Roses and Revenants

Rate this book
The dead don’t always respect my boundaries, but it’d be nice if they’d stop interrupting my coffee dates.

As the last of the esteemed Bell coven, it is my solemn duty to uphold sacred witch tradition, and to protect humanity from the restless spirits of the dead.
Instead, I'm a runaway exorcist living out of a junker van, without a care for the expectations that come with my family name. All I want is peace to work through the endless grief of my parents' horrific demise, but the universe seems determined to prevent that. The Great Covens are desperate to matchmake their way into my family fortune, and a new, sinister revenant lurks behind every mirror, a dark figure stalking me from the threshold of Death.
Thankfully, I have Eric, my ever-loyal human guardian, protecting my body and soul as I traverse the deadside. He’s watched over me my entire life, but his vow to my father to keep me safe didn't extend to my heart, still in tatters over his rejection of my feelings for him.
My childhood friend has finally tracked me down, intent on keeping me from running away again. In the five years I've been gone, Joss has become a gorgeous warlock who won't take no for an answer.
Adrian -stoic, secretive, and far too enticing for his own good- has his own reasons for dragging me away from the world of humans, but his coven is plagued by rumors of dark magic I shouldn’t get involved with.
I could handle all of that, if only Warden Stone hadn't made it his mission to annoy me to death. A deadline I'm not ready to face is looming, and this beautiful but irritating man is intent on forcing my hand.
And I thought being on my own was hard. With four alluring men pushing and pulling me where they want me, can I uncover the dark skeletons in my family’s closet before it’s too late? Or will the last of the Bell exorcists join them in Death forever?

Roses and Revenants is the first full-length novel in the House of Mirrors series, a dark, medium-burn paranormal reverse harem romance set in the Cimmerian Cage universe. With a strong heroine, steamy scenes, plenty of action and romance, and four gorgeous men in the harem, this witch will never have to choose. For mature readers only.

While I was not a fan of the academy series I read by this author, that plays in the same world, I genuinely liked this book.

It was a little dark and gritty and the atmosphere really interesting. The heroine wasn‘t your typical hyper special super snowflake - I am So fucking bored of this trope - but she was strong, knew her shit, also vulnerable without being a damsel in distress, a little rash and she promises room for growth. Her past makes her character even more intriguing, I am curious what is still to come.

The „forbidden“ age gap Love was not my thing, I enjoy a good age gap story, but if the man watches the heroine grow up from little child to grown woman and DOES NOT see her like a daughter, I think it is creepy as fuck.
The other men were interesting and promising but not worked out very well, I would have preferred a little more development on that side, characteristics and relationship wise.

As often I am missing a female friend, especially in RH stories, I think a strong female friendship does so much for me, I preferred this over the fact that she basically had only one person at her side, namely the one who should have been a father figure but wasn‘t.

Overall I liked the pacing, although not toooo much happened, I liked the premise and I am hoping for good things in the future books.

Pleasantly Surprised

I was quite surprised with the direction this book took. It was a different take on how covers and magic worked. Its a slow burn, but you def see the potential in her harem. Honestly wish we'd had a bit more, even if she didn't dice right into them, I wish we have had more stolen moment with each, have thing ratch it up a bit. However, it was more story than steam, which is not a bad thing. Sometimes I like my stories with more story, sometimes more steam. It was well written, and you got a decent glimpse into each character. I actually wish this had been written from each man's point of view as well. It would have added to it to see what each was thinking.

Just a heads up this has an age gap romance (he’s twice her age and known her for her whole life, so do with that what you will) Interesting enough besides that

It was okay but took me a loooong time to get through. Mainly because of the coven stuff- not a fan but I’ve liked the other series by this author. Secondly because of the Eric drama. I’ll still read the next one see how things go. Favourite character is Wolfe.

This book is unique, funny, eerie, heart-wrenching, a bit steamy, hopeful, unnerving and freaky as all get-out at times, and a read that will keep you curious and wanting more.

Roses & Revenants introduces readers to Mor, a mirrorwalker reluctant to return home after years away from her home, and Eric, her sexy older servitor who anchors her to this work but refuses to return her affections. When an attractive Warden with a repellent personality tracks Mor down, suddenly a beacon seems to shine on her, and memories - and people - she has avoided facing from her past catch up with her.

Cue Joss, her all-grown-up and seriously hot best friend (who she hasn't seen since leaving home), a random and very affectionate mountain lion familiar who has taken a liking to Mor, several politically-driven offers from interfering covenheads, and a dangerous creature she has never faced before when mirrorwalking.

Now that she's been found, Mor is served with an edict from the Warden; she has to decide whether to return home for good within the next six months, or let her family's possessions be divided and fought over by petty covenheads only out for more power. Can she face her past? Can she fight her feelings? Can she escape the consequences either way?

Roses and Revenants is the first in The House of Mirrors series, and I look forward to the release of the next book.

How engaging and interesting is the book, you ask?
Me, as I went to read Roses and Revenants:
-9pm: I'll just read a little before I go to sleep since I'm going to bed early, then I can finish reading it later sometime...
-2am: OMG, I did not see this or that or whatnot coming or happening or fill-in-the-blank at this place and that one spot and then over there with the things and the peeps and the wow. That was AWESOME.

This book is nail biting crazy! I loved it!! It is full mystery, intrigue and some intense moments.
Meet Morena Bell, a very powerful witch. Unfortunately her story is sad and tragic. Due to the tragedy that happened to her she decided to walk away from her heritage for a bit so that she can deal with everything. Eric Shields is a servitor that has been with her family and follows her while she tries to get over her tragedy. She is a mirror walker which is freaking crazy. She sends spirits back by mirror walking. Something happens that forces Morena to go back to her home and she is not to thrilled about it. Then Joss Thorne and Adrian Wolf come into her life. The witch covens are lying in wait to see what Morena Bell is going to do. Then the unexpected happens and secrets are revealed.

While dealing with every thing, she has to make decisions about her life. What will she do? What is going to happen with Jass, Eric and Adrian? It is a slow burn burn the chemistry is intense. The characters are awesome. I enjoyed this book very much.

I am officially in love with a book boyfriend in his forties! I am astonished and amazed by Roses and Revenants. In true Cate Corvin fashion this book was full of mystery, intrigue, and fantasy. The descriptions or people and places are so detailed everything feels real. As if I’ll walk into a covenstead one day and see an actual cornerstone.

This series is going to be the perfect mix of dark sexy men, and a hilarious heroin. More then once i was laughing out loud to this bad boy.

I was enthralled from page one , Morena Bell is a beautiful character who is trying to rebuild after loss. Eric, her sexy as all get out servitor, and my newest forty year old crush. Embark upon a journey together to unravel the mystery of what is trying to contact them from death.

As always, I’m salivating to get my hands on book two.

Happy Reading ,

Something about Cate Corvin's writing... she just GETS ME. She hooks me in from the first page and I can't put the book down till I am done. Amazing!
This is a slow burn for 75% of our romantic relationships and while sometimes that would annoy me it didn't this time. Though I would have liked to get to know some of the characters a tad bit more I know that will come with the rest of the books.
In this series we dive back into the Kissed by Wildfire Universe. I did love the world she built in that series. *I would 100% recommend you read that finished series first!* I almost feel like you need that introduction to the world and mirror walking. This books hints at the first series and some characters in that book. I can only hope we see them for a small cameo in this series :)
Can't wait for the rest of this series!!

So different from the Cimmerian Cage trilogy, but a great addition to that world. Loved the little mention of Dom thrown in here. Like all the heroines from this author, I loved Morena. She's tough most of the time because she's been dealt great tragedy, but her vulnerability shines through too, and only enhances her character.

The mystery on the Deadside is intriguing, and I really can't wait to find out what her mother caused. The men all have their own pull; it's more of a slow burn in this installment, and even though there's sex, the UST between Morena and Eric is my favorite. When they finally get together, it'll be explosive! Also looking forward to her and Adrian combining forces more.

Another great start to a new series.

Mor is the coven master of the Bell coven. A powerful mirror walking witch. Several years before she found both of her parents brutally murdered so she ran away and mixed with humans, her servitor Eric by her side. She's always been in love with him. Joss is her bestie from childhood. Adrian is blood bonded to Joss. She has to go back to her house, its been neglected far too long. Before going she takes an exorcising case that ends up far more then she can handle. This book was definitely good, going in depth with Mors background and the scenes are vivid as heck. The otherside had me scared it felt so real. I'm definitely looking forward for the next book!

Cate Corvin sure knows how to write a book that garbs you from page one and holds on tight through the roller coaster that is the story! This book is full of interesting and intriguing characters, a fully developed storyline that leaves you wanting book two immediately and captivating men! Cate Corvin has started this new series with a bang and I think it is going to get better and better with each book! This book is full of imagination and is truly unique to what else is out at the moment! Cannot wait to see what happens to Mor and her guys next...bring on book two.

Mor is still dealing with, or trying to avoid dealing with, the deaths of her parents several years ago. She is a with on the run with her servitor, Eric, who grounds her as she mirror walks. It all that changes when she is tracked down. Corvin has created an interesting magical world. I love Mor’s thinking - especially when she names one of the entity’s :) The guys - Eric, Warden, Joss, And Adrian are all interesting. Adrian intrigues me the most. This book is a little spooky too - i really tried to read as much during the daytime as possible :). But I am hooked and can’t wait for book 2!

Set in the world of her previous series, The Cimmerian Cage, Mor is the coven master of Bell Coven. With a tragic backstory you might think Mor has closed herself off from others emotionally. While she has a tough outer shell, Mor's vulnerable side does come out and helps you truly understand and connect with her.

Overall, Cate Corvin has officially become one of my one click authors. Doesn't matter what she writes, what the book is about, or how long/short it is. I will one click her every time!

This book was so good! In this series we are introduced to mirrorwalker Morena Bell. She has been through a lot in her young life and ran away from her demons, until they caught up with her. People from her past find her and she now needs to go back to where it all started. This book is filled with suspense, action, good looking men, and a snarky, brave, and courageous FMC. I highly recommend this book! I cannot wait for the next one in this series.

Mor is a mirror walker the last in her family. After grieving for her parents the time has come for her to either claim her home and magic or walk away forever. This story is really good. There is tons of action and story. The story will keep you enthralled until the end. There are lots of twists and turns along the way. I really like Joss, who was her best friend growing up and has come to find her. Adrien is very intriguing and I look forward to learning more about him.

I loved this gem of a book! It had mystery, romance and intrigue! I loved the FMC Morena who is such a wonderful character!! Morena is a powerful witch who’s life has has so much tragedy and heartbreak she’s now rebuilding it and part of that was to walk away from her Wiccan heritage and birthright. She is a mirror walker which is absolutely crazy! Her men enter her life and I can’t wait to see where it leads!!

A Must Read

If you've read the Cimmerian Cage books, then this will be right up your alley. Set in the same world, this book was simply fantastic. Even if you haven't read the Cage books, you can still read this book and not be lost. Very well written. I can't wait to see what's next for Mor and her guys.

Can’t believe it’s over

Book 2 can’t come fast enough. Mor is a fantastic female lead and seems like an actual real person dealing with sh*t. It’s not rushed and her internal dialogue is relatable given her experiences. I can’t believe wait to know what happened to her parents and get to know more about “good kitty”

Absolutely loved it!

This was a terrific story, with strong characters, and an interesting setting.
It's so refreshing to get a way from the same old bully, academy type story that has glutted the market.
I'm really looking forward to book 2!
