The quirky fantasy adventures of an impossibly strong woman warrior, hoping to win the love of her crush--the Hero! Warrior Woman doesn’t want much out of life, other than to get Hero to fall in love with her. But no matter how hard she tries to show off her feminine side, he only sees her as a fellow adventurer. Maybe that’s because she’s the strongest fighter alive—strong enough to slay a dragon with a single blow! Does Warrior Woman have what it takes to win Hero’s heart without accidentally killing him in the process?
A hilarious and silly manga about a Warrior Woman who wants to be notice by the hero…. cue a lot of hilarious situations as she tries EVERYTHING.
I have had my eyes on this manga for some time and finally I had the chance to read this one and boy I laughed so much. This was just too funny!
Meet our Warrior Woman, once she fell in love with a boy and decided to become superstrong, but now she wishes she wasn’t that strong… because her crush doesn’t notice her anymore. And even more rudely, doesn’t see her as a girl. Yep. But does she give up? OH no, this girl keeps trying and trying and trying. I really loved her character, and I had a laugh at all her tries (though please no more make-up, haha), though I would also like her to accept who she is. You don’t need to be ultra feminine to get a guy.
And she tries all sorts of things. From raiding a thieves cave and try to get a special fancy dress that is sure to woo the men (with a fun fashion show) to making “food”. Yes, I say “food” as I am not sure what it is, but I think even the mom in Clannad makes better bread. And that says a lot.
Along the way… the hero dies quite a bit. Yep. She tries to be so affectionate or more feminine that she kills him. Though sometimes he makes a remark or did something stupid and our girl forgets her own strength. Either way, the priest has to help the hero quite a bit. XD
I loved the quests and seeing the monsters/the villains they are defeating. At times I did feel sorry for them as the warrior woman is a bit OK A LOT overpowered. I mostly felt sorry for the demon princess (or whatever she was) near the end of the volume, oh girl you interrupted something, RIP you. And I loved the reactions of the villains/monsters when they found out that you shouldn’t piss off a warrior woman. Teehee.
I did think it was very harmful/rude/harsh that the hero and other characters (but thankfully not the mage/priest) saw our warrior woman as a boy/man. Just because of how she looks/how strong she is/how buff she is. That is just NOPE in my eyes. I mean the hero is even so stupid/dumb/rude that he pops in when she is changing. Or when he comes out of the men room and she walks by thinks she also needs to use the toilet. And there are other instances and frankly, I just wanted to kick the hero to the street. And wish our girl would see that this guy is all glam and glittery but has no brain left. She should find someone who likes her for who she is.
I love that instead of chapters we have levels!
I wouldn’t mind learning more about the priest or the mage. I mean I definitely didn’t expect THAT of the priest when the warrior woman and mage had that conversation.
The art was really pretty and I love the character designs. I am also glad that the mangaka went with the outfit that the warrior woman wears in this one, though I also don’t mind some parts with her new outfit. 😛
All in all, a hilarious manga that made me laugh so many times. I will keep on reading!
Ive never read a book that is so offensive to women. It made me disgusted with myself that I was consuming such problematic content, and the worst part is that i think it was supposed to be progressive? URRRRRGHHHH!! Warrior women only validates herself according to if her crush likes her and is constantly attempting to make herself fragile and less than him so that she is worthy. She doesn’t care about anything else. And on top of this her character and illustration is extremely sexualized and the clothing and positions she is shown in is so inappropriate. She is never “girly” enough, just because she has muscles, which btw the drawing doesn’t show at all!!! She still looks like a hyper sexualized female body and still everyone thinks she is a male because she is strong, although she walks around in a bikini all the time. I honestly cant with this.
A young girl falls in love with a visiting hero and wants nothing more than to adventure with him and win his affection. She trains for years and gets her wish, but she’s now so strong that she’s no longer seen by him as a woman. Hi-jinx attempt to ensue.
So, easily my favourite part of this book is that Warrior Woman’s problems are all external. She’s a total badass and fit as hell, but Hero is so stupid dense that he’s the one causing her to have a complex about her abilities and sending her off into these weird schemes.
It’s fitfully amusing - the first chapter has the best joke (Warrior Woman complaining about a bruised leg while a literal geyser of blood is erupting from her nose) and it slowly declines from there. The odd joke lands but a lot of the stories are either rehashes of cliches or just not that funny (it takes a better translator than we have here to make the word ‘piss’ as funny as they think it is).
Early on, Warrior Woman gets literally violated by a slime (literally-literally, it’s... fairly icky) and this book reveals its true intention - fan service with a fantasy glaze. If this book cared as much about its hackneyed Dragon Quest parodies as it did about undressing its heroine it’d be hilarious.
If what you’re looking for IS said fan service, you could do worse. The art IS really good, so I can’t fault it on that one (the panel that ends chapter one is something else and one of the funniest images in the book). But without the story backing it up it lacks a little something for me.
They also really waste the other two supporting characters, Mage and Priest. I still have no idea what the point of Priest is beyond a fairly cute running gag where she keeps having to heal or resurrect characters because of the damage inflicted by Warrior Woman.
Mage is a vulnerable waif and they do not do nearly enough with the fact that Hero pays a lot more attention to her as somebody in need of protection. There’s a rich vein that could be mined there and they barely touch it. Both characters could, and should, add more to the story.
2.5 stars, but it’s... not funny enough to warrant either another volume or my rounding up. Making me truly laugh is a tough prospect for print media - though better books have managed it - and absent that this doesn’t offer much for this reader.
If you want a fantasy story that’s got a ridiculous setting and genuine comedy and, yes, also some fan service, I would recommend Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle, which is, honestly, a lot more fun.
This was fun, not really deep, but fun. There's a young girl who falls in love with the Hero, and decides to train hard so she can become an adventurer and be in his party when she gets older. Fast forward a few years, and she's Warrior Woman, partied with Hero as well as Mage and Priest. She's super powerful now- so powerful, she can defeat monsters with one blow, so powerful that Hero doesn't see her as female. Each chapter follows the party's adventures, as Warrior Woman tries to get Hero to notice her, and shenanigans ensue. The humor is silly and fun, the fan service isn't overly boobily (it's more tame than I was expecting, to be honest), and you can't help liking and rooting for Warrior Woman. The old school 2D graphics and text boxes that show up occasionally add a nice touch, especially in contrast to the really fab artwork. While I can't see this being a long series, I think it's got several volumes in it still- I want Hero to finally realize Warrior Woman is indeed a woman, or for Warrior Woman to wise up and find a guy who appreciates her. This would make a fun anime, and I'm hoping one will get made- there's great slapstick potential here!
If Who Says Warriors Can't Be Babes? was an anime, it would be one of those ones with 3-5 minute episodes that are only loosely connected in any sort of overall storyline. In this hilarious manga, Warrior Woman falls in love with Hero and gets stronger so she can become a member of his adventuring party and be close to him. Except - oops! She maybe got *too* strong, and it seems like Hero doesn't even realize she's a WOMAN.
Each chapter is basically a one shot of Warrior Woman trying something to make Hero fall for her. Think Wile E. Coyote in the Roadrunner cartoons, only instead of trying to kill him and failing she's trying to make him fall in love with her (which sometimes kills him - good thing Priest can resurrect people!) This comic is completely hilarious and so much fun to read, I'll definitely be checking out the next volume in the series.
A digital ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via Edelweiss+ for review. All opinions are unbiased and my own.
Overall I enjoyed reading it, but it just felt like it could have been more. The Dragon Quest references can be good and have gotten a good few chuckles out of me, the art is amazing, and overall it had a simple flow to it that allowed me to just read without thinking too much.
But there were many times where the jokes fell flat, or were just terrible (specifically that slime "joke" at the beginning). I wish the two supporting cast members of Mage and Priest were used more than almost being left as an after thought. The glimpses of combat were enjoyable but unfortunately that was also few and far between.
I think I will continue with this for now because, even with all its flaws, I still had quite a bit of fun reading through it.
As a fan of both JRPGS like Dragon Quest and the Ecchi genre in general I absolutely loved this manga! It's funny and sexy without being so far over the top that it kills the fun. It doesn't take itself seriously and don't devolve into a vehicle for gratuitous fan service like many stories in this genre tend to do after a few panels. If you're looking for a light, funny and sexy little romp through your favorite JRPG then this is the manga for you! Already looking forward to the next installment.
The copious amounts of fan-service aside, this was actually quite amusing, especially in the over-exaggerated obliviousness of our Hero, which seems to be saying something about the typical dense shonen protagonist. Warrior Woman's mental gymnastics were rather over-the-top, but I think the most entertaining part was how overpowered she is. How has she not wiped the entire party yet? Or gotten completely fed up with the Hero.
It was cute! I like that she’s a himbo. It gets a little repetitive, but there’s only 2 more volumes of this so I have hopes it’ll wrap up before it drags on too much.
