Henry Walsh’s career as a detective didn’t last very long. As they say, he hardly had a cup of coffee. And as security director for a losing baseball team in Jacksonville, he finds the work so boring he crosses each day off the calendar, waiting for the season to finally end.
When the team once again misses the playoffs, Henry continues a late night celebration the next morning at his friend Billy’s bar. And just as he’s about to enjoy one more “hair of the dog” Bloody Mary, he gets news that’ll not only change Henry’s offseason...but the rest of his life.
The team’s third baseman, local kid Lance Moreau is found floating facedown in the St. Johns River. Lance, the same kid who grew up in Henry’s hometown of Fernandina Beach...the kid Henry’s father took under his wing and taught how to hit a baseball.
But when aging star and backup third baseman Jackie Lawson is arrested for Lance’s murder, the team’s owner asks Henry to get the the bottom of Lance’s death and prove Jackie’s innocence.
The hunt for the real killer leads Henry down a road he didn’t think he’d ever be on. But he won’t get off until he gets to the end. Because, for Henry, the truth is what drives him. And he’s not about to let anyone stop him.
Not even the cops.
