Disenchanted #2

Perseverance

Rate this book
One day I woke up, and my reality was everything I’d never wanted.

I was a widow with three small children. My appearance, my health, and especially my happiness, were no longer considerations, until I met Marco Mangini. He made me long for things to be different, for me to be different.

You really don’t know how strong you are until you recount the tragedies of your life aloud, and you really don’t know the taste of your own deficiencies until you admit them in your own voice.

Marco told me I was the strongest and bravest person he knew, but as I told him my story, I didn’t feel very strong, or very brave. I wanted to stop a hundred times and go back to hiding from my past, but that was no longer an option. This opening of my soul seemed to no longer be in my control, and I was certain it would break me.

I'm not a fan of trilogies, I want to one and done a book because so often the second or third book loses it's fizzle and tanks. Add to that I'm not a fan of prickly heroines, definitely not a fan of communication problems and don't even get me started on the old push and pull, and that pretty much ends my interest in a book .... UNLESS L.D. Davis is the author. This was freaking spectacular! The feels, the angst, the push and pull, the characters, and the feels and angst bear mentioning again.

I freaking LOVED this second book of Lydia and Marco's story, every delicious word! I'm dragging today, I started this yesterday evening and ended up finishing it in the early hours of this morning. I'd forgotten just how much I adore this author's writing.

A great angsty read but again, it should have been made clear that this was a trilogy.

Although I adore Marco and this story, I did expected more growth from Lydia's character. Too selfish and immature IMO.

Looking forward to the last installment, which I feel will be epic.

This is book 2 in Lydia and Marco's story.

Marco has been in Italy by his brother's side who is dying of cancer. His brother wants him to go back to Lydia, but his manipulating wife, Celia, Marco's ex-fiancee, tells him he will regret losing time with his brother.

Meanwhile, Lydia is doing physical therapy to strength her leg. She's more independent and driving again. She broke up with Marco because Celia became too much of a problem between them and her children.

He broke down her barriers and promised to be there to pick her up only to let her fall drastically. And Lydia crashed hard.

A must read!

In this we get a real background of what happened between Lydia and Gavin, we understand why Lydia is so insecure and protective of herself . I liked Lydia more after reading this book , I’m rooting for her , she’s a little over the top but I see her . Marco I believe he loves her but we will see what happens next , will his family loyalty interfere, with what he says is the Love of his life . On to book three.

LD Davis certainly does not hold back in this second book in the Disenchanted series. Perseverance picks up right where we left off in book one, with Marco thousands of miles away in Italy, helping his older brother deal with his bout with cancer while Lydia tries to keep it together with her 3 kids in Ohio. There is still so much unsaid between them and now that they are apart, for longer periods of time than they thought possible, the issue of trust is back at the forefront, especially for Lydia.

My goodness, this woman has been through the wringer and can't seem to keep her emotions in check even as she continues to come off as one tough broad. And boy is she ever! But I understand all the reasons for her actions, even if she goes about most of the them the wrong way. She just wants to feel safe and loved and understood. Marco came into her life like a whirlwind and he's so far embedded in her heart no amount of denial will ever be enough to keep him away.

And yes I wanted to shake Lydia more than once but she has her 3 children to think of and this fierce warrior will never let anyone or anything hurt them while she is around. But with any luck, the absolute devotion that Marco has for her and for her family will actually sink into her thick skull and maybe, just maybe, things might actually turn out for all of them once this trilogy has ended.

In the meantime, this book has plenty of ups and downs, a boatload of miscommunication and just as many confrontations that had my head spinning. But Davis is decidedly clever providing a ton of angst in only the way she can write it and I am here right now clamoring for more! So yes, I love all the crazy. I love all the passion. And I love that I'm feeling wildly uneasy since Marco and Lydia's story certainly can change on a dime. But I have a ton of faith in these two that they will clear the air, once and for all, and find that bit of happy that has alluded them both, never coming second to anybody ever again.

There is a certain delight in seeing my man Kyle once more, together with a few more easter eggs that reminded me of when I first discovered Davis's wonderful storytelling all those years ago. I am here to say she is back and better than ever with this well-written and powerfully compelling story-line that has me begging for more. I can only hope that book 3 is not far behind.

Perseverance kept me completely enraptured from start to finish and I very happily give it a solid 5 stars!!!

I loved this book. I enjoyed the first one but this one!! I loved. I think the first one set up a lot of the story and the characters, whereas Perseverance was them trying to move forward. This is Marco and Lydia giving into their feelings for each other and making it work. It's about the ups and downs, the drama and angst that they must face. And let me tell you that is plenty of drama to keep you on the edge of your seat.

I don't want to say too much about the story or what happens. All you need to know is that this book is even better than the first one. I devoured this book in just a few hours. From the moment I started it on the car ride home from a family trip I could not put it down. I wanted to be in my own little bubble n the car and ignore everyone. It was an emotional ride and one that is filled with the drama and angst that I love from LD Davis. My heart basin my throat the entire time. And when it was over I was finally able to breathe. All though I am sure not for long, because while this is not necessarily a cliffy, you know that it will continue and in a way the biggest test of their relationship is about to come.

I adore Lydia and Marco and was nothing more than for them to find happiness. It seems at times that so much is against them, but the way they eel about each other, the chemistry they have, the ease between them, is everything. And the exact reason why you know that they are meant to be. They both have their pasts and in a way they are sill very much with them.

There's not much more to say other than I LOVED every minted of this book and fell even more in love with the characters. I will patiently be waiting for the next one.

There are no doubts about it that you are in for a treat whenever you read one of L.D. Davis’ books -that she will always take you on an exciting and emotional journey. You are in for a treat with Lydia and Marco’s story, which started in Desperation (loved it!) Here is where the story really began to unfold.

Marco was living in Italy while Lydia was still in Ohio and it placed a strain on their relationship. Marco was distracted with the health of his brother and Lydia was having doubts and concerns about his priorities. We also got to see what Lydia’s life was like with Gavin, in flashback scenes.

I liked that the story was steady, detailed, unpredictable and brilliantly written. It was a great read!
