Plot: It's supposed to be "warrior woman gets sent back in time to her younger body and goes in revenge quest" but I read about one third of the story and it's pretty clear it's just a straightforward romance with a lot of cheesy tropes.
1. Very disappointed by this one. There was potential here that was just absolutely squandered, and that's way worse than a bad premise with decent writing.
2. This story could have been so good! The protagonist could easily have been so competent. But nooo all we have are "strong warrior" moments which never actually impact the plot in any significant way and a ton of naivete from the MC about pretty much everything? If you trained in isolation and fought your way to the freaking king WHY are you blushing at the merest implication of romance? It makes no sense.
3. Another thing that makes no sense is the worldbuilding. The prince beheads a nobleman and treats his head as an accessory and that's perfectly fine. But this is set in the same world where servants in the royal palace go on strike? What. The role of women in society flip-flop according to whatever the scene of the moment requires. This whole world is absolutely terribly constructed with democratic and monarchial stuff existing in tandem with no greater framework than whatever is required for the scene.
4. There wasn't a single fucking instant where Elena was competent. The love interest was an overpowered Yandere. The younger sister is the most cliche Moe character you can think of and she has a comes out of absolutely fucking nowhere romance with the ninja assassin. You're seventeen woman why are you acting like you're seven?
I don't like it when stories tell me "here's a strong female character (tm)" and then proceeds to give me two scenes where the character can swing a sword (without actually impacting the plot) and then let's someone else (the love Interest) take care of all of the problems. The SFC can then be the love interests' emotional support romance for the remainder of the plot and since we've established she can stab mooks waaay back in the beginning she's still "strong."
No. That's not how it goes. Work for it, goddammit.
5. I was actually interested in the romance there for a while but I got tired of it really soon, because (a) romance only works when the characters have skills and plot development that's outside of the romance and (b) everything inside the romance was the most cliche bullshit imaginable. I was momentarily diverted by the love interest being a jealous asshole because (much to my shame) I like jealous assholes but that only works when the object of their affections are competent and dismissive enough to negate the resulting theatrics. Unfortunately, Elena has three working braincells and they all go on vacation the moment whatshisface enters the scene so that got old pretty fast too.
6. There were a few more semi-interesting things in there- the prophecy, the magic gemstone, the evil jeweler clerk and so on. But Elena is definitely not a character well-defined enough to carry the plot on her shoulders, and not-quite-boring mini subplots aren't enough to salvage that.
DNF at chapter 148/324. The female lead is just... clueless. Where's my promised drive for revenge? Where's my promised 20 years' worth of experience on the battlefield? Where is your brain, woman! Considering that she has all these plans and a supposed readiness to go through with them, she has no idea what to do whenever an issue crop up, and laments that she can't show her "true" self in public settings as a noble. She sucks at putting up a front, which means she's always on the losing end in these political battles, and it's not from honesty or whatever, but it feels more like she just has no capability. The male lead is the usual I'm-cool-and-in-love/lust-with-you-without-any-basis, which, to be honest, is fine with me because hey, he's hot and I don't expect much out of him, but he sure does give off psychopathic vibes.
I'm also very frustrated and mildly baffled because despite my tendency to see sparks of romance in the least interaction, and considering that when they had their "meet cute" rescue, I was all, can't wait until they boink(!), I now feel no chemistry between them. The more they interact, the less coherent their relationship is. They have no sense of mutual connection. He's waaaaay into it, and she's all, oh what could he possibly mean, but not in a good way. She has no personality, and I find it difficult to relate to her. I'm just... so disappointed with this book and the waste of its promising premise.
The amount Korean transmigration webtoon series in the last two? three? years made me jump to reading webnovels now too. I'm afraid I'm this isekai hole for a long time! Also, this comment has nothing to do with the story, truth to be told, I was highly entertained & for now it is main genre of literary entertainment.
Though the plot is pretty predictable I personally liked the beginning and the ending but it got a little slow in the middle and felt like it was dragging.. But I still enjoyed the story.
the writing was really good but there was no conflict and the action died down really quickly, i get that it isn't action based but still i wanted more, the romance was utter garbage and no drama in the story so idk i got bored at the halfway mark when the story kept on foucsing on tiddious matters and the big interseting events just get skimmed over, so yeah it was good at the start and i kept on wanting more but it didn't deliver
I enjoyed reading this light move overall. It’s shorter than a lot of light novels of this genre, so the story didn’t drag on and on. I think the biggest flaw was the character building. For instance, the main protagonist swings wildly between a damsel in distress and prodigy warrior. The supporting characters develop new traits abruptly, in ways that sometimes conflict with their previously described behaviors.
What drew me into the story is that Elena was a knight in her previous life. That went down the drain faster than you could flush the contents. Story got boring and Webtoons made it as a daily one pass, which is stupid. And then I kept getting confused between Elena and Ellen, both girls looked so much alike except different eye color, that I had to keep rereading certain scenes to figure out what was going on.
4 stars because execution was good but amateur-ish, droning on about little details or glossing over other parts making it feel not so realistic.. also ml was a little extreme which the author tried to explain but it was still rough on the edges. That being said, loved all the different love stories and the plot was really fun and it was an enjoyable read!! Glad I read it 😊
This is the first webnovel I read. Generally, I like the story and the characters are all interesting. Though the plot is actually kind of predictable. The beginning and the ending are good, a little slow in the middle. But I'm still satisfied with the whole story.
review of the complete webcomic this was such a letdown. the MC was so dense and the rest of the characters were just plain boring. for all the talk about a regressed warrior avenging the misdeeds done to them, Elena pretty much took the back seat while the prince handled everything.
I thought there would be more action in this story. It felt repetitive and long. I didn’t feel a connection between the love interest and Carlisle was giving off red flags.
The story concept seemed cool, but the story needed some editing.
