For the first time, the entire Black Days series is available in one action-packed collection!
Originally published individually as a monthly serial, the Black Days story arc ran through 2014 and served as a bridge between the first Gailsone novel, Big in Japan, and the second Gailsone novel, Red Rook. Each story was designed to be a stand-alone adventure, but with thematic elements tying them together. With cleaned up text and formatting, the Gailsone prequels have never looked better than they do in this, the first digital collection of Gailsone novellas.
Alice Gailsone (better known as the supervillain Dyspell) has a hard-won reputation as the Most Dangerous Woman in the World, and while she may be on the side of the angels now, that wasn’t always the case. The Black Days arc tells the story of what Alice’s life was like before she became a hero. From the first fateful solo mission of her unstable niece, Allison Gailsone, to her first superhero team-up with the fantastic Miss Major, Black Days is a sprawling collection of tales which paint a dark and fast-paced picture of the Gailsone’s life in the terrorist organization known as the Purge.
In Blood and Rust, Allison Gailsone is sent on her first mission as a field commander, only to have everything blow up in her face. With the Purge being instructed to leave Allison to her fate, Aunt Alice decides to take matters into her own hands.
In A Night at the Opera, Alice and Allison attempt a little moonlighting, but their intended target for ransom happens to be more than meets the eye. Things quickly spiral out of control, and Alice is forced to team up with her oldest and fiercest adversary if they have any hope of surviving the night.
In Date Night, Allison takes on her biggest challenge yet; social norms. Her kind-of boyfriend, a young medical officer named Doug, has thrown down the dating gauntlet. Can Allison overcome her own personal fears, set aside her violent tendencies, and enjoy a nice, normal evening out?
Blackbird’s Song is a radical departure in the Black Days series, as this novella focuses on the origins of Victoria Green, better known as the street-level hero Blackbird. Find out what steered her from a promising career as an FBI agent to the life of a vigilante, and how her first real case as Blackbird became a cat-and-mouse fight to the death against an impossibly powered nightmare of an opponent.
In The Impossible Door, the magical side of the Gailsone universe is explored. Alice finds herself in a situation she can’t handle by herself, so what’s the worst criminal in the world to do? Why, team up with one of earth’s mightiest heroes, of course! A reluctant Miss Major is forced to fight side-by-side with Alice as they take on magic, monsters, possessed robots, and one giant-sized, fire breathing problem.
The novella Black Days is the only major story in this arc that is not a prequel, as it takes place shortly after Big in Japan. Alice is put on a case that brings back too many memories for her to handle. While trying to do what’s right, Alice finds herself trapped in a no-win scenario with innocent lives on the line. Things fall apart to a point that Alice, Allison, and Aika are forced to remind their opponents that they are still the deadliest people on Earth, and that they haven’t forgotten how to fight like they did during the old days. The black days.
For the first time, Hit is now available in print. Everyone has a plan until they get hit, and no matter who we are, we all have our emotional limit. It’s something Alice has never been able to properly deal with, but with the help of a friend, she’s learning how to get back up.
