Ah the life of a female taxi driver in modern New England? Quick moving easy To read book that would have you laughing the whole way except for the Serious side of prostitution, teen suicide, drug trafficking, homelessness and police work that the author cleverly weaves throughout the text. I look forward to future books by the author.
This was a very enjoyable read. Certainly not your average cozy mystery. There was definitely skill, they characters were fleshed out enough to fit into their role in the story. There was love and acceptance. There was some good humor. Certainly some romance. Even solved some serious crime. All of it played out from a small town taxi service.
Humor, mystery, friendships forming, yep its got it all!
I loved the friendship forming between unlikely friends. They get in some sticky situations, be prepared to giggle a lot. Danger is always just ahead.. Well developed and written story. I think you'll enjoy it. Happy reading!
This book is not only an excellent read, but had me laughing out loud frequently. The gags are well placed and the characters believable, even if the situations are not. Though the situations seem often absurd and Honey's various rescues improbable, they're what make the book so much fun.
I loved reading it and I look forward to reading more books from this series and Author. Honey was a super relatable character, her adventures were off the wall, her romance made you want to know what was happening next and Belle and Lucille’s snarky comments had me laughing out loud. Such a wonderful read.
I love the fact that the cabs at Scion xBs. Other than that, there wasn't too much to capture my interest for the series. It reads a lot like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books but with less car explosions.
Author freebie. Beginning of a ten book series. Honey Walker drives a taxi in a small Massachusetts city. Her friends are a collection of oddballs. They deal with mysterious occurrences. Suitable for teens and adults.
Funny and heart warming story. The characters grow right into your heart. Plenty of surprises and twists. I found it difficult to pick Co a favorite character! They are so endearing and deeply real. Superb first in series book!
This was a fun read if ever there was one. The characters were so well developed. The situations that Honey found herself in were sometimes hysterical. I really enjoyed this book.
This was an entertaining story. I liked it. What I didn't like was the language...too much cursing for a nice girl, and a lot of focus on men's private parts. Interesting characters throughout the story kept it going.
The characters were great and there interaction with each other was fun to read and how it would all work out. Honey always was In the wrong place but used duct tape well.
I loved this story because there is a lot of action, suspense, humor and romance. I told a very good friend about this series and we both have the rest of the ebooks in the series.
