Easton:

The money, excitement, and glory of being a professional hockey player meant more to me than a family, a home, and a forever. Another man has my forever, and I have hockey. I thought making the big bucks and playing against the best in the world would feel better than this. Instead I’m empty and hollow, like a big piece of my heart was hacked off. There's something missing. Something big. Something I can never get back.

Caroline:

I loved him, but he wasn’t the love of my life.

My husband died too young, too suddenly, too tragically. I was unprepared with no education, no job skills, and no future plans. When a DNA test reveals my twins' true parentage, I have no choice but to do the right thing. I turn to the one man who’d turned his back on me all those years ago.

I'd been shutout from his life, and I'd shut him out from mine. Can two strangers make a family? Do we have what it takes to forgive and move on?

Sooooooooo, truth be told, this story started out rough. And by rough, I mean I put my kindle down and flipped to another book like 5 times before I finished. *sigh* I can’t understand why write characters that are at constant odds with each other. There was entirely too much hot/cold or push/pull going on for my taste. Half the time I wasn’t even sure they liked each other LOL And this isn’t just at the beginning of the story … it was everywhere.

What’s funny is that it’s a good story, but for some reason it did not hit me well. It’s so damn hard to rate stories when this happens! I enjoy Jami’s work so of course this will not deter me from moving forward with her books, but it’s just so damn odd. Well, not a winner for me but maybe for you …. *shrug*

Shutout by Jami Davenport was the first book in the Scoring series, a spinoff and continuation of the Seattle Sockeyes series.

We met Easton Black while he was in college in Tackled in Seattle (book two, Men of Tyee series). He was likable and I was looking forward to his back story.

I love hockey (#gobolts). Did I say I love hockey? Yup! So, I loved the opening with training camp and determining who made the NHL team and who stayed in the AHL. It was a great way to start the book. I do; however, wish we had more hockey details throughout the story. Easton was in the hockey season but there were only quick references to games, his teammates and/or road trips. I desired more.

As to the characters, I liked Easton but I craved more depth from him. And I wasn’t a fan of Caroline. She had been through a lot but I still didn’t think it merited her attitude towards Easton. And I didn’t feel a connection with her nor between her and Easton. She was cold as ice and irrational. With that said, Davenport dove into a tough topic, so it was plausible as a realistic response.

Overall, it was a quick read and I liked the storyline and Easton, I just didn’t like Caroline. I’m still a Davenport and a Sockeye series fan, this just wasn’t my favorite. However, true to form, Davenport did well setting the stage for the rest of the series and giving us a glimpse into other rookies. I can’t wait for Kaden’s book next, it looks to be explosive.

I usually enjoy Jamie Davenport’s stories. This one felt forced on almost every page.

Easton and Caroline shared a great love years ago, resulting in children she thought were her husband’s. Now they’re moving forward. That was set up okay. But then.... Caroline’s in-laws, wait - only mom-in-law, insist on a DNA test. Somehow they never told their son he was adopted. After his death they tell his wife, and insist on DNA testing for their grandchildren for medical purposes? Stretch much? They move to Arizona.Caro and kids to Seattle, and they don’t make arrangements to spend Christmas together just months after their son dies?! Plus, the seemingly most understanding woman in the world, who’s been pushing Caro to find her own life, becomes a raving crazy person when they miss Christmas. I call BS. You’d think there were plans along the way for conversations, video calls, or something. (By the way, six-year olds aren’t that good about talking on the phone.)

Caroline may have recently lost her husband, but she’s too hot for Easton to wait. At the same time, she searched him out, but is 100% controlling, balking at Easton’s every attempt to be his kids dad. I disliked her more with every word. Then, suddenly, she makes up her mind to be okay with everything, and - TADA- all is well. They will be a family. Easton will adopt the kids. The grandparents are no longer a concern.

I finish books on principle. There’s only been one so bad I had to stop. All I wanted was to be done. So Disappointing.

I gave up on this book 24% off. I can't offer a rating because the hero (Easton) was absolutely immature, still 20% in. Caroline had a huge life changing event and all Easton does is center himself. I couldn't read anymore of his screaming. At 23, it's understandable he's not perfect. But he had zero redeemable quality as a bachelor.

I love a hockey romance. This wasn't one of them.

Shutout is the first book in the new exciting spin off series of the Seattle Sockeyes hockey team.
The story is really good and the second chance at love is one of my favourite trope, with the single parent, surprising paternity and hockey there is nothing I can't like and enjoy about it.

Caroline and Easton relationship is complicated. They met a few years earlier, there was a lot of passion and chemistry between them but they were too young for commitment and Easton has already the big dream to play in the NHL after college so he left her breaking her heart.
Now after years Caroline has to track down Easton to give him a shocking news. Will they find a new routine or will they be slave of their passion again?

I really like Jami Davenport stories so I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Do you ever finish a romance and think, “Whelp that’s not gonna last”?

That is very much me with this couple. The heroine is insufferable, assuming the worst intentions and pushing the hero away at every turn. The hero is better, but not by much, considering he continually takes the “beg forgiveness, not ask permission” approach. They didn’t actually work through any of their issues — they just said “yep let’s be together!” and pretended everything was sunshine and roses. (If you’re furious he bought a dog without consulting you, it stands to reason you’d be furious when he bought a house without consulting you too.)

I don’t know if six year olds are actually that annoying, but the hysterics and mood swings from the kids were a bit much too.

There was also a LOT of focus on couples from a previous series and on setting up the heroes for future books. Distracted from the story at hand.

Easton knows he is missing something. He can feel his life is off. He should be elated to be part of a great NHL team, and instead he is wondering what if. Then he gets the bombshell of his life.

Caroline is scared out of her mind to see Easton again. She has to give up a part of herself and it already hurts. The memories still haunt her when she thinks of them. Can they learn to put the past behind them for the greater good?

This book is one of the reasons why I keep reading all that this author has to offer. Such deep and emotion filled characters that are a joy to read. With a rich and interesting storyline this is a good read.

This could have been good, the plot was good. But it was executed so bad.

Literally woman’s husband dies in a car crash and 3 months later she gives her 6 year old twins an ancestry dna test bc her husband was adopted and she wanted to know about his bio family’s health. Turns out her kids are from her teenage summer fling not her husband (the husband was her high school sweet heart and they got back together days after the summer fling ended) the fling had grown up to be a famous hockey player who always considered her “the one that got away”.

The entire book is her not being allowed to grieve her husband and the kid’s bio dad trying to convince her to fuck him. Literally every single time they’re together he’s trying to sleep with her and making remarks about it. Again, her husband of 7 years, the man who raised her kids, JUST DIED.

Then he tries to convince her to be a family with him. Trying to force her to tell the kids he’s their biological dad not the man they’re barely grieving.

It was literally a train wreck. The characters were awful. The plot was ruined. Ick.

Easton and Caroline met as teenagers but Easton was sure happiness lead down the path towards hockey and left Caroline, breaking her young heart.
Fast forward and now that Easton has it all he still feels something is missing in his life, he may have the career he's always wanted but that's not filling his heart completely.
Fate, though tragic intervenes and gives this couple a second chance.
The chemistry between Easton and Caroline is still there years later but with 2 young children to think of, should they even consider having a relationship again and will Caroline ever get over the fact Easton left her for Hockey and in doing so broke her heart and trust.
This was a good read, I really liked Easton and his persistence to be part of his childrens lives, I also liked his friends and team mates who were always on hand to have a laugh with or dish out advice.
Caroline I got frustrated with sometimes, she brought Easton into her childrens lives but then kept trying to block him out of it again, her emotions and decisions were very contradictory.
Looking forward to reading about more of the puck brother sockeyes.

DNA and fatherhood!

Easton Black had finally made the Seattle Sockeyes after all of his hard work and giving up the girl of his dreams but he knew they were both young and they had a lot of growing up to do.

Caroline Mills was a young widow when she found out her husband wasn’t the father of the twins but she knew she needed to tell Easton that he was a dad six years after the twins were born.

Jami Davenport has brought us back to the Seattle Sockeyes hockey team with a story that is very much real life with DNA tests and such but definitely with her trademark hockey romance where Easton and Caroline figure out what they need to do for their twins before rekindling their relationship.

I can’t wait for more books about the Seattle Sockeye’s and now I want to do a re-read of the earlier books.

Easton and Caroline knew each other when they were teenagers. At 16 Easton had the girl and the hockey dream but he knew they were too young and she had her whole future ahead of her . They parted ways and even though he loved her he also knew she had a life and a family and he wasn't going to interfere with that.

Caroline had the house, white picket fence, loving husband and the cutest twins.. When her husband unexpectedly dies she finds out he was adopted and his parents want her to do a DNA test on the twins so they could find anyone from her husband's biological family.

When the test show he isn't their father, she knows who is but will the hot shot hockey player step up to the plate ?

Second chance romance with a mix of secret baby mixed in. This is the first book in the Scoring Series and good start to it. Easton and Caroline had a great chemistry and attraction that stood the test of time. Can’t wait to read more of this series.

Jami's books have been an auto-buy for me but not anymore - the last few have not been good. In Shutout the characters are undeveloped and unlikable. There is very little "story" to the book - extremely disappointing.

5 star Review Shutout: A Seattle Sockeyes Novel (The Scoring Series Book 1) by Jami Davenport

Jami Davenport is off to a flying start with the first book in her latest series. This is a second chance at love story that ticked all the boxes for me.

Every time I read a book I by this author, I think “oh this is my favourite” and then along comes another book to prove me wrong.

Caro had a hard life as a teenager and one of the brightest moments in her life was the relationship she had with Easton. When he broke her heart and left to pursue his hockey dreams she was devastated and turned to her old boyfriend Mark to ease the pain. .

Fast forward a number of years and Easton knows that he is missing something in his life but exactly what that is, he is unsure. Caro on the other hand has found happiness and has a family with her husband Mark, until tragedy strikes.

When Caro learns some shocking news, she knows she has no alternative but to re connect with Easton. The sparks that fly between Easton and Caro are just as intense as when they were younger, however these two have a shared past that may not be so easy to put behind them. Will the chemistry and obvious attraction that still remain be enough for them to overcome the hurts of the past and find a future together?

From the start of Shutout, I wanted these two to get back together, not only for themselves but for the children. It was obvious to those around them that these four people deserved to make a happy life together.

The pain that the twins have gone through with the loss of their father was palpable and tears welled in my eyes as they struggled to come to terms with all the changes that were happening around them.

The secondary characters were entertaining and I appreciate that Ms.Davenport’s characters are not perfect, human if you will and the situations they find themselves in are easy to relate too.

Ms. Davenport had me hooked from the first to the last chapter of this well written story. Shutout is an entertaining story that captivated me and I cannot wait to read more in this exciting new series.

**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**

I'm a sucker for a good sports romance and Shutout was a very good one. As the first book in the Scoring Series, we meet up with some familiar names if you've read Davenport's Seattle Sockeyes series, but we also meet a new crop of rookies.

Easton Black is concentrating on making the Seattle Sockeyes team as a rookie. He knows there is something missing in his life, but he's not quite sure what it is. A couple of years prior, he tracked down his ex-girlfriend, the one that got away, and he realizes that he's too late; she's married and has children. He refocuses on hockey and hopes it will fulfill him.

Caroline Mills has recently lost her husband much too soon and she is now dealing with that loss while also raising her two young twins. When she finds out from her husband's parents that he had been adopted and had never know, it spurs her on to get a DNA test done so the children can know their father's side of the family. What she never expected was that her husband was not the father of her twins, the man she had such a connection with for a short period when she was young is.

Knowing she has to do the right thing, she reaches out to Easton and asks to meet him. The chemistry between them is still unbelievable and off the charts, but she knows she's got to do the hard thing and tell him he's a father. Things don't go well right off the bat, but slowly Easton ends up spending time with the kids and unavoidably with Caro as well. Will these two people that still have such a strong connection be able to create the family that maybe they should have had all along or will things fall apart?

I enjoyed this story and I'm really looking forward to what's coming with some of the other rookies. It's clear that Davenport has set us up for some very interesting stories to come!

Caroline and Easton, Easton and Caroline

Little did they realize that the summer they met as teenagers and had a romance that would change their lives forever.

Caroline had a hard teenage life and thought she had finally conquered it all with love, marriage and twins. Sadly it would all come to a startling end when her husband was killed in a car accident, then his parents revealed he had been adopted and when she did the DNA test to get a link to their other family’s wasn’t what she thought........he was NOT the father. It was Easton, the boy she had fallen in so love with that summer who had then broken her heart.

Easton remembers that summer well, in fact several years later he went searching for his true love to see if maybe there was a second change but he discovered she was married with kids. So hockey was his number one priority which helped make it onto the Seattle Sockeyes team and become one of the Puck Brothers. He never imagined being contacted by Caroline a few years later and discover he those twins he saw, where actually his.

The spark had never been extinguished between the two of them, but now they had to work on a quick solution not just them but the kids. Easton wanted to be a part of their lives immediately, but Caroline wanted to hold back scared of having another tragedy and heartbreak. Could they work it out and become a family or would broken hearts always be in the way? This new generation of players on the Seattle Sockeyes hockey team is definitely making an impact on the game and the city!

Jami has written another hit romance book with The Shutout! Not too often will there be a second chance at love, let alone one from when you are a teenager. She was able to take what many dream of happening and making it come true. Can’t wait to read the next in the series!!

What do you do when you discover your children don't share DNA with your late husband? Anger, freakouts, and a whole plethora of emotions are what happens. Caroline has to confront the "boy" who broke her heart years ago and tell him that he is a father. Easton's whole world gets turned upside down by that revelation. These two drove me crazy. I liked them and I disliked them. I just wanted to shake them and tell them to work it out. I got that Caro had trust and control issues, but she was also grieving. I got that Easton was angry but his anger really pissed me off. I didn't like Caro's control issues. It bothered me that she kept fighting Easton on everything. But Easton bothered me by not taking to Caro and just pushing his ideas and plans on her without caring what she thought. These two needed to be a united front and that isn't how things started out. It was bothersome. I also have to say I was not a huge fan of Juniper's. She was supposed to be Caro's friend. Yeah, I got she wanted her friend to be happy but I personally thought she was a horrible friend. She was all team Easton all the way and didn't care how Caro felt. This book just agitated me. I am really happy these two got their HEA though, and I'm looking forward to reading more of these young Sockeye players. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*

“Shutout” is a sports romance book with a helping of second chance romance and a side of secret baby(s) goodness. Having never read anything by this author, I jumped at the chance to read an ARC of this book. Easton is an up and coming professional hockey player. He’s young, sexy, single and living the life. Caroline is a mother of twins and a widower, she is beautifully broken and trying desperately to keep it together. Discovering her deceased husband was adopted; she has DNA tests run on her children, to determine if there are any genetic issues to be concerned about. Her worst fears are unfounded but a new one takes its place, her dead husband is not their father, but a certain sexy hockey player she had a teenage summer romance with, was. Reconnecting with Easton for the sake of her children has them slam back into each other’s lives and to face their past actions, feelings and attraction. Coming together for the sake of their newly formed family ignites their feelings for one another and brings them together. Their HEA isn’t easy but ever so sweet when they finally work their way towards it. TBR and enjoy.

Some people are lucky enough to meet their One Person at a young age, but sometimes it takes a little more time to get the HEA.. This is the story of Easton and Caroline. Jami Davenport extends her Sockeye’s Family to include new Teammates, The Puck Brothers. Shutout is the story of the first of these new guys, Easton. Easton made what he felt was the right decision for his future at a very young age when he first met Caroline. A decision he questioned over the next 7 years. Caroline lived with the decision Easton made for her as well, with some consequences she was not aware of until she suffered a tragedy of her own. Shoutout follows the story of how Easton and Caroline work thru their own fears and concerns about relationships to find their way back to each other and their HEA. We get to visit with some of our favorite characters from the previous series like Ice and Coop as a bonus. Again, Jami Davenport brings a heartwarming story that you don’t want to end and I can’t wait for more from this group of “Brothers”.

After reading most of the earlier Seattle Sockeye books, I was looking forward to this new generation!
Easton (I can’t think of a better name for a hockey player) has finally made it into the NHL when he hears from his summer love of seven years ago.
Easton and Caroline shared a steamy summer of teen love and after the breakup at the end of summer, Caro was pregnant. She went on to marry her on again/off again boyfriend Mark and assumed the twins were his.
After Carol loses her husband, she learns the truth about who fathered the twins. After reaching out to Easton, it seems like the feelings they felt as teenagers have never gone away for either.
I liked the pace of the relationship as Easton and Caro find their way as parents and possibly a family.
Looking forward to more Sockeyes!

Great story, it pulled me in right from the first page and I love it! 5 hockey pucks for this one!
Meet Easton, rookie for the Sockeyes, he did it, with hard work and dedication he made the team and he couldn't be happier, or could he. He dreams of the one that he felt got away, they shared two months together, what he know realizes were the best of his life. If only she hadn't moved on.
Caroline, the one that moved on after Easton, or at least she thought she did. After suffering a terrible loss, losing her husband, she finds out all may not be as it seemed. She finds out something she never knew about the twins family.
I don't want to give to much away, I feel you have to read along and experience first hand all that happens with these two. I will say you will fall in love with the kids in this story! Grab this one asap!
