YOU are the perfect trainer for your dog.

I don't know why this book gets a lot of bad reviews. When I for one, agrees with a lot of what he says on the book. The books talk about a lot of positive reinforcement. The author even is against the water hose/water squirt method that some people even adhere to. I'm giving it 5 stars, because I like his methods and his viewpoint on you are the greatest trainer for your dog except of course if your pup has aggression problems etc. On the premise that you are the one who spends time the most with your dog. It's also a "bonding time" with your pup. I could say, as someone who has taken care of a lot of dogs that this book don't deserve all the hate and the author believes in a humane way to train dogs.

PETS -a great part of life

I haven't had a dog in years and actually I did not do a proper job of training. Reading this book really helps me to understand the process of training and why it is necessary. I learned that the training helps not only the owner care for the dog but can help the dog live a happier and healthier life I really liked how the author set out the chapters and wrote the book in a very easy to read format. I do recommend this book to help train your dog

Very good instructional book

Informative. I was able to train our puppy to go potty in places we want. She's able to do a few tricks now as well.
The bonus chapter is just a weird collection of words. Other than that, it's a good beginner book.

Great tips and guidelines

I just got a rottweiler puppy, and while I know the basics, we were having a hard time with him. This book was helpful in giving me ideas for games to play that will mentally stimulate my dog. A mentally and physically stimulated dog makes for a better behaved dog. This book goes beyond just the basics, so even a seasoned dog owner can get something useful out of it.

All you need to know to train your new pup

This book shared a lot of helpful information with getting a puppy. I wish more people would read this prior to getting a dog to learn all the considerations to take, breed, care, medical, training etc. This book covered it all along with some tricks for extra training for the puppy to make it a happy household. I also enjoyed the pictures of all the cute puppies. My daughter can't wait to get one.

Great training tips!

This book covers everything from common behaviors of puppies to how to train them successfully through schedules and repetition. There is a section discussing how to pick an appropriate puppy, which I found helpful. Not all puppies are created equal! Very helpful, simple, common sense tips all wrapped up in one handy book.
