With time ticking away, can they pull off the impossible and destroy the most malevolent and primordial vampire of all time?
4.5 Stars This is an intense read and I enjoyed it a lot. I loved the story and the characters. Micki is an interesting teenager who doesn't know how to fit in among her agemates. Candy is the perfect side-kick anyone can ask for and they both become best friends forever. I enjoyed their interactions. It was amusing to see the two them having fun and getting themselves into trouble. Valentine's character was intriguing and he soon became one of my favorite characters in this story.
Micki is attracted to Valentine but she doesn't trust him. After all, he does seem involved with the creepy people who are trying to hurt Micki. The only problem is that she doesn't know the whole truth. This small Southern town seems to be hiding more secrets than she can process. At least, she has Candy by her side. Together they might figure out a solution to her current dilemma. One thing is for sure, there is no way she will go through with the crossing even if it meant losing her life.
I enjoyed reading this book. It is funny, scary, and quite romantic at times. I loved the beginning and I loved the bittersweet ending as well. I'd recommend it to all paranormal fans. This novel portrays vampires in a unique way which I found very entertaining.
The Crossing has an interesting take on vampires/witches. Jo Wilde definitely held my interest as the story dived into a small town in Louisiana following Micki as she falls head first into the paranormal world she never believed existed. Can't wait to see what future books Jo releases!
This is a phenomenal book!!!! Jo Wilde's world building is stellar. Strong characters with twists and turns around every corner make this a must read!!!!!
I was gifted this book by a friend who thought I would like it. And she was right! It is a good book and my favorite genre. Mickie is an unhappy child. She gets busted and is sent to live with her father. There she meets bikers who try to make her drink blood. One of them saves her but strange things start happening to her. She has no idea what's going on. I do not give away spoilers. So you will have to read it to find out what happens. This is a well written book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes this genre
Mick was sent to live with her dad. She was lured by her new friends and attacked by vampires. Can she find a cure before she becomes one herself? You will have to read the book to find out.
Micki O'Sullivan had messed up, and with a step-father who can't stand children, let alone teenagers, it was just the excuse he needed to have her shipped off to her father in Eastwick. It would be a new beginning for her, but little did she know this little Louisiana town harbors a dark secret, and the new beginning she had intended is not the one she seems fated to received. Attempting to make friends she finds herself ambushed in a life-changing encounter. Exposed to vampire blood she is destined to cross, that is, unless she can discover the identity of the sire and kill them before it is too late.
Jo Wilde's The Crossing is a paranormal tale of romance, friendship, and danger. Written in a compelling first-person narrative the reader will find themselves easily transported into the mind of Micki, something further facilitated by the fact the narrative fully embraces Micki's age and remains true to her character throughout. With the looming threat of her crossing approaching Micki begins to learn to true meaning of friendship as her BFF, Candy, stands beside her. He is a great character, his sassy, charismatic energy, and humor mesh perfectly with Micki's no nonsense attitude. She knows who she is and won't compromise. The characters are well-presented and develop throughout the plot, and the scene setting flows nicely to create a good impression of the locations. Friendship, secrets, and danger come together in a ticking clock plot to make an enjoyable read for young adults and above.
Absolutely perfect. Can't wait for book two. Micki is a fantastic character and I just loved Candy!!! I wish I had a dad as cool as Henry. So much happens in this book and I could not put it down. Better than Twilight. Jo Wilde is awesome. Can't wait to see what she does next!!!!
Get in at the beginning and follow this new YA author from book one! Jo Wilde is a promising young author with a unique paranormal first book. Great relationship development in both families and friendships. Everyone should be lucky enough to have a best friend as loyal and funny as Candy. Dive in now to find some best friends of your own!
Micki may have terrible luck. She got into legal trouble in New York with drugs, and they really weren’t even hers. Being sent to live with her father and grandfather in Louisiana might just be the change of luck she needs.
Micki detested her step-father. She might miss her mother but definitely fits into her father’s home much better. Now all she needs is friends and her senior year could be alright. Her first day in the new school, Micki meets Wendy and her two shadows. Wendy seems friendly enough so when she invites Micki to a party, Micki decides to give the friendship a try.
What she finds instead of a party will change her life and the way she sees the world forever! How does one recover from a violent prank? Especially since Micki isn’t willing to let her dad know what happened.
Lucky for Micki’s sanity, she meets someone who proves to be a true friend. Her neighbor, Candy may be the only one who can help Micki out of the new trouble she has fallen into.
A book to sink your teeth into ... Mixing teen angst with paranormal romance in Lousianna, Jo Wilde creates a heightened world of vampires, witches and hilarious next-door neighbor, Candy, whose flair and humor save new girl Micki Lea Brown from boredom and a cursed clique at school. But he may be a tad late to the party because Micki's already met beautiful, brooding vamp Valentine who is hellbent on watching over her, even during inappropriate times. This brings out the green gills in Wendy-- who may or may not be his witchy girlfriend-- and thus begins the plotting with her sidekick sycophants. Throw in a blood guzzling bonfire, cruel cajun bikers, Micki's mysterious symptoms, a Sanhaim harvest hoedown, and poor Candy has his hands full when they're not already on his sassy hips. Wilde is crafty with quirky character development and gives a peek of just enough picturesque description to plunk us in the midst of Eastwick's best-kept secret. Feeling for Micki Lea having to be the new girl in school, we yearn for Valentine's lush lips (which just might rival Edward's), watch our back around Wendy, and want to emit bile chunks at the vile vampire gang. But most of all we wish Candy was our tell-it-like-it-is BFF. With him at our side, we don't need garlic, but he brings it anyway. I highly recommend this YA paranormal romance thriller for teens and adults who love YA.
I was given this book for an honest review. This author is new to me and I have to say, she doesn't disappoint. I love the story and the characters. There is plenty of mystery, thrills and chills. If you are a young reader, this book is suitable. Very appropriate for teens and young adults.
The story starts off with a bang when Micki finds herself in a pickle with one devil of a vampire, Diablo. She's forced to drink blood and is saved by one handsome half-vampire, Valentine. Soon Micki's body begins to start going through the change. She becomes violently ill and unable to hold down food. Valentine tries to warn her of what's happening but she refuses to listen. In the meantime, she meets her neighbor, Candy, and they become best buds. Candy is very funny and is full of attitude.
Soon Micki has to face the truth. She is changing into a vampire and if she doesn't cross over, she will die. Meaning she must give over to the dark thirst and drink human blood. Time is not on her side and with the help of Valentine and Candy by her side, she sets out to find a way to break the curse.
Valentine is an interesting sort. His whole life, he has lived from one foster home to another. He finally ran away and became a drifter, a biker with an attitude. He too had fallen victim to drinking the blood of a mysterious vampire, a sire. His time is shorter than Micki's. His end is near and soon he would have to make a decision... give in to the dark thirst and become a murderous fiend or face a painful death.
The story has loads of villains and scary moments that caused plenty of chills. I enjoyed it. I think it is a great story, the plot is strong and the characters are interesting and engaging.
The ending was unexpected and shocking. A huge surprise at the end. I did not see it coming! Love, love the story. I think you will too!
When teenager Micky is sent to live with her father and grandfather in Louisiana, her whole world seems to take a strange turn. She loves living with her father (she’d hated the man who had married her mother. They would likely never find a way to get along.) But small town life as opposed to living in a big city in New York was only part of the changes she would have to deal with.
In her first week at the high school, she runs afoul of the local "mean girls" and soon discovers that she has been chosen by, is expected to become the mate of a vampire, and the beginning of the transformation to make her his has been forced upon her. Talk about a rough first week in a new school! How does one deal with learning they are becoming a vampire? And can she discover a way to stop it before it is too late?
I enjoyed reading this book. It was an interesting young adult vampire story that touched upon a number of themes that do affect teenagers today. The main character did not willingly choose to drink the vampire’s blood that was forced upon her, which is something that I could easily see happening at almost any teenage party involving drinking in the world today. And her responses were very realistic given the situation she found herself in.
I do feel that the book could have used another round with an editor/proofreader to smooth out some of the typos, but the story was still worth reading and quite enjoyable despite the errors I ran across. I was glad that I took the time to read it.
Micki is glad to get away from her mom and jerk of a husband and move in with her dad in Louisiana. She is forced to drink something blood, thinking it's a joke, but she begins to change. With the witchy popular girls giving her a hard time and the mysterious cute boy not giving up answers, Micki has to figure out who the sire is and kill them before she crosses over to an evil immortal existence forever.
This YA paranormal tale is a gender bent take on The Lost Boys. If you're searching for such a story, it's entertaining. It's a nice change of pace that the protagonist has a kind and understanding father instead of having to rebel against everyone. Micki dealing with the divorce of her parents and their new lives after the fact is well done. If you're a fan of the original Lost Boys, this story may get on your nerves. Instead of the Frog Brothers, you have the gay best friend, and there are vampy biker toughs. There is even the wacky grandfather who has a line at the end almost exactly like the grandfather did in the movie. The twist is the same. Why the character on the cover has swords, I don't know. There are no swords involved in the story.
3.5⭐️ “The Crossing” is book one in Jo Wilde’s The Chronicles of Micki O'Sullivan series.
This series follows 17 year old Micki. Being sent to live with her father Henry in Louisiana, after having some trouble with the law. Micki finds herself in the middle of something that can only be dreamed up, a myth. Wanting to make friends Micki agrees to go to a party with some girls from School. Things go wrong and being attacked has Micki’s life changing. Needing to stay out of trouble, Micki meets Candy, her new BFF, but trouble seems to be lurking around each corner. Trying to keep her family and BFF safe has Micki finding herself in more danger and trouble than before.
This is the second book I have read by this author. I did enjoy this story, it was unique, intriguing, new, interesting and engaging. But I did find somethings to be frustrating and confusing, there were a few small things that messed with the timeline, characters traits and events being off. But if you are able to overlook these small things I do believe you will be able to enjoy this story. I look forward to reading The Haunting.
Micki is on her way to live with her father in Eastwick. She has not had an easy time with the divorce of her parents, her mother's affair, then her marriage to her boss. Micki and step father do not get along. So when she is busted for pot, that is when she is sent to her father. Micki is looking forward to living with him. Micki meets a boy that she is instantly drawn to. There is a group of girls that invite her to a party. She is suspious of them, as she can't get a real read on their auras. She decides to go, that is when she is forced to drink blood by one of the guys. The guy from school tries to help her, gets her out of there. Micki also meets her neighbor, they become fast friends. Micki is going through some major changes. She doesn't know what is going on. But she realizes more that Valentine is not lying to her.
This is just an idea of what is going on with this book, there is so much I didn't write. There are some really great moments. I highly recommend you reading this book.
I should say upfront that I almost never read young adult books and have no appetite for vampires, but Jo Wilde’s offering caught my eye and it never hurts to dump your prejudices now and then. The Crossing is a good read. The story takes a little while to get going as the main character Micki brings the reader up to date on her family situation - there’s a need for the set-up; placed anywhere else and it would drag on the pace - but once that brake is off, what evolves is a gripping thriller. Micki is an outsider, too pretty to have girlfriends, but when she moves in with her dad and attends a new school, things turn out to be very different from her old life back in New York.
The author has a pleasing style, good descriptive skills and builds the atmosphere. The protagonist is well-developed and real with all of her foibles. And her friend Candy is great! There’s romance, humour, a great set of weird and wonderful characters, and an evil vampire to fight off. Good ending, too. Recommended.
I loved this book. What I liked about this story is that any age can read this. The story flows well and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. There were intense moments and moments of laughter. The story is about a young teenager, Micki, that becomes infected with vampire blood. Terrified and a typical teen, she tries to resolve the problem with her best friend, Candy, and love interest, Valentine, a drifter biker half-vampire. The three of them set out to find the sire but Micki has her own ideas who the sire might be and ignores Valentine's advice and goes after a peer, she believes is the sire. Things get crazy and the plot thickens. The story is a fun read. The ending is intense and leaves you breathless wanting more. The romance between Valentine and Micki is sweet and endearing. This book is suitable for teens and adults. I recommend this book for all ages.
A stand alone book about Mick, a girl new to a small town due to family drama, finding herself in a bad way when she is forced to drink vampire blood. As a result she’s fighting the urge to take blood and “cross” the stretch between being a human and vampire. Throw in the brooding gorgeous Valentine who quickly falls in love with Mick and helps her to try and bring down their mysterious sire before it’s too late. I did expect some extra fight in Mick, especially as the cover shows her holding a sword and some other glowing artifact? You also never find out specifically why the vampires consider her special other than that she can see aura’s. it would have been great to see Candy’s mum join forces in the battle, perhaps with Grandpa? It also ties up a bit quickly but is an enjoyable ride. It does leaves some unanswered questions with Valentine, so not quite a happily ever after ending.

Mickie is 17 and lives in New York with her mother and stepfather. Not happy, she causes all kinds of trouble. She is busted with drugs and sent to live with her father in Louisiana. There, she meets three girls in school. She goes with them her second night and meets up with some nasty bikers. One tries to force her to swallow blood and starts choking her. Another one of them saves her and takes her home. Weird things start happening to her body. She befriends her neighbor Candy who goes along for the journey to help discover what is going on and how to fix it. People end up dead, mesmerized and others missing. Mickie’s life is spiraling out of control and she is facing the crossing…and does not know what to do~ For those of you who are fans of Lost Boys, this story is somewhat similar but in reverse. It contains many other nuances that the movie did not!
It was the first book i read from Jo Wilde and it was a nice story. Micki - a young teen girl- is the main character of the book and we follow her story as she finds herself being into trouble after hanging out with the wrong guys. I found myself liking Candy(best friend of Micki) most of everyone else - yes more than Micki and Valentine as well lol - because he is there for Micki to support and help every time she is need. He is also hilarious and his cajun accent is to die for. Overall the pace of the story was fast i was hooked without even noticing it. i would definitely recommend you to read it if you like cute paranormal stories
Jo Wilde has really created a world that is so unique.
Micki is an awesome character who has that spunk and fight within her. Her whole world changes when she moves from New York to Louisiana. She meets some very interesting people, like Candy. He becomes a great friend with an accent and way of speak that is all new to her. She meets Valentine, who she falls for. He is really there for her when times are tough. But things happen for Micki that she never saw coming.
Great YA book for those who are fans of vampires, witches, and overall supernatural.
A thrilling story of a teenage girl called Micki who moves to a town called Eastwick to live with her father and grandfather where she is quickly pulled into a devastating problem with some girls at her new school and then meets a new best friend called Candy. Together, Micki and Candy find out about vampires and other odd things about the town they live in along with Micki falling for a boy called Valentine.
This book was a pageturner for me. I enjoyed it immensely.
This book is so good. The storyline and characters were amazing! It was very hard to put this book down. Mick is a strong character, in charge of her own fate. Candy is an amazing friend,he needs a medal and he is so funny too. Valentine surprises you in the end. I would like to know more about him. I am glad I found this author, I'm really enjoying her writing. And look forward to more written by her.
This is such an enjoyable story! Micki moves to Eastwick to live with her dad and has her eyes opened to something she never thought could be possible. What a great story line and great characters.
I loved the friendship between Micki and Candy and seeing the bond grow between Micki and her father.
The Crossing is filled with intrigue, especially the ending. An entertaining story that will keep you enchanted to the end.
I wish people would do research on an area and culture before they write a book. This book is insulting to the people of Louisiana. This author obviously has no idea about the area surrounding Shreveport nor the local dialect. Get a clue. Please research this stuff before writing about it.
I loved the FMC she was a awesome chick . Valentine 😍 I would love to see the inspiration picture for him . Candy is awesome I loved his no nonsense character. Plus dad and grandpa are some awesome men .
Great story. It’s written perfect for YA readers but I really enjoyed it. The characters Micki, Valentine, Candy and Wendy are intelligent, funny, charismatic and loyal. They developed well though out the story. A few twists and turns kept me turning the pages!
This is the first book I’ve read from is author and I was not disappointed, it had a great story line and characters, would recommend this book to my friends, a must read for everyone you are going to love it.
