USA Today Bestselling author, Shelley lives in Auckland, New Zealand with her husband and a rambunctious puppy.

Typical New Zealanders, Shelley and her husband left home for their big OE soon after they married (translation of New Zealand speak - big overseas experience). A year long adventure lengthened to six years of roaming the world. Enduring memories include being almost sat on by a mountain gorilla in Rwanda, lazing on white sandy beaches in India, whale watching in Alaska, searching for leprechauns in Ireland, and dealing with ghosts in an English pub.

While travel is still a big attraction, these days Shelley is most likely found in front of her computer following another love - that of writing stories of romance and adventure. Other interests include watching rugby and rugby league (strictly for research purposes), being walked by the dog, and curling up with a good book.

I would classify "Romancing the Alien" as more romantica than erotica. Having said that, if you can get past the cheesy cover, this is a VERY funny book by Shelley Munro. Aliens in New Zealand! It's got a lot of texture and is quite salty and I scarfed this twofer down in huge mouthfuls just like good popcorn.

The first story is "Talking Dogs, Aliens, and Purple People Eaters". When Janaya agreed to act as bodyguard to her mischievious aunt, she had no idea she'd end up shipwrecked on Earth and bonded to a human male! Luke is acting as sheriff to help out his Dad and get away from bad memories of his recent divorce. When he heads out to check out the rumors of a UFO, he had no idea that he'd find real, live aliens...and hoo boy...is the younger one HOT!

"Never Send a Dog to Do a Woman's Job" is the hilarious sequel. Lily's Uncle Luke married...an alien! So when an absolutely gorgeous bit of eye candy comes into her travel agency and hands her a letter from Uncle Luke, she's not too surprised to find that Alex is an alien too. Alex plans to set up his own travel agency and wants her help to design an Earth tour. The money is great and will really help her out...if they can only keep their hands off each other!

Both of these stories had me laughing from page one. Shelley Munro has the magic touch for combining steamy sexual tension with laugh out loud humor. "Romancing the Alien" is a delightfully sinful indulgence!

Two stories for the price of one, a great deal!

The first story follows Janaya trying to protect her aunt from another alien race when they grassland on Earth in New Zealand. There she meets Luke, a small town police officer just wanting to live a quiet life after his divorce. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, except Janaya forgot to get her travel inoculation and bonds with Luke. Throw in Luke's father and a talking dog and things get a bit crazy.

Honestly the first story had moments where it was cute, but despite being told that sleeping together will deepen the bonding and both of them not wanting that, they don't even try and fight it. Gives the story a ton of sex scenes but not a lot of much else. The relationship between Janaya and Luke seems way too fast and neither really seem concerned about the consequences of their actions too much. There were also lots of moments where we would start to get some more be story on the characters and then it would stop and focus on other things. The characters never fleshed out for me in this one.

Now, the second story was a lot more interesting to me. Alex is wanting to prove himself to his father, the king, by running his own successful business. He meets Lily, Luke's sister, who runs a travel agency on Earth to help him seek out locations. A road trip with one talking dog and fighting against the bonding makes it a great read.

Alex and Lily seem much more fleshed out than Luke and Janaya were in the first story. Alex is tired of women being attracted to his status and money and not him and Lily went through a divorce that left deep emotional and psychological scars on her heart. Both have to work through those issues as well and it gives them a lot more depth.

I also felt like I laughed a lot more in this story than in the first one because I understood the characters more. It made the whole story seem that much better.

I would read the 2nd story again for sure, but I'm not so sure about the first.
