This is a collection based on the television series. This collection contains old comics that were produced while the television show was airing. This takes place during season one of the show.

I am a huge fan of Buffy and the spinoff Angel. I am currently in another rewatch of both shows. I have read the Buffy legacy collections so I knew what I was getting into with this collection. I know it is going to be a series of stories that do not affect the overall arc. It plays within the season arc and for the most part I thought this collection did it well. I especially thought this with the characters dealing with loss. I enjoyed this the most. As for the overall content nothing really special here. I liked them but nothing really stood out. I can say this about the artwork too. With different stories we have different artists and their respective styles. Some stood out more than others. Just like the stories.

This is clearly for the fans of this universe. As a fan it is worth a read just for the fact I get to play in this universe again. I really would not recommend readers who have not been part of this universe to start here. I believe it would be a little flat for them. Overall this was a decent read and i know I will continue these legacy collections.

I don't know why I can only find the kindle edition, because I have a hard copy. this is a boom studios rerelease of the old angel comics (unlike the new boom studios stuff, which is basically a remix). I think this stuff is all available in the angel omnibuses (there are three, by two different licencees) but if I'm not mistaken, this rerelease is going to be in a corrected order, though whether by publication or chronologically as far as story goes, I'm not sure. with any of the vampire comics, angel or spike, you get a lot of flashbacks, to where they first encountered this vampire or that demon or met or sired each other or just past times, so the chronology gets pretty complex.

I'm just going to blather on about the comic series, mostly. there are basically three chunks - the stuff that was released while the tv shows were going on, basically extra stories, the stuff that was released as a continuation of the tv shows after they were cancelled (so all the angel and spike after the fall stuff, then season 8-12 of buffy plus angel and faith and a few standalone volumes about spike, willow, giles and illyria, and now this boom studios stuff. I'm not counting the middle school buffy and elementary school versions because I don't really care for them and as completist as I seem to be about the other stuff I mentioned, I'm not planning to buy those. (there are three volumes of the middle school stuff starting with freaks and geeks and then I don't know how many elementary level ones they published).

I have all the post-tv series comics. not that much boom studios stuff has been released in trade paperback yet - so far it's one volume of buffy, one volume of angel, and this angel legacy volume, so I'm keeping up with those. I'm still working on collecting the stuff that came out during the shows, but I have most of it. every few months I go down a rabbit hole of buffy comics on the fan wiki and make a bunch of lists of all the collected trade paperback volumes that came out and what they collect and what I would need to purchase to have everything. I have completed spike, not surprising, he's my favorite character of the series. I don't have the omnibus, but I have everything collected in the spike omnibus, so I probably won't get that unless I just come across it cheap. the buffy stuff I just have mostly in omnibus version - there are seven of them and I have five of the seven volumes. I don't have any of the angel omnibuses but these legacy releases I imagine will mean I have all that stuff anyway. if I see the omnibuses for cheap....I'll probably still get them.

I will probably buy the other two buffy omnibuses no matter what, just to complete the set. all that nerding out said and done, I really like this legacy release. the size is like a (thick) trade paperback whereas the other omnibus volumes are a good inch shorter, which makes them less appealing to me. (don't get me started on hardbound library editions; if I was rich, I would probably get those as well; as it is all I have in that line is angel: the end, although I have a couple of other hardbound volumes, but not library editions).

so yeah. there were I think three story lines collected in this. it's appealing, tall but chunky and I have faith that things will be in sequence. I collected the post show comics pretty much in real time and I'm planning to stay abreast of the boom studios releases too - it saves making a lot of lists and buying things used. I don't know if they're rereleasing this stuff purely to make a buck or if joss whedon just wishes it had been in a different format/order before, but I'm all in. and since I don't have that much angel stuff from when the shows were on, given that I don't have the omnibuses, I don't think I've even read these before.

Christopher Golden's name is a mark of quality on anything Buffy or Angel as a rule of thumb. Holds true here. Also, Eric Powell of THE GOON fame has early work showcased in both Angel Legacy Edition books. If you're a Goon fan you simply have to check out these books. Some weaker stories here and there but mostly good fun throughout.
